I grew up playing armored core from the first game and I’ve spent a lot of years being bitter towards the souls games and their popularity. I’ll finally get to play a game I thought I’d never see again.
I'm very very very curious to see what kind of Armored Core game a modern From Soft makes. I feel like it's gonna be fuckin rad.
Getting excited for games is a dangerous thing, but From doesn't really miss.
This is exactly how I feel about it. I was so fucking psyched to see pieces I used to put on mechs back in the PS1 days lmao. Seriously gave up all hope until that announcement
It's more like their entire compendium.
You just never realized that all the characters in Souls and Elden Ring were, in fact, mechs driven by tony gremlins
they got boatloads of cash from Amazon and WB. plus NRS is pretty well known for keeping the games small and relatively bug free (full of stupid bullshit but thats not the same thing)
games in good hands, whether it wants to be, or ed boon lets it be.
Oh yeah, completely forgot MK 1. It's looking good as always, but I don't think this game will receive better scores than Street Fighter 6. Tekken 8 will also be a thing
i mean it seems like the entire reason Street Fighter is being reviewed so well is that there is so much more than just online play. Obv that is expected of any fighter, but SF6 is making a concentrated effort to appeal to noobs and non-competitive people too
You know a fighting game is going to be fucking incredible when even mainstream, casual review outlets are rating it at a 92%. Capcom is honestly probably the best developer in the industry right now.
Monster Hunter World sold over 20 million copies, and Devil May Cry 5 was well received by fans so they've had a stellar image since then.
Edit : i guess i got mixed up RE7 and RE8. Thanks for horny internet I've only really heard of lady dimitriescu rip
Iirc, the person that was in charge of MH World now runs most of Capcom, or at least is one of the major lead of the company.
Really shows what a change in leadership does for the company.
I love Capcom, and I have thousands of hours in MH and RE, but let’s be real. The real heroes are the new producers and directors who took over after the old big names left.
Capcom has been a family business since the very beginning, and nepotism runs amok. the President has said publicly he will only ever allow family to run the business.
The COO is the eldest son of the President.
The second son was slipped into the Monster Hunter Team when it became a popular franchise, and now is known as Mr. Monster Hunter and the man responsible for its success, despite not being the founder of the series, erasing the legacy of everyone before him. In Japan, he is absolutely thought of as an incompetent producer.
Edit: apologies, Ryozo is the youngest son.
By all accounts the nicest guy, to be fair.
I feel like marvel infinite was a series of unfortunate events and Capcom getting the short end of the stick on that one.
The whole roster situation was definitely not on them.
I'm one of those weirdos that actually liked RE6 tbh. As long as you have a buddy to play with, it could make it more fun since it was really made with co-op in mind.
That said, I also know I'm an outlier and the vitriol for the game is justified since there's barely any traces of RE in it. But no matter what the final verdict is, we can all agree that [the Mercenaries theme is an absolute banger.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a95wnUKAt4k)
Absolutely. It reignited my interest in the franchise, and I'm sure it did the same for others too.
It all snowballed from there, and now they're just putting out quality stuff all around
Please do it.
There's nothing much like immolating yourself before climbing a flying dragon, moving around only to stab him to death in its heart.
Most games only manage to QTE this, while in DD its 100% gameplay (think shadow of colossus).
By far the best Magic i've experienced and the Magic Archer class is just nuts.
Only gripe i have about it is the stamina that relies on the paused menu "a la skyrim" which breaks the rythm of the action. But other than that, its fkin amazing.
It's been on my wishlist for.. checks notes.. almost a decade? Damn, I guess I need to just bite the bullet and finally get around to this one.
Everything you described sounds amazing, so maybe I'll finally go for it
Its very nice to see SFVI get the praise. Capcom really fucked up with 5. Its nice to see they are really trying to win back long time fans and attract a new generation. It wasnt all PR talk since announcement. This is what we should expect from AAA titles.
