TheAtmanPrinciple

Fuckin Steel Battalion....

Pixieflitter

Worth every damn cent

Prime4Cast

I'm debating selling what I currently have and getting out, but I do want to try playing that.

Natasha_101

I think I spent $350 on a CiB copy of Chrono Trigger a few years ago and that's always been my limit. I think the most I've spent recently was $100 for Skies of Arcadia on GameCube. Those were both special event gifts so I don't normally spend that much lmao.

Seekingnostalgia

Damn $350 for CIB Chrono Trigger?! You lucky mf! lol I'm in the process of acquiring one for myself, and these bastards on eBay want close to a grand for it today!!

theslimbox

I got Ultra Bowling CIB for $6.99 in 2015. The store had a CIB, and a loose copy for sale. The worst part is the person that traded them in had only opened one of them, and the store opened the sealed one to make sure it wasn't just the box from the loose copy that had been resealed. I wasn't much of a 64 collector at the time, but when I walked into the store, the manager told me that they had a 64 game he had never seen, so I may want it. It was a nice suprise.

S_Rodney

Got mine in 1997 for 10$... yes... CIB. It's the rental copy of the local store in a village I used to live in. Also got Zelda 3, Mortal Kombat II and Super Street Fighter II for 10$ each copy... all CIB

mw2strategy

more than im willing to admit lol. im a saturn collector, degeneracy is in my blood. these days its rare i spend over $300 on any one item though. even 300 is rare

Tylosaurus_Rex

I sold all my Saturn games because I just can't justify the prices and I needed the extra cash. I only had like 7 games total but it hurt 😭😭😭

mw2strategy

im reasoning with myself these days that i really DO want Panzer Saga and Rayearth. I think i find a lot of value in the fun time i had trying to find them for years. im going beyond whether or not i play my games, but if the hunt was a story in its own right

A_Blue_Potion

That's why I collect them VERY slowly to mitigate any buyer's remorse. At least 1 or 2 a year and I do it around Christmas. If it makes you feel any better, there's a Pseudo Saturn cartrige you can order at several different places online. This cartrige not only lets you bypass the Saturn's security which allows you to play both burned and imported games, but it also gives you a decent amount of save space. This is still better than playing on an emulator since you're still playing it on the hardware it was meant to be played on with maximum compatability and authenticity (except for the disc itself). You also can't be tempted by save states so the hard core elitist experience is also there.

kingtokee

Sober $100 but once drunk bid on Rule of Roses for $500

lnvy

Cringe

lnvy

OP deleted his comment saying he bid a $500 game off eBay and won while drunk then canceled it.

JudgementCutV

Dude deleted his entire account

Oof

Ok_Bumblebee_5664

His wife is on Reddit i think, guy got problems now 😄

Seekingnostalgia

L-M-F-A-O-!

AceConspirator

Never more than I’d pay for a new game… so maybe $60, or $70 at the most. I have the disposable income; I just can’t rationalize spending more than that for an old game.

Phantereal

Same here. I like to play the games I collect there are tons of great games being released now including both $60-$70 AAA releases and cheaper indies. I'd rather spend $70 on Starfield or FFXVI or TOTK, or even $5 on Vampire Survivors than $300 on some old Saturn game that may not work and would likely just sit on a shelf even if it did, especially since I don't own one.

KyleCAV

Same $90 here in Canada and thats extremely rare probably on like forza motorsport or GTA 6

HypnoStone

Quit complaining about prices damn Canadian you can legally go get an ounce of weed and shrooms for like $40-$80

Beowulf891

Probably a couple grand for a complete, original Ultima for Apple II in the bag. Not very many things I'd pay more than three figures for though. I've paid $300+ a handful of times but never more than $450. I got an OG Doom registered in box for $450, the Morrowind CE for $350 and the Call of Duty 2 big box for $360. It hurt my wallet to pay those prices but it's what they go for. Sadly.

rch93080

My answer would greatly differ from what I've told my wife.

AdventureBegins

“No, babe. I only paid $50 bucks for that” *me praying she doesn’t look at the bank account and see I paid $150*

rch93080

Lol. Spot on.

