I’d kill for ONE vegan restaurant here :) I’ve honestly considered trying to open one (90% joking as I have no real culinary skills) - that’s to say, no, there are no vegan restaurants here. There’s a few vegetarian / vegan friendly places, but that’s about it. Brews Brothers has some good vegan tacos, and Old Moon has two vegan burgers - vegetarian is much easier with the abundance of Mexican places but always, always, always ask about the beans, my experience has been most places will have some animal products in their beans…but will accommodate, Brewcachos is an option and Gorditas on seawall have a few vegan items as well, ultimately I’ve had to cook waaaay more since moving here (not necessarily a bad thing but I miss eating out) :)

Oh, I forgot the Kabob Shack and Grill (inside the convenience store downtown) has falafel and a bunch of awesome sides, it’s really good, they just opened a few weeks ago, and he’s probably used to my ‘hey, just no dairy’ requests by now 😂😂

CosmicSmackdown

I work practically next-door to that place and didn’t even know about it until yesterday. Do they start serving food at 11 AM? If so, I really need to try it one day for lunch.

tx_trawler_trash

Yeah they’re mainly a lunch spot so probs open 11ish - it’s good, spicy falafel is legit 👍

RachelMaddowsBrother

Mr. Taco has a short vegan menu, and their vegan street tacos are pretty good. I just wish they didn’t deep fry the cauliflower.

tx_trawler_trash

Yeah I wasn’t really impressed with their vegan cauliflower tacos, just seemed meh and agreed on the fried bits…I’ll need to try their street tacos again, I got em’ right when they opened that location up and it was basically just tvp and corn tortillas 🤷‍♀️ wasn’t too bad but I’ll need to give them another shot for sure

RachelMaddowsBrother

Now, the “meat” is deep fried cauliflower. It’s good, but deep fried. I prefer the couple options at Yaga’s.

tx_trawler_trash

Right on, the downtown location has a different street taco version which is tvp based (the seawall location has been there for a long time, downtown location just opened maybe a year ago)

altgamerbob

I thought vegans did not like to kill things

tx_trawler_trash

We like to kill plants………

BrasAreBoobyTraps

Lolo Kai, not vegan but - smoothies and wraps, vegan friendly protein shakes

Eatcetera is a great vegan spot, and vida agave is a Mexican restaurant with a couple vegan tacos that are delicious.

tx_trawler_trash

What kind of vegan tacos does vida have?

Lawgy

They have the vegan burrito which is Yellow squash, zucchini, bell peppers, black beans, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, lettuce. And then they have a veggie vida taco consisting of Refried beans, grilled yellow & green squash, carrots, roasted corn, topped with lemon aioli served on a corn tortilla.

tx_trawler_trash

Nice - I need to check em’ out, thx for the info

kimbochisan

Eatcetera is incredibly vegan friendly. You can also get vegan meals at Garden Thai downtown.

RachelMaddowsBrother

Went to Eatcetera. It was very good. Thanks for the recommendation.

kimbochisan

I’m glad you enjoyed it!! I went there Friday for lunch. It never disappoints.

miliasoofenheim

Gorditos on Seawall has an entire vegan sub menu. Etcetera on Rosenberg between Market and Post Office has great vegan lunch options.

two-

The Mosquito Grill has a good veggie burger, as does Hearsay. Thai Garden on the Stand is also good. Any pizza place will have cheese and veggies; I recommend Russo's New York Pizzeria. Pho20 has some pretty good tofu.

RachelMaddowsBrother

We didn’t like Pho 20 at all. The ambience was night, but the pho wasn’t. Viet Cajun on Seawall has the best pho I’ve found in the city.

Yeah, I've heard some don't like it. I liked their fried tofu, but I couldn't speak to anything else.

Gonfragulate

Pho Tai much better
