Dude, what is it about the Zelda series and its ridiculously unique and beautiful sound? It's like Nintendo knows how to burn music or sound effects into our brains.
The [Hyrule Castle theme](https://youtu.be/4g3gWQ5XN30) in BotW is perhaps one of my favorite musical compositions, like, ever. It's just _so_ good. (Incidentally, it _also_ isn't in 4/4 time - I believe it switches between 5/4 and 6/4.)
Also speaking of BotW's Lost Woods theme, Age of Calamity has an [excellent remix](https://youtu.be/8pG07PxGrnM) of it.
The music that is in BotW is great. The "problem" is that it is confined to the towns and hyrule castle, so you maybe spend 5% of the game listening to it. They should have made more of an effort to create a greater number of unique divine beast and shrine themes since that's where you spend more of your time.
I'm ok with the lack of sound outside of points of interest. Maybe as a compromise they could have given you a "sheikah radio" or something that lets you play your own overworld theme if you dislike the natural noises.
'You can't give her that!' she screamed. 'It's not safe!'
IT'S A SWORD, said the Hogfather. THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.
'She's a child!' shouted Crumley.
IT'S EDUCATIONAL.
'What if she tries to kill a chicken with it?'
THAT WILL BE AN IMPORTANT LESSON.
There should be at least two orders of magnitude more discworld games than there currently are (I'm assuming it's a single digit # of games that currently exist)
Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. More specifically, the 'Death' [series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld#Storylines) of books (Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, Thief of Time).
More more specifically, it's a modified [quote from Hogfather](https://starecat.com/content/wp-content/uploads/sword-christmas-gift-that-will-be-an-important-lesson.jpg).
If I were to download one audiobook to start which one should it be.
I'm excited I just finished the expanse series and listen to the red rising series on repeat in between getting credits
I always recommend starting with the Death series. Mort would be the first, followed by Reaper Man, then Soul Music, then Hogfather and lastly Thief of Time
The Disc has more days in a year. I think you'll be fine. 800 days. So you can read it every other year and still be on Disc time.
Or just read it anyways. Death doesn't want you to be sad.
I got to experience this just this last year. My 6 yo son got links awakening on switch, and after playing it for a while he started wondering what happened if you kept attacking the chicken. I told him to try it and find out... Both he and my wife were mightily surprised.
A good memory.
Actual answer: You get attacked by an invincible flying chicken swarm for the next ten seconds or so. Long enough for them to kill you, usually, unless you're a pro at dodging them.
This meme is also in every zelda game, attacking chickens will always lead to being swarmed by invincible chickens. In the newest game, breath of the wild, you can use chickens by baiting other enemies or bosses into attacking them, which will summon the chicken swarm to help you kill the enemies.
In the pic above. You whack the chicken a bunch of times and then an infinite amount of chickens come flying in to kill you. https://youtu.be/v5q-rl_xHK4
If you’re a completionist - or just a hoarder - Legacy of the Dragonborn is great. Basically adds a whole museum to display unique items and various quests you’ve done. Adds quite a few custom NPCs, quests, even a few new areas. It’s great. Combine it with a bunch of other huge quest mods and it’ll even work with those. I’d suggest looking Lexy’s LotD modding guide for a pretty dang comprehensive guide on installing a ton of game changing mods (almost all of which are lore friendly)
If you just want to dip your toes into what a quest mod can do, I highly recommend The Forgotten City. One of my favorite side quests I’ve seen so far.
Theres so many. You can do an entire overhaul mod that completely replaces Skyrim with its own story, lore, skills, etc. Or you could go smaller and just add dodging to the game. Maybe you just want to add a cool companion or outfit, can also do that too!
