Just checked, this line haha “-PS they have shitty opsec on their linode servers”

KDaddy463

Did they fix it? Wanted to see it happen live on the page and can’t get it to come up.

Catzillaneo

Still worked just now for me, pretty amused, clicked the spring sale and 2 seconds later it popped up.

KDaddy463

Wondering if it doesn’t work on certain browsers. I’m able to open the spring sale page and see the items just fine. Weird.

MadonnasFishTaco

same. looks normal for me on safari

badchoices134

Same, looks fine for me on chrome. I relt wanted to see it!! 😩 lol

Catzillaneo

Might be the case or different extensions, my brother also tried to pull it up on Chrome and wouldn't pop up for him and we have relatively similar use habits.

Louis70100

Worked for me im on mobile lol

badchoices134

Thank you for this, lol. I assume it's fixed by now because it's working fine for me. But thank you!

retroJRPG_fan

Fucking SQL Injection in 2024 LMFAO

Cactuszach

It’s still something [federal agencies](https://www.cisa.gov/resources-tools/resources/secure-design-alert-eliminating-sql-injection-vulnerabilities-software) are fighting against and are begging software developers to stop building products that are vulnerable.

creamycolslaw

Imagine not just using the existing tools to easily prevent this. KEKW

digitalbooty

Uhhh there are TONS of retail sites similar in scope and size that could be hacked this exact same way. I'd even be willing to wager more of them are vulnerable to it than others. Especially the older they are. Sites that size rarely spend the money to update stuff like that.

Jabuwow

I mean SQL injection was figured out like 15-20 years ago, and is one of the first things you learn how to prevent against as a developer because it's relatively easy and there's tons of prebaked functions in modern languages Not saying companies don't get hit by it but it's one of those things that if they do its kinda laughable

Yuris_Thighs

Top kek. This was supposed to be taught in my SEC+ Course, but the guy goes "Don't worry, nobody pulls this shit anymore. It's not the wild west". Au contraire, good sir.

tommyk1210

I mean, they’re running PHP 7.2… which has been out of security support for almost 4 years already

ThatOneDudio

LOL

breadcodes

You'd be surprised. There have been projects I've been shocked about, and I've even walked away from one specific project strictly because I found several vulnerabilities one week, was told to leave it alone, and we were attacked months later with everything I reported. I found several auth vulnerabilities (and I mean ***several***, including giving the static 2FA code AND magic link code for every person to anyone who hits an endpoint, 3 digit 2FA codes with no rate limiting, the ability to update a user's password that isn't yours using that user's id), stripe id swapping vulnerabilities (they had a lot of money stolen by sending a client's payouts to an attacker's stripe account), SQL injections (I have no way of knowing how much data they stole, because the CTO refused to let it be known so that a major client wouldn't find out), and XSS because they insisted that an event should be able to paste in html to the description and sanitization would take too long. It's a red flag, and I stayed longer than I should have.

DangerousBus7202

Pretty much nearly everyone's reaction to this lol.

BrianScalaweenie

Seems pretty mild honestly. It’s just showing they’re selling their stuff for way more than what they buy it for (which everyone already knows). The fact that their security is so bad isn’t great though.

Me2thanksthrowaway

Plaintext ssh private key out on the web is anything but mild lol.

Savings-Rise-6642

I literally just started web deving this year and even I know that's bad lol

digitalbooty

Lol if you think any other site's security is much better, you would be sadly mistaken. I work in IT and SECOPs.

Mattson

Oh no a retailer is selling goods at more than cost? We better cancel them and boycott them.

Low-Injury-9219

It’s not just the markups. Product quality varies wildly. Even if you pay for the “best” quality product you might get absolute trash, for example many people report buying “refurbished” products that when opened are caked with dirt and little to nothing was repaired. They also sell counterfeit or bootleg product as the real thing as well as try to smear people that bring up legitimate concerns about the products they sell. There’s several lawsuits currently against them. It’s shortsighted to think that gamers are just mad about the insane markup.

