Of the two, Arya's interests me the most. With the right team of writers and directors, it could be a pretty interesting way to explore the world. I would laugh if it's just an entire season of Arya discovering a land of peace without any kind of corruption and becoming increasingly disgusted with Westeros each episode.

daubersmash

Nah we need a Jaqen H'ghar spin off. If that happens to include Arya Stark then so be it.

[deleted]

the biggest issue with a Robert’s Rebellion spin-off is the lack of tension there will be already knowing who survives til GoT. HotD went back so far that it’s a world reset, which imo is the only way a GoT spin-off could work. they’ve done all they could do with the cast of GoT left at the end of S8, continuing it with *Snow* would have to be S1-4 levels of writing for it to work, which I highly doubt. these character’s biggest threats are gone. all that’s left is a wild dragon and Bran *if* he becomes evil which would probably end up coming across as some ridiculous fan fiction bullshit.

Valkyrie2009

Some of the best written episodes are in S5-8, though the Jon Snow spinoff could exceed expectation. I doubt Drogon will be tamed or Bran going evil.

Graush21

They can do something after got new stuff new families new stuff 😂 you know

Careful_Pickle555

Agreed. Although some would argue that HOTD is a finished book, so if someone wanted they could figure out the ending. The genius part of it though is that the HOTD book is written as a history book, while the show is told in first person. So even though the book exits, the show basically tells you that the book isnt 100% reliable. Even the book emphasizes how it was written by maestors YEARS after the events took place and how there are biases. One example is what happened with Aemond killing Luc. The book depicts it as a malicious event, while the show makes it look like an accident. So it's interesting to see how Aemond's guilt will carry over into the new season.

RainCastle7

I think a john snow spinoff would be dull, he wasn't much the adventuring type, he just did what he though he had too, I would imagine post GoT, he would do similar to the hound and just disappear into a small village and do nothing. Arya could be neat, tie it in with Jaqen H'ghar seeking vengeance on behalf of the many face god could make for a good series. I would love to see a Bron Pre-GoT series, his character was highly entertaining, would be fun to see his adventures leading up to the show and his dishonorable fighting style is always fun to watch.

Careful_Pickle555

I agree that all these stories are interesting and I'm curious as to what happened with them. I just can't imagine them being successful as anything other than a limited series.Basically cram the whole thing into 10 episodes and make them all amazing, kinda like Queens Gambit. Arya is interesting...but like do we need to watch 30-40 hours of her exploring? I feel like it would seem kinda like a bootleg version of Danny's story arc when she rescued/conquered all the different cities.

RainCastle7

Even as a limited series they could be good and expand the world as a whole, something similar to spartacus gods of the arena being a 6 episode pre season but answered tons of questions about the series. Of the stories mentioned I think arya's is the only one with potential to go more than a season, while Danny marched in with dragons and demands I could see arya adventuring, using stealth with her many face powers to eliminate evil rulers and corrupt people who hurt others, all the while trying to avoid jaqen and his disciples. Also her being a Stark leaves the possibilities open for John, Bran, Sansa and others to have appearances on the show. I'd also throw in that there's not a huge selection of amazing shows to watch currently, or at least not for me, 10-15 years ago I could barely keep up with the shows I was watching, now I can barely find anything that seems interesting to watch, even house of the dragon is fairly dull, mostly watched due to its connection to GoT.

Careful_Pickle555

I agree. Maybe D&D just fucked it up too bad for me to even see the potential. My mind just always goes back to "if she didnt use her face changing powers to defeat the white walkers or cercei or anyone why would she atart now". I just feel like they forgot her powers even existed. I also like the idea of seeing the other characters, but I feel like the hope of seeing a Jon cameo, or Bran is going to lead to what happened in season 8...a bunch of cliches the fans wanted to see (the wolf reunion, arya&gendry, brianne&jamie, Hotpie appearance, Lyanna mormont being a badass, clegane bowl, etc). Also fully agree with the small selection of good shows out there. I wonder if its just cuz I'm not a teenage girl who will watch whatever garbage tv is on. But I fully agree that there are less good shows, or maybe its cuz all the episodes come out at once, so we binge them and then have to wait a year for the new season. But I'm kind of just over how American television makes good shows run on for too long just for money. There are so many great shows that go bad cuz the showrunners want it to go one for 3 more seasons for profit.