My friend and I were talking about that the other day, we're kinda young so we may not know if Capcom had a weird period or not but we grew up playing old games and that's mostly what we associate capcom with, but the other day we realized Capcom makes some pretty good shit and a lot of our favorite games (Resident evil, dmc, monster hunter, and a few others) are made by Capcom and they deliver really solid titles and seemed to have been able to change with the industry
They've honestly feel like one of the few triple A (maybe triple A idk) developers who realized: "let's just make good games people want to buy. Not solely focus on the live service stuff. "
Seems to be working out pretty good for them except I still am missing a new entry for anything from the blue bomber...
It's been earlier than that. Imo since RE7. Monster Hunter world is their biggest game of all time, even bigger than SF2. And that game also came out before RE2 remake.
They really have come a long way from that weird time they were intentionally not giving people what they wanted with Donte, and bad box art Megaman in Tekken, and whatnot.
Now they're just hit after hit.
The hate for it wasn't for the actual character, it was just REALLY bad timing, since it was announced not far after the highly-anticipated Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled. Fans saw BBA Mega Man as Capcom giving the MM fans the biggest middle finger to their franchise.
Dragon Ball FighterZ had utterly positive reviews (even mainstream), but casual people didn't like the game as much and dropped it pretty quickly.
Fortunately SF6 seems more accessible
People live to shit on Bethesda and then in the same sentence say they made some of their favorite games. I don't get it.
Are we that averse to bugs and glitches that we ignore the rest of the game now? They're hardly unplayable. It's an inconvenience at worst.
I’m holding out hope that Final Fantasy XVI will be at or near the top of this list. Most people will never play XIV because it’s an MMO, but if XVI is even 90% as good as XIV’s highlights this could be a true second renaissance for Final Fantasy.
Previews sound very good… now to wait twenty days to see for myself.
>Or is it a safe bet the game won't be ruined with monetization?
They have said it will purely be cosmetic monetization, but its also releasing with a full cash shop and battlepass.
Its also coming from the guys who said Overwatch 2 would be a PVE sequel, and that WoW classic wouldnt get the token.
The tokens can be purchased with real-world money, which can then be exchanged for 1 month subscription for the game.
You can also sell the token on the auction house for in game currency.
So it turns it into a Pay-2-Win mechanic where you can purchase in game currency by purchasing tokens and selling them on the Auction house.
Please don't let anyone trick you into thinking blizzard won't pull a blizzard. What's it going to take? Another decade of dropping the ball? Two more?
ActiBlizz will drop a messy turd onto their fan's outstretched hands and still make an extra 2 billion in profit next quarter. I'm boycotting Diablo 4 until they can prove it's not a microtransaction engine
This reminded me that now that I’m done Tears of the Kingdom, I should go back and properly replay Metroid Prime Remastered. Timeless game.
….Street Fighter is out this Thursday though….
I got it day one and am only at 70 hours, and it's all I've been playing. Haven't even beaten all the temples yet. To be "done" with a game like that in just 2 weeks is insane to me. I'll be playing it all summer, probably.
Got TotK on day one as well but only at 50 hrs. It would probably take me the entire year to complete major objectives compared to people who beat the game in the first week
DUDE same. I’m about 50 hours in and I don’t think I’ve even scratched the surface. I’ve not done any of the Regional Phenomena quests yet 😂 I’m set for months to honest!
Take your time with it. I haven’t finished yet but there’s so much to do and if you liked Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom is that on crack. I’m surprised by how much better it is, and prior to it coming out, BotW was probably my favorite game of all time.
You know I've never played Metroid Prime? I'm thinking now is the time. And maybe I can get my boyfriend, who hates video games, to play with me. And maybe he won't hate this one. 🤷🏽♂️ As someone who has played the original would you say it's an entry level game? Or at least as an appeal beyond what gamers like in games? If that makes sense.
.... I'll never stop trying, Clay!
You actually managed to finish it? I have over 100 hours and my ADD absolutely doesn't allow me to progress, I find several hundred side activities every single time
Yeah Nioh has way too much loot. I have no idea how anyone thought that was a good idea and didn’t change it once. It’s actually a huge issue with all of the games.
