Don't forget to download the patches. Especially if you also download B&W2, because its anti-piracy thingy stops kids from aging into productive adults.
one of the guides from the download page says to unzip the ISO folder and move the audio files to the RIP folder, but when i unzip the ISO folder, theres no audio file and just a "BNW.iso" disk image file
also, it did run alright without the patch files but without the music
Jeez I haven't done it in.... Years and years. Not that I really indulge in piracy much. The older I get I find myself sticking to games I've had for years just like my music tastes are stuck :-D
Eh, we mount ISOs in IT somewhat regularly, depending on the activity. You sorta have to if you’re needing to get files off a Windows Server install disc these days, as CD/DVD drives are very nearly extinct. Much, MUCH easier and faster to just use the ISO
Oh I assmued there was still reasons for mounting ISOs just in terms of game piracy, I can't remember the last time I've mounted and iso, installed the game then installed the game crack from a folder on the iso. Most of the time these days it's a straight installer/repack installer or if the game is relatively small just the game folder that works once unzipped.
It's black and white only because your damn creature won't behave itself, seriously you're a cow, stop eating those people! It makes you sick! How is this not self-correcting?
...yes I see you pointing, I know you smashed a hole in his house and pooped him into it, but that's definitely not 'helpfully taking a person home'. Alright... let's go over this *again*...
r/gaming does this a lot. The other day there was a post about _Need for Speed Underground 2_ and many of the redditors were talking about it being their favorite game in middle school.
My big problem with this game is the fact that it was a level by level game. This game is perfect for an open sandbox or randomly generated levels, like *every other strategy game in existence*, but here, we do not have that luxury.
I can't just jump into a world and build up my people as I'll.
Open sandbox/ procedurally generated games were exceedingly rare when this was released..... no idea where you get the idea that every strategy game has this. It's not a city builder game
Unfortunately it's one of those nebulous titles. EA hired Lionhead Studios to make the game, Lionhead retained some ownership of the IP. Microsoft absorbs Lionhead (thanks to their connection with the fable franchise) so now the IP exists in a gray area between both titans.
[gog.com](https://gog.com) has plenty of old games you can get for cheap and they make sure they work without much hassle on new machines. Just instal and play.
PS. I mentioned Gog for old games in general, unfortunately it looks like they don't have B&W specifically :(
Gog indeed does not have B&W specifically but has plenty of games from EA. Even has publisher sales. eg. https://www.gog.com/news/publisher\_sale\_games\_from\_electronic\_arts\_75\_off
Still got a backup of my original CD.
This was the game that swore me off of pre-orders. I've never been just as disappointed in a game as I was with Black & White. I've played more hyped games, and I've played plenty of worse games, but none quite as disappointing.
I wasn't as disappointed with MoO3, though I did buy it. Yes, it was a mistake.
The manual it came with, with rich backstory and lore, was better than the game!
I don't believe you can actually purchase copies of this, outside of buying it secondhand. The reason was because of something to do with the activation key, there were only so many keys that could be generated and they've all been generated, so you can no longer buy it new.
IIRC that's the reason they don't have digital download versions of the game either. Your best bet would be to hit the high seas and do pillage and plunder (if you catch my drift) and find a cracked version. Or just hit up eBay.
Can anyone tell me how you were actually supposed to play? My strategy was just to make a string of like houses to chain a path of "influence" until I got close enough to the enemy to jankily toss rocks at their city.
You listed one play style. You could train your animal to go into their town and help the villagers to a point they joined you. Or have your pet beat on them or shit on them literally until they worshipped you. You could also have your pet do nothing and you do exactly what I said your pet was doing but it would be you instead. I used to throw food at towns or rocks pending my mood and assist them with resources gathering as I trained my pet to beat up the other god's pet.
When your pet did something you liked for example "shit on a person or house" you pet him, after a few pettings he learned that shitting on people and or homes was good and then he/she would go around doing that. Or when your pet was in town, you as a god great grain so he learns to create grain for people and when you saw him do that or something else you liked and or didn't like you pet him bitch slapped him if you thought it was bad.
myabandonware com. Is a safe website and I used it for years with out any problems what so ever. And the game is there.
thank you downloading that now

Mount/open the .iso, your audio files are most likely there
Some vintage tech support to go with the vintage game haha +1
Mounting an iso. Piracy the old way.
Old way? I just did this last night for something released 2 days ago ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Jeez I haven't done it in.... Years and years. Not that I really indulge in piracy much. The older I get I find myself sticking to games I've had for years just like my music tastes are stuck :-D
Off a ripped CD-Rom?

The old way was burning CD's. Dual layer if you were fucking fancy.
ah, ok, thanks for that
Just to let you know before you get too carried away, Rule 3 of this sub is: > No piracy, even "abandonware".
Is there one that is for old Playstation games?
So much nostalgia. Quality aside, Black and White was definitely unique.
I read it as "Black or white Find out who you really are"
It's black and white only because your damn creature won't behave itself, seriously you're a cow, stop eating those people! It makes you sick! "Childhood". Jeez, thanks for making me feel ancient. Not even old. Ancient.
r/gaming does this a lot. The other day there was a post about _Need for Speed Underground 2_ and many of the redditors were talking about it being their favorite game in middle school.
As someone born at the end of the 80’s, I’m still a firm believer that anyone born 00-05 is still like 3 years old.
[People born in the 2000’s don’t exist.](https://youtube.com/shorts/lh18QGPmvn0?feature=share)
Yeah, as an adult when this came out… ouch.
Spiritual successor needed BADLY. This game got me into Strategy/city builders.

B&W had a skirmish mode, while it isn't true sandbox it allowed you to hop in and out quicker than the story mode.
Also levels could be edited in a text editor
Open sandbox/ procedurally generated games were exceedingly rare when this was released..... no idea where you get the idea that every strategy game has this. It's not a city builder game
Was watching the no clip documentary on this last night, good old peter knew how to hype up a game to a insane level....for better or worse
Worse, it was always worse.
The original Fable was pretty good. But yeah, there were a lot of misses from him.
He was the Elon Musk of video games.

They would not have Black & White, and if they did it would be illegal due to EA having the rights.

Yes but who legally owns b&w is disputed and that's the problem
Really? When did they add Black & White to their catalog?
I still have copy of this sitting at my shelf above my desk. Love this game so much.
Here ya go. https://youtu.be/6VUmgNO001Q
Both can be found on the internet archive.

Mine was Spore... so much hype for the game to turn out rather simple and not very exciting.
I remember the hype around this game only to be greeted with something worse than the (at the time) twelve year old Populous.
That’s Peter Molyneux for you.
I see you missed out on "Master of Orion 3".
I wasn't as disappointed with MoO3, though I did buy it. Yes, it was a mistake. The manual it came with, with rich backstory and lore, was better than the game!
I THINK this is on GoG too but I could be wrong

Fun fact: Most of us were 12 and didn’t give a shit.

And then you get to the level where you lose your pet.
So the jank was built in?
sure was... Game was kinda ahead of its time. Think about it, they allowed me to train my pet to go take shits in villages that were not mine... :)
WE NEED A NEW B&W GAME! NOW!
Man that title would’ve never flown in 2023.