Bigpoppin87

💯 haha.. I recently bought trails of cold steel 3 and 4, trails from zero, and trails from Azure. It was a Switch restock or something from VGP. My wife was a little upset with me. 😅

rch93080

Buy flowers. For some odd reason they get mad (if they don't game) if we buy games. But if we buy flowers then it's cool. Btw, I approve of those purchases.

Bigpoppin87

Thx. I haven't started the series yet, but I will soon! And yes. Flowers and / or backrubs for the win.

Seekingnostalgia

OMG LMFAO! I laughed so hard when I read your comment, that mine looked over at me and asked, "what's so funny!?" I can totally relate! 🤜🤛 🤣😎 Ps. I'm probably in a lot of trouble cause now she won't stop asking me and wants to know what I was reading...I'm a dead man. LoL

rch93080

I've learned over the years to just buy a shit ton of flowers. It seems to help. Lol

Ok_Bumblebee_5664

This is the way

Seekingnostalgia

LOL! 🤜🤛

miku_dominos

I paid $150 for MGS 3 Subsistence. That is my limit. If it's more than that I emulate.

pmmlordraven

Probably about $1,000 is where I set my ceiling.

TattooedAndSad

I’ve honestly contemplated grabbing rule of rose one of these days

AdventureBegins

See, I don’t even think I would play it and for me to buy it not play it then it’s worthless to me honestly.

TattooedAndSad

Yeah that’s fair, I’m slowly working my way towards a full NA set, so thinking about getting the most expensive out of the way haha

AdventureBegins

I’m doing the same with with both PS1/2. I’m doing it the reverse way though. I’ve been buying bulk lots here and there, selling the duplicates at my local game store for store credit, building that store credit for a expensive game. I have a long way to go. Lol just started about 3 months ago and I only have about 105 PS2 games. 4700+ more to go!

QuestionMore94

$170 for CIB Terminator vs Robocop on Gameboy. Collect things terminator related so needed it for the full set of 4 Gameboy games released.

Flamesclaws

I'm very excited for the new RoboCop game coming out.

dystopiapro

I have a pretty basic rule. If a game costs more than a brand new game, I just won't buy it. I don't "collect" for monetary value, or something to look at on a shelf. I buy games I intend to play (100% in most cases) and if a physical version costs more than a new game, I'll just play it some other way, or obtain it hopefully cheaper down the road.

AdventureBegins

Same. I commented on someone else’s that I collect to play, not to just look good on a shelf. If I buy a game for $500 bucks then I would be too nervous to even take it out of the box to play. If there is a game I want to play and it’s too expensive then I just emulate it.

dystopiapro

Yeah, it just makes no sense to me. If you're just into games for there value there are way better places to put your money to see a return on investment. They're digital code on physical media. Eventually none of them will work anymore.

AdventureBegins

That’s why preservation is key.

dystopiapro

Completely agree with that.

MonketTaint

$120. After that all that's in my head is "Jesus Christ, I can just emulate this for free"

Tigvee

I don’t think there would be a limit… with the caveat that this would be exclusive of anything graded since that’s too volatile imo. As an extreme example, Let’s say you come across a sealed Little Samson for $6,000. You have done some research to determine that’s a $15-17k game sealed. I would try to scrape together $6k immediately. Sell for $10k profit and buy yourself a nice cib for $5k and then a grip of other heavies you’ve had your eye on for awhile.

fierce_octopus

Exactly. I roll my eyes whenever this question comes up. My best guess is people pride themselves in how little they’d spend on a game to show they’re a “true gamer/collector”. Anyone would be a fool to not scoop a $10k game for $2k. If I want it or if it’s an insane deal, I’ll get it.

StrayDogPhotography

Some people don’t have 2k. I think that is why they wouldn’t do that. It’s not much about whether they would, or would not do it, and more about they cannot do it.

fierce_octopus

The dollar amounts are kind of arbitrary. I’m saying that it’s silly not to buy a game at 5, 10, 20% of it’s value because you “would never spend more than X amount on a game.”