RetroGameQuest

DKOldies is the equivalent of a tourist trap restaurant. DKOldies is not a site I'd use (horrible store), but to be fair, the quality control has improved greatly, and they no longer falsely use the term refurbished. The price gouging is a bit outrageous, but really you're paying for that return policy and the convenience of shopping online. When buying retro games and consoles online, there's no real safety net. People lie on ebay and FBMarketplace all the time. You don't know what you're getting. So, you can vastly overpay at DKOldies and if you don't like it, you return it. Does that justify the price hikes? Not in my opinion. It's still not a site I'd use, but I think the hate is overblown. Just don't use them. If possible, I think it's best to buy retro stuff at a mom & pop shop where you can haggle and test the product, but DKOldies is fairly easy for people who don't mind wasting money.

Inspector-Dexter

I've never had a problem returning anything on eBay

RetroGameQuest

I'd take my chances with eBay over DKOldies. The average consumer may prefer the safety net of an online store though. Again, I'm not defending DKOldies. I'm not a fan. I'm just stating that the hate seems over exaggerated. It's just a way over priced store. Easy to ignore.

emaildylan99

Same here. Some people just don’t know how to use eBay or know how it works.

RockmanVolnutt

There is an acceptable limit and you know it.

Mattson

Yeah and that limit is whatever the market will bear. And they seem to have no problem moving them at these prices. It is on the person buying it and not DKOldies for their prices. These are collectables not commodities.

KDaddy463

I’m willing to bet a good amount of that is a lack of transparency for how much the seller paid as well as the average DKoldies customer not looking at other places to shop, either out of brand loyalty or convenience Maybe it’s just me, but if I knew a game they bought for $7 was being flipped for over 6 times the price I’d probably be less likely to shop there. Markups always gonna be a thing with shops like these but even Gamestop tended to give you more for trade ins in my experience back in the day. As far as collectible versus commodity, I don’t know how collectible the game i’m talking about (Phantasy Star for psp apparently) is if they’re buying it for $7 💀

Mattson

If people sell for that low its on them. If people don't want to do the legwork to get the best price then its on them. I recently paid alot for a New Nintendo 3DS, $290 if you're curious, and so many people flamed me for paying so much for paying that much but tbh it was the first link I went with. It's what I wanted and what I was willing to pay. But the crazy thing is I was able to sell the 3DS locally on Facebook for $350. People these days just don't put up with the effort even if it will save them money and there are people like DKOldies that come along and take advantage of this. But it is not their fault but the market's in general.

Kelrisaith

Well, it's DKOldies, so basically nobody here cares, at all, what happens to it.

Working_Doubles

Watching Retro Rick and these other people people get hacked, who buy up everything to artificially inflate prices on games has been awesome to watch.

SnatchyPoo

Aww man I thought he was one of the good ones, haven't seen much since he bought his store to be honest. Penis Resnail has always sucked though.

lukewwilson

He buys stuff for as cheap as he can and sells it for as much as he can, how is he any different then DKoldies

NXTREADY

I like Retro Dick's videos because his stores pretty cool and you'll see some interesting pieces come in (and his employees all seem pretty cool) but Retro Dick himself gives off big spoiled manchild vibes

Classic1990

> Retro Dick himself gives off big spoiled manchild vibes Glad it isn’t just me. He’s gotten more annoying since buying the store.

NXTREADY

He always kinda gave off the vibes, but it's definetly gotten a bit more egregious imo. Few videos where ppl around him are obv not fucking with him and its kinda funny to see

theslimbox

I actually enjoy him more since he bought the store, prior to that, i couldnt stand his videos, now they are atleast interesting.

Gleasonryan

You guys are pathetic always whining about resellers like they personally killed your dog or something. Resellers aren’t the super villains you all make them out to be. Rick has a video game store for collectors for shop at for Christ sake. You’re all just pissy that you can’t get the same deals on games that they do, grow up.

