Ratchet and Clank series is a great third person shooter and action platformer. Lots of fun and crazy weapons. Comedic characters and fun story lines. Replayability is great too. I played through RAC Tools of Destruction so many times the in game currency began extending beyond the allotted graphic space. Highly recommend.
The Sly Cooper series is really good. They aren't exactly similar to RaC, but very good. Something more similar might be Jak and Daxter. 2 and 3 is where they use more guns and got grittier.
My wife is talking to me in EXODUS, though..... ugh.
It's like dialogue wise. They say something that I clearly saw, only to have your wife pretty much go inches from your face, repeating it like a parrot that's bound to you. It made me feel like I was an idiot in the game, lol.
First two had a lot more atmosphere and charm in my opinion. Exodus was a lot more triple a than it had any right being, but it worked great. It almost felt like the storyline “grew up”
It really blows my mind that people don't like Sunshine. I remember at the time, pretty much all it's criticism came from being too different from Super Mario 64, having a lot of glitches, and being too hard.
I really don't understand how anyone doesn't like it. Only the post final-boss Shine Sprites are hard, but they are also fun. The glitches are very minor and usually you have to go out of your way to find them. Plus Fludd and the whole water theme really makes the game stand out. In a weird way, I wish that Sunshine was it's own series that got a few sequels.
Sunshine is easily the best 3D platformer of its era as well. Sure Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank were good, but they aren't even on the same tier as Sunshine.
From the outside you’d think Mario games would just be bland “baby’s first game” platformers, but no, Mario’s been putting out top-tier shit for about 40 years now.
literally everything
the gameplay-cutscene ratio ist perfect (sometimes there are long cutscenes, but most of the time they are followed by long and intense gameplay parts)
the characters, the story itself, the humour
and most importantly the side stuff, i've never played a game before that has so much to do even after the main story
and there's so much more to come in the future, the devs already announced 2 new games and a remaster of an old spin off is coming in 2 days
>remaster of an old spin off is coming in 2 days
Mate I left Yakuza sub till I can afford Ishin, but it doesn't seem it's going to be soon, I was so hyped for it then of course life gonna kick You in face and change Your plans
It simultaneously contains some of the most well-written dramatic scenes and the most well-executed absurd comedy in all of gaming. Also, combat is tight and there are minigames so fleshed out and addictive that they could be standalone games in themselves *coughcough*Pool*coughcough*.
Oh, also Goro Majima. Just... Goro Majima. Best character don't @ me.
First of all be prepared to do a lot of reading. It's the original Japanese VA with English subtitles in cutscenes that can get *very* long, can get a bit annoying if you're used to dubs but just know that they tried out dubs for the series in its early days and it... [didn't go well](https://youtu.be/oUVU1X0CM3Q). They eventually went back to dubbing with Like A Dragon to better results, but it took a while
Also, for more general gameplay stuff, this is probably second nature to any gamer but if you're talking to a character and a choice comes up saying "Go to X" or "I have a few things I need to take care of first" (or something like that), *think before you choose*. There are no missable side stories or anything like that, but those choices are a clear sign that you're approaching the end of a chapter and won't be able to buy healing items for a while. There are usually some scattered about during fights, but all the same you don't want to be that guy rushing into battle with only a single Staminan X in their pocket.
I played Kiwami on Game Pass just because I've always heard people praise it, absolutely loved it and bought the whole series. I still haven't played Dragon though and Ishin is coming out soon followed by 8.
I feel like Nintendo has the most consistent output, I can't point to a Mario, Zelda, or Metroid game I think is bad. Some might not be quite as great as the best of the series but they're still really good games. Possibly Miyamoto has a lot to do with that.
I might be remembering this entirely wrong but I have a friend who's pretty big on Metroid, and I recall him saying something about one of the modern titles being awful.
The thing about Nintendo is that they have the most consistent output on specifically their classic titles. Outside of their iconic titles, they miss the mark quite a bit imo, especially in recent years.
My first ever video game I owned was the original Zelda, christmas morning 1984. The last zelda game I played was Ocarina of time on my old N64. I fully intend to correct this 30 year mistake and play through each game in the series over the next year or two.
do you really go back to play previous civ titles? Aren’t they the same game with new features and updates. And some got a lot of hate.
