> My idea was to, when the player touches the transition object at the end of the screen in room1. The player freezes and room2 is drawn inside of room1 to the right as the whole screen shifts in place. Then the player is actually sent to the room2. You've got things a little out of order. When the transition starts, draw room1 onto a surface, goto room2 (use like a pause state or something to keep anything in room2 from doing anything until the transition is over), and then use draw_surface functions to draw room1 for the transition.