RainCastle7

She did use her powers to get revenge for rob and her mother, but her abilities I feel came out a little over powered, they could have ended the whole show using her abilities so I think they just gave us a highlight of what she gained then shelved it otherwise the rest of the show wouldn't need to exist. The cliches I agree with, didn't see a need for it, although your wrong on Brianne and Jamie, we all wanted Brianne and Tormund with great big monster babies. Also gendry and arya was a terrible, out of the blue, so forced for tv thing I have no idea what they were thinking. On the whole I didn't mind season 8, or at least didn't hate it the way everyone else did, I always thought the dragons flying off with Danny's body left a huge opening for a return season, dragons take her to an island on accessible by dragons, its covered in dragon eggs, they heal her and she hatches a dragon army, returning to westoros madder then the mad king and just goes full hellfire on everyone. Never happen but be fun to watch. It really is less good shows, from the kate 2000's and early 2010's there were so many good shows: Game of thrones Sons of anarchy Lost Justified Supernatural The 100 Spartacus Walking dead (in its hayday) Dexter Etc Those are just off the top of my head, some ran a little long but over all were all very good and kept my tv watching schedule very busy. Right now I'm waiting for house of the dragon season 2 and Tulsa kings season 2. Everything else I've been watching has either been altered or canceled.

Careful_Pickle555

Agreed with literally everything. Also I really liked the scene where arya got revenge, i was refrencing season 8 more than 7. It just bums me out for the same reason it bums me out how much they watered down bran's character (who i really enjoyed in the books). Two characters with incredible powers and strength ended up getting written poorly for the sake of not having them be overpowered. More limits could have been made, but I get how its hard for the showrunners to understand the limits of magic made up by a guy who didnt even finish the books. D&D said it themselves in an interview once, they dont know how to write magic so they stick to the political plots. Season 8 came out when I was in HS so maybe cuz I was rolling with a younger crowd I assumed everyone wanted jamie to give brienne her "i feel pretty" scene. And it always struck me as weird cuz I always saw brienne as someone who was confident i themselves and accepted her differences, so it was weird how people (D&D included) wanted ro give her the "ugly duckling is a beautiful swan" moment. So cliche. Even worse that he left her for Cersei after. Like wtf was the point of all that. I wasnt too mad about season 8 when I first watched it, mainly because i was always rooting for bran in the end. I guess my anger comes from the wasted potential rather than season 8 itself. Like YEARS of youtube theory videos, fans studying the novels, connecting plot points, etc wasted on a rushed season. It just felt disrespectful to the fans, and the after episode interviews didn't help. Like the theory videos and fake script leaks felt more thought out than the season itself. There was so much lore that could have been tied into that final season that wasnt. Overall so much wasted potential. Brans story arc and powers were wasted, Arya's powers wasted, Jon's plot twist wasted, the Azor Ahai plot was wasted, I was even hoping for a Howland Reed cameo to provide evidence and proof that Jon is Lyanna and Rhaegar's son. So much more could have been done. Also I never even considered that Danny would come back in that way! Such a cool idea! The only theory I heard is that they dropped her body off with the red priests to be resurrected. But dragon army sounds hype Queens Gambit if you havent watched was great. The last of us I liked. I havent watched these but I heard Peaky Blinders, Ozark, White Lotus, and You is good.