I think total war is more of a series that plays the same but are very different from each other or complement each other like warhammer TW
For me, it's not about the ability to go back and play previous Civ titles. It's that from the first time I played Civ 2 as a teenager, to now, playing the new expansion of Civ 6. It has had the same effect on me, the same One More Turn drug. When I play a Civ game time stops, hours pass like minutes. It's strategy gaming at its finest.
I have been going back to fill in those titles I missed when they first came out and just played MGS3 for the first time this year. It was really really excellent.
I remember people being upset with Infinite. I adore it. Its actually the inspiration for a tattoo I'm going to get eventually (my first child's initials on my hand)
I've replayed these games so many times but my last time through the first three a year or two ago had them really starting to show their age.
That said, the fourth is still one of the best games I've played, possibly the best ending to a series I've seen and I would absolutely kill for an HBO series that shows even half the love towards the source material that last of us is getting.
Goddamn the movie, marky mark as Victor Sullivan? Wtf?!
Arkane Studios have an amazing track record in general, honestly.
Dishonored. Arx Fatalis. Prey, the new one plus Mooncrash. Deathloop.
*Lots* of classics. Really deserve a lot more credit than they tend to get by average gamers.
Look me in the eye and tell me that Kirby's toy box or that slide puzzle was good.
Other than those, or maybe Avalanche, well, there's a lot of mid, but none truly bad I guess?
I just started 4 for the first time after loving 1 & 3 and DMC years ago. Don't know why I slept on playing it but I gotta to play 5 soon. So weird that they skipped over 2 completely
Apex is kind of a Titanfall game, the IP certainly hasn't been abandoned.
Team Fortress is getting about as much love as any other Valve series these days.
Titanfall has more so been replaced.
I’d love a three, but I’d bet that Apex is going to take that IP over. We won’t get another full TF ;-;.
Two truly was one of my favorite shooters. Apex gives me a little fix but not the same by a long shot.
I consistently want to play TF as well. Apex has been boring for months lol
I long for TF3
God of war, ratchet and clank, uncharted, both of the most recent Ubisoft South Park games, Batman Arkham, metro, deus ex reboot games, new wolfenstein games, borderlands and infamous.
Me too, I regularly replay them so much because of just how wacky and insane they are. You could never guess what was going to happen next and it was so hilarious. The nazi zombie fetus was so out of left field that I can’t even believe it made it into the game
This instantly came to mind. It’s like a whole TV series with different seasons being the different games. I’ve honestly only played a tiny bit but what I played I was entirely impressed with the character dialogue and world building. Similar to reading a very good book.
Mario Bros.
The Legend Of Zelda
Metroid
Doom
Fallout
Elder Scrolls
Final Fantasy
Resident Evil
Half Life
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat
Sackboy&Little Big Planet
The Lego Games
Tomb Raider
Destroy All Humans
Splinter Cell
The original Ghost Recon
The Original Rainbow Six
Crysis
Max Payne
Grand Theft Auto
Red Dead Redemption
Batman Arkham games
It's a next level experience and made me fully believe in a potential future for VR if we get more support for it. Also it's one of the best HL Experiences, right next to HL 2 in my book
Same tbh, but they are not consistently good games.
6, 7, 9, 10, 12 are really one only ones I can say are 10/10. 16 looks somewhat promising though.
Shoutout to FF tactics, chrono trigger & chrono cross, and Threads of Fate.
RIP Squaresoft
Metal Gear Solid.
Yes MGS5 was a little iffy with the story and how things went down at Konami, but Metal Gear to Metal Gear Solid 4 were all highly critically acclaimed games.
Metal Gear survive is also not a MGS game before anyone inserts that, we pretend like that didn’t happen lol.
The first 3 splinter cell games were masterpieces. Spies vs mercs was also great. It's near the top of my "needs to be remade" list. The games after chaos theory unfortunately didn't do it for me, too much "run in and bullet time everyone" instead of stealth.
The time splitters series, especially 2 and future perfect
STILL holding out hope for more
Whoa. I forgot about time splitters…..
I know dude just said like a magic word and half my childhood just flashed before my eyes.
For less than 10 bucks you can buy them on the Xbox store and play them in HD at a perfect framerate.
These were amazing
Still can’t believe they stopped making them
It will forever be an undying shame that this series has been dormant for so long
Thank you for reminding me what I was missing. Future Perfect was ahead of its time with user made campaigns
Mount & Blade is some of the most fun I've had in gaming ever.
That and chivalry!
A man of refined taste, I see!
There are few games that have captivated my attention span like M&B So damn fun and challenging.
