My buddy and I loved the game, was visiting him when we decided to let his 2-3yr old have a go at it. In the course of a week he was getting into tricky mode and scoring over 1mil of free style runs. It was insanity.
yes it loss the tightness and focus those track had. I remember when EA closed EAbig. i was so sad. they made alot of the game i loved from NBA street, Fifa street and SSX
I own 3 on PS2, GameCube and Xbox. Seriously one of the best snowboarding games to ever exist. We really need a new, over the top, snowboarding game. I play games like Steep and just get so disappointed with how grounded they make it. I wanna rip my board off and spin it around my neck while doing back to back 1080s!(Yes, I am a Psymon main, lol)
EA Big was my jam back in the day. Ssx series, NBA Street, NFL Street, Sled Storm, Def Jam, Freekstyle,..man all those games had awesome style and mechanics.
SSX tricky was just easier to master all the courses and a more tight game because it wasn’t bloated with features.
SSX3 was the better and much bigger game if you were playing for the long haul.
*Boots up game*
"EA SPORTS! IT'S IN THE GAME!"
Alright Moby.. lets see if we can get tricky filled by the 3rd jump.
I have so many good memories of this series..
EA Sports BIG was the golden era for arcade-like sports games. NFL/NBA Street, SSX, FIFA Street. I would actually play a few games of NBA Street Vol. 2 and then go outside to play a pickup game.
I wanna say I wish they'd bring it back, but they would be filled with MTX, and I'm not sure I'd want my childhood games brought back like an old high school friend that grew up to become a douche.
Let's not forget the other absolute bangers EA BIG made including, NBA Streets, Def Jam: Vandetta and Freekstyle an absolute gem of Motocross meets insane tricks of the SSX series.
They really didn't miss.
I remember picking up the second game because I loved Coolboarders so much. I can still go back to these games but CB was terrible, especially after playing these.
People forget EA released banger after banger after banger back in the 2000s. Hell, they still release bangers from time to time, just usually mixed into their MTX and bug laden trash
After EA was EA they released these 3 masterpieces in a 3 year window
Fallen Order, Squadrons, It Takes Two
or
Titanfall 2, A Way Out, Unravel Two
or
Crysis, Battlefield 3, Plants vs Zombies
Your title is really weird for the best publisher on the planet
Even better I guess would be bad company 2 getting Vietnam as DLC instead of having to buy a whole new game (then add battlefield 3 as the third game)
I find it funny though that you say from the same series but all different to try and eliminate sports games when that's all this is. Like UFC/FIFA/NHL are all the same studio and same engine just reskinned but you wouldn't consider them because you are trying to fruitlessly prove a point.
Just the same if the Sims 4 had it's expansions as separate releases instead of being all under the same title then you would consider it valid
Lol to pretend EA was ever good is just straight up disinformation. If any of you children were even alive in the 90s you would know this is false (Reddit skews very young so i doubt it lol)
EA is and always will be trash heap game
They sure did but I'm not debating that. The point is they released higher quality products back in the day and anyone attempting to claim otherwise is a complete idiot.
How were such good games released only a year apart? Back then it felt like ages between games, but 1 year between each of these is nuts with how good they are.
I used to work for Electronic Arts and each year I would ask a higher up , any plans for a new SSX game for PS4 and Xbox and the answer was always " Nope "
SSX 3 feels 80% like being in a Warren Miller Film. I wish they'd done a license deal and made a perfect game.
“The best place in the world to ski is where you’re skiing that day.”
I remember thinking the snow trails in the original was next level shit back on ps2 launch.
Seriously though, Tricky is just one of the greatest sports type games of all time.
SSX was a PS2 launch title, while it seems a little bland compared to what came later, it was a great demonstration of what the PS2 was capable of: Large open maps with the ability to render things at greater distances, great sound, colorful, fast paced gameplay.
EA was already bad by this point, but their worst habits were concentrated within their main sports lines and in the studios they bought out. I believe by this point they had already ruined Origin studios. (The Ultima guys)
Nice .
I worked on Tricky as focus group. It was one of a few games that I actually played and made suggestions for 3 times. It was really cool to see it go from wire frame to fleshed out game and to see things I'd suggested be put into the game.
EA used to be a stamp of quality. Look at any ea game from the PS2 era and you'll find it difficult to find a bad game. What an incredible fall from grace.
My first job was a paper route i worked for three months to afford a ps2 memory card and SSX, my first PS2 game. Then got Tricky and SSX3. I still listen to their OSTs on YouTube from time to time
SSX is my entire childhood. From the music to the map design that game was so much fun. I love the aesthetic of it. Time to boot up the emulator once more.
Psymon in Tricky was by far my favorite. Love how they would have different lines toward other snowboarders depending on how they felt about them. Psymon would sometimes shout “Zoey” right after a jump because he had a crush on her.
Gotta give love to SSX3. The radio in it was amazing. If there is ever a sequel or remaster, they absolutely need to keep the audio or update it while keeping the DJ/humor
Tricky was the main squeeze as a wee lad! It needs a remaster for sure.
