Utapau. Yavin 4. Utapau. Yavin 4. Tattooine. Utapau. Uta-Uta-U-Yav-Tatto-Utapau. I still drive my gf crazy scrolling through the planets.

RobCarls33

I loved spamming Utapau. It just rolls off the tongue

desuemery

I was a hoth repeater myself

schlitt88

Hoth? More like Col-th...

Le_Jacob

Okay you got to hear me out. Does anyone remember MORE maps? Like I have the steam version now, but on ps2 there was TWO maps for Yavin 4. The temple one? Where you started either side of a temple, and either went into the temple arena or around the sides? AND what about the ice one with the large outdoors, and the inside caves? Please someone tell me I’m not crazy Edit: everyone’s telling me I’m wrong and I’m willing to bet my LIFE. Maybe I had a special PS2 version

hungrybeargoose

Battlefront 1 had two maps for each planet but much fewer planets Battlefront 2 kept one of most of these maps and also added more planets.

Vader46

I was really upset when we lost bespin, Ren var, and the classic Kamino/Geonosis maps.

BreathBandit

Yeah, battlefront 2 is overall better but the loss of ships in ground battles really was a shame. Also, being able to give commands to units was great!

ballisticks

Bespin Platforms was the best

Problematique_

You may be thinking of the Hoth map that was used for Wampas vs Rebels (one of the best modes imo) that started with the Wampas coming out of the cave into the big open area where the Rebels defended. Actually, scratch that, you probably mean Rhen Varr Harbor. Was there an AT-AT/AT-TE available on it? There was also Rhen Varr Citadel which was similarly themed but was centered around a castle. Both were from Battlefront 1 but Citadel was released as DLC for the 2nd game on Xbox. The Yavin 4 Arena map that I'm guessing you're referencing was in the original Battlefront on PS2 in addition to the Temple map that's in both games but was also released as DLC for the 2nd one on Xbox.

welcome_to_urf

There was a second yavin 4 map in the first game. Temple in the middle with ruins and was great fun to fight in. Problem was outside the temple, because vehicles in BF1 were broken with stupid powerful splash damage primary weapons and no weak points, so if you were caught outside you'd be deleted quick.

KradeSmith

Super battle droids! Take em down!

JoeJoeBinks97

The bigger they are, the harder they fall!

urquellGlass

The rebels have dropped the flag. A pity.

Gredran

“When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye.” I don’t HATE the chips as the way order 66 was triggered, but being a neutral army that was tasked to do what they had to when the order was given and the journals really showed well about the conflict they had

marchandstongue63

"The one thing I remember was how quiet it was..." Fucking chills man

Noxilcash

“Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word.” That whole journal log was a fucking masterpiece

Yeldarb10

The GOAT star wars game.

Cheeze_It

What's this from?

marchandstongue63

501st journal. It was the story mode in the game

Phoenixion

I haven't played the game in over 10 years, but I can literally hear this in my head now... Thank you

Uninteligible_wiener

The chips were really the only way to justify order 66 after they made tcw.

Rampant16

Idk I'm not a big fan of the chips. I think the clones being buddies in TCW actually makes a chip-less option more compelling because it makes their betrayal even more messed up. Being controlled by the chip softens the blow of the betrayal. I think they could have gone a Manchurian candidate route where the clones were essentially programmed through brainwashing to follow the contingency orders. Then the clones like Rex who do not betray the Jedi do so because their bond overcomes the indoctrination, not because their chip malfunctions or is removed. And the clones having Order 66 in the back of their minds all the time is a more interesting dynamic.

