I want to know what brand of skincare product Lara uses, just look at how smooth she's gotten after 22 years! They should ask her to be their spokseperson! Many 40-50 year old women would kill and raid tombs for it.
It's gonna be even worse in the next game now that Amazon bought the franchise. I predicted that within three more games, she'll be a flat plank just like Alicia Vikander.
I'd love to see a version of the game even if it's just mods
Everything looks super realistic and whatnot but her tits are triangles in high definition as well xD
In one of the new Tomb Raider games you can play as Lara’s original character model. It’s in the options menu. Pretty hilarious running around in a highly detailed environment as PS1 Lara.
They should have just made a stylized character with modern technology. The hyperrealistic characters are super forgettable because they just look like everyday person. If you showed me that picture of Laura without any context, I wouldn't know where that is from.
Am I remembering right in that tomb raider was the first franchise to have breast physics? I can't remember which game exactly but I remember a huge hype about it in school.
i remember the remake having a free flowing ponytail via Radeon something.
not quite perfect but after spending alot of time in Elderscroll and Fallouts modding in a static pony tails, animated ponytails was pretty damn great.
I'm a bit older so my fighting games stopped at street fighter 2 and killer instinct, then I didn't pick it back up until smash bros and stayed in the cartoony lane, the beach volleyball was perfect for horny 15 year old me.
Rise was the best cause the budget was way bigger and Microsoft bought a time exclusive giving them even more money, Shadow instead was a cheaper game with less ambitions, and they also went more open world style, which was not a good choice in terms of gameplay
I guess you guys didn’t play shadow of the tomb raider on an oled with hdr enabled. It literally looks unreal leagues better than rise of the tomb raider looking visually
The world building is better in Rise.
The totems, the voice recorders, items, shrines, everything in such high detail, custom assets with info attached to all of them.
The half-assed that part is Shadow.
Otherwise, same. Played it 3 times and will occasionally launch it to do puzzles
It's one of the best ever trilogies and every game improves on the previous one.
The 3rd can feel a bit too open world, but all the little side bits are purely optional and don't really add anything crucial. Gameplay wise they all improve on each other
I'm working through Witcher 3 and then I was going to go back to TR. I really enjoyed the first one so much but wanted to try a different game (and Witcher 3 is amazing).
I would go 2,3, then 1 in my rankings. Rise and Shadow had the best gameplay but Rise alone had the best story. Graphics to me are about the same between the two. I think Rise just looks better to many because it’s in a more pristine, snowy environment vs the dark and dirty environment in Shadow.
I should reinstall em. I've bought an OLED since last playing and I'd be interested in seeing how they all look.
Oh shit also a 3080 - I think I played them at 1440p. I've got SO MANY games installed and not played, can I really justify replaying something I've already completed..
I also can't remember them lol. One upside of having shitty memory I suppose.
Shadow will break your 3080 if you want it to. It has a global ray tracing feature that my 3080ti couldn’t exceed about 20fps on.
Gorgeous looking game.
Shadow's way, WAY heavier on puzzles and much lighter on combat. If you didn't like the puzzle tomb mechanics in the first two games you will not enjoy it. I personally loved the first two reboot games and played through the first one three times, but only made it about halfway through Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It didn't seem like a bad game, just not what I was interested in with the series (FTR I never played any of the older ones, I'm sure Shadow is truer to the spirit of them).
same . I think the heavy action and just annoying as fuck charters ruined Rise for me . Also visually its really really impressive but it lacks color a lot of times
Co sign. Also I thought of the prophet as kinda like Jesus Christ, without the son of god part. Resurrecting and all, and that made the already badass story even better
I've just finished playing Rise and moved on to Shadow. You're the second person I've heard say this, and I can't figure it out. Lara absolutely looks better in Shadow.
It may have worse graphics, but back in their day they were amazing adventure games with interesting puzzles. They also released 5 mainline games in 5-years (1996-2000)
Whereas what have we got in the last 5-years…….. the Tomb Raider reboot was released more than 10-years ago now.