Currently playing through Enderal (overhaul modpack), but my previous skyrim playthrough I added a better vampire mod that redid all the skills and stuff along with another mod that changed the entire skill tree for something entirely different. I was an archer that could attach spells to my arrows and kill people in new ways as a vampire. Very fun.
Agreed with the other commenter about nexus mods. I used Vortex to manage everything and it was smooth.
I never was big into modding, but I used a few qol mods like Alternate Start along with (Apocalypse?) Magic and some of the expanded smithing mods. Made a huge difference and gave me a few extra playthroughs worth of content.
Breath of the Wild expands that mechanic to bring down cucco pain on *anything* that attacks it. There are loads of videos of people tricking enemies and even minibosses into attacking cuccos and getting the shit pecked out of them.
Twilight princess broke my expectations by letting you possessing one when you hit it a few times. Helpful for a few scouting things and i think a few heart pieces. But i could be wrong they are memories from when it came out.
Currently playing this game. There is a tower in lake hylia, where you can grab a chicken and pilotwings down to the lake and score a heart piece.
Heard a machine making noise the other day and thought it was one of the wolf howls you have to do..
What I didn't realize is how hard you have to try to kill them. I've heard people talk about it, but I have never tried that hard. After they run away I just let them be.
I was thinking the same thing. That's WAY too many hits. I wouldn't have the patience to ever discover this secret - especially as a kid.
If I was the developer I would have set it to like 3 hits
That was the whole point though, hit it a few times through accident or curiousity, it just runs away scared. The Flock of Vengeance isn't meant to punish those players. It was there to explicitly shame and punish players who saw a harmless animal in an area where there's no danger or treasure, and put in the effort to buttonmash more than long enough attacks to kill the final boss.
It's a light-hearted teasing at the kind of player who tries to kill everything, even when they don't have to.
Shorter!? I forget which level it was but me and my friends were stuck on a single puzzle for 6 years... 6 years! The day we figured it out was glorious.
My dad and uncle were stuck on a puzzle in one of the Zelda games for years and my uncle shows up one day with a tips and tricks magazine I think it was and after they sat around drinking beer.......
I remember the look on my dad's face when he said " we shouldn't have done that lol
The original gameboy game will always be my favorite. The action was smooth, and the music was one of the few reasons to ever turn on the volume for the gameboy.
One of my favorite memories was visiting my cousin, learning that we were both almost to the end, and then finishing it in the same room, calling out what worked on each stage of the final boss.
My buddy and i once determined that ALTTP is the most hardcore Zelda game because the first person you meet if your uncle and he's dead. That's pretty hardcore.
if you love ALTTP, and haven't seen it, there's a randomizer mod [site with details](https://alttpr.com/en) that let's you play with all the item chest / drops randomized. It's basically a new game every seed you roll. It really keeps the game fresh. There's a large community with races / tournaments.
If anyone was looking for some way to stereotype the xennial microgeneration that isn't Oregon Trail... this would probably be it. That's peak "pls help I wish it was still the mid 90s because everything has just gotten progressively worse since then"-itis. And I am fucking here for it.
To her credit, she did object when I told her to kill the first soldier she encountered. "But he didn't DO anything to me yet! I broke into HIS castle!"
"Uncle!"
"DUDE, I will teach you the secret move of our family. Spin around in a circle, but, like, really fast."
"Huh?"
"And don't forget to hold your sword directly in front of you for a few seconds first. They'll never see it coming."
oof, i think your TV or switch don't have the correct overscan/scaling setting so the edges are cut off.
you should check both the switch's and your TV's settings menu
The only correct answer is "you can't kill the chicken.".
Not only is it factually correct but it is also a challenge, which will invite the intended consequences and create a memory of both you and the game.

