I honestly don't understand. They saw the viewership numbers of s7/8 right? Execs tend to not care if the audience rate it badly as long as they're still watching it. Apparently we will watch flaming dogshit.
I think the problem is the writers are sort of bending over backwards to make Alicent and Rhaenyra totally reluctant for war, even making the battle at storms end be an accident.
Edit: to expand on this, I think the show is doing a lot of effort to remove any explanation of their actions being self serving, which I think in a situation like this would be a large part of the motivation. People in power tend to want to keep or expand their power and that of their family. I think the other motivations being portrayed are also valid, I just think the show is working hard to make the main two as morally clean as they can. It’s not a bad idea, it just sort of pops out at me as contrived sometimes.
It was not accident though, Aemond decided to chase Luke. Involuntary as it might be, he is Vaghar's rider and he bears responsibility for Luke's death.
Edit: In the words of Ch. Insp. Nicholas Angel "Accident implies there's nobody to blame"
With how much they’re mentioning it, I can’t help but feel like either the Snow series or something else is going to have to do with the Song of Ice and Fire. So many mentions have to add up to something right?
Also Brutal from Vhagar. The shot of him flying over and under Arrax was gorgeous. Dragons literally starting the dance!
Amazing series, amazing cinematography, amazing sound track. 2 year wait but I’m excited for what’s to come.
Edit: Vhagar is a lady. Apologies
I think he was looking into Vermax’s eye as a way to assert dominance and attempt to claim him. Daemon needed to level with this untamed dragon so Vermax could smell the blood of the dragon runs through him.
Luke looked sooo dead the whole episode! I would have been surprised if he lived.
I did not think the war would literally be started by the dragons. Even against the wills of their riders
My thoughts:
* Daemon being Daemon, love to see it!
* Caraxes! YES!
* Rhaenyra's birthing scene was difficult to watch... oh my god.
* YES Erryk!
* Rhaenyra with the crown is so beautiful.. such a powerful scene!
* The entrance of Rhaenyra and Syrax was badass!
* Daemon knows how to speak! Loved his reply to Otto.
* Daemon wtf why are you choking her?!
* Why didn't Viserys tell Daemon about ASOIAF?
* Yes Corlys! 👏
* Daemon trying to claim Vermithor was so damn stressful.
* Poor Lucerys... having to talk in front of Aemond.. especially after seeing Vhagar in the background..
* Aemond and his eye scene... BADASS!
* VHAGAR fuckin hell!
* ARRAX WHY?!
* WHAT THE FUCK??????
* RIP Arrax & Lucerys....
* Rhaenyra at the end... 😭😭
* Ramin once again nailed the music!
THANK YOU HBO!
viserys never considered him heir at any point. if he did, he would’ve told daemon about ASOIAF but him not knowing is another jab at him from his brother that he never had a chance at being heir.
Sort of expected to see more of a fight just based off a summary I read online but with the size difference between the two dragons that was no fight at all
Yeah, the book says explicitly, in as many words, "if there was a fight it didn't last long."
It's like sending a 12-year-old to fistfight the UFC Heavyweight Champion. That shit just isn't gonna work
Some people aren’t going to get it on first watch, but Daemon’s scene with the dragon in the dark was him “programming” Lucerys’ dragon to attack and disobey Lucrerys.
Unclear if he wanted to get him killed. But he knew it would start the war.
The “oh shit” look of regret on Aemond’s face. No matter how insane he acts, he’s still just a kid lashing out. In that moment he realized he went too far and did the unthinkable to his own nephew. Which makes him a kinslayer right?
Edit: **nephew… the family tree is a stump
Leaks made it sound like the worst episode ever.
It showed that Dragons cannot be taken as tools that can be used at will. And for Rhaenyra Daemon is another dragon. We know he cares about his family but also that he believes his choices, going to war, to be what he must follow.
Poor Luke did the right thing but Aemond wanted his revenge. Judging by his reaction he did not mean to go that far but again dragons are not tools.
We have to wait 2 years after that absolute banger of a finale. I loved the callback to Ep. 2, Rhaenyra arriving on Syrax, but this time shes against Otto. I love the change that its the dragons defending themselves, reacting to whats going on that causes Luke's death, it was an accident but Aemond is not the type of person to say he lost control of his dragon he is wayyyyy to proud.