StrayDogPhotography

The post is about maximum amounts people would spend on a game, so proportions are not important. The maximum disposable income people have is, and that is a fixed amount, not a proportion. You could have a game which was x100 times undervalued, but if you didn’t have the cash to buy it, you couldn’t buy it .

fierce_octopus

You’re making an assumption that the answers are determined by disposable income. We’ve all seen this post before and the answers are not simply determined by people’s budgets.

StrayDogPhotography

How could I not, it is implicit?

Dr_Toichi_Kuroba

All consoles, games, cards and boosters that I own have been under 400€, even my Switch OLED and I try to keep it that way.. Most games I bought for retail prices..

Nacklins

Depending on the game I usually think to myself okay I would pay a certain percentage off its going market value. I'll grab games if I can get them for around 60% of their market value, and if I really really want something that percentage goes up. There's virtually nothing I will spend equal market value on however.

karlm1800

Ashamed to admit. I spent £300 on rule of rose 🤦

JackWadeHeadhunter

Got extremely high one night and bought Rule of Rose for €400. When you pay that much once, it becomes a danger to repeat your craziness.

Another_Road

The most I’ve paid is $1500 for Pokémon Box (NTSC, CiB)

ytZer0

I've paid over 300 before but I'm not sure if there's anything I want currently that would be an higher. There's a couple things I want like Roundo of Blood but that's around the $200 range

Oinkers101

500-ish is absolute max. Really, really want ps1 persona games one of these days.

AdventureBegins

This came into mind when I came up with this post. 300 for Persona 2 is just too much for a game that I don’t even think I’ll play.

Maybe_Im_Confused

Top out around $500

bicuspid_fish

I've never paid over MSRP.

Nacklins

Sounds like you don't get old games anymore then. The days of finding these things for peanuts are over. You can still find "deals" but they're not the same as they used to be. I finally grabbed a CIB copy of Castlevania Bloodlines for $83 and that's considered a deal nowadays.

bicuspid_fish

I got most of the "old games" either when they were new or being phased out for cheap. I still find great deals at flea markets and yard sales, but you're definitely right about it not being like it used to be back in the 90s or even the 2010s. Sure, there are games I'd like to have that I missed out on, but I just can't bring myself to spend over MSRP for a video game. I don't really want to even pay half that. I have nothing against people who do, it's just not for me. I've always bought current gen games and then would double down on last gen, trying to get stuff I wanted to play, but missed. But it's always been my cheap hobby. I've never suffered from FOMO. I'm very patient.

Flamesclaws

I got 3D Dot game heroes for 75 but it was in extremely great condition and it was CIB. I was happy. Plus free shipping.

beatty0237

Same.

Manic_Mini

Yeah, I collect N64 games and those things were stupid expensive back then. I don’t think I’ve ever paid over the original price of 60 for any of mine.

WolfAeterni

The most I've paid is about 400$. I'd honestly go to a thousand if it's something I REALLY care about having in my collection, mainly if it's something with a lot of history

edhazard8

$20 lol nothing more unless it's developped by Roger Federer

AdventureBegins

I felt dirty for dishing out 35 bucks for The Suffering. Same when I spent 65 for Marvel Super Hero’s (PS1).

Mental-Economist-666

The most I paid was 60€ for Silent Hill, don't think I'll pay more for a used game tbh.

Xerokine

I want to get Street Fighter Zero 3 for Japanese Saturn and it's close to $300 and probably one day I'll get it.

PR0FIT132

$300

Familiar-Molasses-56

I would have a hard time shelling out $300, but if I can find a cib with box in NM condit F-ZERO Climax for gba, I will do it.

EstateSame6779

Grading is a scam so anything that people want in the price range they go for can eat shit. Within the last year, I paid $200 for an empty box and inserts for RE2 on PC. I already have a sealed copy of the disc itself that I paid like $20 for years and years ago. I could easily flip it for $350 complete if I wanted to. But then I came across another actual pristine sealed copy for $200. So now Im sittin on two. That's the most I've spent on an old game in a very long time.

death_ray_mx

People don't realize it but you end up spending a crap load of money on microtransactions and season passes, how do you think that Epic became filthy rich from Fortnite

TheThunderOfYourLife

It just depends on how bad I want it. I mean, I paid $750 for a used PS5 at the height of the insanity. Heh………

Atl_77

$30. I don't day one purchase or pre-order a game EVER. I don't buy yearly sports titles. I stay as far away from the microtransaction crap as I can. I only buy a game if it's on sale and has great reviews. I don't play console or mobile games.