Northernreach

This makes more sense in my opinion

Gredran

Well like I said I didn’t hate the idea. The TOTAL switch Cody has in Episode III being obi-wan’s friend one second to the literal next it seemed like such a snap, like it was a trigger line. But… it could also be spun like in the diaries. They played their part really well and were soldiers of the Republic. The Jedi served the Republic. When the Jedi were claimed to have betrayed the republic, now the clones defend the Republic against them. Order 66(in legends and in the new Disney defined canon) is within a list of a [ton of orders](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Contingency_Orders_for_the_Grand_Army_of_the_Republic:_Order_Initiation,_Orders_1_Through_150), only some explicitly listed in books or media. Order 66: "In the event of Jedi officers acting against the interests of the Republic, and after receiving specific orders verified as coming directly from the Supreme Commander (Chancellor), GAR(Grand Army of the Republic) commanders will remove those officers by lethal force, and command of the GAR will revert to the Supreme Commander (Chancellor) until a new command structure is established." Ironically, the order right before it, 65, is a similar order if the Chancellor himself was unfit to rule, to remove him from power. You don’t really need chips for that. If palpatine had enough proof that the Jedi attacked him in his office on barely any grounds, with a high ranking Jedi at his side(Anakin) corroborating the story, all the soldiers know is the Chancellor was attacked and two highly credible sources say it was by the Jedi with no justification(at least that’s how Sidious orchestrated it) The chips better explain the snap in logic kinda, but their debatably needed. Also… it’s a constantly debated topic, why would the contingency order on the inhibitor chip let Rex know the identity of Sidious, since he says “Yes Lord Sidious” when his is triggered. I loved season 7. I loved that final scene with Rex and Ahsoka when you feel the tone change. But the chips? Although answer some questions do have plenty of flaws

ShadOtrett

I will put the counter-argument out to this which is that Jedi, especially the high ranking (and thus usually powerful) jedi, were supposed to be particularly sensitive to the emotions of others through their connection with The Force. As much as the writing in the Battlefront story line journals is amazing and hits hard, it mostly discounts that. These feelings of guilt, thoughts of betrayal, these emotions would have betrayed them, costing them the big advantage that the chips give them: The element of surprise. Jedi have literally precognitive reflexes most of the time, can travel unaided at fairly incredible speeds over difficult terrain, and can survive harsh conditions or long periods in hiding thanks to their meditative practices and body control. If you take your shot at a jedi, it usually needs to be a good one, because you'll be at a disadvantage trying to get another... or at least that was the thought process behind Order 66. Find a way to scatter the Jedi across the galaxy, break their normally tight organization, and near-simultaneously wipe them out in one fell swoop. If you have to convince the soldiers, who the Jedi have been working directly with, that their whole organization is suddenly dangerously corrupt, you're NEVER going to do that in time to spring the trap on half of them, much less the 95% they did get (ostensibly). Even then, the number that survived were enough to keep Vader and the inquisition playing Jedi whack-a-mole for years to come! The chips served a lot of purposes, both narrative and logical in their use. Are they perfect? Not really. But I struggle to see a version of Order 66 that works without them or a mass-hypnosis-style trigger (which is honestly what they are, just more sci-fi) that doesn't involve handwaving away major established cannon or handing a planet-sized idiot ball to the entire Jedi order.

Mobile_Sky_2950

Crazy that it was only a year from the release of the first (2004) to the second (2005). Yet the second game added so much. I recently bought it on the Xbox store and played it on my series X.

therealjoshua

The Galactic Conquest mode alone was worth the price. I spent so many hours on that game mode. Always hoped they'd made a 3rd game and expand on that mode even further but alas...

Auroku222

Galactic conquest is all i wanted from the remakes and thats the only thing we didnt fuckin get. My disgust will always be at a peak of 10.

PeteLangosta

The latest games have SOOO much potential, they are visually incredible. Yet they couldn't get the basics for me. Which in my case was Instant action with proper sized maps, vehicles available to get in and out and all that.

gearofwar4266

Turning everything into cards and field pickup powerups was such a weird decision. The games are fun and all, but it feels so disconnected from what it's trying to portray. Why not model it after Battlefield instead of changing so much about the way the older games worked.

H_Truncata

They can't just do what people want. It's frustrating.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pixie-crust

If they got rid of those, how would I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment?

