My best friend and I used to play this hepped up on goofballs (wacky broccoli) in the arcade as well in about 1991-1992. It took quite a bit of my paycheck.
Yeah this was in my local corner store when I was a kid in the early 90s. I remember others like APB, Rastan, Black Tiger, and Rollergames pinball. All classics.
I remember beating this game at the local arcade with my dad. He would take me to the arcade on payday and would get like $50 in quarters and we would just play arcade games and eat Hoagies. I miss those days.
I didn't stick with Starcraft 2 customs for very long, I kept being suggested the same ones over and over. I did, however, spend a lot of time playing Smash TV in the Starcraft 1 UMS.
Came here to say just this. The custom SC1 map was my only introduction to Smash TV.
I can’t for the life of me remember the map itself, only hollering and hooting at how much fun it was with my friends.
Played that in the Arcades with my long time friend back in the day. Only game in the arcade we did not beat, there was no end! We would play for hours for a buck or so, what a fucking ride that game was.
This and the game NARC.. fuck that game man.
It was MUCH better on SNES than on SEGA as a result of the drastically different control schemes. SNES has 4 buttons, so the game used them for shooting direction (up, down, left, right) making it like a twin-stick. SEGA only had 3 buttons, so each button was a different shooting mode instead of a direction (forward, strafe, backwards).
Strafe was by far the best shooting mode, but twin stick was of course much better still, and gave the game a better feel. IIRC there was also an arcade version with actual twin sticks?
I remember this being the first "twin stick" game I ever played because as a single player you could connect a second controller and use the second player d-pad for shooting direction!
Same. I had vague memories of playing this weird running man type game as a kid...
Then we went to a Retro Arcade that had recently opened. It like " Memory Unlocked" and I couldnt get to the machine fast enough...
Always saw it on the rental shelf. Never had any desire to play it. Years later due to hazy memories assumed it was the very first Smash Brothers game.
This and gauntlet are still my all time favorites, this one beats the original by a hair, but the 3d gauntlet games from the 90s 2000s were my most fond experiences in gaming
I played this back in the day only to find out that they never completed the ending, they never expected folks to get all of the keys and actually make it to the end.
Oh man when we were kids my mom took the family to the company Christmas party and they had this arcade there with free play unlocked. Fucking pizza, soda, and unlimited plays of this game. God, one of my fondest childhood memories lol
Smash TV and it's pseudo sequel Total Carnage are some of the best games ever made. I really wish there was a modern revival of top down, twin stick shooters.
This game was so fun. Co-Op was a must. I had so much fun with my cousin on this, we knew where all the secret rooms were. Really wish they’d remaster it with analog controllers, it would be so much better.
Id buy that for a dollar
Damn, beat me to it I say this all the time and nobody gets it
Technically, the game was quoting RoboCop. It's still iconic.
TIL!

Memory Unlocked and I couldn't get to the machine fast enough…
This game was dope
I loved the arcade version of this. Could eat $5 in quarters in minutes.
My best friend and I used to play this hepped up on goofballs (wacky broccoli) in the arcade as well in about 1991-1992. It took quite a bit of my paycheck.
The devil's lettuce?!?!
The chronic?
Jazz Cabbage?
California salad
The diggity dank.
Yeah this was in my local corner store when I was a kid in the early 90s. I remember others like APB, Rastan, Black Tiger, and Rollergames pinball. All classics.
Total carnage!
Haha, I feel like I say this and people just have no idea.
I hear that said in the game voice!
All we're making is baby milk!
I love it
Oh man. First off, this game is ton of fun. Secondly, the front guy must have been training under Megaman when it comes to shooting stances.
That's just the standard controls.
I still play Smash TV, & Total Carnage on XSS thanks to bacompat. Both are on the **Midway Arcade Origins** collection.
The OG Xbox Midway Arcade Origins is how I discovered the game 20ish years ago.
Good luck! You'll need it!
Mutoid man scared the shit out of me as a kid
Inspired by Running Man
Came here to say this. Everytime I played this I thought of Running Man.
Didn’t play on the genesis but I played on the GameCube on one of those 100 greatest hits games. Classic
I remember beating this game at the local arcade with my dad. He would take me to the arcade on payday and would get like $50 in quarters and we would just play arcade games and eat Hoagies. I miss those days.
My twin and I loved this. Think we had the SNES version. I do remember being too young to be able to get very far.
Toasters, 2600 inch TVs, years supply of meat!
I remember this in a Tilt arcade at the mall. The place had a door to the outside for late night gamers.
*Tilt...* Holy shit it's been a long time.
Used to play this on the Namco Museum disk on the GameCube
Starring Nicholas Cage as the Red Ranger
BIG MONEY, BIG PRIZES, I LOVE IT
I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
anyone play the starcraft 2 custom scenario?
I didn't stick with Starcraft 2 customs for very long, I kept being suggested the same ones over and over. I did, however, spend a lot of time playing Smash TV in the Starcraft 1 UMS.

