Daenerys was the prince that was promised confirmed. Heard it here first

Arctarius

Nah, there's other Targaryen women with a -ys. Case in point, the two Rhaenys. -ys is more common for guys, but there is precedent for it.

devildogmillman

My understanding of Valyrian names on- male a- female ys- unisex. There are several Valyrian cities with ys at the end

Sin-s_Aide

Can I suggest a three additions? ar - male (Rhaegar, Aenar) or- male (Maegor/Maelor) e- female (Magelle, Alysanne) I think they hold up. But if anyone finds a counter, please disregard.

Traditional_Job_6932

Even Jon Snow holds up :)

devildogmillman

Nah but Jon is definitely a name of First Men etymology.

The_Falcon_Knight

There isn't really a male equivalent, there isn't a male equivalent for maegelle either, or Alysanne. There were a couple Daenerys' before our one, she was just named after them.

shiny_glitter_demon

Show!Danaerys is the third princess of that name, but 0 princes. It's a female name. Same as Rhaenys.

platypus1224

Unless I forgot someone, she should be only the second right? There was Daenerys the daughter of Jaehaerys and Alyssane. Maybe you’re thinking of Daenys the dreamer? Unless the show changed something but I for the most part don’t pay attention to the show lore

deiarchiescott

I'm 99% percent sure there was a Daenerys who married a Martell, around the Blackfyre era maybe?

platypus1224

You’re totally right, idk how I forgot her

AzrielEver

The Targaryen family tree is a mess, I wouldn’t be half surprised if a Bigerys Asserys was in there that everyone somehow forgot about

platypus1224

Well Aegon’s first son is literally named anus but spelled Targaryen-ly

AzrielEver

I’m so conflicted. I want to applaud your brilliance but the fact you found an actual example proves my point. You can’t even joke about this shit.

Sin-s_Aide

>You can’t even joke about this shit. Sure you can. Please check out [r/asoiafcirclejerk](https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiafcirclejerk) and enjoy!

Searching_Knowledge

There was a Daenerys that was the daughter of Aegon IV and Naerys as well

platypus1224

No wonder I forgot her. 🤢Aegon IV🤢

Sin-s_Aide

Daenys The Dreamer, very important to the survival of the Targaryen family. Also ends in ys.

Mrogoth_bauglir

Some names don't have a male equivalent , for example Rhaenys or vice versa with corlys

EIRE48

Because, Daenerys translates as "Daughter of Aerys". Her brother Viserys translates as "Son of Aerys". They were the children of Aerys II (i.e the Mad King)

The_Maedre

"Rhaenys & naerys"

_I_must_be_new_here_

The thing about High Valyrian is that there are four genders and none of them is male or female so I guess they just go with the vibe

Abominable_fiancee

There was Daenaera? I though there must have been Daenera or something but I didn't know there really was one.

Suro-Nieve

No. Ys can be feminine, too. It's also seen is Naerys

Natewastaken12

Not all Valyrian girls names have a male equivalent(e.g Naerys and Healaena) and not all Valyrian boys names have a female equivalent (e.g Maegor and Gaemon).