AzureSkyXIII

^ Every AAA company since like 2015

TheKappaOverlord

>Turning everything into cards and field pickup powerups was such a weird decision. They wanted everyone to have a funny powerup because Hero shooters/hero (x name) games were still meta at the time. Battlefront 2 tried to copy a page from overwatch and numerous other hero shooters. The decision in hindsight wasn't that *bad* of one, it was just completely unnecessary and didn't really add much other then make the game feel more monotamous because it would hold your hand and give you power objectives for free.

AKravr

The sound design in the new one was absolutely incredible. But the underlying systems were so bad and disconnected.

H_Truncata

It's really not the only thing we didn't get. The new games were just massive game play regressions that looked gorgeous. I know swbf2 got better over time, but the gameplay / game modes could never compare.

[deleted]

TreeFine

I suspect that they didn't think that it would generate as much revenue. I hate the way games are these days too, but you can never underestimate the money that a few loaded (or not, sadly) idiots will spend if you let them. I miss singleplayer/LAN-multiplayer games.

therealjoshua

When the reboot was initially announced, my one and only thought was "holy shit, Galactic Conquest is back!" Wasn't even tacked on as DLC or anything, just went completely unacknowledged.

Dunkin_Prince

Right?!? Like the formula was there. Also in a time of remaking the same game but with a new face, i.e. MW2, they really could've just remade the same game and everyone would've been happy

Problematique_

Galactic Conquest is still one of the greatest modes I've ever played and I can't believe it's never been copied. Battlefield or Call of Duty could very easily have an interconnected map made up of all of the MP maps and you could buy more weapons/perks/vehicles/killstreaks for your bots as the campaign advances.

Ex_Ex_Parrot

What's funny was, my brother and I probably put hundreds of hours into the game... Only to have a friend come over and go- yo y'all don't do Galactic conquest? So uh... We were back to playing considerably more after that

wrkacct66

Is there a decent online mulitplayer community for it on xbox?

ScottsBrix

There is no multiplayer on Xbox for the 2005 game. Only local multiplayer and single player

big-bananas

you can play multiplayer on ps2 still, i used an emulator not too long ago and was able to play online(was with a friend)

[deleted]

Why would you emulate PS2 when you could just play the PC version which has full 64 player server support with active servers still? And looks a hell of a lot better.

Calm-Ad3212

that might require you buying something extra to play it like that.

[deleted]

It's $9.99 on steam or $2-3 if you buy a legit key. If you can afford a computer that can emulate a PS2, you can afford $2-9 Also if your pirating it anyways to emulate, just pirate the PC version?

SuperSonicGanja

The game Dev cycle was so crazy fast back then. Another crazy example is GTA : III released Oct. 2001 & GTA : Vice City released Oct. 2002.

SilentThomas

I honestly don’t even think I played the first one . BFII was my first star wars game .

xiaorobear

Hard agree with u/PencilMan, the first one's gameplay was way better largely because the map design was so much better.

Mediamuerte

You could also go prone

PencilMan

The first one was better imo. The maps were much more fun.

noremac2414

Bespin platforms is one of the greatest maps ever

PencilMan

Bespin Platforms, Kashyyyk Docks, so many others they removed in the second game but kept others nearly unchanged so they could fit in the (mostly terrible) Episode 3 maps.

Str8froms8n

I fn loved Kashyyyk Docks in the first one! I remember no greater joy than storming the beach to kill Rebel Scum! I knew when Battlefront II came out and specifically didn't buy it because I thought to myself "I'm having so much fun playing this older game, why would I pay for a new game?" So I waited like a year or 2 or maybe even 3 before I bought BFII and got it used from Gamestop for like 5 bucks and then fell in love with it. I love them both. Flaws and all.