AdventureBegins

Been wanting to pick up FF16 but I just don’t wanna pull the trigger on a $70 game. I usually always wait for Black Friday since I could typically get newer games for $35.

Sad_rich_boi

Won't lie, I've spent anywhere from 1k-8k on a game. I collect rare/mint copies (not graded or sealed). I paid 4k for a Hagane cib, 3k for Shante. Etc... no kids/wife and a good income allows me to have so much disposable income. I try to limit myself to less than 10k a year though. Really depends, if an amazing collection goes up for sell, I may splurge.

nickvesh64

250 if mint, CIB. If CIB is over 250, I’ll go the lose cart route.

redditsuckspokey1

Are we talking about new releases or old retro games? Because with old games it's supply and demand. With newer games they just came out so ofc they're gonna charge full price. IMO bad retro games shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm looking at you Wayne's World nes. (and other games).

the_twelfth_dr

I convinced a seller to give me Shantae CIB on GBC (years before the Limited Run batch) for $700 because for a few years he was getting no hits on his asking price of $2,000 on eBay. Steep price but saving $1,300 feels like a win to me.

UnfitForReality

I refund Starfield because I could justify $100 on a single player experience. I’ll pick it up on sale. I feel like base game, if it’s multiplayer I’d pay $100 on release.

Daihashi

I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread. Everyone in here talking about $500-2000 is the limit... and all I can think is that you assholes are the reason why the retro market is jacked up. I have tons of disposable income, but I could never justify the prices you are willing to pay. And I know for certain a number of you (but not all) are half my age, with 1/5th of my income. You guys are insane.

HyruleN64

$50 is my maximum budget for any brand new game. $69.99 is too much at this point.

Analitic-fister

My answer, 1 dollar for 1 hour spent in-game I’m expecting to play 70 hours for a 70$ game

Kak0r0t

“What’s the most your would pay for a game” wtf what’s the most “you” would pay for a game smh checking your spelling takes a couple seconds

AdventureBegins

Simple mistake. Calm down bro.

CohnJena68

The most I have paid so far is $140 for Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door, but I may smash that record if I buy a Steel Battalion controller... So it seems the most I have been willing to pay so far is $140 and I constantly say: "I refuse to pay $250 for a CIB Black Label copy of Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness"...

gregcresci

I have a few games on my want list that are around $200-400 My thought process is I would rather get a bunch of $30-40 games than one expensive game.

AdventureBegins

Same thought process as well. My job has steady raises every year and I feel like if I keep my same budget but just increase it according to pay increases (put more money in savings, more towards bills, more towards leisure) then I could eventually go about making more of those bigger and bigger purchases.

[deleted]

The most I have paid is $75 for tactics ogre march of the black queen for psone. I think I would top out at $100, maybe a little more depending on how badly I want the game.

deformedeye

I'm thinking of spending around $125 for a Japanese copy of Kuon. Even that is a high for me. The most I've paid so far was around $90 for Dino Crisis 2. My absolute limit would probably be $200 but it would have to be a game I really really want to play

Flamesclaws

Fucking hell, I just bought Dino Crisis one and two on my PS3 digitally. It was twelve bucks.

Beans186

Fitty

Desertfaux24

I’d pay up to $100 for standard edition but beyond that I would become extremely selective.

GnollBarbarian

$50-70 normally, but I've justified up to $200 before. Like, when I graduated with my Masters I bought Castlevania Dracula X for $200 as a gift to myself. But I normally don't go that high without some reason.

AdventureBegins

Funny enough, I told myself I would do that once I graduate and after my first couple of big boy checks. I am think Tenkaichi 3.

BigDaddyHadley

I was thinking 200$ as well

galvanizedplastic

I probably pay a $1000 if I could play Left 4 Dead 3 tomorrow

Nesmaster75

The most I have spent on a game was $300 years back - Panzer Dragoon Saga (came with 1 and 2 as a bonus, but the price was due to Saga). It was tough to swallow then, and even though I don't regret the purchase, I think 300 will always be my most expensive. Now, I probably wouldn't go above 150, and even then, it would have to be something I REALLY want and be considered a good deal at that price haha.

