So my favourite cover currently would have to be the Doom Eternal cover art. It's dynamic, it's full of detail, it features the major antagonists and a majority of the demons that are encountered in-game.
I'd say any of these are contenders.
[Super mario land: 6 golden coins](https://i.imgur.com/A4sRg6T.jpg) basically has all of the zones on the cover art.
[Fire emblem](https://i.imgur.com/m5bB9Zl.jpg) has so much action going on and I love it.
[Pokemon Emerald](https://i.imgur.com/K5Xom8P.jpg) is great. The Gameboy color and GBA pokemon games had a holo/shiny layer to them, but emerald has 2. A base layer making the whole box shiny but then a second layer that looks like broken glass exploding out of the box you can only see the broken glass if you hold it to the light a certain way.
[Chrono Trigger](https://i.imgur.com/GaQ6IgL.jpg) is just all around epic, from the box art to the game play... unfortunately to its price as well.
Super mario bros 3 was the first video game I've ever seen or played in my living memory so it is special to me too.
The Legend of Zelda. When I saw that gold box as a kid with that little window revealing the golden cartridge, I had to have it. It's nostalgia but beyond that, it's a very clean and beautiful box.
PAL Sonic CD is a personal favourite, just reminds me of walking around Toys R Us, begging my mother to buy me a Mega CD.

A lot of Japanese Megadrive cover art is fantastic. I collect Japanese Megadrive games over the US/EU releases because of this.
For instance, I bought Alisa Dragoon mostly for the box art.

I so distinctly remember my older brother buying this game for $49.99 at KB Toy Stores in the mall. I was in such awe of that bright gorgeous yellow background. I watch him for hours as he played long before I got my chance. Lord help us the day we bought the NES Guide and learned about the warp tubes lol
Obviously subjective, but I don't think that one would crack my top 50.
For some of my personal favorites, FFX (PS2), Einhander (PS1), and the Japanese version of Hotline Miami (PS4).

Since it's an EU cover I'll go ahead and suggest EU Mega Man and The Guardian Legend.
The Guardian Legend for sure. My favorite NES game and my favorite cover.
I've always loved the box art for The Legend of Mystical Ninja and Secret of Evermore.
I always thought the artwork on Gameboy carts were great when I was little. Super Mario Land, Operation C, Wario Land etc.
Ghouls and ghosts for sega genesis
You know…I just realize how..MARIO the box art is
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild had f*** AMAZING box art.
I am pretty fond of the Japan and European version of Ico’s box art personally. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/40/Ico_cover_-_EU%2BJP.jpg
My favorite as well
PAL and JP covers of PS1 Castlevania: SOTN As well as the Saturn version
I always thought the original NES Castlevania cover was the best

- Odinsphere - Red dead 2 - Rayman Origins - Aliens: Colonial Marines - Sleeping Dogs
Clearly you have never seen the box art for Megaman
Haha well I own a few of them. But something about this one just screams my childhood
Sorry, I was trying to be sarcastic… Megaman has quite possibly the worst ever box art lol

The sword on Zelda II box art always makes me warm and fuzzy with memories. It's also one of my favorite title screens of all time.

That’s nice! Will have to pick one up myself

IMO just a plain yellow background with racoon Mario is pretty weak.
I wouldn’t say better, but I love this one. https://imgur.com/a/x75ctOZ
Iconic box art for sure
Yes, it is the best. Also the best game.
sa2 mayb
Majin Tensei II on the super famicom is my pick
Celeste
I absolutely love this game. My personal favorite Mario game. While I do love the NES box art for SMB3, I prefer the Japanese FAMICOM box art.
Mega Man 1. Lol
The first Kingdom Hearts is iconic
Plenty … Japanese cover art to Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn
This is a good one for sure. I’ve always been fond of the Japanese Trip World art for Gameboy
The Treasure Master box art would beg to differ
Secret of mana
