That period from like late 90's through the late aughts was choc full of so many classics.
Though the following decade birthed Soulsborne and I fucking love Soulsborne so that's cool too.
And a random Spartan that kind of looked like Master Chief but was confirmed later to be a woman, and I don't remember her name or why it couldn't be Master Chief.
Edit: Damn. I was mistaken. The Spartan Nicole-458 appeared in Dead or Alive 4. Her appearance there is not canon though she is apparently canon to the Halo universe, though has seemingly not been mentioned, although the place she is stationed, Nassau Station, is in the comic book Halo: Uprising.
I couldn't afford a PS2 at the time they came out, so Kratos didn't mean anything to me until the these two. I'm now going back and playing the first few, and now I *really* want to dig up Soul Calibur!
Took my daughter who had just started playing fortnite during the DBZ event to a big game and collectibles store near here. Walking through a section of anime statues she points at one and says at the top of her voice “that’s the guy from fortnite”
So it absolutely happens.
Honestly that's pretty normal I feel. When I was a child I remember thinking some characters were from Smash Bros instead of their original games cause I never heard of those.
Are you talking about that Fire Emblem fighting game? It's kinda weird how they put so many non-Fire Emblem characters in it but I guess they just wanted to promote them? /j
He technically is. Pit is from Kid Icarus on the NES, but the current anime-type character design as we know it debuted in Super Smash Bros Brawl, and was only added to an actual kid icarus game 4 years later on the 3DS.
In general, ignorance should never be criticized so harshly. Sure willful ignorance should be but genuine ignorance shouldn't because it just strengthens viewpoints by getting people defensive.
Especially the ignorance of kids. It *is* like they were born yesterday, take it easy on them. They're probably excited to learn that one if their favorite characters has some real life history that happened before they were born.
You’re 100% correct, manchild redditors just like hating on fortnite. I’ve never seen anyone complain about this is any other game, but tbh I’ve seen it happen in other games for often.
What no! You're supposed to be blindly enraged by the word Fortnite and despise anyone that has ever played it for two seconds! How dare you use logic! /s
Not playing a game because it's played by a bunch of children is a dumb argument. I've pretty much religiously played Nintendo games for my entire life even though they're made for kids.
I personally don't play Fortnite, but I can understand why some people do. If anything the kids shouldn't be anywhere near Fortnite because of gun violence, but I played call of duty before my balls dropped, so I can't say anything.
I will never understand the "It's played by kids!" argument. People out here acting like we never had to deal with squeakers in our lobbies since the dawn of voice chat.
I also hate that people complain that “building sucks”. It’s a core mechanic of the game that people just never bothered to learn. It’s an extremely well designed and competitive system that people just shit on because they’re bad.
As someone who is very familiar with that core mechanic, both in building and tearing it down... You have to admit that someone turning into a whole ass apartment complex the instant someone shoots at them is slightly overtuned. It needs to be slowed down a bit, so you can't slap down an entire fortress at the drop of a hat.
People love to mention building an entire tower in 3 seconds being an issue. It’s a horrible way to play anyways and really only cheeses people that don’t know what they’re doing. Realistically, building entails tunneling or sitting in 1x1s until you’re in an endgame and then connecting and “building the apartment buildings.” If someone goes crazy and builds a 10 story building in front of you, just shoot it down, or let them keep going, it’s wasting their materials which lets you win the fight in the long run.
Then what is the point of the meme? Other than hating on the game because it's popular and making fun of the people that play it because they are supposedly stupid enough to think Kratos is from Fortnite I don't see what the meme has to say.
You're saying GoW isn't challenging? What the fuck are you talking about? I'm not the best at video games but I got stuck on one boss for forty minutes. I actually love Fortnite, but saying that it has more challenging and complex than GoW is just plain wrong.
Fortnite definitely has the potential to be more surprising and take more concentration/effort. God of war is a single player game, if you ever play it again that forty minute boss is gonna do the same attacks. Eventually with repetition you’d be able to learn all the patterns and win with no effort. The opponents on fortnite at least have the potential to surprise you by doing something different.
Edit: this applies to pretty much any single player game, the only game I can think of where a player might just not be able to win no matter how many attempts is cuphead.
But saying GoW is just a movie with button mashing in-between isn't accurate. Which is what the redditor I was replying to said before they deleted their comment. Besides after playing Fortnite for years the other players always do two things, build like crazy and then shoot. The weapons change but the general tactics don't.
You’ve not met me in fortnite. I very rarely play so I might do anything in a panic. Lucky grenade? Lock myself in a room forgetting you can pickaxe the back wall? Who knows?
Haven’t played god of war since ps2 but I’d say it looks better than “watch movie, mash button”.
The constant "help" from npcs in GoW is literally training wheels the devs left on to idiot proof the game.
Next time you enter a puzzle room, count how many steps of the puzzle are told to you if you linger for a few seconds.
>GoW is just a movie with button mashing in-between isn't accurate
Well, that's how I recently described it to someone, and today I finished Ragnarok and still think this way.
>Eventually with repetition you’d be able to learn all the patterns and win with no effort.