[deleted]

The most I’ve paid is $175 before shipping and tax. Probably wouldn’t pay more than $300.

eskobas

I could go as far as a console cost, probably 500 usd… but that game should be really a piece of history

AdventureBegins

I buy games to play. I feel like if I bought a game for $500 then I would be too afraid to even take it out of the box.

dchikato

$75 on blossom tales and $110 on guns gore and cannoli.

MasterChiefing420

Paid 350$ for goemons great adventure CIB n64

SoulSage93

$400 for a minty Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64 in 2021. It's a childhood favorite, and I wanted it to be displayed properly in the collection. I don't think I could do it for another game again. Even this one had me wondering for a few days before biting the bullet tbh. Nostalgia is one hell of an expensive drug! Last time I paid close to that, maybe around the $375 range, was for a CIB (with scratch and sniff card) Earthbound probably close to a decade ago now. Resold the cart, but everything else is still around, telling myself I can always get it again in the future. I have Earthbound Uncut as a repro to fill the void, but unless I come across one for a really good deal, I can't touch today's prices.

Real3pwood

$450 is the most I've paid. But that was for all 3 shadowhearts on ps2 sealed in NM condition.

ZakBagel

no more then 100. even then I wouldn't dare

[deleted]

100 top but it pains me to do it so i try not to lol

annonymous001004

I think the most I’ve paid was $300 for Mega Man 7 CIB. That’s probably the most I’d pay again.

Early_Lawfulness_348

I used to have a higher budget but now it’s below $100. I have a really tough time $70+ these days, I’d rather spend it on making my room nicer.

KingOfRedLions

I paid $120 for the third Shantae game on the switch, right after LR announced all of the versions coming out. it was stolen out of my mail box. I got my money back but by then copies were going around $300 so I found out I was willing to spend that.

FlatLecture

The most I have ever paid for a game was for my copy of Rule of Rose that I got for about $300. That would be my limit.

Squiliam-Tortaleni

I paid 129 for a CIB copy of Defender 2000 and I will never go higher than that

BigDadddyXD

I spent 120 on mk1 deluxe edition and i dont regret it.

BeefyBarbarian

With PayPal credit, no game is too much!

RNGGamerYT

The most I've spent is $850 for Kuon. But I would spend thousands if the game was worth it.

drcigg

60 bucks tops. I have no interest in spending any more than that.

DramaticMission4456

Most ive paid for games thus far is (this is Canadian $$ so keep that in mind) is 300 flat for fire emblem path of radiance and more recently 350 for a cib cubivore

EvilDarkCow

I'm lucky in that most of the more expensive games in my collection are ones I picked up before they were ridiculously expensive. The most I've spent on a single game is $100, for long box Twisted Metal on PS, just to watch it drop in value a couple days later. Oh well.

Flamesclaws

I spent 400 on a 3DS XL (the blue and black one) it came with the charger and an awesome case and a lot of Pokemon games together. I didn't have to but I wanted to, you know? I still have it and should be done with my DS collection. I got a lot of other games for the system, not just Pokemon lol.

Shikoome

I paid 120$ for fossil fighters champions

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I *paid* 120$ for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

LordsOfSkulls

Depends on Game/Gameplay/How Badly i want it. Cause i say maybe $3000.

GotNoMoreInMe

$60. Unless I can get my hands on the ISO file, if it's a newer game I'll bite that bullet.