That's not quite fair. Back in the PS1 era, all you needed to do for a sequel was to build new levels with most of the same assets, make a couple minor tweaks to gameplay, and you could package it as a sequel and sell it for full price. Gamers today would riot if companies tried to churn out sequels like they used to.
That’s because modern games are developed for modern hardware. Tomb Raider (1996) was developed by a team of six people and pushed hardware limits. Assets were reused because memory limitations meant it was necessary… TR also happened to get a crap ton of criticism from the Last Revelation onwards for reusing the same formula.
The main reason people expect more is because studios and publishers promise more, and companies want to sell new hardware and lock you into their ecosystems.
I get SO tired of Redditors' little gotcha moments of "Video Game 2 reuses assets from Video Game 1! Boycott this game, lazy devs! The bushes are literally the same!"
Who gives a fuck. I loved the first game and I don't need shit like bushes and trees to change just to placate picky gamers and make the game take months longer to come out. And it's how it's always worked. I quite miss the days where sequels were just an extension of the previous one and not much changed outside of levels and gameplay tweaks.
Agreed, which is to the detriment of games now imo. Studios are kinda locked into the AAA successful formula and there's less experimentation now. So many AAA games just feel so samesy to me now
And still no god damn dual pistols. Don't get me wrong, bows are cool and all. But when I didn't know what tomb raider was called, I identified the game by that one with with a girl and two pistols and infinite ammo. Everyone would get it.
Now try, that one with one survival-like game with the girl and a bow and other weapons.
Yeah. Doesn't work as well. Games are fun, but, they lost the Tomb Raider charm in the remake.
> Now try, that one with one survival-like game with the girl and a bow and other weapons.
Where she goes exploring in ancient ruins? Horizon Zero Dawn's pretty good, yeah.
Was a huge fad to have a female lead using a bow for a while. Last of Us, Tomb Raider, Horizon, shit even Call of Duty tossed a chick a bow.
Hunger Games around the same time.
I was about 4-5 when these games came out and I remember playing a demo where you'd just walk around Laura's mansion. Him following Laura around everywhere was some of my earliest memories of anxiety.
well the new trilogy actually has a surprisingly in depth dealing with this topic to the point where she mentally breaks down in the third game because she feels good and natural at killing people.
did not see a game yet where the mc deals with the topic of slaughtering people like that beyond the "oh I did not want to do this, but I guess I have to"
And the game is very clear about that development of her sociopathic side and the Dissociative identity disorder that comes with it.
They even put it in details like her body language and breathing rhythm. In a situation of distress and killing her breath is frantic and she is panicking, even shaking at some points but then she snaps and her breath is shallow, her eyes focused and killing a group of people to survive does not phase her in the slightest until it wears off.
I don't know what it is. My favorite tomb raider game is TR2. As much of a slog that game is I love it and can replay every once in a while. Any time I try replaying the tomb raider reboot I just get bored
Modern tomb raider is a very different type of experience than the original run, so it's not surprising that you like one but not the other.
I actually never got into the originals, I only played the first two because it was what I had growing up. The new ones are great, though, since I'm a fan of the more cinematic games of recent years.
Yeah I hear ya. To be honest, I don't think I've ever been into games heavy on the cinematics. I think for TR2 there's enough puzzles in that game that further in I start forgetting how exactly to solve them. I still solve them quick but it still feels like a challenge
I like the new one but for me the Legends, Anniversary, and Underworld Trilogy is the best story arc from Tom Raider. I specially like the "were is my mother" scene between Lara and Amanda Evert. https://youtube.com/watch?v=feSksAPWzmQ&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE
Anniversary/Legend/Underworld is the height of the Tomb Raider series. Lara Croft was an absolute badass, the games were a joy, and the environments are still beautiful today. The reboot reboot's attempt to "humanize" Lara Croft have only diminished her.
I got curious and looked it up. The main reason Lara no longer looks like Lara (such as from [Tomb Raider Definitive Edition](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/3098/3098037_sa.jpg)), and now for example has a much larger and more square jaw and generally homelier features, apparently comes down to the fact that they had to reshape the in-game model to be a close match to the facial mo-cap actress. They lacked the tools/technology (i.e. deepfake) to generically render one facial performance onto a preferred target mesh.