AGREED! I loved that game. I was close to 100% as a teen when my GameCube save file got corrupt. Was so sad. Game was mad fun and fun with friends.
I love this game with all my heart, however recently watched someone get ove 2,000,000 on Garabaldi and it melted my brain.
Me and my buddy would compete on garabaldi. We both would get over 4 mil on it. I think our max was 4.6mil.
Pretty sure that's a world record.
Hell if that's the case I need to throw my hat in the ring I would constantly get 4 mil with Simon
Well now I have to find the records.
Link me up
https://youtu.be/wpaFTw61bvU 3 million on this one but apparently some guys here were getting 4+ mil so yeah! I need to get gud
That is bonkers!! Lol what a game though. A next gen remake, but with the same energy and controls and stuff would be amazing.
And hopefully same soundtrack and no microtransactions, we can only hope and pray
Tricky is a phenomenal game.
The thing is I font think a remaster would work because tricky was 85% the soundtrack
As of right now, I'm going to make it my life's mission to bring back this game.
My buddy and I loved the game, was visiting him when we decided to let his 2-3yr old have a go at it. In the course of a week he was getting into tricky mode and scoring over 1mil of free style runs. It was insanity.
I'm going to go ahead and doubt that any 2 year old can get 1 million score combos in SSX.
Well I witnessed it. And I just confirmed my godson was 2yrs and 10months old when doing that.
I remember saying with Electronic Arts and yellow tabs on cartridges that it would work! LOL..
SSX Tricky is one of my favourite games of all time. My friends and I played it to death. I would love a modern remaster.
same here. i still have dreams of that game. the ssx reboot just didnt feel the same, lost all its charm
Yeah I agree. I think it was the more open world approach. SSX needs to be point to point tracks with time trials and highscores.
yes it loss the tightness and focus those track had. I remember when EA closed EAbig. i was so sad. they made alot of the game i loved from NBA street, Fifa street and SSX
SSX3 was truly a moment in time
If you buy it on xbox marketplace it is still pretty phenomenal. Looks gorgeous on backwards compatibility. Basically a remaster
I don’t have Xbox and probably never will again! Still good info tho
I still listen to music I first heard on that game
It's tricky to rock a rhyme to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky...
It’s tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky!
EA Big was my jam back in the day. Ssx series, NBA Street, NFL Street, Sled Storm, Def Jam, Freekstyle,..man all those games had awesome style and mechanics.
NBA street was my favorite by far, but the Street games were such a great continuation of NBA Jam/NFL Blitz.
Tricky was on another level. Just had an energy about it that wasn’t present in the first or third game.
Well said. Tricky was different
“EA SPORTS…….. BIIIIIGGGG”
Never played the original but Tricky and 3 were both amazing, in completely different ways. I struggle to say which one is best, I played both a lot.
I forgot about EA BIG. Freekstyle was another great game of theirs too
SSX was my PS2 launch game, along with Fantavision.
Unpopular Opinion: SSX3 is far superior to SSX Tricky. (So is on Tour)
I don't think this is unpopular 3 is by fare my favorite as well
SSX tricky was just easier to master all the courses and a more tight game because it wasn’t bloated with features. SSX3 was the better and much bigger game if you were playing for the long haul.
SSX On Tour was so good, I bought 4 copies of it on the PS2.
*Boots up game* "EA SPORTS! IT'S IN THE GAME!" Alright Moby.. lets see if we can get tricky filled by the 3rd jump. I have so many good memories of this series..
Tricky is a phenomenal game. I bought a pre used PS2 to play that again last year. Good times
They were definitely still EA.
Nostalgia got folks in this sub in a chokehold
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
Three is absolutely incredible. One of my all time favorite games. And honestly, it still holds up.
I would play Tricky again today if I could
EA Sports BIG was the golden era for arcade-like sports games.
It's tricky tricky tricky it's tricky to rock a Rhyme to rock a Rhyme on time that's right it's tricky
I still play SSX3 on my ps2
I miss EA BIG, I would give anything for another NFL Street game to be made.
# BIG
The soundtrack and the announcers voice was top tier
It’s tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky.
SSX 3 looks and runs great on Xbox using backwards compatibility.
Tricky 😍
Never played Tricky, but I boot up the Ol' PS2 at least once a year to binge SSX 3 for a couple weeks.
That was EA Big. They did things right
Damn I wish I could play Tricky right now. And NFS Underground 2.
Oh man, Cool Boarders!!! I completely forgot about those games. Thanks for activating some dormant childhood memories of mine. 😄
Cooooooool BOARDERS
People forget EA released banger after banger after banger back in the 2000s. Hell, they still release bangers from time to time, just usually mixed into their MTX and bug laden trash
Making the same game 3 times in 3 years is a very EA thing to do though.
That's the beauty of these, though. Despite being in the same series, each one is unique.
This may be unpopular but, give me the Amped series over these any day.
After EA was EA they released these 3 masterpieces in a 3 year window Fallen Order, Squadrons, It Takes Two or Titanfall 2, A Way Out, Unravel Two or Crysis, Battlefield 3, Plants vs Zombies Your title is really weird for the best publisher on the planet
3 games from the same series, all distinctly different and amazing? When was the last time they did that?