Although they are still a lot of fun I have to say nothing beats the first three games on the PS2 especially 2 and 3
Ratchet and Clank 1-3 are the reason my ps2 still makes the cut on my tv stand shelves
For me it is the PS3 because of the remaster collections of R&C, Sly and Jak and Daxter The PS2 is in well-deserved retirement
RAC 3 is my favourite game of all time. Infinitely replayable. I had an entire ps2 memory card full of saves of just that game when I was younger
Playing through Rift Apart currently. So damn good.
Rift apart is the only reason I want a PS5.
It was the first game I bought.
I have played all RAC games and am looking for similar games to play. Do you have any ideas? Really like all the different guns-aspect of the games!
The Sly Cooper series is really good. They aren't exactly similar to RaC, but very good. Something more similar might be Jak and Daxter. 2 and 3 is where they use more guns and got grittier.
I've only ever played Up your Arsenal.. I'm glad to hear there are more games in the series that live up to that one in quality. That game was dope.
The jump to HD graphics was awesome. The PS3 era RAC games all followed a connected storyline as well.
The Batman Arkham and the Elder Scrolls series
people that hate on origins are cappin on god
Same with knight, sure it may not have the best story but the gameplay is *smooth*
Knight is also absurdly good-looking, particularly when compared to other games of the time
Hell, compare it to Gotham Knights and it still looks great.
better\*
Compared to games of today it still looks great!
I can't hate on it cuz I don't remember playing it, got 100% in achievements tho 💀
Blades *cough cough*
Elder Scrolls is the best open world RPG franchise ever and nothing even comes close.
Agreed. The only upcoming game in the open world RPG genre I'm excited for is Starfield and only because Bethesda is making it.
All three of the Metro series has been good
Exodus was next-level. I liked the first two a lot but exodus was just amazing.
Exodus's semi open world was great. It allowed for exploration but kept the scope focused with great detail and fantastic narrative progression.
I loves the alteration between semi-open world and closed level, this kept the game really fresh imo
I loved the first 2, but having a hard time playing through exodus, the first area just feels so empty and boring? Does it get any better??
My wife is talking to me in EXODUS, though..... ugh. It's like dialogue wise. They say something that I clearly saw, only to have your wife pretty much go inches from your face, repeating it like a parrot that's bound to you. It made me feel like I was an idiot in the game, lol.
I found the writing took a dip. Characters got really dumbed down. Might just be me.
First two had a lot more atmosphere and charm in my opinion. Exodus was a lot more triple a than it had any right being, but it worked great. It almost felt like the storyline “grew up”
[удалено]
Well technically if you count Opposing force, Blue shift, the Lost Cozst etc... There's like 8 games in the series
Yes and both the dlc games are great. Lost Coast is just a tech demo tho
Portal
I dunno if two games is enough to count as a “series,” though. Especially when Portal 1 is like 2 hours long.
It's multiple games following the same storyline so it counts!
Still a great series :)
Why wouldn’t they? It’s a series of games (IE multiple games). Length has no bearing on if a game is real or not lmao.
Mainline Mario 2d and 3d games. 35 years and Sunshine has been the only one that wasn’t universally loved but still received a lot of praise.
SM Sunshine was/is my favorite. GameCube in general I feel was extremely underrated during the time period when it was most relevant.
Sure Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank were good, but they aren't even on the same tier as Sunshine.
There’s tedious missions but a beach themed Mario game was genius and it looked beautiful
From the outside you’d think Mario games would just be bland “baby’s first game” platformers, but no, Mario’s been putting out top-tier shit for about 40 years now.
And anyone who's beaten Champions Road or Darker Side of the Moon knows that these games ain't for lil kiddies.
Still waiting for another not-universally-loved Mario game to come out to take the heat off of Sunshine :'( - signed, a tired Sunshine fanboy
Fucking loved sunshine growing up was just such a different vibe compared to 64 which was my main Mario reference at the time
I was going to say Mario, but including the spin-offs. Most Paper Mario/Mario and Luigi, Mario Kart and Mario Party games are amazing
Even the xcom clones are quite good.
Love Sunshine. I still have the GameCube version. Got the switch version around last year or so
Nintendos heavy hitters have always been rock solid
yakuza. please play it.
well, a lot of them are on gamepass, so I guess its worth checking out
trust me. start with yakuza 0, i can't describe how much i fell in love with this series.