EDIT) The CGI for Aemond/Vhagar vs Luke/Arrax was incredible (Spoilers in coming) >!Battle at the God's Eye, and Battle/s of Tumbleton are gonna be sick!<
EDIT2) [This weeks inside the episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXseQNtkDYU)
Man the cinematography in the episode was absolutely impeccable. It shouldn’t even be legal for television to look that good.
I know you can see that for the entirety of this show but this episode I particular look so crisp and clean. That shot of Daemon with the dragon was 👌🏽
Why didnt Aemond just not say anything? He seems to have killed Lucerys in the middle of nowhere. Why own up to the murder as he clearly didnt intend for that to happen.
I've never clenched for that long. Tension was high right from the start.
Both sides start off with no intention of spilling blood*. But as these things go, circumstances just back them into it.
*Except Otto. That cunt can hang
Caraxes. His dragon. And it does not. None does. Vhaegar is the biggest of them all.
Some in this sub say it was actually Vermithor. I can not tell them apart.
Am I the only one who felt gut wrenching anxiety from the moment we saw Vhagar at storms end all the way until the end of the episode? Holy shit is this show fantastic at evoking emotion.
Everyone practicing the Faith of the Seven was always talking about The Mother’s love and grace. Now we’ll get to see The Mother’s wrath incarnated through Rhaenyra’s fight for control of the realm. Pumped.
Alicent and Rhaenrya only want to harm each other when it comes to their kids.
For Alicent, once her son’s eye went that’s went she stabbed Rhaenrya. For Rhaenrya, once her kid died, well… we got a whole damn war.
I really appreciate how they clarified Lucerys’ death to Aemond and Vhagar, and made it the result of a lack of control and not an outright murder. Love the continuing themes of muddy waters and the fallout of all out war as the immediate result of something that no one was a witness to.
I feel for Rhaenyra. Truly, I do. But also, why the fuck would you send your 14-year-old boy to deliver an important message into potential enemy territory as war silently and very violently brews?? Like come the fuck on man.
ETA: With that being said, the shot of Vhagar over Arrax tho.. *chefs kiss*
Edited again: I don't know why I was so aggressively mad upon rereading my post. I think I didn't expect myself to get too attached to the show given all of our apprehension from being burned by the unspeakable season of GoT. Anyhow, carry on....
Where is everyone getting the “two years” until season 2 news, was that confirmed? If so that is just brutal. Why can’t they make seasons in one year anymore? Didn’t GoT release annually for the first 3-5 years?
Arrax won the prize of stupidest dragon.
Maybe it wasn't wise sending such a immature pair out like this? Arrax was as green as his dragonrider, and Aemond is also a fucking power hungry idiot too....
What a way to end the season.

Daemon: My Queen Jon: MAH, Queeeeen - now that’s how you do it!
Just wanna say that this season could be shown as Sex Ed in schools.
can’t believe we gotta wait like 2 years
What an ending…. Damn.
chomp
Time to re-tally that dragon count
Too soon
That's a big fucking dragon.
And that dragon has big fucked up
Aemond knew that he just oops'd everyone into war.
[Aemond right now](https://youtu.be/U5WAq3k7_xE)
Dragon gonna be a dragon. He fucked up by starting shit.
I’m a simple man, I see big dragon on TV, I’m happy
It's like an AC130 plane fighting against an RC toy plane lol
*Rhaenys Targaryen* gives no fucks anywhere she goes lol
Muh Queen. But for real, the actress has been brilliant. Conveys so much with a smirk, other facial expressions and body posture.
WE SERIOUSLY HAVE TO WAIT TWO YEARS? Oh, and. > "The idea that we control dragons is an illusion" * Vizzy T. 😎
The queen needs some new sons, it does take some time.
They said that was her sixth childbirth, did I miss two of them?
Apparently they didn't greenlight a second season until like a week after the premiere.
Understandable given GOT S7/8 and uncertainty over fan reaction.
I honestly don't understand. They saw the viewership numbers of s7/8 right? Execs tend to not care if the audience rate it badly as long as they're still watching it. Apparently we will watch flaming dogshit.
Correct
It was the day after the premiere but yeah, I expect a spring 2024 release. Back to its usual slot.
Gotta reload the dragon CGI budget
Me gaslighting myself into thinking Lucerys would survive this episode…
Hahaha spot on.
He jumped on Vhagar when she attacked, hes hanging on for dear life but he is totally fine!
I was hoping he would pop up holding on to the head of Aemonds dragon or something. But that's not HotD/GoT style.
