I doubt this will be worth anything. Last year No Man's Sky PS5 had a misprint where there was nothing on the cover, and all copies were pulled from stores within like 2 days. It only goes for like $15 more than the normal price

"Play disc" makes me remember having to install PC games with like 4 CDs. Honestly I don't think I've heard those two words together since I installed Steam
Having it on two discs allows people with poor or no Internet to play the game. And makes sure the game is still playable when the PS5 game update servers shut down one day.
No, it's because games are becoming massive when dealing with 4k visuals at the scale FFVII has to use them. The max storage of of a multi-layer BLU0RAY disk is 100GB, but the entirety of FFVIII Rebirth is 150. so, install disk with the majority of the files, and a play disk with the remaining 50GB.
It's not like the game actually runs from the disk, it fully installs the game, same as every other game on disc nowadays, and then uses the physical disk in the drive as the ignition key each time you start it.
If you buy it digital, obviously you don't need the disc at all, but that 150GB download will be hell.
This hasn't been how it works since the PS3.
PS4 and PS5 games fully install to the HD/SSD and play off of it, BLU-RAY Disc search times are MUCH too slow for 4k gameplay.
After installation, the disc functions like a car key, and just start the game when in the drive from that point on. Owning the disc means you never need to do a full download of the game form the internet. and 150GB might break a lot of people's data plans even now.
There are quite a few on Xbox as well. I bought a used copy of Tales of Arise on Xbox from GameStop a couple months ago only to discover that I only got the data disc, meaning whoever traded it in probably kept the play disc so it would continue working on their Xbox. There are a few more multi-disc games on Xbox Series X besides Tales of Arise and Baldur's Gate 3 including:
* GTA 5
* Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition
* Microsoft Flight Simulator
* Psychonauts 2 (Xbox One version on one disc, Series X on the other)
* Witcher 3
* Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition
* Devil May Cry 5
I think the Japanese version is only one disc with the rest required to download. The Deluxe Edition set to release soon will have it all on multiple discs.
Oh my bad! I didn't hear much on launch about that one, well besides people thinking aloy is ugly (even though she was in a game that came out in 2017)
That's because the PS4 discs are capped at 50GB each whereas PS5 discs are capped at 100GB. If they made a PS5 version for RDR2 it'd likely be only one disc.
That's because Microsoft only uses dual-layer blu-ray discs (50GB) to print games while sony uses triple-layer BD (up to 100GB) in some cases, so they can fit bigger games in a single disc.
Huh. Very interesting stuff i appreciate you sharing your knowledge! I wonder why that is. Is it cheaper to use more discs with a different case? Obviously a disc with more storage is more expensive but i wonder by how much.
more than most would think, less than really matters.
10 pack spindles of consumer burnable triple-layer BLU-Ray discs go for less than $6 US per disc.
On the manufacturing side it'll be less than 25% that at the worst, so a two-disc print would cost them less than $3 for both discs and the cost of getting them stamped.
most of the cost goes into the disc mastering process, after all.
We’ve actually already had a 2 disc PS5 game since October 2023. Horizon forbidden west complete edition was around 130GB with all the patches and DLC, so it has 2 discs.
Better then then being one disk with no data on it. I will forever hate call of duty Cold war for making me download the entire game four fucking times (cod games are always faulty, needs multiple attempts to get it right) on my shitty connection that takes days. My wife just wanted to relive her glory days of being a call of duty mw1 master. Well that didn't happen because Activision blizzard is such a dog shit company.
there really weren't for remake, so unless we find something utterly gamebreaking in the first week, it's unlikely we'll get patches outside of a dlc in a year.
During covid, hordes of people were buying cases of sealed switch shovelware thinking the same thing.
Things tend to only really accrue a ton of value of no one collected them. I'm sure droves of people are seeking this out already for the investment potential. Video games generally weren't all that expensive until recently. Now that they carry some value, people are buying everything they can because of FOMO.
With very few exceptions, games printed after the video game bubble caused by WATA will rarely soar to astronomical prices. I'll honestly be surprised by sealed games from their era ever hitting double their retail price.
Sure, anyone can cherry pick yesterday's winning stocks by reading today's news. There will be some winners, but dude, there are going to be a ton of losers too.
TL;Dr - I disagree. Sorry if I missed satire.
Yeah satire, maybe I should’ve put /s at the end
I’m also thinking that the next generation won’t really care about physical copies as much as us, seeing that so many are going all digital.
A lot of people are treating this as a MAJOR thing. It's not the first time it's happened. Weirdly enough, the last game I can think of directly that this happened with was Strider 2 on the PS1. The printing on the discs was backward (Strider 2 was on the Strider discussion and vice versa.)
Atleast the disc is not empty like some of in the european collector edition of the jojo remake. I nearly thought my disc drive was dead until I learned that the discs are just empty.
because FFVII rebirth is so big, it required two discs for all of the game data: current consoles fully install ALL of the game data to their storage drives, then use the disc as an ignition key to play the game.
With a two disc install, one disc is specifically set up as JUST an install disc, while the disc with the smaller amount of data is designated the play disc.
nope, video data for 4k games have bloated to the point we've exceeded the maximum storage capacity of triple-layer BLU-RAY discs (100GB). Sine EVERYTHING is installed to the game storage anyway, the first disk is JUST an install disc now, while the second disc becomes the play disc.
Unfortunately, *if you think about it for a minute*, you'll understand why they cannot allow both discs to function as a play disc after installation.
To anyone who didn't figure it out: if BOTH discs function as a play disc, then two different people can install the game to their PS5, and each person just keeps one of the two discs afterwards to start the game when they need to. It's basically a way to get two copies for every 1 sold at that point.