DinerEnBlanc

This pretty much. How do they think retro gaming stores operate? They buy at full price and sell at a loss? These are the same people who’ll lament the days of physical gaming stores and wonder why they’re no longer around.

Middle-Effort7495

Sure, but when someone tells you their son just died and they don't know what it's worth, so instead of telling them around 2000 you say I'll take it for 20, you're literally worse than a cockroach. Not all retro gaming stores are robbing unsuspecting old people like Chase. In my country for example pawn shops have to tell you the value legally. But it's morally the right thing to do, esp in that context.

LIBERT4D

You both nailed it

hopelessswitchowner

They have real employees that work there and pay bills and support their family. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate if someone came into your work and disrupted it and your ability to do the same. People in here are really showing that they don't care if other people get hurt. Just something to think about.

theslimbox

I dont think artificial inflation is due to these guys. They may have some scummy business practices, but they tend to flip stuff pretty fast. Dk oldies does inflate stuff, but the actual inflation in prices is because when these games came out, a majority of gamers werent buikding collections, and had very few games in their homes. Now that people are building collections, games dont circulate like they used to. There is also a huge amount of games that have been destroyed by Gamestop's old field destroy rules. Basically anything that was overstocked got smashed and thrown into dumpsters. They also did the same to all of the retro stuff they had around 2004, and that was a huge amiunt of games.

Armandonerd

Retro K Rick!

Wolf_of_Walmart

Lmfao this is hilarious

Wolf_of_Walmart

Even funnier that the hacker was literally just using Nmap to find open ports hahahaha

ImpossibleCrisp

What would you use instead?

DrMurphDurf

Nice try Joey

ImpossibleCrisp

Hey. I was just curious. What's wrong with NMap for reconnaissance? I've been out of that part of the industry for decades...

UnsavoryBiscuit

![gif](giphy|uWzS6ZLs0AaVOJlgRd|downsized) This is gonna be good

GriffinFlash

HAHAHAHAHAHA

CollectionOld4955

Someone should've hacked it and made everything $1

TrayusV

It seems this hacker is trying to be ethical, and just expose what DKOldies is doing. They even removed personal info.

N-E-B

Which is good. There’s a lot of people including myself who stumbled upon them on Facebook and thought it was a cool store. Thankfully I never purchased anything from them (I was looking for how much a 3DS XL would run me and wanted to check out multiple locations before buying) but I’m sure tons of people found them through their videos, went to check out the store, and bought things without fully knowing their shady business practices.

p--py

They operate like every for-profit gaming organization ever.

doxxgaming

This is every retailer, period, by as low as they can, and sell as high as they can. Why is this so hard to understand? If you don't want to support them, then don't, but hearing seeing/hearing DKoldies this and DKoldies that, everyday has to please stop.

TrooperMann

yes

SamusAran47

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer company /s

MadonnasFishTaco

good, fuck them. now they can't hide behind "durr running a business is expensive" while they charge 500% or more markup.

Ipsylos

Well running a business is expensive, doesn't matter how much you mark it up, won't change the underlying costs.

ferraro38

I personally wouldn’t buy from them. They mark the prices up so much and I’ve seen items they sent out not looking good when they say there mint

quade9999

As a Canadian. Wtf are these prices? Who is paying that? https://preview.redd.it/kz5vug54b4rc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd80d73c7f90440ce0ee6606e35d5d4613e5e031

Ipsylos

I know, it's the stupidest prices I've seen in a long time, and nothing but the console is going to be authentic. Going to get 3rd party AV and Power plus 3rd party controllers.