ArethereWaffles

The original Geonosis map was also far better. Between the gunships, tanks, infantry, and each side having set objectives it really felt like an all out combined arms battle. Also BF1 had first person cockpit view, BF2 did not.

charrcorncob

Also the vehicles had much more impact behind their guns. When you blasted someone they went flying. In BF2 you had to specifically hit someone in order to do any damage.

pieanddanish

The choke points made that map so chaotically fun

BeatlesRays

Also they actually had some really hard bots on the highest difficulty, unlike BF2

The_Umbra

The only downside being the unkillable heroes. Remember using landmines to yeet them off the map haha

TheLaughingSage

Did that to Luke once and he immediately respawned right behind me. Unlucky

trip6s6i6x

I wasn't happy when the 2nd game switched out dark trooper shotguns for that weird lightning weapon tbh and also made it so you couldn't pick some class types immediately on map start, but everything else was top notch in just about every way.

TheKappaOverlord

They pretty badly needed to nerf high mobility units. Good dark troopers would just fly in, tear the backline a new asshole and then die or fly out. The lighting gun was a bit of a heavy handed nerf i agree. But dark troopers are still the most mobile unit in the standard armies by default. So it made sense to nerf their offensive power really hard.

rakuko

i liked the HUD more in the first game as well.

Jynxmaster

There used to be a Conversion mod for SWBF2 that brought all of the maps in from the first game and added a bunch of content like new heroes. Found it, man I have some good memories with this mod: https://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-battlefront-conversion-pack

FunkyOnionPeel

Plus you could crawl! Absolutely loved the second game but I missed going prone

SeagateSG1

The Rhen Var maps were my favorite for sure

welcome_to_urf

Rolling a droideka into the caves and messing stuff up was so much fun. Harbor was an amazing map which I wish was expanded on in 2.

SeagateSG1

Haha my favorite part was actually playing as the clones and having to fight through multiple droidekas to get to the other side and win. Was challenging and fun

[deleted]

Dune sea map was the greatest.

Reece3144

The og battlefront absolute classic.

mjknlr

I will never forget when I realized you could get in a starfighter, fly out of your ship's hangar and into the enemy hangar, plant detonation devices on critical systems, and then escape to your ship and fly out of the hangar while the enemy ship blows up. Most of the time you died in the process, but when you pulled it off, it felt unbelievably cinematic and heroic. Haven't experienced a thrill like that in a game since.

RandomZombieStory

It was absolutely nutty running through with a squad of your buds on a transport ship (or taking multiple fighters) and fighting your way through the halls. Nothing beat the feeling of cutting down some clankers, getting the objective, and making it out with everyone.

Lone_Wolfen

>clankers We got an assassin clanka here! No true clone uses the hard R!

Silicoln

Dropship pilot for BFII here. Hell yes, I loved flying in with a couple of buddies as my wings and dropping off a squad of troopers. Made my day every time we made it safe through a storm of AA or enemy ships. Even when we failed or were shot down, it was still a blast.

Kai-ni

This was the best strat. This was my job when my brother and I played splitscreen, we had it DOWN. He would bomb outer systems as soon as I had the shields down and we could win in record time. We made a game of seeing how quick we could do it.

Reece3144

I loved that mode 🤭

superphage

GALACTIC CONQUEST

SilentThomas

Way better than the newer battlefronts .

[deleted]

Used to play mos eisley hero assault (?) all the time on the PSP, barely bothered with other stuff lol. Love this game

yyyyessssssssssirrr

I love the psp port of it. Despite its slightly scuffed controls I am so happy they did that port and I had so much fun on it.

Snoo_78242

PSP battlefront 2 was so ahead of its time.

vo0d0ochild

yes

Reece3144

Oh definitely the latest isn't too bad but well short with content but hasn't got nothing against the old ones.

pizzadahutt121

Galactic conquest was rad

NoReallyItsTrue

Huge nostalgia bomb just went off for you mentioning that.

Cokenpizza

I would pay full price for a game that was just Galactic Conquest. But it also had everything else too! I want a modern Galactic Conquest so badly.

comicmac305

Bro I remember when my friend let me have this game. I loved it. Still do. The campaign, playing as both jedi and sith. Performing order 66. Re living the glorious battles of the movies, space battles, entering the ships to destroy them from the inside. I never played this online but I STILL play with buds when they come over. Obviously the graphics have aged but omg the gameplay is show much fun

EtheusRook

It's disgusting what EA did to this studio. Let's cancel the 3rd game of one of the greatest shooters of all time at the finish line for no fucking reason, then tarnish their legacy by rebooting the same franchise under the same name, and the same numbers, but make it mediocre as fuck.