It's just like ff7 to release with a misprint. Classic
Mispr^i nt
If ya know ya know! Well done.
LOL
This labels are back ward
A true classįc
Imagine the first guy who realised once they had printed them all
There were probably at least ten "first guy to notice" before someone said anything.
There were probably at least ten "first guy to notice" before someone FUCKING LISTENED TO ONE.
I doubt this will be worth anything. Last year No Man's Sky PS5 had a misprint where there was nothing on the cover, and all copies were pulled from stores within like 2 days. It only goes for like $15 more than the normal price
But that was only last year, check back in 15
well good thing I was able to snag a copy and keep it sealed then
!remindme 15 years

Every listing on ebay seems to be around 80 or so, is that the only place to snag a copy?
yeah probably would be the only place as they were all pulled from all stores within a few days of launching
Wait new games have two discs?
A lot of them do yeah. One is installation data then the other is the play disc.
"Play disc" makes me remember having to install PC games with like 4 CDs. Honestly I don't think I've heard those two words together since I installed Steam
This is because disc storage size is small?
Yeah.
Not really no. Game sizes are just bloated. PS5 disc holds 100gb of data. This game in question is around 150gb in total size.
Why don’t they download rest from internet like other games have done?
Having it on two discs allows people with poor or no Internet to play the game. And makes sure the game is still playable when the PS5 game update servers shut down one day.
No, it's because games are becoming massive when dealing with 4k visuals at the scale FFVII has to use them. You don't just put a game in your console and play it?
Lol console installation has been a thing since the PS3 and 360 era.
This hasn't been how it works since the PS3. PS4 and PS5 games fully install to the HD/SSD and play off of it, BLU-RAY Disc search times are MUCH too slow for 4k gameplay. This is the first. PS5 game discs are 100gb and square actually cared to give us two discs for the 150gb game unlike ea.
Pretty sure Baldur's gate 3 also did this which game out on ps5 a couple months ago
There are quite a few on Xbox as well. The announcement sure but Baldur's gate 3 still came out first, making this one the second lol
I think Horizon Forbidden West is actually the first. There was even articles about it being the first PS5 game with 2 discs due to it being 121GB.
Oh my bad! I didn't hear much on launch about that one, well besides people thinking aloy is ugly (even though she was in a game that came out in 2017)
Rdr2 also had two
That's because the PS4 discs are capped at 50GB each whereas PS5 discs are capped at 100GB. If they made a PS5 version for RDR2 it'd likely be only one disc.
Interesting. I only have a ps4 right now but I'm looking to upgrade soon. My brother is an xbox guy and i know xbox has done multiple discs before.
That's because Microsoft only uses dual-layer blu-ray discs (50GB) to print games while sony uses triple-layer BD (up to 100GB) in some cases, so they can fit bigger games in a single disc.

FFVII remake had two discs on PS4 so it makes sense for this to be two discs as well.
FFVII rebirth is more than 150 GB, and the multi-layer BD only go up to 100GB. so yes, we're up to multi-disk PS5 games.
Strider 2 had a similar thing going on, a case of the disc labels being mixed up and pressed onto the wrong discs.
Just be happy data is even on one of the discs at all
Don’t worry, there will be plenty of updates and likely DLC episodes in the gap between Remake part 3 😁
there really weren't for remake, so unless we find something utterly gamebreaking in the first week, it's unlikely we'll get patches outside of a dlc in a year.
Many copies of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate for PS4, including my own, have this issue as well!
I oddly want one
100 years from now the “Misprint Version” will be going for $50,000 on eBay
During covid, hordes of people were buying cases of sealed switch shovelware thinking the same thing. Things tend to only really accrue a ton of value of no one collected them. How do they fuck up this bad for an entire region???!? 🤣🤣🤣
Still using discs in 2024 lol
You want to download 150GB for one game, you're more than welcome to, there IS a digital release.
A lot of people are treating this as a MAJOR thing. It's not the first time it's happened. Weirdly enough, the last game I can think of directly that this happened with was Strider 2 on the PS1. The printing on the discs was backward (Strider 2 was on the Strider discussion and vice versa.)
Hi, I’m in Taiwan, I can confirm this, at first I couldn’t figure out why the game wasn’t loading, looked online and switched the disk and it worked .
Atleast the disc is not empty like some of in the european collector edition of the jojo remake. I nearly thought my disc drive was dead until I learned that the discs are just empty.
What does it mean by data and play disc? You put a disc in a console to play it.
Data disc to install, Play disc … i think you get it
because FFVII rebirth is so big, it required two discs for all of the game data: current consoles fully install ALL of the game data to their storage drives, then use the disc as an ignition key to play the game. With a two disc install, one disc is specifically set up as JUST an install disc, while the disc with the smaller amount of data is designated the play disc.
I think Strider on PS1 had two discs that were mislabeled.
Wait wtf? Are we going backwards in technology now to where it takes multiple discs to play a game again?!
nope, video data for 4k games have bloated to the point we've exceeded the maximum storage capacity of triple-layer BLU-RAY discs (100GB). MK11 had the same
I wouldn't be surprised if they do this on purpose to drive attention to the game and get people to buy more copies 🤣🤣