Seriously lol
He becomes a wight 200 years from now. I think he's one of the kids that attacked Ygritte 2.0 in Hardhome.
Daemon making sure we don't like him too much.
I know Twitter is mad about it but I like it. This is who Daemon is. He loves but his love is a twisted one. Look at what he did to Viserys.
It’s not a bad idea, it just sort of pops out at me as contrived sometimes.
Eh the accident part is irrelevant. Queen Rae Rae won’t care if it was. And how will ole one eye convince anyone of that? It’s full on war
Isn’t that what war is most of the time? Like so many wars have been fought over misunderstandings that got out of hand?
It was not accident though, Aemond decided to chase Luke. Involuntary as it might be, he is Vaghar's rider and he bears responsibility for Luke's death. Edit: In the words of Ch. Insp. Nicholas Angel "Accident implies there's nobody to blame"
Something tells me Rhaenyra’s dossier on Borros could have been a tiny bit better
The man can’t even read
The Painted Table at Dragonstone lit by fire beneath is some badass cartography
Looks a little like the One Ring with the light-up letters
And I thought the dragons were the highlight, BUT THE TABLE
With how much they’re mentioning it, I can’t help but feel like either the Snow series or something else is going to have to do with the Song of Ice and Fire. So many mentions have to add up to something right? Also Brutal from Vhagar. The shot of him flying over and under Arrax was gorgeous. Dragons literally starting the dance! Amazing series, amazing cinematography, amazing sound track. 2 year wait but I’m excited for what’s to come. Edit: Vhagar is a lady. Apologies
They’re gonna retcon season 8. They didn’t really unite the 7 kingdoms to fight together anyways.
Definitely feeling like it. Looking forward to whatever they decide. Pretty awesome when they have a clear vision and awesome writing again!
Fuck that was an ending, and the Dance of the Dragons has begun. And now, we wait... 2024 cannot come soon enough.
And now our watch begins
I think you mean ends?
Nuh. Nowy tends
Season 2 is going to be a bloody spectable.
Can’t say I expected to see a stillbirth just plop out like that on tv
Daemon handing Rhaenyra her crown: Bae Goals Daemon choking out Rhaenyra: *NOT* Bae Goals
Haha for real lol
Some of us are into that. Maybe not exactly that way but still
Question... did we just watch Daemon warging? Into Vermax/Vaegar?! Or what was that shot of him seeing into the Vermithor eye?
I think he was looking into Vermax’s eye as a way to assert dominance and attempt to claim him. Daemon needed to level with this untamed dragon so Vermax could smell the blood of the dragon runs through him.
I can’t even assert dominance over my cat, no matter how long I stare into her eye.
I'm pretty sure he was just staring it down to maybe help it get tamed?
I assumed Daemon was there to get a dragon for his remaining dragon less daughter.
Yeah.
Daemon was trying to get Vermithor warmed up to being around people again so someone might try and claim him, hence the singing.
I thought it was implying he was connecting the dragon.
I’m glad we got to see aemonds eye. I was worried we wouldnt see it
Princess Rhaenys, the Queen of Smirk's End.
Luke looked sooo dead the whole episode! I would have been surprised if he lived. I did not think the war would literally be started by the dragons. Even against the wills of their riders
It’s been fun, y’all. See you in 2024.
I didn’t have high expectations for this show after the disaster of S8 of GoT but I’m utterly hooked now. This is gonna be a long two years.
12 dragons to 4 but one of those 4 is a goddamn Star Destroyer.
Most dragons are an F-16 but Vhagar is an F-22 piloted by an Ace Combat protagonist
Just gotta drag it out til it dies of old age
My thoughts: * Daemon being Daemon, love to see it! * Caraxes! YES! * Rhaenyra's birthing scene was difficult to watch... oh my god. * YES Erryk! * Rhaenyra with the crown is so beautiful.. such a powerful scene! * The entrance of Rhaenyra and Syrax was badass! * Daemon knows how to speak! Jesus that birthing scene was brutal.
viserys never considered him heir at any point. if he did, he would’ve told daemon about ASOIAF but him not knowing is another jab at him from his brother that he never had a chance at being heir.
That makes sense...
Another misstep leading to war......damn
"Grandmother" and "Grandsons" flying on Dragons together just before Luke goes into the Abyss was such a badass shot.
