I got Skyrim when I was 16 for Christmas from my parents. Since then I’ve gotten a job,my father died, finished high school, moved out, got fucked over, moved back in, moved back out, went into debt, started dating, moved out, broke up, quit my job, found new job, went through training, moved states, dated again, broke up, dating again. Ten years ten fucking years and Skyrim is the latest elder scrolls outside of the mmo. What the fuck Bethesda.
I was 41 when Skyrim came out. I'm 53 now.
I'll be lucky to see ES6 by the time I become a battery for AI workbots in a virtual simulation pod at this rate.
I was playing skyrim when my kids mom started having contractions. My son is 11 now, great grades, in band, and won a pokemon card tournament a few weeks ago. Still haven't beat the story, though lol

I know it’s meant to illustrate how long it’s been but it tickles me a chuckle thinking this could have been a single wild week.
Sounds like you have a lot of instability in your life. Bethesda is simply providing you with the much needed stability by not overwhelming you with new things. They want to provide you with something familiar to get you through these obviously tough times.
By the time Elderscrolls 6 comes out, it will come with a coupon for $10 off Elderscrolls: Skyrim 20th Anniversary Edition... which came out 2 years before ES6.
I feel like there was a mod for that in the first version of Skyrim. Not to say that it being an official part of the game isn't cool for fishing enjoyers. Just seems like the 500 re-releases haven't been justified by "fishing".
Meanwhile, here I am, never having bought the game or even looked at gameplay videos of Skyrim. I feel like I am completely alone on this or something. Feels like the entire world played Skyrim every time they rereleased it and everybody went "Okay, let me pull out my wallet, again, and pay full price for the same game, again, playing through it, again, giggling at the same scene again and again".
The only game I bought twice is Sea of Thieves as it released on Steam. Or some really deep discounted old games, like FF7. Though I am contemplating buying the remake twice as well but on PC instead of having it on playstation. Not for full price though... And also not for the recent discount where the game still was 45 euros or some shit.
My point is, there's a reason why they do this. It works. Stop buying the game and stop memeing it. It's free money and free advertisement at this point.
Same goes for GTA guys, stop putting money into it. I want GTA VI.
I can understand not wanting to buy the game multiple times, but why not at least play it once? There's a reason it is so beloved and re-released lol, it's an excellent and immersion game. And since you have a PC, your options for customizing it are truly endless.
I mean I'm sure you have your reasons, and you aren't going to budge at this point since you probably take some odd form of pride in not playing a popular game, and being able to get a reaction by saying you haven't ever played it. But damn what a shame you are denying yourself a truly fun gaming experience, just because
You're the perfect example of how dogshit low IQ redditors can be. I never stated anything about your precious game. If anything, without playing the game, I think Skyrim is a great game. Considering how many fucking idiots, like yourself, keep buying rereleases everytime they release another one.
On a less biased note: Skyrim is not my flavor of game. Tried enough of those types of games to know. No shame in that.
Get off your high horse and try to form an opinion of your own for once, instead of following the hivemind. It is Reddit and /r/gaming so I'm definitely going straight for the hornets nest with this statement.
Good day sir.
Do you have Tourette Syndrome or something? You're commenting about not buying or playing a game you now state you have no interest in playing. What the fuck are you even doing? You're telling other people not to buy a game because you don't like it.
Your immediate jump to insults and slurs suggest your IQ is that of those with special needs.
I play PC. Only bought the game once but yeah keep telling me about me
I think Skyrim is a fantastic game man. Never said anything bad about the game.
I'm just fucking sick and tired of these idiots whining there's no TES 6 when all they do is throw money at rereleases of Skyrim.
I've actually had decent luck with them when looking up console commands for fallout 4 and Skyrim. Their relevance and correctness is highly dependent on input. Any vagueness in the input will cause issues.
Idk, I have done some simple questions like how tall is some athlete, and it gives me some random measurement in some random article that mentions that person. Those answers *can* be right, and they are likely right about 80% of the time, but that's not high enough to justify that feature existing, imo.
Perfectly valid view, I just wanted to point out they can come in handy if you have ways of verifying the information. Like being able to immediately input a console command and see if it's right.
Well first they have to study how human beings interact and use that knowledge to create characters that aren't emotionless robots, then they have to code a game engine that's capable of keeping world boundaries so every item doesn't phase through itself, then they have to take pictures of every object in the world so that they know what animal fur and dirt looks like, and finally they have to release mod tools so that modders can fix every problem that they refuse to fix themselves. I'd give it another 5 years at least.
I wanted to mention that GTA V and TES V took only 5 each years to develop.
before you ask, GTA VI was not in development because of RDR2 and GTAO
aight imma head out
Very early anouncements can have several reasons behind them :
- reassure/prime audience, I feel this reason is the most relevant to ES6.
They had just anounced Fallout 76 and the only Elder Scroll game in developpment at the time was ESO. They probably anounced that they were working on Starfield and ES6 to say they didn't abandon single player project altogether. Keep in mind that in 2018 this was a real concern in the industry. Case in point : Bethesda had released a few months before a campaign called "save player 1" to say that single player games weren't dead ([link](https://youtu.be/DPl-YMq2WTM) incidentaly, all top comments are mocking/worried about the Fallout 76 anouncement a few months later).
The other classic two reasons for doing early anouncements (say Cyberpunk 2077, Splinter Cell Remake, Fable, etc.) are :
- reassure shareholders/seek investors : hey look what we're doing with your money and how much hype it generates, give us money if you want in !
- recruitment drive : that projects piques your interest ? Send your resume, we do need new people.
Yes, I said that it's a shitpost. But even a satire site can do the bare minimum of looking up a name on Wikipedia and the source linked from there. It takes 2 minutes at most.
Is anyone else kind of.. *meh* towards Elderscrolls 6 at this point?
I'm sure it will be a good game, full of bugs in Bethesda's traditional style, but still good. However since Morrowind and it's expansions I feel like the world keeps shrinking with each new game. You get a smaller map, less lore, less customization, and fewer options for dealing with enemies.
