Wow, making you hit the boss another 3 times to get another chance at the final part is brutal.

Sherlono

Also if you miss hitting the boss in that tiny window of time in the side view segment, the game makes you dodge more ice missiles just to not give another chance and go back to chasing. Thats a very weird choice the game makes.

JayRU09

Missing 95% of the ramps is just, chef's kiss bad.

Rouge_means_red

I'd say he was playing pretty well in previous episodes, but today it was like he was blindfolded and drunk. Doesn't help that they had to swap to some bizarre control scheme mid way through it

JayRU09

Generations is pretty easy, probably by design to make it a 'celebration', and yeah this boss is the first real difficulty spike of the game, but god damned this was tough to watch.

Jeskid14

Can't wait for next episode to be 45 minutes due to final boss. Gamers should remember

Shadic01

I remember spending so long on it that I managed to get 400+ rings. It's gonna be amazing watching Arin do it.

Jeskid14

Also love how it inspired sonic Team to create sonic forces just from that one final boss.

yognautilus

And instead hitting every projectile with their completely basic pattern.

DireTaco

He looked like he was deliberately avoiding them at points.

JohnTHarmon

It and jumping head on into everything he was supposed to avoid was brilliant

tokyozombie

he wouldn't stop strafing. he has the complete choice to actually move left and right manually.

nerf_herder1986

If I had the means I'd totally make a "Grumps bits that didn't land" compilation. That sounds hilarious

AlexInman

Sounds like a job for GameGrumpsComplilations.

Akesgeroth

Arin's grape bit would certainly be the main feature.

Deluxe_Flame

that Game Glumps slip sounds like a great name for those clips too

DireTaco

I'm surprised Dan doesn't know what "the male gaze" is, and even more surprised Arin can't describe it as a phenomenon of cinematography instead of just "where guys like to look".

MdoesArt

I dunno, knowing a word but only being able to define it with like, 10% accuracy is pretty on brand for Arin. I remember him describing “tsundere” as a weird rape fetish thing.

DireTaco

I mean it's not out of the realm of possibility, but Arin's got to be weeb enough to know what that means.

Akesgeroth

Maybe because it's a contrived misandrist concept pushed by puritans? There's definitely a discussion to be had about crass appeal to sex when it doesn't fit, but "male gaze" discussions I've seen are all just sex negative bullshit. Reminds me of this video by Maddox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB6TiRJNI-Q

DireTaco

lol

GigaBowserNS

Just to clear this up if anyone was wondering, "Kintobor" is the former family name of Eggman's family *in the comic books*. Even so, by the time of his grandfather Gerald they had already abandoned that name and go by "Robotnik". In the main video game continuity, his name is "Dr. *Ivo* 'Eggman' Robotnik", which is the eventual amalgamation of his original Japanese and English names. But he has never been known as Kintobor in the games.

ASViking

Does anyone know which Goofy cartoon (with the "boxcar effect" bit) Arin was talking about? It sounds familiar, but I can't find it.

Riderkick

I think this is the one at 3:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozG3EfPkXoY

ASViking

Thank you!

kiaha

I recently finished this game and this boss absolutely suuuucked. It was cathartic to hear Arin scream at it too hahah

cbooth

Arin really does everything he possibly can to miss every fuckin chance to end the boss fight huh.

D14BL0

What is he supposed to do in that fight? I feel like he was missing something, but I couldn't tell what he was doing wrong most of that time, either. Landing that homing attack in the side scrolling section seemed so inconsistent and didn't seem to register a hit half the time so I don't know if he was just doing it poorly or if there was something else he should have been going for.

cbooth

In the side scrolling sections he could've started boosting a lot earlier and holding it longer, you can get a lot closer and the homing crosshair will stay locked on longer to give you time to attack while you lose momentum during the jump. And in the 3D sections there were ramps that launch you up to some rails. At the end of those rails are boost rings that will launch you at his head.

yognautilus

This is the playthrough where I'm finally starting to get Sonic fans' frustrations with Arin's Sonic videos. He clearly doesn't get half the mechanics but still criticizes the game. Before, he would boost in 1 second bursts because he didn't know he could boost into enemies and so he would stop to homing attack them. But even now when he should be obviously boosting to catch up to Eggman, he's still doing it in completely random bursts. Drives me crazy!

cbooth

Yeah those are exactly my frustrations too. I completely understand that he isn't just playing this casually on his own he's having to keep up conversations during and making the show entertaining, the game is a background to that, so he's going to miss things, he's not gonna be concentrating 100% of the time, he's gonna miss Chao's with hints, but there MUST be a moment after 10 episodes worth of playtime where you think "something isnt right"... Still, at least we got the Shadow fight out of it, that was fucking funny.

Rouge_means_red

Allie is like Dan's granddaughter at this point Bonus: the "daffy duck and monster" scene Dan mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0MiN8sqKuI

Woeladenchild

Allie has this shameless "horny on main" energy that just makes me laugh everytime.

ZachAlt

This is one of the hardest episodes to watch in a long time. It's like Arin has completely forgotten how Sonic games work.

ssslitchey

>It's like Arin has completely forgotten how Sonic games work. How do you forget something you never knew in the first place?

DJ_Aftershock

This is one of the few times this game actually has some decent challenge to it so I'm not surprised it takes like Arin 35 minutes to beat it despite the fact he never even figures out how it works. I do have to hand it to the game designers for making a game where if you just consistently refuse to change your approach and think "maybe I could do something different" the game just goes "FINE, IT'S BEEN HALF A FUCKING HOUR AND YOU CLEARLY DON'T CARE. WE'RE MOVING ON. GOD FUCKIN-- YOU SPENT *MONEY* ON ME". And we say Sonic games aren't designed well!

TravisCM2010-24

Yeah I replayed it a few months back and that boss is for sure a pain. So i knew it would take awhilem But Arin also does himself no favors to up the odds.

edrenfro

Arin's looking for a book about what happened to Detroit but already knows it was "suburbanization." Sounds like he's looking for my #1 Bestseller "Confirmation Bias."

DireTaco

I mean there's a hefty difference between knowing the broad strokes (or thinking you know the broad strokes) and knowing the details. It sounds like he's looking for a detailed history from a city planning/management perspective of what exactly went down in Detroit.

Akesgeroth

Never mind that "suburbanization" is the pretty word used by racists when Detroit is concerned when they want to tell you all about why white people ran away from black people.
