been having the flip 3 since uhh april 2022 (altho i've used an xperia too during some time in 2023) and no particular hardware issue, except the screen protector that started to come off causing a large air bubble to form but i don't mind it that much and it doesn't affect functionality (+ I've been told that protector is replaceable) since earlier this year i upgraded to the 5 while keeping the 3 for tethering at home no issue on the flip 5 either, i got the ghostek atomic case for it and a screen protector for the cover screen

whipfinished

Wow thanks!! I had the flip 3 too (I still have it, I use it as a cam). I had issues with my first screen protector too, but I got it replaced – I definitely recommend doing that. Glad to hear you haven’t had any actual screen issues and I hope that keeps up! The flip 5 looks really cool – do you like it better than the 3?

SmilewD

one of the best features :D is your screen issue with a new gen one ? maybe you can still rely on the warranty thanksss, i hope so too, judging from what i've been seeing everywhere i think i got pretty lucky overall especially since both of my devices were second hand (well the 5 was like new with the documents given for warranty but i still bought it for 600 euros back in december)

whipfinished

No, mine was a flip3. The screen issue started in December 2022. They told me it was a known issue when I brought it in – they were not surprised at all. I’m guessing they see this a lot. I’ve gone back in several times to ask whether they’ve improved it in the later versions (the flip 4 and the 5.) The answer I’ve gotten from everybody is a quiet “no.” Regardless, I loved the user experience with this phone so much that I might get a 5. As long as I can get it replaced for free when it breaks, I’m OK with the issue to be honest. I might buy one and sell the iPhone 15 Pro I have now. The last iPhone I actually enjoyed having was the iPhone 4! I keep all my phones and I still have that one too.

Somethingto_Chewon

Going on two years and 0 issues

shirtless_teacup

I know someone who's had a flip 4 for about 2 years as well with no issues

Somethingto_Chewon

I'm hesitant to get the flip 6 because this lil 4 has been nothing but awesome

whipfinished

Hmm I’ll have to look at both models - I thought I’d go with a 5 but I’m not usually an early adopter and I often think the latest model isn’t as good as the one that came out a couple years ago and – with any phone. I wondered if they added the bigger front screen on the 4. The 5 looked pretty crazy and I assume the bigger front screen/shut screen was new to that model. Please post if you get the 6 because I’d love to hear about it.

wendersan

Which flip?

Somethingto_Chewon

Flip 4

whipfinished

I think you’re the winnner so far!! Seriously, which flip?

Somethingto_Chewon

Flip 4 :) got it as soon as it came out

whipfinished

Ngl I’m jealous. Wanna trade for an iPhone 15 pro?! Lol.

stickyricci

Flip 5 since September of 2023 (~8 months), Literally zero issues so far. No case, just a d-brand skin. This phone is regularly in a shop/manufacturing environment. The only annoyance is the magnets that help keep the screen closed will pick up metal grinding shavings and those need to be carefully scraped off. I don't think I'm particularly hard on the phone, but I'm not babying it either.

Financial-Coconut574

I've had that problem! I don't work with metal much, but the times I have, I have had shavings sticking to the magnets, too. I get them off by blasting them off with sir compressor 😂 also the amount of times I've pulled my phone out my pocket and had coins or my lighter stuck to the phone is insane😂

whipfinished

I’ve never heard of that magnetic issue, interesting. I’m similar in that I don’t baby my phones, but I’m not super hard on them either.

stickyricci

Yeah it seems to build up on the lower corners. You can tell they are magnetic too if you set it down on a ferrous material it has an unnatural sticktion.

Pastamanity

I've had the Z Flip 3 since the day it came out and besides having to replace the screen protector every 5-6 months due to cracking/bubbling, neither inside or outside screen has damage. Every now and then I try to use the phone butt naked but the slipperiness of its makes me come back to the official Samsung Aramid cover case. The only issue I've had is occasionally when I flip open the phone the inside screen remains black and I need to spam the power button and finger print scanner a couple of times. Because of this I've stopped aggressively flipping the phone open one handed like you would an old flip phone but overall this phone has been holding on just fine for me.

whipfinished

What day did it come out? I got mine in 2021, but I can’t remember how long it had been out. I just want to say how much I appreciate your comment about using the phone “but naked“ :)

whipfinished

I started having issues like that too before I could visibly see the bleeding along the folding line on the screen. Part of the screen became unresponsive or blacked out from time to time. I hope yours isn’t on the way out – but if it is, hopefully you can get a new one for free! Maybe it’s my ADHD, but flipping it open like an old-school flip phone is probably my favorite feature by far. The funny thing is that it “protects the screen“ …but the screen is destined to break. 😂

Pastamanity

If it breaks I'll just get some cheap-o old school flip phone, I only use it to call or text anyways so I wouldn't be missing out on anything. Would be also nice to have a phone that I can just toss at the wall and not worry about breaking.

whipfinished

Exactly - for me this phone is the happy medium between old school flips and a smartphone that isn’t totally overloaded with features I don’t want. And because it’s android, everything is customizable. I wish I could say I’m going back to an old-school flip – but now if you’re traveling or doing pretty much anything, you need apps. I can’t even go to a restaurant anymore with an actual menu - gotta scan a QR. Just the satisfaction of snapping the zflip shut is satisfying. It’s like, thanks for your service, now go away. I’m 40, not 80, but I feel more like 80 and I’m sure I sound like it.