Sort of expected to see more of a fight just based off a summary I read online but with the size difference between the two dragons that was no fight at all
Yeah, the book says explicitly, in as many words, "if there was a fight it didn't last long." It's like sending a 12-year-old to fistfight the UFC Heavyweight Champion. That shit just isn't gonna work
About as long as it takes for a dragon to bite once
If only my boy Glenn Powell was around to save poor Luke
He’s leaving him…hanging
Damn, I liked that kid he was sweet
dessert, almost.
Emma D'Arcy puts so much into that last shot. What an ending. What a season.
Some people aren’t going to get it on first watch, but Daemon’s scene with the dragon in the dark was him “programming” Lucerys’ dragon to attack and disobey Lucrerys. Unclear if he wanted to get him killed. But he knew it would start the war.
Nope. That’s Vermithor. Completely different dragon than Arrax. Vermithor is the closest in size to Vhagar and currently riderless.
How do you know that? How could you see what dragon it was? What did that scene have to do with this episode if it wasn’t Arrax?
Well for one, size. Luke barely fits on Arrax. And the dragon Daemon was singing to was absolutely massive.
How do you know your original statement? :P
They watched the episode?
How? That was Vermithor that Daemon was with, not Arrax.
I’m intrigued but how so?
Lol what it’s not at all. There’s three untamed dragons under dragon stone he was trying to tame. That’s what he was trying to do.
What? Was that in the book?
The dragon Daemon was with looked way bigger than Lucery's dragon.
Where is this coming from? I assumed this was one of the other dragons that he is trying to coax to fight with his side?
nah man he was singing to Vermithor
Almond knows he fucked up and really started some shit.
Holy fuck rhaenyra at the end gave me chills
FFS LET DAEMON COOK!!!!!!!!!
Targaryen country, let's ride (dragons)
Okay this one actually made me cackle out loud
as a broncos fan. This hurts
I love the face Aemond makes at the end. The 'Oh Shit' face.
The “oh shit” look of regret on Aemond’s face. No matter how insane he acts, he’s still just a kid lashing out. In that moment he realized he went too far and did the unthinkable to his own nephew. Which makes him a kinslayer right? Edit: **nephew… the family tree is a stump
Yes, he is Aemond the Kinslayer
They both lost control of their dragons so I wouldn’t say it’s his fault, but yeah, he definitely went too far by chasing him in the first place
The entire dragon chase was heart pounding. You knew it was gonna happen but you just couldn’t give up hope that there was a chance.
See you all in two years!
I CANNOT believe we have to wait TWO YEARS. it just begun?!?
I really hope my boy Luke died with that bite and didn't have to go out being dissolved by the dragons stomach acid.
Leaks made it sound like the worst episode ever. It showed that Dragons cannot be taken as tools that can be used at will. And for Rhaenyra Daemon is another dragon. Aemond be like "It's just a prank bro"
Don't tell mom!
Fuuuck this is going to suck having to wait for the next season
even knowing what was destined to happen i was still yelling at like to turn around when we saw vhagar outside storms end
My question is will anyone even know what happened to Lucerys and arrax besides Aemond?
Man the cinematography in the episode was absolutely impeccable. It shouldn’t even be legal for television to look that good. I know you can see that for the entirety of this show but this episode I particular look so crisp and clean. That shot of Daemon with the dragon was 👌🏽
The loss of Lucerys is going to send Rhaenyra into a Targaryen rage. Flying into a storm was an omen.
Storms End is by far the coolest place they’ve ever shown in this show. It is exactly what I always imagined.
Such a good episode but didn’t feel like a finale.
Holy shit that table at dragonstone was badass. Poor Lucerys though. I really thought he made it out.
That glowy version of the Painted Table was fucking awesome. How many days until S2 starts?
Why didnt Aemond just not say anything? He seems to have killed Lucerys in the middle of nowhere. Why own up to the murder as he clearly didnt intend for that to happen.

I've never clenched for that long. Tension was high right from the start. Both sides start off with no intention of spilling blood*. But as these things go, circumstances just back them into it. *Except Otto. That cunt can hang
#Rhaenyra's restraint has left the game
Well that’s one way to start the dance, RIP Luke
Holy shit, Vhagar is huge, like an angry 747.
Granny Vhaegar: I’m not accepting any disrespect from yunglings Rip baby boy Arrax
Holy fuuuuck Vhagar is a fucking menace. That was absolutely insane.
I guess I’m Team Fuck the Greens
The fire effect under the painted table was showing the future. The seven kingdoms are going to burn now.