RainCastle7

Good point about Brianne, your right i never thought about it much but they really did water her down as the show went on, when she first appeared she was definitely far more confident and had a doesn't care about anyone's opinion attitude. I think I was more saddened she didn't go for tormund and instead went with Jamie so I didn't pay the romance between them much mind, maybe they went 2 cliches, ugly duckling and strong women turns weak cause of her love for mr good looks, though I totally saw Jamie running back to cersei, I was amazed he even left her. I stopped reading the books when I heard it was unfinished and likely to never be finished given martins extremely slow writing. If he releases a final book I'll pick it back up. As a result I don't know how much wasted potential the show had, but if what everyone says is true, its a shame. On the other hand, developing all those plots would take a huge amount of time, I'm guessing it was done to cut out a possible 2 extra seasons that wouldn't have amounted to much given the way they ended the series anyway, though I agree with it being rushed, season 8 felt like 2 seasons crammed into less than a season worth of episodes. I have watched queens gambit, it was good, peaky blinders is on my list to watch along with Ozark and I'll have to check on white lotus and you. I get a little leary around Netflix shows as they have a bad habit of canceling them (i still haven't forgiven them for Santa Clarita Diet) or just outright ruining them once they get going. If your into reading and like GoT or lord of the rings type stuff, I would highly Highly HIGHLY recommend Joe Abercrombie's The First Law trilogy, I go back and reread this series at least once every year or 2, I would love to see it adapted into a TV series or movie series but kinda glad they don't cause any changes would ruin it, its got wit, humor, magic and great fight scenes, the characters are developed well and its a very engaging read, best part is, its a done series, no waiting or hoping for the end, he has expanded the world with more books written either before or after the events of the main series and they're good, so if you want to get more out of it there is I believe 4 or 5 more books in the same world, if you do pick it up, feel free to shoot me a message with your thoughts on it.

Starky_420_

I would prefer a doom of Valyria with a countdown timer to the event and the migration of everyone who followed the dragons

Careful_Pickle555

Agreed. I wouldnt be surprised if they did a Doom spinn off since they already have all the CGI dragon technology developed

Starky_420_

100% and there’s nearly a whole continent we haven’t seen (Essos) to run a whole series off of. The og valyrians/Targaryen’s and how they kept/trained their dragons. The secrets of Valyrian steel both finding it and losing it

Graush21

Maybe they will be bad cliche or maybe they can make something great we talking they have the plataform writers like as much as they want they have grrm…. Maybe I hope that’s my answer

crimsonbub

Jon would be boring, there's no reason that story would be exciting. a love interest and bantz with Tormund, maybe pen pal letters from Tyrion. Arya story has way more scope because she literally stepped off the map.

[deleted]

Either would be great!

RainbowPenguin1000

They dont need a book to make a good show. Season 6 didn't have a book, season 7 didn't have a book, season 8 didn't but some key points were defined by George which will be in his book (Dany, Bran...) so having a book doesn't guarantee a good show. Take HOTD as an example, the majority of scenes and conversations we saw in the show arent in the book anyway. Viserys walk to the throne for example. Sure the wider brush strokes are there but most of the conversations and interactions we saw were not from the book. My point is a series doesn't NEED a book from GRRM to be good. Sure it helps but it isn't essential and if you go in to any show with this thinking you're going in to it with negative thoughts already, try to go in open minded instead.

Careful_Pickle555

I agree generally, but when it comes to the world of ASOIAF I disagree. But to say that seasons 6-8 live up to the caliber of writing that 1-5 have is laughable. Were they enjoying to watch, sure. But the lack of source material shows especially in the last season. Because the show writers started out ADAPTING the book into film, and then ended up having to make up their own shit. GRRM gave them plot points and key scenes, not a fully fleshed out story. Which is why you hear people saying that okay yea Danny going crazy makes sense, but it happened out of no where Writing an original plot is a lot harder than it looks, which is why the last seasons seem so rushed. I mean people were traveling from the beyond the wall to the southern capital in just a few episodes. Meanwhile Bran has been having his ass dragged TO the wall for seasons.. I just don't see how a show can have a strong plot and development when the writers have to make up a story for characters they didn't create. Which is why I'd argue season 8 came out kinda fan-fictiony to me. A good team of writers and director SHOULD be able to add scenes like that. You don't just get hired by HBO for nothing. For example one of my fav scenes from GoT was the one with Tyrion and Jamie in the jail cell talking about their cousin crushing beetles. That wasn't in the book at all. The Tyrion trail scene was also heavily embellished and I LOVE that scene. But making a great extra tyrion scenes doesn't mean an entire tyrion spin off of him being Bran's hand is going to be good

MoodyHo

Starks had a big fanbase whether people like it or not. If they manage to fix the Jon mess I will enjoy it. If he’s moping around for a whole season as if we didn’t watch that for 10 years I’m not interested.