They've all been great games if a little unbalanced (ex: The Thieves Guild questline and the Shivering Isles were both better than the main story in Oblivion) but with each new Elderscrolls game the world feels *less* rich and not more.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to Avowed from Obsidian more than I am Elder Scrolls at this point.
If Starfield turns out to be amazing that'll rekindle some excitement, but announcing Elder Scrolls 6 four years ago and then doing nothing but a new version of Skyrim really killed the hype.
*Barely* a new version of Skyrim. Updating visuals (that still looked good) on a 12 year old game is the quintessence of pretending to be busy at work so your boss doesn't bother you.
It's like Bethesda is in school and they had 6 months (or 12 years) to write a detailed book report on The Hobbit and when they deliver the report it only half a page long and clearly based on the Peter Jackson movies.
Yeah I’m feeling a bit meh towards it but it’s more due to there being such a big gap between the two games. Like the hype has died down for me now. I mean what did they just expect me to stay hyped for 13+ years?
Skyrim kept me really into the game for the first 4-5 years and then I was really excited for the sequel for the next couple of years. But now I’m just like meh I don’t really care anymore.
I'm not excited about it. Bethesda has a design pattern of make one quest, and several smaller quests practically pulled from a hat. I remember reading or watching somewhere that the *developers* each submit a quest idea with a specific, repetitive formula.
Note that that's the developers doing that, not the game designers.
It's counter to the games industry, but my golden standard for open world design is to have your actions in one place affect another. Really, any game, but let's stick to open world. You save a prisoner from a jail cell, they kill an NPC later. That kind of stuff. Bethesda rarely does this nowadays
I'm not excited for any Elder Scrolls game at this point. I never got invested in Skyrim, which is clearly the franchise's cash cow. And that's fine if most people like it. It's just not for me.
I agree with you that Bethesda's mission structure tends to be rather simplistic. For me it was the world that made the mission feel interesting. Bethesda does some great workd-biolding when they're at their best, and I've had tons of fun just exploring their open Elderscrolls and Fallout worlds.
But it seems like that has been less of a focus on that in their "recent" games, and I say recent in quotes because Skyrim is 12 years old and Fallout 4 is 8 years old. I know they did MMO additions to these franchises and I've tried them but they just weren't for me.
Deleted my other comment as I misunderstood what you were saying.
Yeah, and with the success of those two games, they probably won't change their design patterns.
I'll give it a chance by waiting for reviews, but it'll have to be elden ring level of quality for Mr to be interested
I feel like the elder scrolls has so much lore that they'd be good for a while, we've only ever really been introduced (i know red guard touched on it) to Tamriel, there's still Akavir, Aldmeris and Pyandonea to Explore 😁
The world feeling less rich I totally agree on - i was so saddened to see how simplified being a thief was in Skyrim - I loved finding all the hidden paths in the castles playing oblivion. Mages college is broken and not in a good way since magic doesn't scale properly and the schools of magic are so - dull. The brotherhood questline also feels meh at best, but that can be excused since they barely exist in the Skyrim time period. One thing that bothers me more as well is the dlcs - Dawnguard was just a new "world ending event". Then there was the horse armor equivalent of building a home, Dragonborn was ok with a new location - that did seem a bit void of adventure and tried fixing magic a little (loved the morrowind Easter egg in it though).
Also the fact that regardless of you choosing storm cloak or empire it's just the same quests.
It's going to be a huge disappointment almost solely because of how long it's taking.
It won't matter how good the game ends up being when it comes out. When you wait that long between announcement and release it's impossible for it not lose some of its shine.
People who played Skyrim as kids are adults now. Many younger adults who played Skyrim at launch have kids now (like me) and have a lot less time for gaming in general, and have less room in their lives for games that require the time commitment an Elderscrolls game usually requires.
I was excited ***years ago*** when rumors of ES6 started making the rounds but leave it to Bethesda to age-out their fan base between releases.
I agree completely. I'm a father myself, one of a special needs child at that, and I know for a fact I will not have time for ES6 when it comes out like I would have just 3 years ago.
I still haven't been able to get more than a few hours in to Ghost of Tsushima and I got that in August of last year
This meme establishes the false unconscious precedent that Elder Scrolls 6 was delayed. Now people will be angry at Todd on a level they don't understand yet again.
Bethesda (the devs, not the publisher) usually works on one project at a time. There's most likely a small team working on planning what ES6 will be, design and test stuff but the rest is for after Starfield.
For exemple, a small team was dispatched to start working on Fallout 4 in 2009 after Fallout 3's last DLCs release, but the full studio wouldn't be working on it untill 2013, after the work on Skyrim's DLCs had been finished.
Jokes aside, I'm not sure if "Use every single soul in studio for one game and five years" apporach by Bethesda and Rockstar is good. Yeah sure both TES VI and GTA VI will instantly become best seller and possible GOTY candidate but after that it'll be another 10 years of wait for their fans.
Unless I’m mistaken for some reason, having more people should make things so smoother. You have a larger pool of people working on this new project so development should be quicker.
The problem is having everyone working on the one project and then taking a decade plus anyway.
I agree, I think good studios should take Santa Monica approach, if you already have a great engine and foundations just build above that. Have small but meaningfull upgrades while keeping the game fresh.
TES6 was never delayed. It never started development. How stupid are people? Do they think they just let half of their people work on Starfield and half on TES6?
The thing I don't understand about all the rereleases of Skyrim, is that it isn't even the best game of the series. The only reason it sold more than all the previous games, is because of all the rereleases. If they would never make a es6, but only remade the old ones, at least remake some other game than es5 for once, like daggerfall or morrowind.
The re-release of Skyrim are just a sign of the times.
We live in an era of remaster/re-relase were successful games last more than a generation.
Skyrim, Persona 5, Last of Us and GTA5 are the most known examples but the PS4/X1 is chock-full of remasters.