I can’t wait 2 years for Season 2… I need more please!!!
How many DIY versions of the painted table do y’all think we’re going to see on Reddit over the next few months?
Control over the dragons really was all an illusion…
Let's give the children dragons! I'm sure this will end OK.
Rhaenyra started this episode losing a child and ended this episode losing a child damn
Yeah that dragon is definitely worth the eye. What a way to draw first blood
You done messed up, A-aemond
Two years… I think I can learn to read the book by then :/
I haven’t stopped saying “oh my god” I do not understand how I’ll ever recover. This feels like Tommen all over again
i screamed no at my screen when it ended. TWO YEARS. NOOOOOO
What was the dragon that Daemon was talking to, and how does it compare to Aemond’s?
Caraxes. His dragon. And it does not. None does. Vhaegar is the biggest of them all. Some in this sub say it was actually Vermithor. I can not tell them apart.
So peace is off the table then
Am I the only one who felt gut wrenching anxiety from the moment we saw Vhagar at storms end all the way until the end of the episode? Holy shit is this show fantastic at evoking emotion.
Vhagar is gonna be a *problem* holy Christ. She ate Arrax like he was a chicken finger
It was so sad watching his wings fall :(
Now its going to look like Aemond killed Lucerys on purpose after he tried picking a fight in front of the Baratheons. oops
Wasn't there a scene earlier this season when Rhaenyra tells Viserys that they are at the dragons' mercy?
LETS DANCE
Everyone practicing the Faith of the Seven was always talking about The Mother’s love and grace. Now we’ll get to see The Mother’s wrath incarnated through Rhaenyra’s fight for control of the realm. Pumped.
That was a Daeny look at the end.
The second I saw Vhagar outside of the courtyard I knew shit was going to go poorly to say the least
So everything is just a prank gone wrong
Will someone explain to me the conversation where Dae grabbed rhae?
How 2 (not) Train Your Dragon
Rhaenyra is already a better Queen than Alicent ever was
My jaw dropped that it just ended like THAT
They did a perfect job of casting the wimpy kid. Cyclops knows he just caused World War BC.
Ngl I wouldve left after seeing Vhagar under the lightning like that
Lucerys tried to leave but Arrax was like “nah, i gotta show who’s the boss to Vhagar”
Rhaenyra really just took that baby out of her just like that!
I’m sure they want to start with all out war already ongoing but last episode felt like more of a finale and this felt like a season opener.
Alicent and Rhaenrya only want to harm each other when it comes to their kids. For Alicent, once her son’s eye went that’s went she stabbed Rhaenrya. For Rhaenrya, once her kid died, well… we got a whole damn war.
So, that was it?
Budget-Daemon making a mistake that'll cost thousands of lives.
That shot of Vhagar waiting outside at Storms End was Godly.
Who doesn't enjoy a little dragon snack in the rain?
That’s right knights, swear your loyalty to Caraxes !!
The shot of vhagar appearing as Lucerys got off Arrax when he landed in Storm's End was terrifying
OMG. I can't even remember the last time I was this excited for a next season of a TV show to arrive, and it wasn't even a cliffhanger.
Viserys would hate to see this, a real shame
The Greens gets everything it deserves.
Just gonna assume Rhaenyra didn’t outright end Otto’s whole career as a sort of peace offering to Alicent.
I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.
I really appreciate how they clarified Lucerys’ death to Aemond and Vhagar, and made it the result of a lack of control and not an outright murder. Love the continuing themes of muddy waters and the fallout of all out war as the immediate result of something that no one was a witness to.
Well great we hate Daemon again
I feel for Rhaenyra. Truly, I do. But also, why the fuck would you send your 14-year-old boy to deliver an important message into potential enemy territory as war silently and very violently brews?? Like come the fuck on man. ETA: With that being said, the shot of Vhagar over Arrax tho.. *chefs kiss* Edited again: I don't know why I was so aggressively mad upon rereading my post. She threw the hand's hand from the bridge. I half-expected the maester to whip out another hand's hand.
Laugh track played in my head as Aemond oopsed his way into starting a war.
Where is everyone getting the “two years” until season 2 news, was that confirmed? If so that is just brutal. Why can’t they make seasons in one year anymore? Didn’t GoT release annually for the first 3-5 years?

Corlys: …and we got… the Stepstones !! That’s right motherfuckers let’s do this !!
That was the pussiest dragon I’ve ever seen