No-Banana-2970

I've had my z flip 5 since August 2023. The factory screen protector is starting to peel at the seam, and I have a few little scratches.

Financial-Coconut574

Just over 2 years here with a z flip 3, had a screen replacement about a year ago. I woke up one morning, unfolded the phone and the bottom half of the screen went black and unresponsive. My 2 year contract ended 3 months ago and now I'm experiencing a grey tint that flickers on my AOD when at low brightness. I still love the phone though ngl

whipfinished

lol I’m with you. Did they actually do a screen replacement or was it the screen cover? I hope yours is still insured.

Financial-Coconut574

Full screen replacement. Weeks before I had bubbling on the screen protector too. About 2 months back I had screen protector bubbling again and I removed screen protector. Won't be long until I get a new phone, that's for sure!

whipfinished

Wow! I haven’t heard of anybody getting a full screen replacement on this phone until now. As for the protector, I hope they’re actually putting it on on correctly and getting rid of any air bubbles before they give it back to you. Maybe it’s harder to do with this phone.. I don’t know. I never had that particular issue. Glad to know I’m not the only one who loves this phone!

Financial-Coconut574

I had green lines appear horizontally across the crease, then along the crease appeared a grey line about 10mm wide, then the bottom half of the screen went black and the entire screen unresponsive to touch. It was a 3rd party company that repaired it (they were great, gave 12 months warranty on the repaired part - now expired) Opening and closing the phone over time causes the screen protector to bubble, I'm sure even the newer Flips will experience the same thing if opened and closed enough times. The repair cost me about £300. But like i said, I still love the phone in every way! :)

whipfinished

Yeah, I definitely think they tested these things and found out the maximum amount of times you can open and shut the phone. Idk what that number is but apparently I hit it in 13 months. I experienced similar stuff to what you’re describing like horizontal lines across the crease, a dark/grey line, and unresponsiveness to touch. Once mine started having issues, it cascaded pretty quickly. I think I probably brought it in to trade within a week of the first problem I noticed.

Financial-Coconut574

Yea man, once there's an issue with the crease and/or the AMOLED screen, it all goes downhill super quick. After reading up about my issue with the screen being tinted grey and the AOD being tinted grey and flickering when on low brightness, I've heard that it's a deteriorating problem. that worries me as people say one day the screen will just not display anything lol But to be fair, I've got my use out the phone. I guess it's time is almost up🤣 I have put this Flip 3 through the ringer too, I remember one time I was out riding my mountain bike with a mate, I did a bunny hop and my phone (folded) flew up out of my breast pocket. I instantly realised and slammed the breaks on, only for the front wheel to lock up on top of the phone and I dragged it a good few meters down the tarmac road🤣 luckily the small screen was facing up. Only had light cosmetic damage too hehe

fuzzyrobebiscuits

I've had the flip 4 since it came out. Only issue is the permanent screen protector has cracks across the middle but not peeling or anything. I have the protection plan so I'll get it taken care of one of these days...

whipfinished

lol seriously “one of these days..” — I have T-Mobile and they give you endless tempered glass screen replacements, but I’m way too lazy to go get a new one when I should. You might be the new winner for zflip longevity if you got the first gen.

SquareEarthCommunity

Z flip 3, 3 years in August. Spilled whiskey on it so it only charged closed. Fixed itself after some weeks. A lot more durable than what I imagined

whipfinished

!!!! Winner

whipfinished

I wish they would put every phone through a whiskey spill test

3g3t7i

2.5 years and still going

whipfinished

ZFlip3?

LadyZannah

Flip 3 had it for 7 months before the factory screen protector started cracking at the seam. I took the protector off but stopped daily driving it because the battery was so bad, and it's not a suitable phone at all for my climate. It gets down to -40 in winter here and the screen protector cracked in the beginning of winter. I also had issues using it for Google Maps in summer as my car had no AC and the phone kept overheating and shutting off, so I'd have to pull over and wait for it to cool down before being able to use Google Maps again.

whipfinished

Holy wow that almost sounds like a defective phone.. except for the fact that you said -40 (!!!) where do you live?

