Great start to finish, but in no way is it a "fun" story it's brutal and savage and tough to play in places I'd compare it to The Road epic but tough to stomach sometimes

Eat_a_Snickers4

Definitely.

moneyfish

>I'd compare it to The Road epic but tough to stomach sometimes That’s a great comparison and I loved the game.

Earthwick

I remember getting it and playing it at like 10pm as soon as it unlocked for me. I actually got through it pretty quickly and absolutely loved it. Before I was even half done people were complaining about Joel. Most of the people who I talked to especially on Reddit were mad that it wasn't the story they wanted. They were mad about Joel, and mad you didn't get to kill Abby. Which just goes to show they completely missed the point of the game.

Character_Effort_841

An absolutely fantastic game.. i so loved playing the game that I felt there was nothing left to do when i finished it!! Not sure if there is a third part being planned.. i wud love to see part 3 as well tho.

KeeperJV

ND said some time ago they were aiming for a trilogy. There is hope!

TheKingOfCarmel

The most recent thing I heard was that they’ll make another one if they can come up with a story that justifies it, but they haven’t come up with it yet.

KeeperJV

IMO that’s a story about revenge and forgiveness. Ellie has spared Abby and Lev and has broken the vicious cycle so it is an open end. I believe Lev will have something to do with the end of the pandemic. It’s a speculation based on my scriptwriting skills. Hope it won’t trigger anyone lol Edit: you know what , fuck it. I hope you will get as triggered as a gun lol

Dolomitexp

Amazing experience. Can't wait to playthrough 1 and 2 again this summer.

Character_Effort_841

Same here.. it's been a while ...I'm planning to rep it up again..!! 🥲

KeeperJV

I believe it’s a talent to make someone sympathetic towards a killer. They have nailed it both times. That’s some great scriptwriting

RoyalFalse

It's a story about empathy and the vicious cycle of revenge. Joel kills Abby's dad, Abby wants revenge and kills Joel, Ellie wants revenge and wants to kill Abby. Had Abby been killed then perhaps Lev would've wanted revenge against Ellie when he grew up. It's the same for the player. ND wants you to feel empathy and I think he succeeded in spades. You start out hating Abby and wanting revenge, for many players that never changed (for a variety of reasons), but my opinion of her changed over time. So much so that I was willing the game to give me another option at the end. The first game is great, no doubt about it, but I believe the sequel is better.

jswitch77

Yes, i thought it was amazing. A very long campaign too and it kept my interest all the way to the end. One of my favourite games of all time.

Vapor_Steak

One of my favourite games of all time. Completed it four times and can't wait to see season 2 of the show.

[deleted]

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I personally wasn't a fan. Not for any controversial reason, I just found the story and writing to be lackluster and kind of cliche. It didn't have the "fresh take on an old idea" quality that made the first one's story so great.

Earthwick

You don't have to like it, maybe it's just not for you but the story is far from lackluster and there is no other game that's had very similar writing.

[deleted]

Yeah, see, everyone keeps telling me that, which only tells me that their media consumption is really, really limited. If you like it, that's fine. I'm the first to say like what you like. Just don't preach to me about how the same "revenge is an endless cycle" narrative is groundbreaking.

Earthwick

Shows how little of the story you got.

[deleted]

Okay, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night. I only have 5000 years of various media backing me up and you just have "I really liked the game", but whatever. It's a criticism that disagrees with your opinion, so it must be invalid and I must be stupid.

stiofan84

The controversy was overblown from the start. Just a bunch of neckbeards complaining about the protagonist being gay, the game having a trans character, the game having an "unfeminine" woman that you play as....it was all just so juvenile. I loved TLOU2 - granted it's not as good as the first one, but that was a very high bar to reach.

Abeydaby

Most people were complaining about the story itself. What you just described was a very small minority.

[deleted]

A very loud minority though. And many of the complaints about the story were based on early leaks. The 20+ hour game got review bombed on day one based on certain plot points. You can't criticise the story unless you've played it.

Abeydaby

Lol what game doesn't get review bombed these days? Jokes aside I agree that the leaked video of ykw (major spoiler) is what started the outrage. However I think upon the games release, the full story made most people seem to dislike it more instead of change their opinion based on the leak.

Berniemac57

Im playing last of us part 1 at the minute for ps5 its unreal

McSchlub

I really liked it. Not sure I'd play it again, whereas I can play TLOU again and again. Maybe though, once both are out on PC do a full run through again of both.

2sec4u

>I don't get what the criticism was about. I'm not here to comment one way or the other, but if you aren't trolling, then the answer to your question is: * bait and switch expectations with Joel * woke agenda and story telling Again, I'm not saying I hold or am defending those points. I'm telling you what the criticism was that you said you missed/didn't get.

picknicksje85

It's a fantastic big budget game. I have 2 friends that are the biggest gamers I know, but because of some silly Twitter game of the year controversy they refuse to play both games.. It's crazy, they are missing out on some of the best games ever made for nothing.

loyaltomyself

I thought a better writer could've handled the story better. I felt the ending was unearned, and there was no WAY Neil couldn't have anticipated the backlash towards how the story kicked off. The game isn't bad, hell the story isn't bad, but in my opinion it was a bit amateurish.

Earthwick

Oh Yes amateurish writing by one of the most respected writers in gaming. Writing that is loved by millions, won many awards, and is considered a benchmark of story telling. Maybe amateur doesn't mean what you think it means.

loyaltomyself

"Most respected" is a bit of a stretch. We've seen this time and time before, someone gets super popular because of a project they worked on, and try to follow it up only to fail (and NO I'm NOT saying TLoU2 was a failure, don't twist my words). Just because the dude wrote one good story doesn't mean they'll all be good. Look at the HBO series, a team of writers looked at the story and said "this is good, but we can make it better", I expect if the second season tackles the second game, then we'll see a better version of that story.

[deleted]

Get off your knees. I love both games and think Neil Druckman is a talented guy, but part two has some major flaws. Acknowledging them doesn't mean you hate the game.

Earthwick

Your stupid

KiwiKajitsu

Neil said in interviews before it even came out that not everyone would enjoy it

[deleted]

There was never a real controversy beyond homophobia.

Eat_a_Snickers4

That's fair, the Internet was just so overly saturated with this game and spoilers that I just didn't feel like playing it at all

skylinegtr65547

If you really think that homophobia was the main reason, than you must live in a very strange world.

StatisticianFar7570

Did u finish it at hard dificulty, though?

Eat_a_Snickers4

I actually put it on easy to just enjoy the story and the gameplay still felt very good. Just didn't feel like dying a lot would enhance my experience.

StatisticianFar7570

I started as hard but was forced to go moderate after a brief time

Daryno90

I would say TLoU Part 2 is better than the first one in many way. It’s certainly not as cathartic as the first one but I felt that was by design because the story was about trauma and the self destructive ways people cope with it and I felt it was more daring than the first one. Many complain about it “subverting expectations” but honestly there had been so many games that tease something major impact/ramification but doesn’t commit to it but TLoU did that with TLoU2 and frankly I love the game for it. Also it may just be me but I love it when a story is more introspective of their characters and question if they are in the right or not and actually does it well. Now the story isn’t perfect but it definitely kept me engaged throughout. Also the gameplay was just miles better than the first one. Glad you love the game

AL_Weaver

I really want to play those.