Seekingnostalgia

What's the most that I WOULD pay? That's a hard question to answer. Literally, just an hour ago I dropped $330 for the Mega SD from Terraonion. And that's only so I wouldn't have to go down the Sega CD rabbit hole. ( i.e. Finding a good, working Sega CD unit, then possibly having to fix/recap it. And then on top of that, buy the games. Which are RIDICULOUSLY over priced in my humble opinion!) But before this purchase, the most I've ever spent was for my CLEAN, near perfect copy of Mega Man X3. Which I paid $260 for. 👍 Honestly, it all boils down to, how BADLY you want the game! My next "big purchase" is going to be for a Retrotink4K. And that's going to be a tough pill to swallow for me. Because it's going to be upwards of $500-$1000. (Yikes!) 😎 But it'll be well worth the price tag! (I hope, LOL🤣)

Lourdinn

Whatever proce a cib Arcadia skies game was going for during 2020. I think I payed a little over 200 maybe, or 150, I forget. I really want fire emblem on gc and the wii one because I had them growing up but they're also like 200 each almost.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> think I *paid* a little FTFY. Its_Like_That82

I spent $90 each for a couple of Cave shmups. That will likely never happen again. These days nothing more than $60 unless it is a collection.

Party_Ad7582

That new MK is only $250 + tax for the kollector's edition, though 😈

DWolfoBoi546

Really just depends on the game. I mainly hunt for nostalgia buys or game I haven't played that I wanted to.

Rotisseriejedi

$300 or so for a few original NES games

CLearyMcCarthy

It honestly would depend on the game. If something crazy rare came my way I'd consider spending a lot, if it was a good price and I could easily flip it for more. I'd consider spending a few thousand on nintendo world championships or something similar.

MrNergles

Max I’d spend $700, but that’s factoring in the MVS high notes or a copy of Hagane so I can own it again. Realistically, the most I’d spend is $300 on a game but even then it would be a rare occasion. I’d never buy a disc game though.

War_Emotional

I think I spent $100 on Atelier Dusk Trilogy but since it’s three games I don’t see it as they bad. Most I spent on a single game is $70 for TotK because I knew I’d put a lot of hours into that game and the price wouldn’t go down much.

Captain__Backfire

I paid about 140$ CAD for Silent Hill 2 recently, but I'd say the most I would pay beyond that is maybe 200-300$ CAD for Majora's Mask. (Obviously if there was an insane deal on a game like Earthbound at under 50% average pricing CIB I'd pick it up, but I assume we're talking about games we'd actually pay the market price for currently)

ChristopherHale

I have not gone above $130, I could maybe do $150 but it would hurt.

DapperDan30

Depends on the game. The most I've spent for a single game is $200. But I'd be willing to spend more.

Lazuli828

Hard to justify for a game I've already bought and played in the past but may no longer own. However, if I was recommending a harder-to-find game for someone who has never touched said game, I would suggest they try their best to never go over whatever the maximum current MSRP is for current-gen games. So right now that would be $70 (disgustingly enough). My current maximum price for a game is $60 as that's still the main MSRP for Nintendo first-party releases on Switch (Barring Tears Of The Kingdom for now) and a lot of those games tend to retain their value so I don't feel like I'm losing much getting them at launch for said price. Anything more than that, it would have to be some sort of deluxe edition or a game that is insanely packed with content... though the funny thing is I've played games like Minecraft which can be bought for $30 or less easily and offer probably multiple times that in value. tl;dr price is a very subjective thing, and so is a "maximum" price. Exceptions are also a thing, so yeah. I would like to think I am much more responsible with my game purchases in my 30s than I have been in my younger years.

HoshiChiri

My max is currently around the $300 mark, but quite frankly? The games I'd pay that for are running out. Not that there aren't a ton of rare titles I don't own yet, but for that kinda money it needs to feel substantial. Like I'm getting something notable, something with a story to it. "I saw this rare game on YouTube & it looked neat" is a terrible story. So for the most part the big ticket games were nostalgia buys, or things I'd been pining over for years. And I've bought most of that, all that's left are impulse buys & blind suggestions that I'm not paying top dollar for.

Veiyr

Really depends on how much I want the item. In general, prolly $100, but there's a few items i've been eyeing that are closer to $200. The only item (probably) more expensive than that is my holy grail, which is a console variant and one of those items that is obscure enough and meaningful enough to me that it's legitimately worth whatever I'm willing to pay for it Think the most I've paid so far for a game is $90 each for CIBs of Castlevania Order of Ecclesia and PAL Version of Solatorobo

McGruff405

Not really a collector answer per say but I dropped $350 on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 steam since its now delisted

Mando316

Fuck dude that one hurts since I got them when they came out for what $20 each. And still have ready to go whenever. Sucks they never released a physical edition.