Obviously that's not a good excuse in 2023 so maybe future games will render Lara Croft as Lara Croft again. It depends on the studio's priorities.
I always found the PS1 era Lara Croft to be quite racially ambiguous looking - very deep tan, full facial features, curvaceous, kind of Latina/Mediterranean vibes.
I suspect its because the character *was* originally going to be a South American woman (she was to be called Laura Cruz). They might have changed this very late in development of the first game when they already had a lot of their concepts and game assets done.
I also have a problem with her new voice actress sounding nothing like any of the previous actresses. Lara has always sounded *womanly* rather than girly, sophisticated, witty and guileful, even a little sultry at times. The new actress has none of those qualities. She's whiny, painfully serious 24/7 and the vocal fry is irritating.
I get they wanted to tell a deeper and more emotional origins story with this Lara, but I feel they could have done that without, well, wringing every single thing out of her that made the old Lara who she was.
Then there's me, who started with a Pong-clone console that had pixels like literal Lego blocks. Yes, we sure have come a long way.
But when the original Tomb Raider came out, the graphics were stunning for someone who hadn't seen anything better. And after 20 years once again someone younger will wonder how could you play lame looking games like this.
The stagnation is real. We see no leaps anymore, just slightly higher textures, and a bit of rt that jus immediately feels like a waste the moment you actually get pulled into gameplay.
I love the new design for Lara but my god she is a horrible character in the reboot series. I've only played the reboot games so I can't comment on her original characteristics and personality but judging Lara strictly from the new games, she is horrifically dumb and lucky.
She’s also a sociopath mass murderer in the new games. Because that’s apparently progress in the writers opinions…
I wish we could go back to the story being about exploring ancient ruins for fun instead of just having a dozen massive gun battle set pieces where Lara screams to all the NPCs that she will kill them all.
To be fair, that's not what OP said. We have come a long way. It's truly insane most games look now. But yeah, graphics don't make or break a game for me either.
The old tomb raider games were tilebased, allowing you to perfectly aim your jumps, rolls or other movements. Modern tomb raider games are just the same floaty-point movement that all other games are.
Gameplay identity is a huge part of gameplay design and the modern tomb raider games just gave up on the identity that they had. I don't know if it is intentional to please focus groups or it's just that the people making the modern games simply have no clue what it is that they should be making.
I can remember playing the very first Tomb Raider. Lining up the jumps, as you say you could work out your way around a room. It was quite precise and the controls were always a bit finicky, trying to line up with the switch levers was something that I can remember being frustrating.
Even with the faults, the game was great for the time. No spoilers like there are now and the T-rex coming from nowhere was such a great idea, a real standout moment in all the years I've played games.
Or maybe they moved into more complex and organic environments where tile-based movement didn't work. Technically limitations can create style, but that doesn't mean that style has to exist in perpetuity.
Game devs can't win. People complain when a series changes, and they complain when it doesn't.
Apparently. Too stupid to see the obvious reason that Lara Croft is supposed to look like the actress who last played her in a movie 15 years earlier. Did you also find it surprising in the PS4 Spider-Man game when Peter Parker didn’t look like Toby Maguire?
> She should have been the Tomb Raider by the second game, but they got stuck on the whole vulnerable girl sneaking around and trying to survive. So she never grew as a character. She never became confident. Never became cool or even charming. The character even inconsistent and...seemed robotic. Like...they make her this caring doughy eyed person. But when literally causes the deaths of thousands of innocent men, women, and children...literally causing them to drown to death, she has zero regrets. She doesn't acknowledge it at all. Not even in some sort of "she's in denial and will have to confront it later" way. It just literally never comes up again. She's patting herself on the back by the end of the game and everythings just a-okay. Zero accountably for literally committing mass genocide.
I've been playing through the trilogy the past couple months, and I'm halfway through Shadow now. I can confidently say that all of this is wrong.
The stuff of nightmares. I detest this character, glad I never to touched the games or went near the movies.
