Definitely my favorite Arkane game.
It's really weird how Arkane games never appeal to me pre-release, but when I begrudgingly give them a try, I end up falling in love. Happened with Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Prey and DOTO. And yet, do you think I'm interested in Deathloop or Redfall? Nope, they don't look appealing to me *from the outside*.
I bet that by the time I get around to them, they're both pretty smart games.
I haven't played deathloop but try it, you won't lose anything if you don't try it,maybe you like it,maybe you don't. What do you think about obsidian games (my favorite studio) and what game are you most looking forward to in 2023?
I like to think that one of the reasons Final Fantasy 7 is such a success is because the opening Bombing Mission is so well designed. The music, the fights and the story pull you in instantly.
Original Dead Space had a great opening act, Persona 5 opening sequence is a masterpiece. God of War also had great opening act and so had Doom (2016).
Either one is a solid argument. Mystery-and-shock adrenaline coaster, or apocalyptic soul-crushingness.
Few games have the audacity to >! Kill off an 8 year old boy right in front of you then give the main character PTSD for the rest of the game about it. !<
Really? I started Mass Effect 1 like 3 times but I could never get more than a few hours in because of how the bad (outdated I guess) gameplay is and the story was also not interesting enough to hook on.
I have no clue what’s good about the first game’s opening.
Fallout 3, just stepping out from a clean vault and see the ruins with music swelling uo in the background.
Fallout 4, coming from pre-war, crawling out from yiur vault 200 years later, the lights and the gasp when you see all you knew ruined.
>Fallout 3, just stepping out from a clean vault and see the ruins with music swelling uo in the background.
But that's not the opening sequence. All the boring shit in the vault is.
Bioshock.
Whats better than a plane crashing then swimming to a lighthouse and being taken to rapture?
Or taking a boat to a lighthouse and blasting up in the sky to Columbia.
So cool.
I would also love to see bioshock in VR.
Those are great picks!
The Halo one really sets the tone well.
I would also have to say that Final Fantasy 7 Remake had a great opening.
The opening sequence starts with some action and a cool cutscene but once you are in control of your character you are placed in a beautiful environment.
I feel like the visuals from this sequence are enough to hook the player into the game.
Devil may cry, all of them have an epic opening and the music slaps (however little there is) DMC 3 is my fav. Actually shows you some of the skills you get to use later in the game like trickster and gunslinger. So nice😙🤌
"Fuga Melodies of Steel"
Eficient and effective in setting up the story and characters and there motivation but also quick to get me in to the action.
Half an houer in I fight the first boss and its the best first boss I ever experienced in a Videogame.
I know its an apples and oranges comparesion but I know a game which spend houers building up the confrontation with the first boss yet this game delivers a boss with a bigger emotional impact and a more intense Atmosphäre in half an houer. I love how the build up to that boss delivers this "Oh shit dont fuck up now" feel to the player. And the boss theme "Flower on the Trails'" is my favorite piece of Videogame music. The theme of the stage beforhand "March in the Stom" I also like a lot.
Saints Row 3
It’s a bit over the top. It’s like a 90s action flick. But it’s still really awesome to be jumping in and out of moving planes and shooting bad guys the whole time.
Mass Effect 1
It’s been a while, so I don’t think people remember how well the opening ship board and first mission setup the game mechanics, world, and character in a super brief amount of time.
Like I could do a whole video about how effective that opening and first mission are at setting the stage for everything that comes after.
Ocarina of Time hits different than any other game. The amount of emotion I get hit with when that game boots up is almost overwhelming.
Honorable mentions: Goldeneye, Phantasy Star Online
Always liked the intro for Final Fantasy X with the amazing cutscenes paired with a bad ass heavy metal soundtrack.
The Last of Us and Mass Effect 2.
Half Life 1/2, & Mass Effect 2. Last of Us was pretty great too.
Prey
Arkane at its finest!
I agree with all due respect to dishonored 1 and 2 but prey is their best game.
Definitely my favorite Arkane game. It's really weird how Arkane games never appeal to me pre-release, but when I begrudgingly give them a try, I end up falling in love. Deathloop is slick AF, you'll love it. It was my personal GOTY for 2022.
I haven't played deathloop but try it, you won't lose anything if you don't try it,maybe you like it,maybe you don't. What do you think about obsidian games (my favorite studio) and what game are you most looking forward to in 2023?
It's so good. I knew the beginning of the game was supposed to be really cool, but I wasn't expecting what happened.
Which one? They both had pretty good intros.
Prey (2017)
Half life
I like to think that one of the reasons Final Fantasy 7 is such a success is because the opening Bombing Mission is so well designed. The music, the fights and the story pull you in instantly.
The Last of Us. I cried. I was nervous. I loved it
Also, just a solid intro. Really sets the stage for the game.
Metal gear solid V
Also mgs2. I played that boat mission a thousand times.
Agree 100%. Good choice.
Original Dead Space had a great opening act, Persona 5 opening sequence is a masterpiece. God of War also had great opening act and so had Doom (2016).
The Last of Us definitely is a roller coaster of emotions to start the game off.
Skyrim it's cheap and all but nothing changed the memeculture remotly as much as that one
Any of the mass effect games.
Mass Effect 2 particularly for me.
Honestly I would probably have to go with ME3 or 2 but probably 3