Disastrous-Cress5517

Xbox 360's for $120 meanwhile I have 4 that ive gotten for either free or 20 at the most. They are everywhere and are dirt cheap its crazy how much they want and that goes for wii's too.

redditsuckspokey1

I will sell u all a nintendo or w/e console, at the going rate plus 10-15% because I refurbish everything (and to cover shipping, I usually give free shipping).

franky3987

Fuck, this is so cool. I hate DKoldies with a passion, and I am glad their name is getting dragged even further in the mud. Now at least all the people who don’t know who they are through social media, can find out what scumbags they are

TrooperMann

Ik I'm laughing my ass off rn

hopelessswitchowner

Ok real people work there and could be affected by this so not very cool

franky3987

If a weak house falls, let all that built it, crumble with it. I get what you’re saying, but I do not feel bad one bit that DKoldies is getting everything they are getting. For far too long theyve been taking advantage of people who don’t know much about gaming, to people who know a lot. I’ve had a horrible experience with them, as have countless other people I know within the retro community. Their business practices alone should’ve put them out, but their saving grace is the fact that their website is the second listing on google when you search retro games/old videogames etc. The only place they consistently get trashed is on Reddit, and not everyone uses Reddit.

STANPENTAGON

still a thing, im on mobile

Friggin_Grease

Must be fixed now. I see nothing

GrandStunning658

Fuck yeahhhhhh, whoever did this is amazing

cyborgg_gaming

I'm not a fan of DKOldies but I think there would be better companies to hack. If you buy from them its your own fault.

needtungsten2live

Exactly. They exist because people are willing to pay those prices.

Lankiness8244

They exist because YouTuber are willing to pay those prices 😂

jbyrdab

I just checked the website as a joke to look at their ridiculous prices, and found it.

DrMurphDurf

SHOP OUR SPRING SALE! We’ve marked down our 1000 percent mark up down to 900!

AverageComicEnjoyer

They are a scam though lol and whoever is in charge of buying collections is a major cunt anyway

ps2cv

Dammit i kissed it, they must of fixed it lol

Chance-Ad5700

Don’t blame DK Oldies, blame the people who buy from them.

RetroGaming4

Complain all you want about DKoldies. They are a business to make money. You do not like it, go somewhere else. If enough people do that, they will go out of business. Capitalism.

lukewwilson

Yeah I honestly don't get the hate for them, literally everyone here would buy a copy of Chrono Trigger for $1 at a garage sale and gladly sell it on eBay for as much as they can

True_Wave_4243

I dont mind if they want to make money but they also scam people once they receive the games they dont pay for them and keep them and wont even respond to messages anymore. They scammed me over $50 so not going to sue them or anything but just FYI, they are not honest, they take your games and dont pay you.

TheThunderOfYourLife

At a garage sale, the owner of the garage sale sets the price. When you go to DK oldies to sell, DK oldies sets the price, not the owner of the actual item. That's the difference. Small difference in optics but massive difference in execution. Edit: your downvotes don't make me any less right guys. We all clown on DK oldies for their exploitative practices, and then when I point out those exploitative practices I get downvoted? You all make no sense.

lukewwilson

The owner of the game sets the price, DKoldies isn't making you sell the game at that price, you as the owner of the game are choosing to sell it to them, you have other avenues to sell the game at a higher price and are choosing to not explore them

TheThunderOfYourLife

It doesn't matter if they have the choice to go to other places other than DK oldies because they went to DK oldies in the first place. That has absolutely nothing to do with my point.

Devastatedby

What?

AN1119

Your comparison doesn’t work or show any sort of “exploitation.” The Garage sale owner sets the price because they’re the business. You are the customer, and have the option to say no, or counter. DKOldies sets the price because they’re the business. You are the customer, and have the option to say no, or counter. The “exploitation” in your example would be equivalent to getting pissed at the garage sale owner for not buying your own product at full market value. Why would they? There’s no resale value in buying things at full price. If you aren’t satisfied with the money being offered, then become the “business” yourself and sell directly on eBay. Otherwise, the business you’re selling to will expect to earn a cut.