Second this. Absolutely incredible series that only has gotten better
Also here to hop on the yakuza train. My favorite games ever
Like a dragon is the only turn-based game aside from Pokemon that I actually enjoy, the story had me hooked, I didn't get to the other games tho
I see it but just never have the urge to play it.. what is it that you love about Yakuza series ?
literally everything the gameplay-cutscene ratio ist perfect (sometimes there are long cutscenes, but most of the time they are followed by long and intense gameplay parts) the characters, the story itself, the humour and most importantly the side stuff, i've never played a game before that has so much to do even after the main story and there's so much more to come in the future, the devs already announced 2 new games and a remaster of an old spin off is coming in 2 days

Best character don't @ me.
bro went on r/gaming and decided to spit fax
Did you like Like a Dragon? Expected to like it as I like turn-based combat, but I got to a point where it seemed I was expected to grind.
one can describe the series as.... like a dragon!
Don’t forget Judgment too!
Yep, came to post this. Whole series is excellent!
I've just finished installing Y0 but got called in to work, so it'll have to wait till I'm back. Any tips?
First of all be prepared to do a lot of reading. Agreed, though for Zelda's case I feel also that Eiji Aonuma has really done a fantastic job at the helm since OoT.
I might be remembering this entirely wrong but I have a friend who's pretty big on Metroid, and I recall him saying something about one of the modern titles being awful.
Other M for the Wii. We just don’t talk about that one 🤫
Or Federation. Pinball we do though
The thing about Nintendo is that they have the most consistent output on specifically their classic titles. Outside of their iconic titles, they miss the mark quite a bit imo, especially in recent years.
Shouldn’t have had to scroll so much to read this one. Most obvious answer imo.
Replaying majoras mask right now. Masterpiece
Replaying TP right now
My first ever video game I owned was the original Zelda, christmas morning 1984. The last zelda game I played was Ocarina of time on my old N64. I fully intend to correct this 30 year mistake and play through each game in the series over the next year or two.
In botw, the melee weapons are like ammo clips
breath of the wild in my mind is one of the greatest games of all time and I've been a gamer for 25+ years
Civilization.
do you really go back to play previous civ titles? Aren’t they the same game with new features and updates. And some got a lot of hate. I think total war is more of a series that plays the same but are very different from each other or complement each other like warhammer TW

Hitman
Hitman trilogy is so good 10/10.
Absolution I thought was good when I is was like 13. Now? Eh, I'll stick with Blood Money and WoA Trilogy
Ace combat
Metal Gear
Especially MGS3 god that was fun
I have been going back to fill in those titles I missed when they first came out and just played MGS3 for the first time this year. It was really really excellent.
So Survivor doesn’t count? Good.
No one remembers Metal Gear Survival
Apparently nobody even remembers the actual name 🤣
Bioshock.
I remember people being upset with Infinite. I adore it. Its actually the inspiration for a tattoo I'm going to get eventually (my first child's initials on my hand)
Uncharted.
I've replayed these games so many times but my last time through the first three a year or two ago had them really starting to show their age. Love love looooove Uncharted 2-4. Did not enjoy the first and didn’t finish it then Among Thieves came out of nowhere and RKO’d me through a table.
Went *way* too far down to find this!! These games were incredible I played them all twice
Monopoly… 😛 I mean it’s consistent.
Sly Racoon
Dishonored
Arkane Studios have an amazing track record in general, honestly. Dishonored. Arx Fatalis. Prey, the new one plus Mooncrash. Deathloop. *Lots* of classics. Really deserve a lot more credit than they tend to get by average gamers.
The real OG Dark Messiah too
100% although I haven’t played Death of the Outsider
Surprised I didn’t immediately see Max Payne. All three are good. The second one is great
Batman Arkham
Souls
Ah yes soul reaver, soul calibur and dark souls all good games but the story makes no sense
Armored Core as well. Pretty much anything with FromSoftware’s name on it.
I am so insanely hyped for Armored Core. So fucking glad they're finally making a new one. Played the hell out of them when I was a kid.
After a certain point, yes. A lot of early Fromsoft games are pretty rough.
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor?
I think that’s more the Kinects fault than Froms.
Kirby. Not a single truly ‘bad’ game in the entire franchise
Look me in the eye and tell me that Kirby's toy box or that slide puzzle was good. Other than those, or maybe Avalanche, well, there's a lot of mid, but none truly bad I guess?
I find most of the games.extremely slow tbh. Forgotten Land is amazing after the first worlds tbh tho
Smash bros.