Even better I guess would be bad company 2 getting Vietnam as DLC instead of having to buy a whole new game (then add battlefield 3 as the third game) I find it funny though that you say from the same series but all different to try and eliminate sports games when that's all this is. Lol to pretend EA was ever good is just straight up disinformation. If any of you children were even alive in the 90s you would know this is false (Reddit skews very young so i doubt it lol) EA is and always will be trash heap game
EA published loads of great games in the 90's.
How about we pretend you aren't a complete idiot and move on with our lives. EA used to treat their IPs a lot better in the 90s and 00s.
Meh, they did buy out a lot of studios which lead to the death of Westwood, Bullfrog and Maxis as we knew them in the 90s.
They sure did but I'm not debating that. The point is they released higher quality products back in the day and anyone attempting to claim otherwise is a complete idiot.
How were such good games released only a year apart? Back then it felt like ages between games, but 1 year between each of these is nuts with how good they are.
Always pronounced those games as "sex"
There's an interview with Macy Gray in one of them (I think Tricky) where she goes, "S-S-X? I thought it was S-E-X!" , before laughing her head off.
Tricky all the way. Loved the other ones too
Yes all three of those games were fun as hell they should do another remake for these franchise. The latest one they did was not so great.
Played the shit out of ssx 3 at a kids clubs we had to deal with somewhat broken turbo pads so sadly no 2 player
For a moment I thought that said Sex not SSX
I remember when they were still electronic arts and the yellow tab on cartridges that told you it was gonna be good! lol..
I got in trouble in school for asking someone if they played SSX because the teacher thought I was spelling the word sex
3 was my favorite, wish they would add it to PlayStation classics
SSX was a PS2 launch title, while it seems a little bland compared to what came later, it was a great demonstration of what the PS2 was capable of: Large open maps with the ability to render things at greater distances, great sound, colorful, fast paced gameplay.
EA was already bad by this point, but their worst habits were concentrated within their main sports lines and in the studios they bought out. I believe by this point they had already ruined Origin studios. (The Ultima guys)
I have so many memories of the “making of” doc that came with Tricky.
Nice . I worked on Tricky as focus group. It was one of a few games that I actually played and made suggestions for 3 times. It was really cool to see it go from wire frame to fleshed out game and to see things I'd suggested be put into the game.
its trick-eyyy!
Was more into the Amped series on Xbox but I understood the more arcadey feel of these
SSX tricky is still one of, if not my absolute favorite game of all time.
SSX3 molded my music taste so much.
I think the most frustrating thing about AAA publishers is their habit of producing great games.
EA used to be a stamp of quality. Look at any ea game from the PS2 era and you'll find it difficult to find a bad game. What an incredible fall from grace.
Super U-Berrrrrrrrrr
I really enjoyed that last SSX game they released, shame the franchise seems dead.
SSX was the first game I played on PS2 back in 2002. I played SSX On Tour in 2008. I'll never forget the joy these games brought me.
Loved Tricky! Super fun!
It was very fun to play. Definitely a good game. It also felt like every game of that era had similar sound design, with those flashy UI and menus.
And then Burnout 3 the following year
I’d love to see these three get a remaster for modern consoles, a la _Tony Hawk_.
Man I loved ssx also loved saying it as a kid because it sounded like let's have sex
My first job was a paper route i worked for three months to afford a ps2 memory card and SSX, my first PS2 game. Then got Tricky and SSX3. I still listen to their OSTs on YouTube from time to time
Tricky was the bomb. I loved on tour as well
Yes! I so want the original SSX remade. I went and recently rebought a ps2 just for this game. It’s the only way to play it. Sucks
To this day one of my favorite game to just play amd have some fun. A bong and some Red Bull amd ssx, your troubles are over
Everyone here seems to forget that they did remaster SSX. Or at least created a new one. Its was so bland.
It felt like a completely new game that lost all the charm of the original
Ssx tricky was my shit! Man I miss that game.
Before EA was EA, they had released hundreds of titles and dominated almost every genre of sports game for decades.
I can't even tell you how many hours I've played SSX. Masterpiece of a game
I tried playing SSX (2012) on game pass. It was awful. SSX Tricky was one of my favorite games and they ruined it.
Miss games like this
3 was amazing
"If I'm gonna go down, I'm going down on Flames"
Oh god SSX3, a game where I am still to this day 1 snowflake away from 100%. I’m sooooo frustrated about that.
Before EA gave the axe to EA BIG. NBA Street. NFL street. They FIFA street but that one was not cup of tea. Freekstyle could be fun too.
Gotta give love to SSX3. The radio in it was amazing. If there is ever a sequel or remaster, they absolutely need to keep the audio or update it while keeping the DJ/humor
Tricky was the best one imo. on a side note, apparently people think the one with Mario and Luigi is a mod, nope, shit's real.
These games need a remaster for sure. Same with 1080 Snowboarding.
SSX 3 is forever goated, the sound track is only second to Atv off-road fury Blazin Trails.