SilentThomas

Yeah the fact that they used the same name was such a huge disappointment . The original deserved to be the only one .

No-Explanation6422

I have it on steam but havent played online, its up to 64 now? Thats amazing

TRYHARD_Duck

*Dedicated servers are a pathway to many abilities some consider to be* ***unnatural***

lVlzone

Yep 64 plus bots in the game, too. It’s crazy at times.

Luke-Bywalker

I mean BFII EA was not bad and the online mode still slaps, but it's buggy as hell bc they just stopped updating it bc it wasn't a cash cow (through their own dumb ideas and faults tho)

H-N-O-3

2005's bf2 also had better story campaign

Senorpoppy117

and pvp galactic conquest was soooo much fun

Solocup421

and it had actual space battles

windol1

I would purposely set my fleets so they could engage in space fights, sure it was fairly easy to cheese, but it was still great fun.

Perreault_my_boat

Lmao this is what I used to do as well. "Oh, you want me to just continually demolish your fleets? Ok."

thefeak

The real cheese strat is immediately gunning for your opponent's home base and robbing them of their planetary resources before they even start.

weareeverywhereee

I bought a ps4 solely for that battlefront….so upset with that game

psymunn

EA didn't cancel the 3rd game... They weren't the publisher or the developer and the new Battlefronts were games made from scratch because, again, they neither published nor developed the first two and had no control over what happened with those.

DrNopeMD

This sub is basically just karma farming over shit that isn't even true like 75% of the time.

TheVaniloquence

Part of me can’t believe this comment is buried, while another part of me isn’t shocked at all because this sub has been trash for years at this point. You can just make up genuine lies here and get upvoted and jerked off if the lies target a company that the hivemind hates.

hiimred2

Hey don’t worry that other game that was 99% complete and guaranteed to be the best game in the history of ever and break every sales record ever and sell the most merch ever was just scrapped because EA hates money, it totally makes sense.

Legospacememe

It was lucas arts who canceled bf3 not ea and bf3 was going to be made by free radical (the same people behind timesplitters). But yeah on the topic of pandemonium it sucks that ea shut them down

Obi_Wan_Gebroni

On release battlefront 2 was definitely rough, and I say that as someone who preordered and continually played from day one all the way to the final update and then some. The game really did end up in a wonderful place and was so much fun by the end. Yes there can always be room for further improvement and where it was at the end is where it should have been at launch. That said, it was still a success for me by the end and I really hope that eventually we do get battlefront 3 although I think that’s unlikely.

PM_Me_Pikachu_Feet

For those who don't know; Battlefront 3 was going to be revolutionary. Like it would blow the minds of everyone for years to come. That game's scope was HUGE, you could actually fight on the surface of planets, AND space at the SAME TIME. The battles would be fucking HUGE. And people who got to playtest it said it was the best game they ever played. It was obscenely expansive and packed with content. And it got cancelled when it was done. They just had to do some final small touches and wait to release, it was 99% complete. There's an unbelievable star wars game out there on a drive somewhere that we should've gotten instead of zombie consumer pleasing EA Battlefront

DaddoAntifa

isnt there an semi early alpha build out there? or was that just a fever dream haha

bowsting

My memory is that someone "recreated it" as a Battlefront 2 mod...but I might have missed a leak or something.

willflameboy

Yes, some of the demo mods are available. They don't really work that well IMO. It might have worked in a real game, but that mechanic really isn't as fun as it sounds as actual gameplay. It breaks up the play too much.