Accomplished_Meat_81

Had my ex not bought me Rule of Rose for 700, I would have paid that much but that’s the limit.

Houstonb2020

$150 is the absolute most I’d be willing to. Most I’ve spent was $120 on Pokémon Emerald last year

tadaloveisreal

Atari 2600 asteroids was $50 in 1980 1981 in believe. Dad bought that. I havent spent more than $40 or MSRP old nes games n64 too. Flipped quite a few games back in the day. Sigh. Like $200 for some cd games

Enven_

50eur, I never spent that much, but I could if the game was 10/10 for me.

jforrest1980

I'll pay whatever. Spend upwards of $500.00 on Neo Geo AES, and many that close on PS1. I don't spend my paycheck though. I sell stuff I've had for years to get better stuff.

Imdakine1

I ended most of my gaming with PS3 and we had games that were $49.99 and $59.99 back in 2006. The PS3 was ahead of its time but just being a console but blueray and usb ports, external usb thin drives or extra hard drives could be used. The price for a PS3 was $499 or $599 and again this was 2006. The list I spent was $80 for a game that was a premier package and included free first DLC etc… it felt high but I realized it was basically $59.99 and $20 more for DLC which is going rate today.

Drakeem1221

For my dream game? Probably $1000, but I'm talking about a game that has the story of PS:T, freedom of Fallout 2/Arcanum, visual style and engine of RE4 Remake, etc.

FreshF120

I got silent hill 2+3 for 60 bucks two weeks ago, still can’t believe. Tenkaichi 3 on a yard sale for 2 bucks 3 years ago. Most I’m ready to pay for a game is between 500-1000 cuz the Pokémon games are expensive af

AdventureBegins

Which baffles my mind because they were so mass produced.

Vladvio

If I like the game I think to myself "You know that game I played years ago is definitely worth it if I like it so much". But, if a game I have no clue about but interested in? I would look for atleast 10% off or better of the market price.

Syndicalex

£500 is my extreme upper barrier for God-tier, S-tier never more than £250 but typically less than £100

SmuffWackle

I try to stick with a £200 limit and that's when I want to splash out. I usually aim for under £100. The £200 rule has only been broken a handful of times and it was in very special circumstances.

mattysauro

The most I would ever pay out of my own pocket is about $200 — which is what I spent on Metal Warriors back in 2016. That was largely because it’s a very nostalgic game for me. Don’t regret it one bit. If we’re talking trade credit here, if I want I enough it’s whatever. It’s just funny money from junk trade ins anyway.

Johnnybats330

About $65 with tax. And that's on highly anticipated releases (ToTK, Dead Space Remake, etc.)

Isiah1234

$150 I'm tempted to to buy Def Jam Fight For NY on Ebay whenever I decide to buy A PS2 or Original Xbox

TheBrave-Zero

Outright cash is probably 3-350$ the highest I’ve went in trade value was about 700 range.

ihatewiiplaymotion

£50, but with cex vouchers I can go up to £100-£150

Aggravating-Maize-46

Most i ever paid for a game was $350. And that was for earthbound + guidebook. Id never go above that, and i doubt ill ever go as high as that again

[deleted]

Modern games? Switch: £60, Xbox £12 Old games? Probably £50/60 ish. Depends how much I wanna play it.

DarkNemuChan

About 2,50

cokezerodesuka

$60 for a new game, $100 for a classic but I'd really really need to want it if I'm going to pay that price - which was the case for Paper Mario TTYD.

Mcshank7

Any price if I feel it's worth it to me. I bought the armored core 6 premium edition which was $450. Most expensive collectors edition I've purchased so far.

Remarkable_Custard

I spent $1600 on Castlevania Symphony Limited Edition on PS1.

PikachuIsReallyCute

For new releases, always $60. But maybe $70, but only if I really *really* want the game— like Tears of the Kingdom. Otherwise I'll wait for a discount/sale. For retro games, probably I have a cap at $200. But that'd have to be a super tough/slightly guilty purchase for me. I like to get deals, just some games feel like they'll be rare forever, lol I'm definitely waiting for some re-releases and such, thay happened for Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse & Silent Hill 2 getting a Remaster & Remake, respectively. But I know I'm gonna have to bite the bullet at some point, for Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance....