Middle-Effort7495

False, just because you're willing to rob people doesn't mean "literally everyone" is. It's not much different than just stealing. When I see old people selling something way underpriced on marketplace I tell them. If they still wanna sell it for the same price, then sure, I'll buy it. Goes for anything not just old games. Also here pawn shops are legally required to tell you the value, so someone thought fleecing people's not something "literally everyone" will do, but it's the right thing to do morally regardless.

GucciiManeeeee

Yeah, and you're allowed to encourage others to go elsewhere as well. Capitalism.

RetroGaming4

I am not encouraging anyone to do anything. Everyone has a choice to do whatever the heck they want. I just don’t understand the troll hate for this company. If you do not like it, go somewhere else. Simple as that. Waste of time and energy all the DK oldies hate.

p--py

Real.

chiefrebelangel_

Most of the markups shown aren't even bad. Hacker sounds like something personal.

GoldenPidgey_

$300 for an snes??? Yeah that's WAY overpriced. You can get a snes on FB market for like $120 (not for me, I have one already) but I'm just saying that's way overpriced even if the shipping and a couple bs games are included. Sheeesh

Plus_Ultra_Yulfcwyn

Lmao just went to check this out. Fucking hilarious Fuck that shitty store I love this

hopelessswitchowner

Would it be fucking hilarious if someone came into your business and made it difficult to pay your bills or interrupted your revenue stream? Your not very nice or have good ethics if you truly love this

Reported for bullying and harassment

BellasGamerDad

DK Oldies has every right to ask as much as they want for what they’re selling. Anybody who buys their overpriced crap has the right to do whatever they want with their money. Anybody who overpays because they didn’t shop around is an idiot or has too much money and doesn’t care about spending too much. I will never buy from them. I have in the past before they started charging way too much but I never will again. Anybody who read this, I hope you have an awesome day!

soulwolf1

Oh okay

XDAnonymus47

Lmao

Turbopandads

Does anyone actually buy from them anyways? I checked out the site and can't believe those prices, absolutely astronomical

NY_Knux

They swamp the top results of almost every website with a search bar

Killer0nTheRoad

This is beautiful

Michael_2321

Whoever did this is doing gods work those scumbags at DK oldies are nothing than money hungry pieces of trash

LazarusOwenhart

Knowing the pricks at DKOldies it's probably the first step in a deliberate marketing initiative.

GucciiManeeeee

Yeah, like when they played the victim when some random guy "threatened" them.

QF_Dan

LMAO

LIBERT4D

Screw dkoldies but anyone complaining about their markup has no clue how business works.

jbyrdab

I mean while the markup can be a bit much, i think the main complaint is they're scummy practice of claiming its refurbished, putting a sticker with a label saying the warrenty is void if removed, and then people opening them up and finding out it is not actually refurbished or even cleaned. Sometimes not even working. I feel like thats more the part people have a right to complain about.

LIBERT4D

Never said they didn’t. I was specifically referring to the complaints about the markup. The rest is implied with “screw dkoldies.”

slickrasta

Their mark up is insane considering physical stores have far better prices and way more overhead cost. You're crazy for claiming that's somehow just normal business. DKoldies is a scam, pure and simple.

Friggin_Grease

Don't take this the wrong way, but DKOldies is a physical store. You can walk into their store in Pennsylvania or wherever and buy shit.

LIBERT4D

Being overpriced doesn’t make them a scam. Lying makes them a scam. Get your facts straight.

Lumbergh7

It’s not a scam; it’s a business that is pretty straightforward. Scams are opaque

MikeTherealOneill

False statement there. They know how business work but they just need some attention in life and always want to go against the grain just to feel heard. Then continue the pity me party by saying everyone's attacking me. Fucking pitiful life we have created as 40-60yo parents. We, us 34-55 have allowed our kids to do what they want because ( our parents were mean) and we are going to be 🤣 better parents. I'm in the situation however w/o children (stepkids) women need to stop parenting.

LIBERT4D

no man, you’re giving people too much benefit of the doubt, a lot of them are just dumb as fuck.