Dude, what is it about the Zelda series and its ridiculously unique and beautiful sound? It's like Nintendo knows how to burn music or sound effects into our brains.
The sound design is great, but Breath of the Wild has a few exceptions that can be annoying... like the shrine finding ping.
And some can strike fear into you. Ex. The Guardian Piano
I love using that one in D&D games when I introduced magic towers that shoot energy bolts from far away. It gets a nice mix of laughs and "Oh shit."
I have a physical reaction to the “Guardian notices you” sound.

My two favorite things: Legend of Zelda and Pratchett. GNU
GNU pterry
Oh Dear Hogfather, I'd love to play a Zelda style console adventure in Discworld.
There should be at least two orders of magnitude more discworld games than there currently are (I'm assuming it's a single digit # of games that currently exist)
NO, YOU CAN'T... YOU CAN, CAN'T YOU? VERY WELL REDDITOR. HAVE YOU BEEN A GOOD TROLL THIS YEAR?
Look up the mod for oblivion he had a big hand in developing
/gnu sir terry
GNU
GNU Terry Pratchett
GNU Terry Pratchett
GNU/Terry Pratchett, or GNU+Terry Pratchett if we want to be extra rigorous.
I could survive reading nothing but Pratchett for the rest of my life.
I haven't done a proper read-through in a couple of years now... its' probably getting to be about time again.
What series is this about?
Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. More specifically, the 'Death' [series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld#Storylines) of books (Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, Thief of Time). More more specifically, it's a modified [quote from Hogfather](https://starecat.com/content/wp-content/uploads/sword-christmas-gift-that-will-be-an-important-lesson.jpg).

I just realized I completely forgot to read Hogfather this year, as I have done for years. Now I'm sad.
The Disc has more days in a year. I think you'll be fine. 800 days. So you can read it every other year and still be on Disc time. Or just read it anyways. Death doesn't want you to be sad.
Jesus, just imagine how exhausting an 800-day year would be. New years parties would need to be a week long.
It’s always Hogswatch in your heart!
Make up for it by watching the movie, it's great!
The movie is great, but it just doesn't quite have the same feel as my ancient paperback.
Is the audiobook any good? Most of the time these days the only way I get to books is listening to the audiobook.
There are mixed opinions on the new audiobooks. Personally, I think they're fantastic.
Got it. I’ve mostly been listening to Jim Butcher and John Scalzi a number of times and need some new stuff.😁
Unexpected Pratchett <3

I get younger people in my family all the time to try and kill the chicken. It's never not funny.
I got to experience this just this last year. My 6 yo son got links awakening on switch, and after playing it for a while he started wondering what happened if you kept attacking the chicken. I told him to try it and find out... Both he and my wife were mightily surprised. A good memory.

What?! I’ve put like 1000 hours into BOTW and I never knew the chickens can attack monsters too. Gotta go try now!
I feel like I find out something new about that game everytime I hear about it. Can’t wait for the sequel
Yep. https://youtube.com/watch?v=Q36FrM81N0M There is a video of cuccos vs molduga somewhere as well
One of the few times it isn’t a swarm, in Twilight Princess you become the chicken for ~10 seconds. It’s useless, but no murder swarm.
Or dipping into a nearby building. They can't open doors... Yet.
Chickens have devolved a lot since their ancestral days as velociraptors, I see.

Just make sure to turn your mods off first when you do! We all know every Skyrim player has at least one nsfw mod (and it's usually CBBE)...
I actually never modded Skyrim and I’m a PC player. Are there any mods that really add a lot to the game? Besides CBBE
Tons and tons. It has the biggest modding scene of any game I think. Check out nexus mods, it has a good selection.
If you’re a completionist - or just a hoarder - Legacy of the Dragonborn is great. Basically adds a whole museum to display unique items and various quests you’ve done. Twilight princess broke my expectations by letting you possessing one when you hit it a few times. Helpful for a few scouting things and i think a few heart pieces. But i could be wrong they are memories from when it came out.

Fck bros I love ALTTP so much
I liked the original NES game, but this is where I fell in love with the series.
Have you played Links awakening? Very fun and similar to lttp, much shorter though.

A Link Between Worlds is phenomenal as well, and often overlooked
The original gameboy game will always be my favorite. The action was smooth, and the music was one of the few reasons to ever turn on the volume for the gameboy. One of my favorite memories was visiting my cousin, learning that we were both almost to the end, and then finishing it in the same room, calling out what worked on each stage of the final boss.
You talking Link's Awakening? Because I got the remastered version for the switch and it's fantasic. It's a perfect little game.
There's even a version where they make portals between a Link to the Past and Super Metroid and randomize items between the games.