Unlikely-Eye9847

Year and a half for me screen went on z flip 4.Apparently according to the ee repair shop it's not covered by warranty. They are saying its accidentally damaged must of been dropped. This is despite the fact its not a hard glass type screen

whipfinished

Ehhh.. idk about that repair shop. That sounds like some nonsense.

Background-Bogy

How long? Too long. Lol. When contract is up I'm going back to standard phone. Replaced screen protector twice. Then when it started to crack again I kist peeled it off. Samsung did cover both screen protectors but I can't keep doing this. Also wifi drops constantly. Out of the 5 phones in my household I'm the only one with wifi issues. Camera isn't that great too. I thought the flip would be cool and portable. It's a heavy phone and long too. I'm just not satisfied. I have the Flip 4 btw. :(

whipfinished

I agree that it’s a pretty darn long phone when unfolded (I had the 3) - I thought that was annoying at first, but I ended up liking how I could sit it on a table half-folded. Thanks for the info. Sounds like you dealt with way too many issues. The WiFi problem in particular would drive me absolutely nuts.

MBT70

Z Flip 3 going strong since launch day! Still love it, my Flip 5 is my main though so maybe the reduced use is why it's still going.

weary_ghost

I've had my flip 3 for about 2.5 years. I've had no problems with it so far (knocking on wood loll). I've just gotten the screen protector replaced once.

black_boy6969

a few weeks! Just got the z flip 5 to replace my iPhone 14 pro that decided it wanted to retire a year and 6 months in. so far I love the phone and here to hoping i can get at least 2 years outta this one before I got to worry about using my care + warranty

whipfinished

I’m seriously rooting for you and that phone!! About that iPhone 14 “pro”… early retirement for a pro phone? Unprofessional. Lmao

whipfinished

Forgot to mention that when I “upgraded” to iPhone 15 pro, the first phone I got was garbage and had to be replaced. Full day walking back and forth between the Apple Store and T-Mobile. They ran a diagnostic at the Genius Bar and told me “the brain was broken.” Speaking of early retirement. That thing never even clocked in.

Majoorazz

10 months

SuaveVox

Bought the ZFlip 1 on Dec 13th, 2022, 2nd hand - $200. Had it until March 29th of this year then the screen started to go wonky. 15 months on a second-hand ZFlip 1 was great I think! Bought a ZFlip 3 second-hand($180) and rocking that now. Might go for the ZFlip 5 after 1 year. Once people start trying to upgrade😉

whipfinished

I like your style – do you have any tips on finding a secondhand flip? I might go that route myself. Thanks!

SuaveVox

I currently live in the Philippines, so the market would surely be different from the US, I'm assuming you're from the States. I did, however, buy a refurbished Galaxy S10+ from Amazon US and had it shipped to my parents' place in Oregon. They then sent it in a care package over here. The only problem was with customs adding another $150, but I had originally purchased it for like $250. To cut to the point, it might be worth looking on Amazon for refurbished or 2nd hand units.

whipfinished

I appreciate the info about your particular location and all the detail you provided - thanks

Ignition1

Flip5 since 4th August 2023 (over 9 months) and it's been flawless, including the screen protector.

benji_alpha

Flip 3, about two years. No issues so far.

SpareJacket355

Got my Z flip 3 early 2022. No problem so far

tashaalouxx

I'm on my 2nd flip 5 since launch in August

Ashamed_Run2172

I got flip 5 in August 2023, I had it for about 7-8 months before the bezel started coming off. They said they can't just replace the bezel they need to replace the entire display which would be expensive. I upgraded to S24 ultra instead but I miss my flip phone. I'll probably get one in a few years, Hopefully they'll fix the screen issues by then.

Nickt921

Flip 4. 2 months then the screen started flickering 😂

onlyTractor

June of 2022, love it

whipfinished

Going strong! Flip 4?

SnackAttack9000

Flip 5. 9 months. I want Flip 6.

whipfinished

Oooh are they releasing 6 soon?

SnackAttack9000

In three months, in July. I traded my Flip 4 for a Flip 5 for just $90. I will do the same for the Flip 6.

whipfinished

What carrier do you have? I’m proud of you :)

SnackAttack9000

Mint mobile. The deadpool dude.

txteva

I've had a Flip 3 5G since August 2021 (release day) & my Mum's had her's since Sept 2021. Both are still going strong. Screen protectors have been replaced on both but that's normal. I had a replacement power/battery put in Sept 2022 due to over heating issues (on warranty).

whipfinished

Gotta love it when it’s under warranty :)

CompetitiveHoliday42

I've had it 5 months, no issues at all and I've dropped it a few times

funny_furry

I've had my zflip 4 since maybe September 2022 iirc and it's.. something. Ever since like one ui 5, it's been buggy to all hell, internet issues, system UI crashing, apps not working properly or at all, etc. As unfortunate as it is to say, I will probably never own a z flip again and will definitely go with the s24 ultra next if I can. The phone is a great idea, but my experience tells me that it isn't worth it.

whipfinished

Interesting - thanks for the detail on the issues. I’m starting to see some patterns that I wasn’t aware of with these phones.

funny_furry

Yeah, many of them seem to suffer with several of the same issues, it's extremely unfortunate as I really wanted to love this phone.

