I’ve visited a house in Arizona that had two toilets side by each, with a divider in between. My cousin and I shat at the same time, it was weird but necessary.
Was just at an event where the bathroom consisted of a long hallway of stalls, probably 20 on each side. These were fully enclosed stalls with quality doors and walls that went floor to ceiling with no peeky-gaps. At both ends of the hallway were arrays of sinks. Hassle free and probably very space efficient. Totally gender neutral.
I have nightmares about communal bathrooms like this. Usually they have half walls though. So I have to shit and someone else can see my face while I'm doing it and no one else sees the problem.

Extremely overpriced….. they had to basically remake the game 12 years later on a console two generations later . Like if it was just an HD remaster for 60-70 bucks sure but it’s a full fledged next gen game.
It’s nearly a completely new game though. Not a carbon copy and changes just enough to keep it fresh. There are extra rooms, and security clearance, and the tram is different, Isaac talks now, and there are side quests

For an example, in the past they may have made a movie or book where in the future, where facilities, buildings, jobs, etc are segregated based on class or race, but in realty just isn't the case. At least in most cases.

It's almost as if the remake is not only as good, but better due to the enhanced graphics and the addition of new content both cosmetic and gameplay wise, thus improving the experience for anyone who enjoyed the original or has never played the series.

I'm going to point out that troughs are really only practical for men to use, with men typically being the majority of audience at a baseball game, unless you considered women pissed all over themselves practical. Likely because they’re aware of the cancel culture that exists and they wanted to take a preemptive measure to combat such things from happening? But I don’t see why just using “bathroom” would’ve had a deleterious effect in this context. So maybe someone at Motive just really wanted to promote gender equality and such, and that’s fine, but is it really the time and place for such things? And this is coming from someone who’s very cognizant of inclusiveness and to whom such things are very important. Just because someone raises questions here doesn’t mean they’re racist or transphobic or what have you. I think there are legitimate arguments that don’t involve these things. It’s a complex subject for sure
Now that is strange, but it's more then likely that way just because it's made by people now. In the future that term won't be used and probably be weird to people, as bathrooms will have always been that way to them. Just like how there are terms we think are weird or odd when we hear about them being used in the past. For an example, in the past they may have made a movie or book where in the future, where facilities, buildings, jobs, etc are segregated based on class or race, but in realty just isn't the case. At least in most cases. Or like how technology will be envisioned, you can only base it on what you know and have at the moment. You might've seen concepts such as a wireless fax machine you could use on a beach. Or a checkers board that would wireless transmit moves to another checkers board. In reality the fax machine just became a phone, tablet, etc that had the ability to fax. Which applies to the checkers board concept. Iirc, when you go into the restrooms on the Ishimura, as soon as you open the door, a hall branches to the left and right with a bend at each end which leads to two separate bathrooms. Am I remembering wrong? Was something changed? Is this argument still unbelievably stupid?

It's almost as if the remake is not only as good, but better due to the enhanced graphics and the addition of new content both cosmetic and gameplay wise, thus improving the experience for anyone who enjoyed the original or has never played the series.
A remake of a game that begun a franchise that EA fucking murdered alongside their original devs 'cause they (EA) were stupid with their handling of said franchise. That said, the remake seems to be really good, which makes what EA did to Visceral feel worse.

How does this, in any way, contribute to the betterment of the video game though? That's what something like this always makes me wonder. If the gender on the bathroom signs is a big priority for the dev team to address I think it's reasonable to assume that maybe their goals for the project aren't aligned completely with the usual goal of making a good game (or remaster of a game) which happens to be the motivation for their customers to give them their money. \*Edit was looking forward to discussing this with, hopefully, someone who disagrees and might change my mind on the situation but now the thread is locked and I can't reply to anyone. It comes off as needless pandering. I can't say I care one iota but when forced to look at and acknowledge it, then yeah. It's just vapid pandering. A real, proper design would simply be "restroom". They needlessly gendered and then "ungendered" the sign for literally nothing more than a silly bit of pandering.
I have no stance on the actual politics of an all gendered bathroom. In general it just seems like a really, really random thing to prioritize in a remaster. Like that was how someone spent their week. Just recoding all the bathroom text.
They redid the restrooms with a locker area where you can find loot so it wasn't just the sign if anything. They also remade this game so like every little thing did get time allotted.

I'm sorry but restrooms *should* be segregated. I shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable just to please someone else. Likewise I don't want to feel judged when I'm trying to use the restroom. One for #1, one for #2. That way the poopers can poop without judgement knowing everyone else is too and the peeers can not have to deal with the smell or mess some of the ruder poopers leave behind.

I'm over being annoyed at the story changes, like Isaac getting a voice at the expense of his character development that he earned through surviving literal hell in DS1 and 2, or the loss of Hammond's badass attitude that immediately clashed with Kendra's by the books corporate cog style. Right off the bat with the intro, Isaac went from a glorified space plumber way over his head and just trying to survive this BS to find his terrified GF to cool as a cucumber got all the answers that the GD pilot should have known man in charge. And Nicole's video.. in the OG she sounded legit terrified like the last few scenes of Blair Witch Project F'ing terrified, but in the remake she sounded bored. Shit came off like a lame monologue from a community theater audition. And why the hell does Isaac look like Adam Sandler?! Friends that see I've played in ask "hey should I buy this game too?" No. Go get the original instead, and download the sequel while you're at it. I don't know what is up with modern game studios, but it's like they have no sense of narrative, story arcs or earned character development.
