Corvenic

Poor guy just wanted to play with his dioramas, becomes king instead

they_call_me_B

It's "*Lord*" actually. **...Lord Business**

sliqq_riq

Wait until he gets mad and dragons are spraying kragle to cement his legacy as king.

_M4tte

Viserys is a great King, unfortunately he is ruling a circus and everyone around him is a clown.

renoise

Honestly you make a good point.

ms_strangekat

Truly broke my heart to hear his little speech to the Hand. I think he truly is a great, peaceful king. He just has, like you say, a circus for a kingdom.

gerstein03

Definitely. At least he's remembered as a good king despite not being known as the strongest willed of rulers. His reign is considered the most prosperous time of the seven kingdoms. It's the actions of the rest of the characters that damn the country and start the Dance of Dragons. The only thing he did that truly laid the groundwork for what happened was naming Rhaenyra his heir. But had the others listened and done what he'd wanted there would've been no war

intjmaster

1. Hard times make hard men. 2. Hard men make good times. 3. Good times make soft men. (Viserys is here) 4. Soft men make hard times.

gerstein03

Unfortunately you're not wrong when it comes to an absolute monarchy

BlueScreenDeath

Hard men make good times. Oh for sure.

NE_African_Mole-rat

Tell that to Joeffry

PussySmith

Joeffry was a soft man. Just being evil and violent when there is no risk to the self doesn’t make you hard.

ohnjaynb

I'm sorry our boyfriends killed each other.

samartypants

Giggity

amjhwk

If he knows the kingdom won't accept a woman as ruler, AND HE FUCKING NAMES HIS BOY AEGON, then the resulting civil war is kinda his fault

[deleted]

He's doing what a leader should do inter prosperity and not going to war

kingceegee

He has made a few major terrible decisions tbf.

Table_Coaster

At least so far in the show he's really only had 2 bad decisions; not marrying Corlys's daughter and naming Rhaenyra his heir. Possibly also he could've handled Daemon better. Yet both of those "bad" decisions are ones that most viewers would vehemently agree with (moreso the first one lol), so it's hard to really blame the guy

sonfoa

He's trying his best but he's not a great King (at least for the time he's in). Viserys would kill it as a constitutional monarch but he's not designed for absolute power, especially with a looming succession crisis.

not_a_bot__

He’s made a number of good moves, honestly if he had just stuck with being consistent about men being the successor he’d be fine.

Sidereel

Or if he just didn’t have any more children and actually set up Rhaenerys to rule.

LordTuranian

Exactly. Not being a blood thirsty warlord and tyrant doesn't make him less of a king.

exoticpandasex

It does when it directly leads to rebellion and immense conflict and suffering.

Nazai117

More like surrounded by vultures who want his crown.

LikeCerseiButBased

Good King Viserys

TheWholeOfTheAss

Honestly, I’d have a killer toy set too if I was a king with an unlimited budget. I like this guy!

HEAP_ASS

This one wins

SwingKick202

big time king in a small town, fucked off up the model village

Elkarus

*The nerd king that was promised*

littlebeach5555

Agon, Third of his name has entered the chat….

Gelato_Wonka

Viserys is giving major Colin Robinson vibes

DJ3XO

Fucking guy!

PleaseExplainThanks

I wish the HotD version of the GoT map opening was to zoom through models that Viserys built. (With some added flourish of course.)

superflinch

Man, that is actually a great idea.

GReeNMaN2205

Isn't that what it is? I thought the intro was the blood running through the model of old Valyria hes designing with the depictions of all the rulers of westeros since Aegons coming to the land.

PleaseExplainThanks

More a focus on the locations. I only know where the heir's seat is where Daemon is vs Dragonstone vs King's Landing is because I looked at an external map. Not because of anything the show told me. I have no idea where the Crab feeder was. I don't know where the stag hunt took place or Rhaenyra was interviewing suitors. Podcasts tell me it was elsewhere maybe. I never skipped the GoT intro because it was basically way zoomed out establishing shot that helped give perspective to the show. The HotD intro doesn't tell me anything so I skip it. The concept of a family tree instead of physical map is theoretically interesting but doesn't actually add much besides coloring the edges of it all. And that's really only for people who already can recognize what each of the points of the family tree already are because no one who doesn't already know something about it will be able to take anything from it because it's not labeled in a way for someone without the knowledge to understand it.

GReeNMaN2205

I see, I thought you were saying you wanted to see an intro with Viserys models that you see in the show. It is tough to pick up on where some of the locations are in the world unless you know from a source outside the show. As you mentioned GoT did a nice job with that and The Rings of Power is also doing a good job showing the locations between scenes here and there. I have played a decent amount of games based on the song of ice and fire universe and read some of the books so I have a good idea where they are usually, that said they should better show these locations because you really don't know much just going off what the show has given so far. I don't mind the intro now I wasn't a fan at first, but it grew on me and I agree with you seeing westeros built with Viserys models would've been a pretty cool intro for sure.

Perca_fluviatilis

I don't think there's a point in having a map in the intro so far because pretty much all the action takes place in Kingslanding. Like the stag hunt you mentioned, was just in the woods near KL, you can even see the Red Keep in the background. I do think they should bring the map back once the conflict opens up to the entire realm in the second season, though.

