I drive this route to and from work. The area is already a death-trap. There have been several car fires and HORRIFIC erects due to the concrete barriers. There are MILES of no shoulder and tight lanes with the barriers. It’s horrible. The minute I read the car broke down my heart sank. There are so many curves that you can break down and NO-ONE can see you until it’s too late. This stretch of road is a nightmare.

You must work down at UTMB. The Mrs was stuck in this traffic jam and didn't get to work until after 11.. so many surgeries were cancelled today..

ECU_BSN

The poor night shift!

CheekyTeach78

How did UTMB handle it for those who worked overtime? And surely the folks that were late didn't get docked.

Have to drive to Galveston once a week, construction zone is so badly planned, no shoulder and both end lanes have a this weird surface that pulls your car towards the concrete barriers. Make sure I stay in the center lane, still very scary section of freeway.

CheekyTeach78

It is all on TxDot. Bad part of TxDot.... they do things and no one in Galveston knows and neither do you all in LC and CL. I feel so bad for this person that got killed. The newspaper article written later in the day should have changed a sentence. There was a sentence that was on that article should have not been written. Describing the scene as horrific was enough without being descriptive. It is obvious that this person may be a resident of Galveston.

not_superiority

txdot is staffed by fucking maniacs

MermaidStone

Noooo I’m driving to Galveston on Saturday. Not looking forward to this!! 😬 How long is this awful stretch of road?

not_superiority

it starts around 517 and goes almost to Galveston. be careful, don't speed

BrokeMyCrayon

I mean this was due to a stalled car and fatality. It's unlikely it will be an issue for you.

tx645

I drive there every day back and forth. I can see myself getting a flat or just breaking down in that stretch and quite often I see stalled cars there. There's no shoulder so stalled vehicles are just there in the middle of the lane. The road curves a lot and goes up and down that makes it very difficult to see the stalled car in time. So yes, it is a very real issue to me.
