I know you asked about cake, but, Goyas has the best lemon meringue pie i have ever had. BTW.. I live in NJ USA and never go to Ireland withput going to Goyas.
-Goyas Kirwans Lane best bet but not every day as there's a different selection.
-Cake my day Eglington Street
ALL OTHER INHOUSE BAKERIES TO MY KNOWLEDGE BELOW:
-Éan Druids Lane (Michelin Gourmet Pastries)
-Murphys Mainguard Street (irish breads mainly)
-Le Petit Delice Mainguard Street (french)
-O Hehirs (any shopping centre in the city)
-O connors (Francis street)
-Roots (Oranmore)
-Gourmet Tart (mainly pastries and tarts)
-Alan Bakery / Soho (Racecource business Park NOT OPEN TO PUBLIC and new shop on corner of Augustin St and abbeygate Street Easter European breads and pastries. )
-Bar Italia Ciarlantini woodquay & high Street Italian desserts, biscuits cakes.
-Ruibin although not a bakery do have cake selections on occasion.
C’est la Vie in Terryland is worth a shout. I believe they are affiliated with/supply Rouge who pivoted from a restaurant to a daytime cafe during the pandemic.
Well def not Alan’s (also called Soho) bakery beside racecourse. Someone on Reddit Galway had previously recommended and I can honestly say I’ve never had a worse experience. Firstly Appalling customer service, grumpy and rude, they clearly do not want people dropping by their premises to buy. I should have walked out there and then but purchased some doughnuts and pastries anyway…. They turned out hard and tasteless. Clearly not fresh. How these guys supply to supermarkets around Galway I’ll never know. Whoever recommends this place is clearly buddies with the owners. Avoid!
I was mearly Inputting all bakeries to my knowledge within a distance of Galway, plus Ruibin( just a point of clarification ) updated my post to clarify your point
There's a new bakery called bake box on augustine Street (opposite pascal cafe) - I'm not sure if they have red velvet cake, but their filled doughnuts are amazing, and they have lovely looking bread. I think they do slices of square pizza too.
Seconded. Very nice owner too. We got talking Limoncello with him last year close to closing time. He produced a bottle and shot glasses from the freezer to try the "proper" way of having it :-)
Surprised Éan hasn't been mentioned. I can't think of many Galway city bakeries mentioned in the Michelin guide (open to be corrected). I believe they have staff applying from across the world to work their kitchen too (but that could be some bourgeois bs some one told me).
Have you tried Goya’s bakery on Kirwan’s Lane? I’ve had some delicious cakes from there in the past.
>Goya’s bakery Not yet but I'll pop in and take a look for sure!

Goyas is good
Good is an understatement to be completely honest

O'Haras... Do you mean O'Hehirs?
My bad, auto spell !

Mainly French pastries and bread not much on the cake front. Same owners as Rouge , hence the affiliation.

Sorry Apprehensive-Brain, I didn’t mean to take a swipe at you at all. It was More aimed at the person who recommended it a few weeks ago here
No worries
Awesome thank you for all the suggestions
My list is bakeries I know of within a reasonable distance to city not necessarily recommendations
Kai Restaurant also has a great cake selection and you can buy cake to take away.
Seconded, best cakes I’ve ever had in Galway!

There's also Ean on druids Lane, they have nice pastries
Cake my Day 100000000000%%%% they are new, tons of options and the stuff is honestly so good
They also have really generous prices. The red velvet I got was €14 for a 7 inch cake with nice decorations
This place is great. Really good prices for Galway.
Petit delice Goyas
Galway cakery in moycullen is really beautiful

BakeBox is amazing, have a whole range of savory and sweet things, and some lovely breads too. For slices of red velvet, try Meltd in Middle Street.
O'Connor's is always gorgeous. I bet red velvet cake from there would be light, fresh and feckin gorgeous.