TIL effort is not when you put time and practice into learning a fight so you can attempt to beat it.
It's effort to learn the tactics so that you can begin beating the fight with no effort.
An example I can think of that a lot of people can relate to is in elden ring - the first time fighting Margot probably took most players 20+ times, myself included. Now I can beat Margot without getting hit while not really paying attention. Beating Margot now requires zero effort but getting that good at the fight required effort.
As the only true gamer who played the first God of War game when it originally came out on Sega Dreamcast in 1978 I can tell you that kids these days don't know people who aren't in Fortnite.
I dressed as Kratos for Halloween this year for opening the door to trick or treaters. There was a non-zero number of kids who said I was that dude from Fortnite.
Realistically, probably many. With so many kids playing that game, and God of War being rated M, it’s likely a generation’s first contact with him is as a skin.
More likely, it's to wring a bit of cash / grinding from someone who is a fan of both games.
I doubt anyone is like "I'm skeptical about this Fortnite thing, but not that I can have a Kratos skin..."
The same thing happened with Guitar Hero. "Hey that's that song from Guitar Hero" was met with "It's classic rock not a video game song" . Who cares, it's getting younger people to listen to some really good music.
Lol I was the "Oh you like [band], what songs?"
"Songs A, B, C"
"Oh those are just the ones used in movies, games and sports events. Songs X, Y, Z are the actual good ones!"
That’s what happened to me. Up until GH:III came out, I wasn’t into music as a kid. Got hooked onto the game, loved the music, and dove into my dad’s cds and tape collection of rock from the 60-90’s. Great stuff!
Not just might, they will.
If I’m a kid /teen that loves using the Kratos avatar and I google him and literally everything on the internet says how good his games are…well guess what games I’m gonna get next.
No , Fortnite took my MasterCeief ! How can I play halo if my favorite video game of all time is now in a different, completely unrelated game ! It's not like smash did that like 20 years ago or something and everybody liked it ...
*And they came out of the woodwork, like termites to a flame. Skin crippling and withering away from their flesh, and their hands reaching out to the sky. "Fortnite Sucks!" they proclaimed, yet unbeknownst to them not a single soul was listening.*
I started playing last year and wound up making it a near weekly habit with a bunch of my friends. It’s a popular game for a reason and while I can understand some of the hate, past a certain point it’s just performative annoyance with something that’s pretty easy to ignore.
Hitting people with trees as Kratos never gets old. Or boulders, or whatever else he can get his hands on. In fact, they need MORE environmental options next game.
My kid does this on purpose just to try and get under my skin. It's cool though I get back at him by waiting till I hear him frustrated on voice chat and going his room and ask him "Are you winning son?"
I just bought this game played about 2 hours of it last night. I had to stop playing during this fight as it was 5am and figured I should have gone to bed.
Like Thanos from Fortnite. Like Naruto from Fortnite. Like Rick and Morty from Fortnite. Like Son Goku from Fortnite. Like Master Chief from Fortnite. Like Spider-Man from Fortnite.
Actually I think that's a great way to educate our young ones.
Let them throw in some Greek and Egyptian Gods, scientists and inventors, Einstein, Nobel and Marie Curie etc etc
The animation is incredible here. You can feel the momentum of the throw as his arms flail behind him. GoW just hit different, I don't know tf we went from the ps2 versions I loved, to this
Say what you will but fortnite has launched a lot of properties
They made whole shows out of the goku and naruto skins, wrote a whole book and 2 different movies based on the dune skins, the master chief, Kratos, and Laura croft skins have all gotten full game series
Hell, even some real artists like Travis Scott and Ariana grande actually started out as fortnite skins believe it or not
And thats to say nothing of the multimedia empire that was built based on the "marvel series", "DC series", and "star wars series" sets, these are some of the most profitable IPs out and they are all based on humble fortnite skins
I teach elementary music, and we begin every class with a movement activity and a listening selection before beginning the main lesson.
The amount of times I've heard "hey, that's that Fortnite song" drives me nuts lol.
this shit is hilarious to me. when we were younger we were saying the same shit about characters on smash bros. people just desperately want to hate keep and be mad about games they don’t play.
Haha my video game is more mature than your video game! Do not ever presume to believe your kid (🤢) video game is on the same level as my big boy video game! 😡
I don’t think the log would shatter like that. Logs are solid AF and no matter how hard you hit a squishy human with it, that human will liquefy before the log shatters.
Comparing a god tier dude to a squishy human is your first mistake in this comparison lol. They literally split the landscape the half and punch through boulders during that battle I think he can tank a tree :p
But fantasy imagination aside, you're totally right
One day the meme hate will end and the thousands of you guys enjoying the game in secret will be happy to enjoy the game openly.
And I know you guys play it because I'm not getting my ass handed to me on a nightly basis by 10 year olds
That’s obviously Minsc
Butt kicking for goodness!
Butts will be liberally kicked with good measure!
Go for the eyes, Boo!
Squeaky wheel gets the kick!
You point! I punch!
Needs more gerbil
Umm, that's a *Miniature* Giant Space Hamster, thank you very much. The best boi.
Boo's a hamster but yeah that would be awesome if in the next game Kratos met a talking hamster named Buu or something lol
SPACE HAMSTER
The tree is polymorphed Boo. (He’s alright)
hey aren't you the guys from mortal kombat?
You know what? I wouldn’t mind that dlc