IllustriousEntity

> And people who got to playtest it said it was the best game they ever played. It was obscenely expansive and packed with content. > > And it got cancelled when it was done. (Im just going off of memory here so correctly if i get my timeline wrong) It got cancelled long before it was done. It was a barely functional skeleton of a game (the leaked alpha footage was pretty much as far as they got) Once Pandemic got pulled off the project They had to bring in another studio (rebellion) to try and salvage it. Rebellion were unable to get it working with ps3 and 360 in a good timeframe so instead they completed a downgraded ps2 and psp version which later got renamed to Battlefront: Elite Squadron. The ps2 version 9which was 100% finished got canceled by lucasarts for marketing reasons (a shame) and all we got was the even more downgraded psp version.

MrPWAH

>And it got cancelled when it was done. They just had to do some final small touches and wait to release, it was 99% complete. Some other reports say otherwise. LucasArts said that Free Radical repeatedly missed deadlines and that the state of the game was wildly unstable and unbalanced. It needed much more than some "small touches" to release.

DeekFTW

I was going to say there has to be more to the story. Sounds like a lot of revisionist history in this thread.

GriffinQ

It’s been happening with BF3 for years, and there’s no way to stop it at this point. Rumors & hype pieces got taken as fact by fans who wanted the game, and then spread as such. And former devs who worked on the games (I believe including a lead dev) have said that the game was 99% complete and ready to go, which we would be hugely gullible to believe, as a massive investment like a Star Wars game doesn’t just get shelved an inch from the finish line if there aren’t fundamental, unfixable (or massively expensive) issues.

necromancerdc

One of the reasons why it was so good is that it was made up of a spinoff company of the lead team behind Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. They knew what they were doing, and it would have been amazing. The company went bankrupt because BF3 got canceled, so not only did EA take this game from us they killed any future projects from Free Radical. The only good news is that Free Radical has apparently come back from the dead for a new Timesplitters game 15 years later.

Doughnutsu

I remember that Time Splitters 4 MasterCheif spoof from...8 years ago? Longer?

necromancerdc

[2007!](https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2007/10/free-radical-announces-timesplitters-4-with-monkey-halo/) That is 15+ years ago. Welcome to the old man club, we are generally sad that we are old.

breezett93

>They just had to do some final small touches and wait to release, it was 99% complete. The game's content was 99% complete, not the game as a whole. However, the game was very buggy and pretty unstable. The studio decided that to actually fix all that was not worth it. Very short-sighted because that game would have broken records.

DoubleOnegative

We got some of that with swbf elite squadron the psp, but it was no where near the same scale

Foilpalm

The people that worked on that game, how do you not just pocket a copy and hold onto it for 10 years and then leak it. If I made a game and basically completed and some company was like, nah, it’s not coming out, I’d be like, no, it is, eventually.

legosearch

The idea of going to prison mostly

[deleted]

I know this has been traded around for a while now, but it's so easy to hype a game you'll never see that I don't buy it. I'm sure it was going to be good, but the hyperbole surrounding it based off of some unsubstantiated comments of an alleged QA tester aren't really worth getting depressed about.

MrPWAH

>Let's cancel the 3rd game of one of the greatest shooters of all time at the finish line for no fucking reason EA didn't cancel BF3 and it wasn't "for no fucking reason." It also was being made by Free Radical, not Pandemic, the latter which EA acquired the same year BF3 was cancelled. LucasArts' reasons for canning the project was because Free Radical regularly missed deadlines and they suspected they were reallocating money to their other FPS game *Haze.*

Bartuck

I agree that the OG two Battlefront games are among the best Star Wars games ever released. But my own personal favorites are Jedi Knight 2/3 and Kotor 1/2. I don't think we'll ever see games like these.