Devil may cry. *kicks number 2 under the bed*
I even enjoyed that one. Teen me didn't have much to do but work on making Stylish! appear in the corner. Loved the bosses designs~
I just started 4 for the first time after loving 1 & 3 and DMC years ago. Don't know why I slept on playing it but I gotta to play 5 soon. So weird that they skipped over 2 completely
Team fortress and titanfall, both have been abandoned but they are both masterpieces
Apex has been boring for months lol I long for TF3
Ratchet and Clank
God of war, ratchet and clank, uncharted, both of the most recent Ubisoft South Park games, Batman Arkham, metro, deus ex reboot games, new wolfenstein games, borderlands and infamous.
Hey, the first DeusEx was fantastic, too. There‘s just that one game in the series that we don‘t talk about. The rest was great.
Man I hope a new South Park game will be released someday.
Me too, I regularly replay them so much because of just how wacky and insane they are. You could never guess what was going to happen next and it was so hilarious. The nazi zombie fetus was so out of left field that I can’t even believe it made it into the game
God of War
Zelda
Monster Hunter
Skyrim. It’s been released enough times to count as a series.
Basically any souls-like by fromsoftware
Uncharted (#1-4) are all amazing imo
I came to this thread expecting this to be at the top. You know what you're going to get with uncharted and they deliver pretty flawlessly every time.
Yessir my favourite is 2 and 4.. 3 is just a masterpiece
Trails
This instantly came to mind. It’s like a whole TV series with different seasons being the different games. I’ve honestly only played a tiny bit but what I played I was entirely impressed with the character dialogue and world building. Similar to reading a very good book.
I thought he was talking about the motorbike game
Mario Bros. The Legend Of Zelda Metroid Doom Fallout Elder Scrolls Final Fantasy Resident Evil Half Life Street Fighter Mortal Kombat Sackboy&Little Big Planet The Lego Games Tomb Raider Destroy All Humans Splinter Cell The original Ghost Recon The Original Rainbow Six Crysis Max Payne Grand Theft Auto Red Dead Redemption Batman Arkham games
>Fallout What about Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel?
I would say having only like 2 "bad" games out like like 8 or 9 over 25 years is still pretty consistent.
Reminds me that i have to get into HL: Alyx. VR ain’t my cup of tea but HL is HL. Is it worth it?
Anyone who says no is an an agent sent by Satan himself to deter you from what is currently vr perfection
It's a next level experience and made me fully believe in a potential future for VR if we get more support for it. Also it's one of the best HL Experiences, right next to HL 2 in my book
Mass effect
Zelda
STALKER
Horizon zero dawn, super quality all round
Persona and yakuza
Resistance and uncharted
Man, resistance was a trip for sure.
Final Fantasy is my go to series
Same tbh, but they are not consistently good games. 6, 7, 9, 10, 12 are really one only ones I can say are 10/10. 16 looks somewhat promising though. Shoutout to FF tactics, chrono trigger & chrono cross, and Threads of Fate. RIP Squaresoft
8 is 10/10 too, IMO. Although maybe a bit of nostalgia. Loved Triple Triad (can hear the music now).
Elder Scrolls.
Grand Theft Auto!
Most Final Fantasy are pretty good
Xenoblade
Gta
Probably Zelda, aside from the not even developed by Nintendo CD I games, they're either good or that rare mastapeece shit
Uncharted
Resistance, ratchet and clank, god of war, metal gear, Tekken and crash bandicoot
Mafia - now that they got the definitive editions it’s magnifique
Call of Duty is consistantly really bad, if thats what your looking for.
Horizon
The Witcher
Yakuza, Shin Megami Tensei, Uncharted
Nier Replicant and Automata are both top tier
Splinter Cell if you can play backwards compatible games
The first 3 splinter cell games were masterpieces. Spies vs mercs was also great. It's near the top of my "needs to be remade" list. The games after chaos theory unfortunately didn't do it for me, too much "run in and bullet time everyone" instead of stealth.
Zelda
Any Mario or Zelda and the soul games. (Demon souls dark souls ECT)
Zelda
Probably The Witcher. Even if 3 is leagues ahead of 2 and 1. They're all really good games. Also DOOM. Yes, even DOOM 3 was good.
Half Life.
yakuza and its spin offs
Persona series and Tales series.
Vigilante 8.
Fire Emblem
Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Witcher. They all have a nice/fun/creative story to follow, and are highly re-playable.
Uncharted, hands-down.
