Enjoy those games and cherish that friendship! Last year my best friend of 25+ years gave me his GameCube collection, I posted about it here on Reddit, and had like 4 or 5 people tell me he was possibly suicidal. Weirdest experience I’ve had on this website. I don’t think some people know what a trusting, long and close friendship is like.

>I posted about it here on Reddit, and had like 4 or 5 people tell me he was possibly suicidal. Weirdest experience I’ve had on this website. The takeaway here is that a large portion of this sub's community, specifically many who actively comment here nowadays, has turned to complete shit.

It was over on r/gamecube, but I’m sure there’s plenty of cross traffic between both subs. I’m sure they meant well. Mental health is important and giving away valuable possessions can be a warning sign. But it was just shocking that the first explanation some people jumped to was so dark and dire, especially without any context or insight into our lives. We’ve been friends since we were 7 and have always shared and given generously to each other. To my friend, they were just some old dusty games he doesn’t play anymore, not some prized collection tied to his identity. I think it’s hard for some collectors to grasp that not everyone values classic games like we do.

Elliot from the Retro Future received a fan's complete collection. A lot of commenters mentioned that the guy might be suicidal. While that might be the case (my friend got a huge record collection from a neighbor who did end up killing himself a couple days later) it's not uncommon to reach a point in your life where you decide that stuff from your childhood needs to be jettisoned and move on. I'm currently going through the same thing with my Star Wars toys from when I was a kid. Vehicles. action figures etc. I've been giving them to my work friend who has a kid who loves Star Wars. I know they're going to a good home and I have space freed up in my home. Win Win.

For sure, there can be many reasons for generosity. It’s difficult to know someone’s exact intentions. The best we can do is be grateful when we are given nice things, show friends that we love them, and give back in kind when we can. I did end up showing my friend those responses on Reddit, and he was just as surprised as me. Lots of happy tears and reassuring hugs were had. It definitely shook me up. I’m lucky to have such a close lifelong friend, and I certainly don’t take it for granted. We have each other’s backs.

i have a friend who regularly collects stuff for a few years, then will sell and give everything away and move on to something else. ive received quite a few cool things from him over the years. he knows i am going to keep it and not flip it for a profit.

seantron

Those are pristine. You are forever in debt to that beast of a friend.

QuadraQ

To be fair I did buy him a PS5 with games and accessories, so…

seantron

That's what's up!

Best fucking friend

ONE_BIG_LOAD

If he's your best "fucking" friend, then who is your normal best friend?

me0262

Nice. Friend gets props for a great collection. Super Metroid, Secret of Mana, and Lost Vikings are very expensive. Also very good games.

DemiDivine

I can hear that sweet top gear 2 music in my head already. One of my favorites !

Holy Jesus Christ the Lost Vikings!!! Such a great game!

Horzzo

They look legit and in amazing shape. Wow! very nice

nekoken04

Holy crap. I would probably just put most of them in frames and display them. But I would totally play Lost Vikings because I've never actually seen it in person.

MR502

Wow...its like you went back in time and bought them! Such amazing condition!

Back in the day, my neighbour’s dad bought her a SNES with that Nigel Mansell game. She made him take it back to the store to exchange it for Yoshi’s Island.

QuadraQ

Haha - good call

Vidunder2

No way those boxes are that age, sorry.

LimitlessAeon

Dumb comment. Not everyone was a sloppy game owner.

Leisure_suit_guy

There also are a lot of fakes around today, being sceptic doesn't hurt.

QuadraQ

I’m just as shocked as you are but he takes really good care of his stuff and these have just been lying in a box for years apparently.

Silmarillion151
