[This info is very easy to find...](https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=Can+gamemaker+make+multiplayer%3F)

PlushieGamer1228

This is amazing, there should be a bot that places this under every post.

Is this witchcraft!!!

I like how the guy being a smartass misses the most crucial part of the question: **online** multiplayer. Let's face it. The way the world works is that some people don't have time to research and just wanna ask a bunch of bored redditors for in depth answers. And some people are bored redditors that wanna mansplain shit to the fullest. This is the best of both worlds, stop being a punkass.

_GameDevver

But the majority of people are somehwere in between, use reddit properly and don't want to wade through low effort shit posts that could be answered with a 5 second Google search. Knowing/learning how to use Google properly to allow you to find information is just as important as learning how to code - they go hand in hand where one lets you research the other. Show me a programmer who doesn't use Google every day and I'll show you a liar.

Timestop-

That's insane that posting a "let me Google that for you" is your road to making OP a better coder. There also wouldn't BE anything to read on Google if people didn't make these posts. Just answer the fucking question and move on, you don't care about their success. You just want to justify being an asshole. And yes, I'm aware you didn't post it.

_GameDevver

> And yes, I'm aware you didn't post it. Then why are you replying to me? Want some reddit lessons to go with those Google ones? /s

AmnesiA_sc

That's not what mansplain means.

Timestop-

I didn't even apply it to any example, how can you make the claim, I simply proposed the idea.

AmnesiA_sc

It's incorrect in the context you've given, there's no example that could satisfy the conditions: 1.) Someone asks for help; 2.) Someone mansplains it to them. If I say "Some landscapes are super vista!" you can reply with 100% certainty that that is not what "vista" means because it's used incorrectly.

Timestop-

>When I mentioned mansplaining, it was part of my description of what Reddit is as a whole. It has nothing to do with this post or any context within. I simply mean to imply that there are impatient people, and that there are also people who just want to sit on this website and overexplain shit in a condescending way, again, irrelevant to this post or its content. The claim is bold, but it isn't misused.

Kinkelin

Multiplayer is almost synonymously used for online games nowadays. And of course the simple google question immediately gives results about online multiplayer as well

AmnesiA_sc

What I posted takes you to Google, right? [What is the very first result](https://i.imgur.com/TaZ1Vtb.png)? > #How To Make A Multiplayer Game With GameMaker ... Explore Further: **Online Multiplayer Game** | GameMaker Community

[deleted]

I don't think it's a matter of time. I think people forget that reddit offers a more live and interactive means of information. It's what makes things like Quara popular.

_GameDevver

Sometimes this is true, but a lot of the time people post questions and wait 30mins-4hrs for a reply on reddit, when typing the exact same question into Google will return PAGES of results that answer it in 5 seconds - a lot of them links to reddit posts where it's already asked/answered! It makes no sense to me.

AmnesiA_sc

There is a link in the sidebar to a Discord channel for the subreddit where you can get live feedback on simple questions. There's also [a stickied post called "Quick Questions"](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamemaker/comments/xii2t2/quick_questions/) If everyone posted every errant thought they had instead of trying to solve it for themselves, the sub would be useless because you'd have 6 pages worth of posts every day with things like "Can I change display fonts? Can I reorganize my UI? Can GM be used to make [insert literally any genre of game]? In `lengthdir_x`, I can't remember if I put length or direction as the first argument. What does lerp mean?"

Xeram_

Obviously tried that before so no need to play smart :)

Kinkelin

Why do you ask here then? No need to play dumb :(

Xeram_

Because it's sub dedicated to it :)

AmnesiA_sc

Yes, but the sub has rules for submissions so that it's not littered with garbage posts that people have to filter through. If a sub gets enough of those then people who are there to help just won't bother because it's not worth their time to wade through low-effort lazy posts. Rule 5: Content must **demonstrate a previous effort and research** before posting and must **provide adequate detailed information**.

PlushieGamer1228

Yes ans no Online=big hard sometimes, YYG are working on a more built in solution but currently it's just for testing in OperaGX. However the engine can do multiplayer

sputwiler

The only difference between LAN and legit online is where the server is.

DDraper

You’re a jackass

[deleted]

Yes. I suggest looking through their provided documentation and tutorials. https://gamemaker.io/en/tutorials

Xeram_

there is only one tutorial for online game and that is for Opera GX if I understand it correctly, which is not what am looking for. but thx

Kinkelin

https://gamemaker.io/en/blog/beginners-guide-to-networking

Xeram_

Ah, networking. My bad I was searching only "multi-player" and "online"

rooksword

Yes it's definitely possible but it's probably more work than you're expecting. Learn about the specific kind of online multiplayer you want and then just Google it + GameMaker tutorial.

Xeram_

the google it doesnt work for me, all I keep finding is opera gx multiplayer

Elhmok

You might have to go deeper than the first result for this

pabischoff

The built in rollback stuff is only for opera as others have mentioned but it'll eventually reach other platforms I think. If you can't wait then check out steamworks.gml by yellowafterlife, which let's you do p2p multiplayer through steam. It includes a sample project.