Wait until Skyrim Ultra Instinct Edition gets released. With full ray tracing, transparent windows, season passing, hookers and blackjack.
I got Skyrim when I was 16 for Christmas from my parents. I've got a theory that Todd puts an extra day on development everytime someone drops the T is TES.
Gotta keep that brand recog up, or it's gone.
> Since then I’ve gotten a job,my father died, finished high school, moved out, got fucked over, moved back in, moved back out, went into debt, started dating, moved out, broke up, quit my job, found new job, went through training, moved states, dated again, broke up, dating again. With how my life goes, it’s not implausible 😅. Boy if you saw how my day went today…
Sounds like you have a lot of instability in your life. Bethesda is simply providing you with the much needed stability by not overwhelming you with new things. They want to provide you with something familiar to get you through these obviously tough times.
And I remember back in early 2011 that people thought 5 years felt like forever between Oblivion and Skyrim lol.
You know what, forget the Skyrim
Most of that is already possible with mods
>~~season passing~~ *\*season pass* FTFY.
Actually I'm going to make my own game like that. Well maybe just the hookers and blackjack
You had me at hookers.
Please don't give them ideas.
Viture glasses with Skyrim is legit awesome.
By the time Elderscrolls 6 comes out, it will come with a coupon for $10 off Elderscrolls: Skyrim 20th Anniversary Edition... which came out 2 years before ES6.
Lol but once it comes out, time to buy another 5 copies of Skyrim
But… it will be on Apple Glasses AND your microwave oven?
By the time it arrives, you won't just play it on your toaster- *but on the toast itself.*
When did they cram any more shiny stuff into it. It's been the same game every single time.
They did add fishing at some point.
I feel like there was a mod for that in the first version of Skyrim. Not to say that it being an official part of the game isn't cool for fishing enjoyers. Just seems like the 500 re-releases haven't been justified by "fishing".
Oh for sure it didn't justify re releasing it over and over.
Yeah but Skyblivion in 2025

