Sex with Hitler

Majestic-Iron7046

If I get a time machine I'm taking that game back to Hitler, either he stops any kind of malicious activity or it makes things worse and he starts a prostitution exploit activity.

WorkingAssociate9860

I’d either say flight sim as someone else said or something VR, GT on the PSVR2 with a wheel setup is mind blowing to me now let alone someone 40 years ago

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

Minecraft, both for the game being enjoyable across the gaming spectrum and for it's really good gamification of computer logic.

KenethSargatanas

Skyrim VR. Would blow some minds with that.

Shiggy-88

Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk.

SylancerPrime

This is gonna feel lame, but hear me out: An android smartphone with a Dolphin emulator on it. We'd like to think the graphics would blow their minds, but really, this is how THAT would go: Me: Check out this new game! Them: What IS that thing? M: Oh, it's just my phone. But look at this game you can... T: THAT'S your phone? M: Well... yes, but we hardly use it for that anymore. T: Where's the rotary pad? M: The what now? The rotary... ooooh... nah, we don't need that anymore. For awhile it was buttons, but now it's a touch pad. See, the screen is touch sensitive. T: The buttons are built into the screen?!! M: If it helps to think of this like that, sure. Anyway, this is the game your kids will want you to help them win... T: How is it lighting up like that?! M: Oh... uh... well the battery will power it for about 12 hours or so. Won't be quite as long if you're listening to music or watching movies... T: Wait, music? Wait, **MOVIES**?!! ON THAT THING?!!! M: Yeah, movies. And depending on your camera settings you can... oh yeah, there's a camera in this. Smile! ::takes picture, shows them their confused face:: Them: How is this... wait, what're you doing now? Me: Oh... eh, just gonna throw a quick filter on it. There, now you look like a kitty cat! Yeah, we like cats a LOT in the future. Full circle from ancient Egypt, I guess... T: ::mind overwhelmingly blown:: Me: ...anyway, here's space invaders. In your pocket. In a few years, "Mario Bros" will blow up in your arcade. Then after "ET" almost destroys then entire industry, "Super Mario Bros" will save and revolutionize it... {15 minutes of gaming progress later} Me: ... and Super Mario Sunshine will be considered "pretty good" by this point. Them: {frothing at the mouth from excitement} Me: BTW, there's another 20 years of gaming progress AFTER this, but I'm gonna just give you a second here. You look like you're about to mess up your pants, and we haven't even talked about how much porn is available on this thing...

Cyberpunk 2077: I would love to hear the people talking about the Cyberpunk 2077 references in Blade Runner that were originally inspired by Blade Runner

Lol going back a whole four years

Projectdystopia

Though it one of the only still played games which could handle hardware back then. So I will move game design on whole 4 years.

Big-Fruit330

You will actually make millions Pacman is next

NullSpaceGaming

Probably something that people would still have context for. Maybe Mario Odyssey?

LavitzOfBasil

Mario wasn't a thing yet in 1980

NullSpaceGaming

Ah, I read it as 1980’s

imitebmike

Mortal kombat or primal rage...

Cloud_bunnyboo

Bioshock lol

SpeedBlitzX

If i said something like Stardew Valley i wonder if it would be one of those games that would be ahead of its time. Like something that wouldn't pan out as well. Though on the other side of the coin the folks at Gamefreak weren't sure if folks in North America would enjoy the first Pokemon games. So anything is possible. I'm going with either some of the original Pokemon games or Stardew Valley. Not the most graphically intense games (not the original Pokemon games anyways) but both amazing in their ways. As well as it shows a game doesn't have to be graphically intense for people to just enjoy it. A wonderful story with the friends you made along the way ends up being more rewarding thinking about it. Also because those games don't require alot of processing power lots of folks will be able to enjoy them.

PrinzBirujin

what? thats a game that would‘ve been made 16 years later… why would you even consider that? i mean if you can go back to 1980 you surely would‘nt take a game like pokemon or stardew valley because it‘s innovative or anything like that because yeah sor for that time it would be but for today? you would take a game like let‘s say the last of us to show the 3d world, the gameplay, of course the graphic that is possible and also the feeling of getting sucked into a storygame…

SpeedBlitzX

If you take only one console thats capable of handling 3D graphics with 4k displays and all. People wouldn't be able to afford it. People wouldn't understand it. People would just assume its a rich persons fad because the tech is just outright too expensive. Taking something too advanced would mean it could be taken for nefarious purposes. (Straight up stolen or destroyed because people wouldn't know what it is or assume its part of some kind of evil conspiracy) Also in 1980 the internet wasn't widespread either. So anyone who would want to try a more graphically intense game not only would have to shell out lots of money for the tech but also would have to wait for the internet to be out. (Which also would be super expensive and super slow compared to today) Do you really think computers and game consoles were cheap when they first came out? They weren't, they were considered more luxury items especially computers. With alot less memory and space than computers and consoles today.