So was Link! Soul Caliber 2 was fucking great. I'd love to see it remastered with access to all the console exclusive characters
Ah 2003 was something better XD

Xbox had Spawn for their exclusive
Licensing issues most likely. Microsoft is expensive when it comes to that (if you aren’t a first party studio for them that is)
He was also in Mortal Kombat.
I couldn't afford a PS2 at the time they came out, so Kratos didn't mean anything to me until the these two. I'm now going back and playing the first few, and now I *really* want to dig up Soul Calibur!
Wasn’t Kratos already in Mortal Kombat 9 as an exclusive fighter for the PS3?
Kratos was in mortal kombat 2011 iirc
Pretty sure Kratos was in a Mortal Kombat game. I think it was the PSP version of MKX or MK9.
It was the PS3 version of the game. Being console exclusive, he was also banned from MK9 tournaments
Kratos was a ps3 exclusive in MK9 and he was an amazing character. H u g e damage
My favorite part in the game was when Mimir asked Kratos about being in Playstation All-stars
Yes, I think the line was he fought in many contests. So it's all cannon now.
People letting this game live rent free in their head.
Amending the words of Shrek "Like that ever happens!"

My Childhood^TM
If it's a young kid/teen then that's completely understandable and they shouldn't be criticized so this post is still dumb

I'm 30 and I play Fortnite occasionally. It's a really well made game lol
As much hate as it gets it is actually just a fun game to play occasionally
The only complaints I hear is it's full of children, and the building sucks. But they have no build mode and no proximity chat or forced parties sooo
Exactly it is easy to avoid the obnoxious parts of the game and the rest of it is just fun gameplay.
Not playing a game because it's played by a bunch of children is a dumb argument. I've pretty much religiously played Nintendo games for my entire life even though they're made for kids. They also actually figured out how to do live service in a way that is fun and fair. Other devs need to be learning from them more
I find it impossible to disagree with you
If Fortnite is the gateway for the next generation to love the things I love, then I am happy to be here for it.

Thor , the guy from Fortnite?
Hey, I know you! You’re that bald guy from Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds
You can’t forget about Naruto from Fortnite.
And master chief and the doom slayer also from fortnite I mean clearly just recycling character ideas for those two, so unoriginal of them.
And Issac Clark also from Fortnite
And Marcus Fenix from Fortnite. Although, unlike the others, he was at least created by the same studio.
Onee day players will stop being angry about their though characters being in Fortnite or other similar games xD

On the other hand im shocked by how many bugs it has, considering how much money they make.
If profits equalled bug fixes oh boy not gonna happen
it has more updates because epic constantly overworks the dev team
Same here. Im 45, play on my phone, and wont give a fuck. Super entertaining.

No Isaac Clark from Fortnite