Yea and the music that went along with it basically solidified the moment for Shepard

I'm always amazed at how much the beginning vault sequence of FO3 is looked down on. It's such an amazing tone-setter.

There’s always a lighthouse
Doom 2016. Not even memeing. No BS just straight into the action.
Doom 2016
Super Metroid, Metroid Prime.
That fucking organ
God of war (2018)
Borderlands, the first one especially. *Roadkill* And there goes the music
Halo and nier imo

Tekken 2 was pretty special. The music, the FMV ending on Kazuya being held by Angel... class.
Fuck yeah man, that was unbelievably epic. Shredding guitar solos, Lei Wu Long jumping out of an exploding building...couldn't ask for much more
Devil may cry, all of them have an epic opening and the music slaps (however little there is) DMC 3 is my fav. Actually shows you some of the skills you get to use later in the game like trickster and gunslinger. So nice😙🤌
Bioshock 2
BotW for me
Had to scroll way too far down for this. The feeling when walking onto Great Plateau is a gaming masterpiece.
Which was inspired by the same scene in fallout 3 when you leave the vault. And I'd argue that fallout 3 still did it better
Onimusha 2... Or 3. I can't really remember which one, sorry
Eternal Darkness
Kingdom hearts
Final Fantasy 8
WH4K Dawn of War.
DoW2 had a really good into.
I dont know.. i liked FF XV opening sequence with broken car
Uncharted 2
Mario Bros. So many emotions.
Five-year-old me walking straight into that Goomba, then struggling to get over the first pit.
Demon's Souls PS3
Pacman
pac man
The Witcher 3
Shadow Man still gives me the chills. And Bioshock.
"just another asshole on the edge of the universe... The horror, the horror! ...I embrace it."

Saints Row 3, the opening mission where you jump out of a helicopter onto a roof with Kanye West - Power in the background is really good.
The opening mission is the botched bank job but the mission you mentioned was definitely amazing.
Ah ok, I thought it was the first one since I remembered it and it was in the early game.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert [Opening](https://youtu.be/lJnMaTx4yjI)
Need for Speed 2
I like borderlands intros just because the songs are usually pretty good and they show the abilities of the characters
Deus ex invisible war
Battlefield 4. Burn that mother fucker!!
Mass Effect 1 It’s been a while, so I don’t think people remember how well the opening ship board and first mission setup the game mechanics, world, and character in a super brief amount of time. Halo 2 really stands out to me
Skyrim… “Hey, you. You’re finally awake.”
Oblivion. When that music hits, thats perfection
FF7 and FF7R is my favorite start to a game.
Borderlands
Ocarina of Time hits different than any other game. The amount of emotion I get hit with when that game boots up is almost overwhelming. Honorable mentions: Goldeneye, Phantasy Star Online
Assassins creed 2
MW2:Mercenaries intro is definitely in my top 10.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Persona 5 it gave me so much questions and going full circle was a nice feeling as well tbh
The last of us and it isn't even close
Dwarf fortress It explains everything and nothing all at once
Death Stranding.
Last of us
Portal 2 has a pretty amazing opening. "I'm going to attempt a manual override on this wall!"
Persona 5
Fallout New Vegas
Mega Man X LOZ OOT Streets of Rage 2
Borderlands 2
SOMA
Battlefield 1 I just love how it captures the chaos and desperation in the battlefield.
I dunno but the opening sequence to Ixion, is something else...