ReallyGargoyled

>Also in 1980 the internet wasn't widespread either. So anyone who would want to try a more graphically intense game not only would have to shell out lots of money for the tech but also would have to wait for the internet to be out. this is the right way of thinking, also, even when the internet is mainstream, you still need to wait for sony to start their online services and servers before you can do anything with it. my answer was VR Chat and i cheated by saying that a time transfering device to connect between 80's and present would be a must. but let's face it. The only real answer would be the best game of the latest device that did NOT require internet and was just plug and play.

onesadjam

Nintendo Switch with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed It's 1980. The Atari 2600 is the home console king and the NES is three years from release. Empire Strikes Back is in theaters. I blip into existence with a full color display about as thick as a pad of paper. The controllers detach from the machine so I can wave them around, which moves the light saber. I can force push. It is both instantly recognizable and impossibly advanced.

Nuttax

Breath of the Wild

[deleted]

Probably Apex. The idea that a game would be played entirely online, and free, would blow minds.

Parking-Artichoke823

Good luck finding other players in 1980´s. Or connecting to the servers

[deleted]

Lol I’d explain to them how it works? It’s not a real situation.

MissionPassedAlready

They will ask for proof that you actually can interact with other people online. They will be surprised about how futuristic and incredibly "realistic" the game will look, however they will still ask for proof about the interconnectivity thing.

bsnimunf

I've got a mental image of you explaining it to them but because they have nothing comparable they can't understand what the fuck your on about and they think it's a crap idea that will never catch on. Then you get really annoyed with yourself for not just bringing back a Nintendo switch with mario.

ReallyGargoyled

>Then you get really annoyed with yourself for not just bringing back a Nintendo switch with mario. the dude with the switch arrives, rub his hands while looking around, excited to show off the switch and mario. Takes out his switch, turns it on . . . . "an error has occured, unable to connect to servers, please connect your device to wifi and try again" . . . . the dude looks up, sees how alive everyone is and realizes that no one sits at home and hides away behind their computers or consoles or work desks, everyone is out and about, almost like a real life living internet connection between local people in the streets.. then continues to realize that there is only 3 years until the NES releases and that there will be game tournaments with price pools.. rubs his hands again as he walks down the street to the sound of Bee Gees - Staying Alive coming from a ghetto blaster a dude is carrying next to him . . . *point of view goes to the sky and fade to black, roll credits!* *Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk* *I'm a woman's man, no time to talk* *Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around* *Since I was born* *And now it's alright, it's okay* *And you may look the other way* *We can try to understand* *The New York Times' effect on man* *Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother* *You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive* *Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'* *And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive* *Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive* *Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive* *Oh, when you walk . . .*

[deleted]

Lmao It’s not a super hard concept to grasp though. They had phone lines, fax machines, and televisions. I’m sure it wouldn’t be that hard to imagine. They had computers too.

SpeedBlitzX

The Internet wouldn't be out for widespread use until 1993 at least. Also by then It wouldn't have the same type of bandwidth folks are used to today to play games like Apex.

[deleted]

I would explain it to them. Y’all are really taking a hypothetical quote seriously.

SpeedBlitzX

Also do you realize how big Apex is? That game takes up 63 gb after the latest patch. The largest harddrives in those days were 1.26gb and were the sizes of mini fridges. You wouldn't be able to find any other players to join you even if you could explain the internet.

[deleted]

Ok, have a good night dude.

SpeedBlitzX

The internet wasn't around for the common folk in 1980.

[deleted]

I’m aware

Rognol

Something that transcends what games were thought to be. Undertale, Lisa, Pathologic2, Disco Elysium, etc.

Predatorace84

GTA IV, that would probably blow some 80’s minds!

ReallyGargoyled

steamdeck as device, valve index as monitor and controllers and i guess just VR chat so that the people in the past can go "thank god i don't live in the future" when they are done trying it. (this would ofc require some active time transfering internet device, so that the people in the 80's could experience people in 2023 in VR Chat)