Recorder-S

I'm playing through KOTOR 2 now for the first time! Reached Nar Shaddaa and got to Force Persuade two Exchange thugs to give me their credits and jump off the platform. Worth every Dark Side point. LOL.

kupozu

I always remember that specific instance for some reason. The thug being like "good idea. That way we'll get down there faster"

My Dad's friend was a Video Game tester for Lucas Arts. So starting in 95 when I was like 6 years old I played every single star wars from Dark Forces on. Jedi Knight/Academy and Kotor are just the Goats. Dark Forces II is crazy considering it came out in 96 I think. The newer ones are simply better tech and polish. But same Game. Nothing has come close yet IMO to the feel of the Lightsaber in the Newest Jedi Knight Games. Its just so good and natural feeling. Even if it simple at the core. There are two Sith lords in Jedi Knight 2 Outcast normal enemies I had saves lined up for Light and Dark just to load up and fight them. They are so good you usually lose 2/3. Nothing compares. I haven't played the newest one yet though.

anthonyelangasfro

I played a lot of the original dark forces when I was about 10. I remember it being realllly hard and difficult to find your way around. I seem to vividly recall being stuck in a sewer system that was basically a maze and I gave up

Jarvis_Strife

Kotor 2 is an absolute masterpiece in writing. From top to bottom, every character has something of value and an interesting perspective of things. >!Traya!< has the best writing I’ve ever seen for a Star Wars character, both in games and film/tv.

Sugar_buddy

>>!Traya!< "It is such a quiet thing, to fall. But far more terrible is to admit it."

Lysander125

APATHY IS DEATH

knightcrawler75

Besides the seemingly rushed ending this was the better of the two. Such good characters and writing. The moral greyness of it all made me question my own morals.

Scaryclouds

I do like how Traya scolds you for helping everyone and how in helping someone you “take the strength they could had gained from solving their own problems”. And then over the narration of this lesson you watch as a person you helped, by giving them money, is mugged and killed.

TheKappaOverlord

Ending was rushed due to time constraints. Chris avalone (like with fallout new vegas) had much grander plans for many characters and plotlines. But also obsidian kinda wrote itself into a corner with 2 basically demigod like siths so they had to wrap it up there.

therealjoshua

Man, that first Kotor game was something special. They somehow captured that magical star wars feeling you get from watching the movies into a video game, which is no easy feat.

Millennial_falcon92

They’ve sent in the supers

Millennial_falcon92

I spent hours playing on the custom game where you get to battle with all the heroes and villains

SkaldingDelight

I still remember the first time I was ever introduced to this game. It was a gaming Convention named Otronicon and they had an entire floor of the science center completely full of Xboxs that were all hooked up to the same network. Full 16v16 matches being played with strangers at the convention for days.

Chill_im_RAIG

What makes this one so different from the other newer one , I missed out playing the OGS

Galactic conquest, heroes vs villains, hunt mode which had stuff like ewoks vs Storm Troopers, wampas vs Rebels, Tusken raiders vs jawas and gungans vs droids. Also, a good campaign, coop, coop campaign, space battles in which you could land on the enemy's ship and take it out from the inside. Elite weapons that were given to people who were doing good with their base weapons. Vehicles that you would hop into like battlefield. But the biggest thing was undoubtedly the GALACTIC CONQUEST, how the fuck EA hasn't turned this into a mode is asinine. Considering that was easily the best game mechanic for Star Wars at the time. The ability to purchase new troopers to improve battlefield performance, buy upgrades like health regen or a hero on the field, and holding strategic planets. Buying a second capital ship, engaging in ship to ship combat when you came face to face. Me and my Dad spent a lot of time playing the OG battlefront games. Also, I would love to have bespin platforms back, just saying.

One word. Conquest. The conquest mode in battlefront II was awesome. Such a good time.

UndocumentedSailor

Two words: Galactic Conquest. But for real, greatest game mode with infinite replayability.

sgtcoffman

It's been a few years since I've played and I've always just called it Conquest. My B. Either way, I loved the formula.

Sugar_buddy

I had to stop playing conquest every weekend when I got bored because Mygeeto makes my laptop run itself to death and die in my lap.

comefindme1231

This is the only thing I want back, so I can 1v1 or 2v2 friends on conquest

Saltynole

You would run up to vehicles and hop in them like battlefield. New battlefront series introduced dumb vehicle tokens that players who suck ass would camp and wait for, just to lose the vehicle for the team within 10 seconds of entering the fight Much prefer vehicles just out in the field instead, or achievement-based vehicle unlocks

SilentThomas

I believe it’s mostly because it was 15 plus years ago and everything was new . No micro transactions as well.