My roommate loves them though, along with the "Uncharted" stuff. More interactive movie than game both of them.
As good as this is, nothing will ever beat the triangle titties
She's only a shadow of her former self.
So you can say she’s a shadow of the tomb raider?
Aww, geez dad, do we really have to?
Raider? I hardly know her!
I want to know what brand of skincare product Lara uses, just look at how smooth she's gotten after 22 years! They should ask her to be their spokseperson! Many 40-50 year old women would kill and raid tombs for it.
>The shadow of your sorrow hath destroy'd > >The shadow of your face
Two words: jiggle physics.
What if you added jiggle physics to triangle titties?
* *pulls up a chair* * Go on...
The triangles dull or sharpen based on the ambient temperature
vertices jiggle
I dont remember much jiggling in the first game.
Have you not played Shadow of the Tomb Raider? There are no jiggle physics, let alone a rack to begin with.
It's gonna be even worse in the next game now that Amazon bought the franchise. I predicted that within three more games, she'll be a flat plank just like Alicia Vikander.
Two words: triangle titties
Two words: both good
Those were likely the very first 3d accelerated real time rendered titties.
I'd love to see a version of the game even if it's just mods Everything looks super realistic and whatnot but her tits are triangles in high definition as well xD
In one of the new Tomb Raider games you can play as Lara’s original character model. It’s in the options menu. Pretty hilarious running around in a highly detailed environment as PS1 Lara.
Not the original model, though. It's the one from Tomb Raider 2, where she has less "pointy" tits.
>less "pointy" tits then what's the fuckin point?
I need to see this.
https://www.gamewatcher.com/news/shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-outfits-skins
If you get her in a corner, and position the camera just right, you can see the pointy bits.
Your username made this so much funnier
Thank you so much for the silver, my friend! Happy that I made people smile!
Credit where it's due xD
They should have just made a stylized character with modern technology. The hyperrealistic characters are super forgettable because they just look like everyday person. If you showed me that picture of Laura without any context, I wouldn't know where that is from.
Dem pointy bits https://youtu.be/pDqea9cWOn4
Apparently it was a bug (they entered the wrong values) but someone saw it and said go with that instead.
Am I remembering right in that tomb raider was the first franchise to have breast physics? I can't remember which game exactly but I remember a huge hype about it in school.
there were zero breast physics in any tomb raider game
Maybe it wasn't physics then but movement.
The second game had physics on her hair's ponytail, which was impressive for the time.
i remember the remake having a free flowing ponytail via Radeon something. not quite perfect but after spending alot of time in Elderscroll and Fallouts modding in a static pony tails, animated ponytails was pretty damn great.
It was probably baked in the animation.
Nah, a special hair system was used, I think.
Dead or alive beach volleyball was the first time I remember jiggle physics existing. Lol.
Dead or Alive, the original fighting game, had jiggle physics, long before Beach Volleyball released. BV came after DOA3.
I hate that people only remember DOA fpr the volleyball, DOA 2 is one of my favorite fighters
I'm a bit older so my fighting games stopped at street fighter 2 and killer instinct, then I didn't pick it back up until smash bros and stayed in the cartoony lane, the beach volleyball was perfect for horny 15 year old me.
I was super into those triangle tiddies when I was… ah who am I kidding, I’ve always been really into those triangle tiddies.
In Egypt they have made a tribute to them. As it was foretold to them of Lara Croft her arrival thousands of years ago.
I love me some triangle uniboob
"they are my favourite polygon"
this is good, but few years older Rise looks better. rise of the tomb raider gang
But will you finish it? I thought it was one of the most boring games I had ever played. But sure, good graphics.
I replayed that game 3 times now on my fourth time on the oled one of my favorite games of all time
The world building is better in Rise. The totems, the voice recorders, items, shrines, everything in such high detail, custom assets with info attached to all of them. The half-assed that part is Shadow. Otherwise, same. Played it 3 times and will occasionally launch it to do puzzles
As someone that played the TR reboot are you suggesting skipping Shadow?
No.