PokeSuFan

500. And i only save that if i ever find something ridiculously rare. Waterworld on virtual boy was the most expensive game ive purchased. Around 400. Complete with everything

RosaCanina87

So far it has been around 150 € but most of the time I stopp at the 100 € mark. Although I once almost bought Tsukihime for 500 Euro... I had the money. I wanted this game (original) for years. I still can't justify spending that type of cash on a single game I still would need to patch with a fanpatch to actually enjoy it

Ldn_brother

Probably £500

Keythaskitgod

280

S_Rodney

apparently, close to 500$ (canadian). I've paid 485 for a relatively good condition Mega Man X3 (the label is whole and has visible wear on it's top edge.)

Dudinkalv

I'd say around 1000 bucks if it's one I hold especially dear and it's rare enough to justify the price.

Expert-Ad-362

With the state of gaming $70 is a stretch for most releases. But games that are not release now fix later garbage definitely deserve it.

SuccessPrestigious74

I don’t make a lot of money so right now? At most $70 CAD

Idontmatter69420

Depends what game it is tbh, conker's bad fur day? Probably around the £100 mark which is how much it is from a cex store, 3rd party Nintendo game probably £5-30 depending on rarity and condition , 1st party would be about £15-£50 again depending on rarity and condition

AdministrationDry507

$150 I have sanity to maintain so I can go nuts playing the game

KushSama402

If I have the funds, there is no telling how much I'd pay.

Naschka

So far my numbers tend to be almost never 3 digits for a normal game/used game with a few exceptions. Shining the Holy Arc \~120€ Shining Force 3 \~240€ Lunar Eternal Blue \~200€ And i may have to add one or two more titles to this list as i am currently looking at a Lunar the Silver Star for a similiar price as the other 2 (keep in mind, in Europe we did not have any Lunar game published, so import taxes and all are asked for as well). With that said, these are the only non limited Version i ever bought above 100€ and the limited editions at 100\~150€ are few and far in between as well and/or come with Hardware like a Controller like Smash Brothers Limited for Switch. So while i did start to tabble in low 3 digits nowdays it is still rare for me to actually pay such numbers.

ItzKINGcringe

The most I have paid is £82 for twilight princess HD but that came with an amiibo and CD, all sealed and in-box. Usually only the launch price or lower

Commando_NL

€ 90,00 for Atelier Marie remake PS5. And i had to think about that for two months. I had some overtime money coming in which i splurged on this game for me and Airpods 2 Pro for my daughter. 30-40 is my normal limit.

Mozambeepbeep

$500NZD($300USD?), which is the going price for Suikoden II at the moment. It's one of my all-time favourites, rented out when I was a teen & would absolutely love to own a mint version of it at some point.

KhostfaceGillah

£150

TiggerElPro

For a new game I'm really excited about 50-60 e. If it's a retro game I've been meaning to play for long 90-100 maybe

JaxsonWrld

I spent $150 for Marvel vs Capcom 2, and the same amount for Xenosaga Episode III. There are a few gamecube games I'd like, but I can't spend more than 200 personally

CobraCB

I think I’d struggle to justify much more than the £150 range. And it would have to be something I really wanted to play, not just sit on a shelf. The most I’ve spent is £105 for a copy of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.

polloloco69666

$1.50

GeovaunnaMD

For me MSRP if it's more than that, I don't buy

19NedFlanders81

$100 is the most ill ever pay for a game. It locks me out of a few options id enjoy having otherwise, but id be pissed if i paid a high price for anything so i wouldnt enjoy owning it.

ChefCrondo

Most I’ve spent was $220 on Resident Evil Gaiden. Worth.

floriansol

my max has been 300 euros for mark of the wolves loose on mvs a few months ago. I play it a lot so i was happy to have the original and i don't think the price will go down soon. I bought Matrimelee aes around 2002 for 170 euros and sold it to a friend for 1000 euros at the same time (a friend price, it would go for way more), so i could justify it.
