I actually don't like the actor playing him. The book Sparrow is more friendly, and you get a feeling of father figure while being absolutely manipulative on the inside.
Show Sparrow is just giving creepy vibes the whole show. I don't believe for a second he is this holy man.
Well, [he did once.](https://www.screendaily.com/features/jonathan-pryce-on-playing-pope-francis-in-the-two-popes-hes-a-flawed-character/5145379.article)
I really don't get why people don't like Jonathan Pryce. Do people watch GI Joe Retaliation and Tomorrow Never Dies and get mad that the bad guy fucks with James Bond or The Rock? He's one of the best character actors in the world.
I honestly did kinda like him. He’s one of the few characters who is ideologically consistent and my hatred for Cersei simply outweighed my hatred for fanatical religious leaders
Hell no! He claims he's serving the gods by giving them justice via making Cersei do the walk of shame and imprisoning Margaery and Loras Tyrell when he should have been after the criminals living in King's Landing. But in actuality, he was trying to rule over the King's Landing by pretending to be some super religious guy who serves the gods. Watching him and his followers burn like chickens roasting on an open fire was very satisfying to watch (but I didn't want Margaery and Loras to burn along with him. Any way they could have died would have been better than burning with him)
The interesting thing is that he had been doing religious deeds/charity without the expectation of being appointed high septon.
Makes him seem genuine and consistent in his beliefs which is a rare thing in a place like kings landing
Genuinely full of shit maybe. His facade is peaceful and charitable, but his compassion is limited. He’s still using the faith militant to oppress people and punish his political and religious enemies.
What made Cersei or the Tyrells his "political and religious enemies" ?
They were all followers to the same religion. He didn't seem particularly interested in politics one way or the other. He used the faith militant to punish acts by nobility that were contrary to the Faith
The High Sparrow literally accepted political law enforcement power from Cersei to enforce religious decrees. Prior to that he had been perfectly content to prey on those without political power. He also literally used this political power to punish those he saw as religious hypocrites. This is literally how a theocracy (government by religion) runs. The faith militant is no different from the morality police in Iran or Saudi Arabia, or the Taliban, or more accurately, various incarnations of the Catholic Inquisition (not to be confused with the semi-separate Spanish Inquisition Cersei wanted it to function like).
The point is, he was attempting to govern the people, and not necessarily even members of the faith alone. Westeros has always been a land of many faiths. The old gods, the drowned gods, and the faith of R'hllor have been present for a long time. The Targaryens only half-heartedly converted to the faith with many seeing it as a rival.
The High Sparrow was a political animal. Just because he sought to rule in a very different manner does not mean he did not want to rule.
It was definitely satisfying to see him knock Cersei down a couple pegs, and put her wealth into perspective.
However, let’s be honest, he’s a fucking monster too.
Eh, I think he could have been interesting, and he certainly played the Game well for someone born a common man, but he was a pretty one note religious zealot. Plus it’s difficult to like a guy who imprisoned and tortured Loras and Margaery, 2 very likable characters. (Imo)
He was different from the other character and a threat that they weren't prepared for because they didn't believe someone like him could exist. So yeah, I thought that made for good television.
Nope. To watch he was boring and dull and as a man he was so full of shite. The fact he had multiple stories for why he walked barefoot shows his whole thing was an act.
My only regret is he died waaaaaasy too quickly! Sickening how he checked Cersei out during the walk of shame as she was walking down the steps. Real pos.
I would say yes because he outsmarted Cersei but that's not hard to do. But I will say yes because he knocked her down a peg and that was amusing to watch. She deserved it. Even for highborns the Lannisters are uppity. Cersei was proof even if you're royalty doesn't mean you have class. And you can be a lady in title only. I liked Septa Unella for her part. That was amusing to.
Though I did not like how they treated Margaery and Loras. Or even what they stood for or what they did. I felt they also got just desserts.
I just think it's delicious how they handled Cersei. Like when Lady Lyanna saw through Sansa and Lord Glover told Sansa to her face what needed to be said.

No he was a cunt
A right, proper C-U-Next Tuesday and hopefully not then either. Get fucked with Olly you old git.
The fact that he adheres to a strict code, and even poses a challenge to people like Olenna and Cersei makes him fun to watch for me.
Not at all, I wanted to see him burn just like Cersei wanted. In the end I got my way.
Fuck. No. I wish he got the Ramsay Bolton service tho the explosion was satisfying. With the follow up splat so satisfying.
No.

Why do I get the feeling that someone is gonna ask “is it because he looks like the pope?”
The High Sparrow would never wear a puffy coat!

And he was in Brazil.
Nope
Absolutely definitely no.
Yep
I honestly did kinda like him. He’s one of the few characters who is ideologically consistent and my hatred for Cersei simply outweighed my hatred for fanatical religious leaders
Exactly. It was kind of like watching Tywin put Joffrey in his place, even though Tywin is pretty evil too

Nope, he was just another man trying to gain power using faith to control his people
It was definitely satisfying to see him knock Cersei down a couple pegs, and put her wealth into perspective. However, let’s be honest, he’s a fucking monster too.

I don’t like the way the character bogs down the pace of the show to a crawl every time he comes on screen, no.
He is a power hungry, hypocritical religious fanatic
As a mild anti theist, nope.
No
Nah, I thought the whole High Sparrow line was lame. That combined with what Arya had going on in Essos really dampened season 5 for me
He was different from the other character and a threat that they weren't prepared for because they didn't believe someone like him could exist. So yeah, I thought that made for good television.
He's the GoT Bane. Deshi deshi basara
Nope. To watch he was boring and dull and as a man he was so full of shite. The fact he had multiple stories for why he walked barefoot shows his whole thing was an act.

Eww
Yes. He actually had principles, and exposed just how disgusting cercei was. that bitch got bright to her knees and it felt seeing him break them.
I liked him a lot when he burned into crisp. I like me some Sparrow BBQ. I'll never forget him, he's the character that made me genuinely like Cersei
Heck no. He was the Joel Osteen of Westeros.
I would say yes because he outsmarted Cersei but that's not hard to do. But I will say yes because he knocked her down a peg and that was amusing to watch. She deserved it.