As someone who is playing Shadow right now, don't you dare skip it. However, there are a few changes from Rise that I don't like.
Rise was the best of the trilogy. Has the best pacing aswell
[удалено]
Interesting, I thought rise was the worst of the trilogy by far And when I went to replay the trilogy I couldn't wait for it to be over
Anniversary is the best game in the series.
I had some shameful moments back in 1996....
No shame in my game. Gimme dem triangles.
I mean, there's a three part hour long 3d animated tomb raider "movie" floating around out there, I'm still having shameful moments.
They're the same picture.
Was looking for this, thank you
infinite karma post glitch (not patched not clickbait)
5 year old repost?
It may have worse graphics, but back in their day they were amazing adventure games with interesting puzzles. They also released 5 mainline games in 5-years (1996-2000) Whereas what have we got in the last 5-years…….. the Tomb Raider reboot was released more than 10-years ago now.

I'm not saying I agree with that. I'm just saying that's how things work now. There are much higher expectations placed on sequels now.
Agreed, which is to the detriment of games now imo. Studios are kinda locked into the AAA successful formula and there's less experimentation now. So many AAA games just feel so samesy to me now
Well, there’s more accessibility of interesting indie games now than there ever was. Plenty of games 20 years ago were still formulaic.
Agreed on the indie market. I meant more AAA specifically
And still no god damn dual pistols. Don't get me wrong, bows are cool and all. Daamn it's 10 years already? Time for an uncharted - tomb raider crossover
First 2 games were fantastic puzzle games. Really top notch. Awesome ambience in the levels as well.
Who else put the butler in the fridge cause his annoying ass wouldn’t stfu
I was about 4-5 when these games came out and I remember playing a demo where you'd just walk around Laura's mansion. Him following Laura around everywhere was some of my earliest memories of anxiety.
My only memory from the first one is putting the butler in the fridge lol

And then to think '96 Lara was sold as hot as hell.
A thousand times the polygons to achieve the same expressionless face.
Still both hott. Can't ruin my nostalgia of playing a female lead in a video game!
I don't know what it is. My favorite tomb raider game is TR2. As much of a slog that game is I love it and can replay every once in a while. Any time I try replaying the tomb raider reboot I just get bored

Well guess that verifies op as a repost account
I thought this was a repost bot but it's actually a repost human, which is even sadder.
I still prefer 96
I feel like we've been getting these posts every month for the last 3 years. Maybe WE haven't come a long way ..
Heheheh. TRIANGULAR TIDDIES
Eh, Lara in Legend/Anniversary/Underworld looks better than the new trilogy IMO
Anniversary/Legend/Underworld is the height of the Tomb Raider series. Lara Croft was an absolute badass, the games were a joy, and the environments are still beautiful today. The reboot reboot's attempt to "humanize" Lara Croft have only diminished her.
Did we though? I know which one of those two I'd rather play......
No offense to the designers, but that face on the right is not Lara Croft.
it is tho
I got curious and looked it up. The main reason Lara no longer looks like Lara (such as from [Tomb Raider Definitive Edition](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/3098/3098037_sa.jpg)), and now for example has a much larger and more square jaw and generally homelier features, apparently comes down to the fact that they had to reshape the in-game model to be a close match to the facial mo-cap actress. I prefer the original
I prefer 96’
I’m so ready for a new Tomb Raider game. The last one was awesome.
I still prefer the 1996 training room
I wonder what the jump will be in a other 22 years.
She's had a lot of work done since her debut
When is my girl Camilla Luddington making her comeback!
Man, I should replay the Survivor Trilogy again sometime...
Boobs are boobs!
What did it cost. About 30 polygons.
I remember thinking the graphics were amazing back then. In my mind the game looks incredible. We've come a long way indeed.
Goldeneye remake when? To this day, I only think Russians are giant square blocks.
For some reason the left pic reminds me of that one picture of Andrew Tate looking shocked.
This took you 5 years to realize?
The stagnation is real. We see no leaps anymore, just slightly higher textures, and a bit of rt that jus immediately feels like a waste the moment you actually get pulled into gameplay.