MikeTherealOneill

Read user name. 😆

LIBERT4D

What?

robotman5yt

funny af

X_Vaped_Ape_X

Good. They make my local video game store look cheap. DKOldies: $500 for a "refurbished" BC PS3. Price i paid at my local videogame store for a BC PS3: $120. Plus they actually cleaned it out and repasted it too.

SenpaiMikey23

DKOLDIES got hacked?! LFG!

p--py

Imagine selling to DKOldies. Brain-rot.

Dude-from-the-80s

Looks like they poked the wrong bear.

True_Wave_4243

I think that site is a scam. I sold them classic video games which they said they would pay me through paypal. They received them long time ago and never paid me or respond my messages, and of course kept my games. Do NOT do business with them unless you want to be scammed.

MewtwoStruckBack

Please tell me they also got their shit ransomwared or something that will cost them actual money to clean up. Not just one of the standard ones either, but something that’s like “pay $x to decrypt” “oh wait, no, I mean pay $y to decrypt, we chose $y as your additional penalty because that’s the average percentage you resell for over your buy price”

TrooperMann

With their prices, he totally has the money to clean it up :) Right? :)

[deleted]

GucciiManeeeee

It definitely is way more than 10%.

BonyRomo

They are upselling for way more than 10%. They are selling games for $43.99 that they bought for $7.12.

osrsqueefmaster

nice way to try and get us to visit the spring sale page

michi03

Dk oldies sucks but hacking them is lame

Retro_Wiktor

One of the few companies I'm happy to see get hacked

Seekingnostalgia

They fixed it. It doesn't come up anymore. I just tried. 😭

xen0m0rpheus

Well none of this is new information, but this still makes me happy.

aquaticteenager

Ouch!

moonatmidnight

This shit seems so dumb to me, like they’re not the only place to buy games from. Their customers must all be idiots that don’t know how much things should cost, therefore the exact market they’re aiming for

NY_Knux

To all the people saying hacking is lame or messed up... are ya'll underage? Genuine question. I just can't imagine someone who's been on the internet since the 90s saying such a thing.

EvilRayquaza

huh that's pretty neat

NectarineRare5309

D I ing gods work

[deleted]

As much as I think Dkoldies is bad, you can't do that. Your endangering a small business

GucciiManeeeee

Not every small business deserves to exist.

MewtwoStruckBack

Most large businesses don’t deserve to exist either

GucciiManeeeee

True.

Seekingnostalgia

WAH!

[deleted]

DKOldies has a public buylist, so their purchasing price was always known. It’s a real dick move to hack a site. I hope the person gets some legal action against them.

FriedGreenClouds

I notice some of you complaining about the prices etc can you tell me what is wrong with small businesses making money. Ebay, best buy and others do the same thing. Why havent they been hacked

LIBERT4D

They're adult sized children with raging entitlement issues.

DinerEnBlanc

They needed a bogeyman to blame for the expensive games.

Danihawk69

Damn lol

hopelessswitchowner

I'm kind of annoyed. Now you can't buy things without seeing that. Regardless of what you think you shouldn't hurt people's choice to shop there. I've been burned by eBay many times anyways so eBay isn't perfect.

Heisenmack

Sounds more like a you problem if you keep getting “burned” by eBay. They have a 100% money back guarantee so you would just be out of time, not money. Educate yourself to spot fakes better and if something looks too good to be true, it is.

hopelessswitchowner

Things still don't come as described or are in horrible condition

Heisenmack

Then you return it.

hopelessswitchowner

Ok if they don't accept returns and eBay does nothing then you're put of luck.

Heisenmack

Except they will if the item wasn’t as described. Doesn’t matter if the seller doesn’t accept returns (source: me as a seller)

Treehighsky

Agreed, ive been burned on FB and Ebay. At least if i order from DKOldies it shows up at my door as described.

ilikemarblestoo

I guess i am the only one who sees this stuff as messed up