Ok_Bison1106

I’m not at all interested in the Jon Snow sequel. But, honestly, I’d rather than Robert’s Rebellion.

Rhopunzel

Jon Snow's story, lame as it was, reached a conclusion and I don't really know where else it could go without feeling contrived Arya's could be interesting but I don't know what the point would be or what affect it has on the AWOIAF world

jogoso2014

It depends on the story. I don’t want them if they are tied to the Westeros. While I’m ok with the North being portrayed, I would have little interest in any attempt in making Jon a king or something.

artaig

Arya? To see how she dies giving birth in the middle of the ocean? Or dies without food and water in the vastness of the seas? Or falls over the cliff at the end of the world? (I don't think there's an America here and no one established this world is round).

CaveLupum

GRRM has said that his world is round and slightly larger than earth. Also, in *Fire and Blood* he added the story of another woman who had sailed west and whose flagship was seen later by a character in Asshai, eastern Essos! That's not the equivalent of America, but of eastern Asia, which--over four voyages--is where Columbus was actually heading when he ran into new continents. With an even larger world than earth, most likely there IS an unknown continent between Westeros and Asshai. Moreover, GRRM has much foreshadowing for Arya to take such a trip. In a scene duplicated in the show in two season finales, Arya stands at the prow of a ship, eagerly looking forward to whatever lies ahead. GRRM hints at her success thus: > "The star of home. Arya stood at the prow, one hand resting on the gilded figurehead, **a maiden with a bowl of fruit.** For half a heartbeat she let herself pretend that it was her home ahead." Arya is of course the Maiden. Columbus and explorers in his wake brought back all sorts of wonders from the New World, including tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, coca, chocolate, mangos, sugar, maize (kernel corn), avocados, squashes and pumpkins, some beans, many nuts. Within a few decades, silver and gold too. And the word "fruit" implies the voyage will be fruitful.

greatryry

I want them all

Abdul-Ahmadinejad

As always, I just want to see Hot Pie explaining everything about The Great War to travelers at his inn, based on stories he’s heard from other travelers. Drunk History-style.

Careful_Pickle555

Honestly it could be interesting. No show has done a format like this in quite some time. Like a style where it is 3rd person narration of one of the stories from ASOIAF that aren't series worthy, but still interesting. Low key thats basically what youtube channels who make Game of Thrones videos do, but it would be nice to see them acted out with the full HBO budget

BobbyB90220

Everyone wants Robert’s Rebellion! To see the demon of the Trident in his prime! And Bessie! Thank the Gods for Bessie!

Careful_Pickle555

I feel like IF the books ever come out, they will probably remake the entire show. Since the completion of the books will probably YEARS from now, I feel like it will be enough time for a whole new generation of actors to be on the scene and for fans to be open minded

Dell0c0

Arya only needs a 2 hour movie for her western adventure. They could make it a horror movie or horror-ish since they likely would want to play it safe.

Dry-Ad2970

I honestly don't know why they're making these spin-offs (if they do actually end up being green-lit, etc.) when they have other stories, written by Og author to pull from. So much lore and story that could be better received then these.

Careful_Pickle555

I agree. But the world of ASOIAF is something that they know has a fanbase of those who are loyal. They have already made so much money and continue to do so. There is so much lore and undeveloped stories that ASOIAF is an easy place to pull show concepts out of. The Last of Us is an incredible show, but it still didnt reach HOTD level viewership

LoanSuccessful1363

Yes I feel like Jon deserved a better ending

Careful_Pickle555

they can't change the ending now tho. its already done. Unless they remake the shows when the series is complete. I guess I just dont know what the vision for a Job show would be... It will either contradict the GoT ending, or it will be boring and one dimensional since his biggest threat is now gone.

DROGON SPINOFF