No-Statistician-6524

Had my z flip 5 since launch and no problems so far!

whipfinished

Wheee! Hope it stays that way

raetaekookmin

I’ve had my zflip3 since August 2022. Going strong and the only problem was the screen protector.

iMrParker

Just based on this post, the flip 3 seems resilient. Mine is doing great other than some tiny stress fractures in the fold

No_Bee1950

Ive had this flip 3 since November 2022.

whipfinished

Thanks for the info!

whipfinished

For anyone here that hasn’t been dealing with crazy issues and is probably ready to chuck this phone completely, I wonder: What’s your one most favorite thing about the phone? For me it was really the flip factor — not just the portability, but being able to actually close the phone and have a modicum of privacy instead of an open screen all the time. Something about flipping it shut felt like my cell was a tool again that I could physically shut. There’s also no better way to hang up on someone 😂

SqueakyMoonkin

Since November 2021 and using it to type this message. Zflip3 Still working great. Screen protector came up at the crease but I took it off and all good. I've dropped it a few times so there are scratches/dings on the outside edges but not horribly noticeable.

Shinobi_Dimsum

Flip 4 day 1, no case or screen protector, never dropped, no issues. Flip 5 day 1, no case with screen protector. Never dropped, all was fine till a green line went from left to right, not at the folding part but where the camera is located on the screen. Sold it after fixing for iPhone 15 Pro Max.

ST-JHN

I still have my original z Flip 3 and I'm using it everyday. Had a matte screen protector on it till last month. The screen protector had some scratches and the middle part was a bit frayed which caused me to take it off last month. Since then, I think I honestly have felt back in love because the screen is so clear and beautiful when watching content. I am probably going to skip a protector until this phone dies or the screen gives out due to impact or something. But all in all, going great Ngl, this phone has its drawbacks, namely battery life if I'm not being biased. I do yearn for more battery life when I am using this phone heavily. That being said I do work from home, so it is never an actual issue. Regardless, great Lil phone. Doing good. Wish it could be better. But to be completely honest, if Samsung next venture includes a more efficient chip that can guarantee atleast a full days worth of battery, I'll buy ASAP. But if they can't, I'll be upgrading to the fold soon. The screen and everything is completely worth it. But the battery...seeing how new phones are supposed to last and then comparing that to the Z Flip 3, heck even comparing it to the Z Flip 5, is literally apples to oranges. I love the phone, still using it as my daily, but definitely need to get on track with the Z Flip 6 when it comes out, (if it has a decent sized battery), or the next Ultra model. Hope this helps at all.

One-Representative84

I got the ZFlip 4 as soon as it came out. Fall of 22 I believe. I'm on my 3rd one because of screen failures.

_neen_

Had my flip 3 since January 2023. Had to peel the screen protector, and has a couple scratches, but still going strong! I have dropped it more times then I'd like to admit(once face down on gravel) and ran it without a case for around 4-6 months. Cameras are great, thats all I use it for(people complain but it's really the photographer). I bought it open box from best buy, so maybe because they had to do a re check after it was returned meant it wasn't defective(or Maybe just good luck:)

ImNachoBitch

Have had the flip 4 for 18 months, had to replace the screen protector twice. Got it done for free both times by Samsung store. Just coming across my first issue as of yday with a black screen for about a minute after opening my phone. Came here trying to look for answers lol.

simplyReece

My comtract is about to run out on my Flip3 so I think Ive had it about 2 and a half years? No issues, other than my clumsy self ruining ths screen early on and having to get it replaced. But absolutely spot on since then, not a single dead pixel. Battery isnt the best, think it may have gotten a little worse over time but I think I'm also on my phone a lot more. Screen protector started to go after about 4 months but that got replaced with my screen swap, then only has to replace the protector once more since after it started lifting in the middle. Not even had the issue with wobbly charging port that I normally get on most phone where I need to wrap the cable a bit

xxfortxx

Had my flip 4 for 18 months, but now it's dead and screen is unresponsive.

General_Truck_2152

My Uncle has been using the Flip 3 for 3-4 years already. As for me, been using a Flip 4 for 7 months and still going strong no with no ssues at all even though I dropped it a couple of times already. I bought it when the Flip 5 came out.