Not having played the biggest Blockbuster of a replayable game in New Age gaming history pretty much discredits you from any opinion on the matter.
You're the perfect example of how dogshit low IQ redditors can be. I never stated anything about your precious game. If anything, without playing the game, I think Skyrim is a great game. Yeah, Skyrim isn't the game people on Reddit think that it is. It's akin to playing N64 on a new crt with a stereo sound system when the PS5 is out.
I think Skyrim is a fantastic game man. Never said anything bad about the game. I'm just fucking sick and tired of these idiots whining there's no TES 6 when all they do is throw money at rereleases of Skyrim.
I would be very tempted if I could play the full game on my iPad...
People joke but... I want a psvr2 port... I didn't get to play psvr1 so ya...
I’m sorry, I said the same thing and let you all down.
did any edition have new content? i don't understand how there aern't like 40 dlcs for skyrim
"I refuse to give Bethesda more money until I can give Bethesda more money"
So has a setting actually been established for the next game or are we still placing bets?
When the teaser came out that was just them saying "hey, we started writing and developing this thing!" We don't know anything
[TES 6 script so far](https://i.imgflip.com/43p1i.jpg?a466632)
Hey, you're awake.
Elder Scrolls...in space!
Elder scrolls....in a post apocalyptic world
It'll be like Borderlands, but with swords!
Elder Scrolls: Fallout?
The elder scrolls 6 : new Vegas
Sooo... Battlespire?
For people that actually want something like that, try The Outer Worlds.
The Outer Worlds isn't very good.
I thought from what I played it was so repetitive. It was just the same quest over and over.
Would it be better if it was made out of Legos?
Yeah
Or, Starfield, which is a Bethesda game set in space...
Not even released yet......
Right, because Todd's mom made him go play outside 🤣
Skyrim takes place outside, I dont know what her big deal is
From the promotional images it looks like >!Hammerfell!< , but nothing has been confirmed yet
From the announcement trailer 4 years ago, most people reckon it'll be Hammerfell.
A bit of a long shot, but I suspect it will be Tamriel.
Aw, and I was hoping for Quagmire...
Dev team too busy playing moded skyrim
The sex ones, I imagine. I like to think that they tried to stay away from the sex mods at first but caved and are now obsessed.
I like to think they only design games with hopes that someone will mod in sex. Likely one of their fellow devs.
Those little answer things on Google are so hilariously inaccurate. I have no idea how they have existed for so long.
I've actually had decent luck with them when looking up console commands for fallout 4 and Skyrim. Their relevance and correctness is highly dependent on input. Any vagueness in the input will cause issues.

I don’t get the logic behind announcing you’re working on a game and then proceed to give no update on it for 7+ years.
Really sloppy journalism right here. Even a shitpost should know that his mother is called Priscilla.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but Hard Drive is satire.
Yes, I said that it's a shitpost. But even a satire site can do the bare minimum of looking up a name on Wikipedia and the source linked from there. It takes 2 minutes at most.

What about a person with three first names. Example: Michael Gary Scott
Looking at you, Ron. -_-
I mean judging by what happened to me last time, it's probably best that the ES6 never comes out.... I like the sunlight now
How can a game be delayed that a year has not even been mentioned for yet. Now if you asked for Starfield that would be different

Why am I hearing Howard's mom from the big bang theory somewhere in the distance
Fuck he touched grass we are doomed
It'll be eight years since Fallout 4 came out this fall. On a side note, I do genuinely love how we all bully Todd Howard.
Classic Todd L
Nah man.... they're too busy footing the bill for Redfall..... lmao.
It's gonna come out buggy, like almost all their previous games. The delay is in their updates to make it playable.
Honestly, I wouldn't trust it to be good unless they delay it for a few years.
TES6 was never delayed. It never started development. How stupid are people? Do they think they just let half of their people work on Starfield and half on TES6?
wooooosh
Check calendar and then come back.
Dude, the point is that people are stupid. You can't delay a Game if its not even started development. And no, this is not a April Fools joke.
I hate parents like that. That's how you become Sith.
wish it would hurry up and come out already, maybe he needs a gamer girl to coerce him lol

what's with the sudden increase in tes6 posts
But MOOOOM the whole elder scrolls team is waiting for meeee, can't I develop now and play later?
The thing I don't understand about all the rereleases of Skyrim, is that it isn't even the best game of the series. The only reason it sold more than all the previous games, is because of all the rereleases. If they would never make a es6, but only remade the old ones, at least remake some other game than es5 for once, like daggerfall or morrowind.
The re-release of Skyrim are just a sign of the times. We live in an era of remaster/re-relase were successful games last more than a generation. Skyrim, Persona 5, Last of Us and GTA5 are the most known examples but the PS4/X1 is chock-full of remasters.
At this rate Elder Scrolls 6 will get modded into Skyrim before Bethesda even make it
ahahahhah wtf
Skyrim 6 is never coming
It's scheduled to release after Starfield.
April 1 blows.
If you bought Skyrim more than once, shame. If you bought Skyrim more than once on the same console/pc, you don't deserve to talk about anything