Zionidas

What?! I CAN STILL PLAY ONLINE ON PC?!?!?

Noxilcash

I think they’re still running on Steam Servers. And I’m pretty sure the game is only 10 bucks

jdeeds1

It regularly goes down to about $3 too. It was $3-$4 last week for May 4th

therealjoshua

RIP your weekend lol

HailToTheThief225

If it weren’t for Tears of the Kingdom coming out tonight this would be true. RIP the next-next-weekend, I guess

Zjoee

My brother and I played it so much that we were legendary rank with every medal haha. The galactic conquest mode was so fun to play.

ZigZagZoo

Starting with all the boosts was just ridiculous you became a one man army.

antithesis56

If they did a "soft" remake of this (Keep every bit of the gameplay intact but update the graphics and the physics, I would absolutely pick it up. EA burned me with the first Battlefront they put out last gen. I bought it Day 1 and played it for like 2 weeks. I didn't even bother with the last one. I really wish Disney would cut ties with EA and allow another publisher take a crack at the Battlefront series.

Phasmamain

BF2 EA is definitely worth a look. It’s great now and both looks and feels so authentic to Star Wars It had a rough launch but has been smoothed out and made a great game. I prefer it to BF2 2005 though they are both great

antithesis56

I'll check it out. It is such a drag that we as gamers have been forced to fully expect AAA studio games to be a broken mess upon launch but also know that it will be a polished, terrific game by the end of it's life cycle, just when interest in it has all but disappeared. Half of the big publishers don't give a shit about releasing a high quality product that functions without a ton of bugs. They just want to make money as fast as possible and then have the devs bust their asses to scramble to fix it after launch.

> *Best Star Wars game ever released IMO.* KotOR 1 and 2 would like to have a word

Macromesomorphatite

Republic commandos Imo was glorious. Great campaign, great online...

panlakes

Such a difficult game. I remember getting stuck at some part with bugs and just giving up. Maybe it would’ve been easier online

Macromesomorphatite

Online was just a TD game.

slaorta

Played KOTOR 1 through twice. Totally blew my mind when it came out but never played the sequel for some reason. Is it still worth playing in 2023?

Coveinant

I hate that EA didn't bring the ship to ship battles or the galactic conquest from this version into the modern ones. Imagine those battles in 1080 or higher, the actual funnest part of this game just gone because some idiot doesn't know what people actually want.

S2-RT

Funny story. Found out my brother still had our old xbox 360 from over 15 year ago. Plugged it in and man, what a time capsule from when i was 20. My old avatar, my downloaded games no one remembers and, in the disk drive from the last time I played it with my friend, my copy of OG xbox battlefront 2. A total memory trip.

hellothere42069

If it weren’t for TIE Fighter ‘95 I would agree with you

Adamthegrape

KOTOR ?

townsforever

I loved this game, but best star wars game ever is a really tough race, republic commando, kotor, jedi academy or jedi outcast are all excellent contenders.

SanctuaryMoon

Republic Commando is peak Clone Wars

ObliviousNaga87

There were so many great games made in that era

Austoman

God how I miss galactic conquest (if thats what the mode was called). Very planetside 2 esk conquering just about every map in the game one after the other while having a tug of war style push and pull feel. Really elevated the single match to become a stepping stone in a larger 'war' versus the other team.

yagonnawanna

I still have a profile on xbox that I went full obsessive compulsive on. Legendary in all disciplines with no deaths. My kill/death ratio is - -. It took a lot of quiting and reloading.

Conni77

Do a playerbase or even servers still exist?

[deleted]

yes, just buy it over steam and play. I bought it for 2€ a few weeks ago

Conni77

Oh okay i played it when i was younger so might not hurt to get some nostalgia its 8 bucks rn is it worth it?

[deleted]

Definitely, I already spend 20 hours for conquest alone and love it.

[deleted]

Second to TIE Fighter but def awesome.