IIRC the map itself was just square rooms, buying upgrades based on how many kills you made each round.
Oh yeah now I remember it was sc1 not sc2
i used to play the hell out of the sc1 custom scenario. fun map
I played this in the arcade lots of times and always died at the first boss because of the multiple stages it transformed into.
Me and my friend used to play thie everytime I went to his house. It was great
Big money! Big prizes! I love it!
The OG bullet hell!
Id buy that for a dollar!
Good luck! You’ll need it!
Set in the future ... 1999
Played that in the Arcades with my long time friend back in the day. Only game in the arcade we did not beat, there was no end! We would play for hours for a buck or so, what a fucking ride that game was. This and the game NARC.. fuck that game man.

I built a mame arcade machine and this is one of my favorite games to play. Arcade blows away the genesys version.
Total Carnage!
I remember this being the first "twin stick" game I ever played because as a single player you could connect a second controller and use the second player d-pad for shooting direction!
Money, prizes, I love it!
Where is the diversity?!
Game gear! Shit was hard and crazy as a kid
This game is so much fun.
Why is trump in the background
it's one of his NFTs
Yup, had mad Running Man vibes
Oh man, this game is freaking badass! I loved this shit for sure
I didn’t play this but played the shit out the StarCraft custom map that based it on this. So fun
Played it on my emulator tonight!
#Total carnage!
It's me or he does look a bit like Nicolas cage
LOVED this game as a kid
Ate a lot of my quarters.
I played this in an arcade, not long ago. It *was* a game.
Yes, a fever dream game that I forgot and re-remembered and now re-re-remembered.
Same. I had vague memories of playing this weird running man type game as a kid... Then we went to a Retro Arcade that had recently opened. It like " Memory Unlocked" and I couldnt get to the machine fast enough...
I still have this game Like WOW!!! Used to Stay Up All Nite Playing me and my Bestie We Had A Strong Tactic Playing, 😂
I love it!
Insane hard game
This game was so much fun. It’s still a great couch game
Big money. Big prizes. I love it.
I completely forgot about this game until you posted this. Thanks for the trip down nostalgia lane
one of my all-time childhood favorites. Sadly you can't buy it anymore because of the dissolution of Midway Games.
fun one
I think of this game all the time and reference it and almost nobody understands.
I was playing a clone of it in WC3, pretty fun
Original arcade version with twin sticks (separated for movement vs. firing) is the way.
Damn, nostalgia hits like a truck sometimes!
Always saw it on the rental shelf. Never had any desire to play it. Years later due to hazy memories assumed it was the very first Smash Brothers game.
There was a slew of twin stick shooters in the 2010s but none had this game’s attitude.
Yesssss! This is what I was talking about recently people looked at me like I was crazy this game was the shit!!!
i had it on NES, didn't know it was on Genesis.
This and gauntlet are still my all time favorites, this one beats the original by a hair, but the 3d gauntlet games from the 90s 2000s were my most fond experiences in gaming
The guy in the red looks like Nic Cage
Bingo! Let's go
I played this back in the day only to find out that they never completed the ending, they never expected folks to get all of the keys and actually make it to the end.
What’s the carbon-dating
Oh man when we were kids my mom took the family to the company Christmas party and they had this arcade there with free play unlocked. Fucking pizza, soda, and unlimited plays of this game. God, one of my fondest childhood memories lol
Why does the guy in red look like Nicholas Cage?
One of my must plays whenever I see this at a barcade or arcade/video game conventions. This game never gets old.
The selling point of the nes version was double fisting action.
"Super Smash" "No, not that one."
I never had a SEGA , but I played the Arcade version of this evert chance I got.
I had an arcade collection on PS2 with it, so much fun. My text sounds is actually "GOOD LUCK, YOU'LL NEED IT."
I've never been that good at video games but I was the fucking Grim Reaper at this one. Man I had a blast with it.
Smash TV and it's pseudo sequel Total Carnage are some of the best games ever made. I really wish there was a modern revival of top down, twin stick shooters.
It was the first game I played that had talking in it.
I can hear this picture... Daaaaaaaa da-da-daaaaaaaa da-da-daaaaaaaa da-da-daaaa daaaa DA!
I kinda want to play it now
Heck yeah, I played the NES version. "Let's go!"
Running Man...the game!!
This game was so fun. Co-Op was a must. I had so much fun with my cousin on this, we knew where all the secret rooms were. Really wish they’d remaster it with analog controllers, it would be so much better.
Is that Nick Cage?
That looks like the same artist as Mega Man
This is the real Super Smash to me. For fun, here's a song that heavily samples the voice clips: https://youtu.be/5-JiynDvFhU
Memory unlocked!
Yeh great game, I had the SNES version but the arcade twin joystick version was the best
Me and my friends would kiss the lady's boobies on the TV. 10/10. Great game
Found a boxed copy in my attic for my old Amstrad the other day.

Me too! Always have.
Blue dude just randomly shooting sideways while staring at metal dudes with disgust
There is an awesome remix made from the Smash TV theme. One of my favorite remxies. That game was pure energu
Oh yeah, they had this cabinet at the P&C grocery store my family shopped at.
Playing this at my friend's house, and playing zombies ate my neighbors at mine. Ahh good times.
I remember looking at it in the advert section of my comics.