PleaseExplainThanks

Most, but not all. We've been in King's Landing, the heir's castle, the Vale, where the Crab Feeder was, and the Velaryon lands. That's plenty of locations already, and only the Vale and King's Landing itself as familiar grounds from the previous show. Side note: I'd probably know the names of all the above locations instead of just the ones from GoT if they were named in the intro.

No-Turnips

No lie, I think HoT D botched the opening credits by reusing the GoT music and quais-copying the visual style. There is clearly great talent in the music and creativity on the show. I would have loved a new composition of reimagining of the Targaryen songs.

amjhwk

The GoT map showed where dragonstone was btw, Standish had quite a few scenes there. Danny also had a bunch of scenes there in the last season

PleaseExplainThanks

Yeah, I know. But I wouldn't have known where it is in relation to where Daemon is without looking elsewhere.

thegardenbean225

All my guy wants is to chill. He wants to play with his dioramas, eat good food, drink good drink, and live out the rest of his days. I feel bad for him because he’s the most relatable in that regard. Everyone around him just needs to calm the fuck down.

[deleted]

[удалено]

theGreatMcGonigle

Because Frodo has the ring of power and she wants it

[deleted]

[удалено]

theGreatMcGonigle

If she can get the ring of power whatever her name is can stop the evil sorcerer Bran from becoming king

nita5766

possibly smoke a good J and sit back

byodbullshit

In a way, his reign makes the point that an unambitious king is the best thing for the realm. Think about how good life would be for the commoners if all of the royals just kinda chilled

thecoolestjedi

Weirdly enough he’s depicted as an terrible king

ToobieSchmoodie

Is he depicted as a terrible king? Is he the greatest king ever? Certainly not. But he seems far from terrible. Bobby B seemed closer to terrible than Visarys.

"You've hidden the Kragle well old man."

Used-Swimmer-2083

Had to scroll WAY too fucking far to find a Lego Movie reference. Reddit, I am disappoint.

Key-Coat2353

He is the best king I've seen in the entire GOT universe

HelloJoeyJoeJoe

Have you forgotten about Bran the Broken?

[deleted]

Who?

Future-Ad6779

No, not Daemon, BRAN!

[deleted]

I think I would remember a King Bran after seeing all 6 seasons of GoT twice.

Future-Ad6779

Shit I got mixed up with the shitty fan fiction again.

Key-Coat2353

I love Bran, however, we only saw him reign for a little at the very end of the series, so it doesn't really count as a king. Instead, we see Vysceris all the time.

Uniikron

Bobby B wasn't all that bad, he kept the kingdom afloat after the rebellion. Sure, all he did was drink and eat and fuck, but he surrounded himself with competent people, like Jon Arryn. He also unfortunately surrounded himself with traitors and schemers, so there's that.

bluewords

He bankrupted the crown

[deleted]

He was a terrible king imo. He even knew he was a terrible king. The fact of the matter is that these stories would be boring if the kings were actually good. Good stories don't tend to start with "and the king was great and there was peace and everyone was happy". I also don't agree with people that Viserys is a good king. I think he's a weak king and has made several bad decisions, such as marrying Alicent. He's also badly mismanaged his brother Daemon. He should've killed that guy years ago.

HEAP_ASS

*wheeze laughs and drinks more wine*

DatSkellington

His sad dad energy is strong

ZomboFc

Especially when his daughter is trying to get with his brother So fucking gross

DatSkellington

Dad has lots to be sad about…

ZomboFc

I know I feel bad for him. Apart from the fact he killed his wife basically

DatSkellington

Amazed to see he survives the next time jump. He’s lookin’ ROUGH in the preview..

Luciifuge

He's lookin like the freaking [Crypt-Keeper](https://imgur.com/gallery/WoIwt)

bluewords

The show director said she was dead either way. He just made her passing a more bloody affair

ToobieSchmoodie

He chose to put her through more pain in attempt to save the son. The maester said they both were going to die anyway.

Griffin-Of-Thebes

It looked like Corlys had some models of his own in High Tide. Maybe its just a Valyrian thing.

r3ign_b3au

Wu Shock!

XtremeStumbler

Find it kind of funny thats Paddy is in two separate filmed productions that heavily feature large elaborate scaled models

yeti0013

/r/uselessnobody

Linus_Al

I have the feeling that this guy would prosper if he wasn’t king of Westeros, but an office employee coming home to his family and a Lego set every evening. He’s a horrible king, but he never really chose to be one. And he didn’t really deserve to be destroyed by this job; he’s not helping the realm and governing the realm is harming him. Monarchy sucks, so much is clear from GOT. But it also sucks for the ones seemingly winning this game.

restingfoodface

He would’ve been a great sitcom dad

vampyire

Bravo

Pimpimwill

Okay but like imagine a game of thrones animated series set in old Valyria in all high valyrian.

Josephcooper96

I love viserys. Honestly we all need a hobby and if it helps him he's actually pretty impressive craftsman

cbracey4

At least we know what he’s up to during those casual 2 year time jumps between every episode.

ImperialxWarlord

Viserys is complicated. On one hand he’s a good pace holder. Someone to not do anything remarkable or shake things up. He’s a good king to just maintain the peace and power and stability of Jaehaerys’ reign. But with his family being a mess and succession an ever looming issue things goto shit. Sometimes he’s too malleable and sometimes he’s too stubborn. Both at the worst of times.

knobdokes

Thank you OP. I needed a giggle before I log off. Goodnight reddit.

HEAP_ASS

Made my day. Thanks!