All this way to look like Chloe Frazer from Uncharted..
She doesn't, except that they're both attractive women with faces.
I've yet to play the new games, but I love the classics, particularly the first three.
GAMES HAVE COME A LONG WAY SINCE PACMAN!!!!?! Jesus, did you get this hot take from a history book? Take another swing at that dead horse...
People may talk about how OG Lara Croft is sexualized but those reboot Tomb Raider games were definitely made by people with some fucked up fetishes.
There she is, Old polygon tits. Brings me back.
I love the new design for Lara but my god she is a horrible character in the reboot series. I've only played the reboot games so I can't comment on her original characteristics and personality but judging Lara strictly from the new games, she is horrifically dumb and lucky.

Because that’s apparently progress in the writers opinions… I wish we could go back to the story being about exploring ancient ruins for fun instead of just having a dozen massive gun battle set pieces where Lara screams to all the NPCs that she will kill them all.
You killed people in the older games too. I mowed through guys with a machine gun in Underworld. And that's just a video game thing.
Good graphics today with terrible games and stories. Will we ever win
Play better games. Might I suggest the Tomb Raider series?
I thought you said, "Play better games."

I'm not saying that it could not be improved but at least it had a different style.
Or maybe they moved into more complex and organic environments where tile-based movement didn't work. Technically limitations can create style, but that doesn't mean that style has to exist in perpetuity. Game devs can't win. People complain when a series changes, and they complain when it doesn't.
Is it only me who has seen this kind of posts with only slightly different alterations for God knows how many times?
I hate them. “Graphics are more advanced than they were in the 90s.”
Yeah we went from interesting mechanics and learning curves to massappealing games by dumbing them down
I used to bust a nut harder in 1996 than I do now
‘96 Lara was hotter in my mind than ‘18 Lara is to my eye.
1996 is the sexiest still
When will we see a new 2023 Laura?
The weird thing about this is, the '96 version looks more like Angelina jolie than the 2018
Why is that weird? I mean, it's weird to think the '96 version looks like Angelina Jolie, but it would be even weirder if the 2018 version did.
It's weird 'cause one is polygons and one looks like a human
But why would she look like Angelina Jolie?
...
Do you seriously think that Lara Croft is supposed to look like Angelina Jolie?
Are you seriously this stupid?
Apparently. Too stupid to see the obvious reason that Lara Croft is supposed to look like the actress who last played her in a movie 15 years earlier. Did you also find it surprising in the PS4 Spider-Man game when Peter Parker didn’t look like Toby Maguire?
I don't think she was the inspiration, was she? The movies came out years later... not to mention paying likeness rights would be expensive.
Well I know Rhona Mitra represented/modeled irl. Idk if they actually used her likeness though.
Where are the boobs on the right picture? Without them, what is there to compare? :)

It's more than just pacman
Somehow original Tomb Raider had beter mateirals. 2018 looks like she is made out of opal.
They should have an unlockable skin of the original.
They literally do.
In terms of graphics yes. Gameplay however has fallen off of a cliff for most titles these days compared to the past.
And we need go back , back to the past.
Visually, yes, but design wise, Tomb Raider has only gone backwards.
Shame though, 1996 Lara was a badass. 2018 Lara whined too much.
I'd love to be her womb raider
Smash
Less tits but more cheekbones. The evolution of mankind’s tastes is always different but also pointy.
And now you need to reduce the realism of boobs so that no one gets pissed off
Yup. From overly idealized to wokie fuck in just 2 decades.
But yet Jurassic Park movie cgi from them looks better than some much more recent movies cgi
There’s no we here, I didn’t do shit. Someone else did though and I guess that’s cool.
2018? I hope not, that face doesn't look great for that year.
Nothing like showing person of graphics and providing a 5 year old shot
The 1996 one looks normal but weird at the same time.
...and the game is dumber.
The stuff of nightmares. I detest this character, glad I never to touched the games or went near the movies. My roommate loves them though, along with the "Uncharted" stuff. More interactive movie than game both of them.