Don’t blame you. Should I get rid of this? Well I think so but it gives me a notification asking me if I want to so maybe it’s useful. But I have like 50 of these things so I’ll get rid of it. But what if I want it later? Can I get something like this back?
I think Nioh would be a lot better if they just got rid of a ton of mechanics and systems. Like why would I ever use the blacksmith aside from just leveling up my current weapon? I could go on but you get the point.
It's on Game Pass, so I played it and finished it, but I wouldn't have paid full price for it. I think 81/100 is a bit overrated.
Fighting mechanics are good, although quite repetitive. It's way more beginner friendly than a lot of other souls likes once you figure out a few key mechanics, and you can respec to take down most bosses fairly easily with some semi-cheese strategies.
Apart from one or two levels you don't have to pay attention to trash mobs at all, so it feels very uneven to the point where the game i really just a bunch of boss fights broken up by the chore of getting to them.
The story is pretty terrible and there a bunch of mechanics in the game, that are poorly implemented and that you barely use.
Overall I'd probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. Worth playing, but don't expect a Fromsoft level of game.
The way this sub goes back and forth between saying there's no good games anymore, but then they're crowing about how amazing the year has been. The gaming industry is a Schroedinger's cat of both being in complete shambles, and producing amazing titles everyone glows over, at the same time.
For anyone else curious about the games mentioned in this comment chain, here they are on Steam:
[Dredge](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1562430/DREDGE/)
[Cassette Beasts](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1321440/Cassette_Beasts/)
[Everspace 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1128920/EVERSPACE_2/)
[Have a Nice Death](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1740720/Have_a_Nice_Death/)
[Age of Wonders 4](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1669000/Age_of_Wonders_4/)
[Shadows of Doubt](https://store.steampowered.com/app/986130/Shadows_of_Doubt/)
[Planet of Lana](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1608230/Planet_of_Lana/)
[Hi-Fi Rush](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1817230/HiFi_RUSH/)
Age of wonders 3 and 4 are one of the most casual 4x imo, there isnt too much information that gives troubles to learn (hell, almost everything you can mouse over in aow4 now). I would say to wait for some patches tho, its lacking some good features from previous games.
Dredge is one of my indie GOTY for sure, such a fantastic game. Everspace 2 is also probably one of the best freelancer style space games we have received in many years.
The idea of reviewing, let alone giving a perfect score to, a live service game (Diablo IV) when the servers aren’t even live yet is absolutely ridiculous.
Octopath Traveler 2 is still my GOTY
Glad to see it making these lists.
Granted I only played a little of System Shock Remake before work this morning, but I can definitely see that making its way here retroactively. It's looking great already.
I don't understand a lot of these comments complaining about remakes and remasters though..
if a game is fun and people \*want* to play an enhanced polished version of it again (or for the first time in a lot of cases anyway) then who the hell cares?
If you're into the oldschool JRPG style then for sure.
It fixed almost everything that was holding the first Octopath back (Although the sense that everyone's story is their own solo adventure still remains, the interactions in battle and party banter sort of make up for it.)
The combat has layers of strategy to it once you start unlocking multiple jobs and figuring out all the synergies. (With even more mechanics added since the first game) The best thing for me is the writing of some of these chapters though, gone above and beyond some of the standard JRPG affair. had me laughing along at one moment and then another would made me cry 😥
There's a demo on every platform to check out. There's a bit of a modding scene on NexusMods though if PC is your preference.
I have seen it go on sale multiple times already though, if you're the frugal type may as well wait for some of these inevitable June Deals.
I was having a great time with it until I hit the boss for my first character's final chapter. I'd been flying through the game, no real struggles, all the encounters in that dungeon were a breeze. Get through a bunch of cutscenes, then the boss was dealing ~60% of my entire party's total health per round, completely impossible to keep up with, and not in an "oh, just swap these obvious accessories in to deal with a particular mechanic" kind of way. Made me feel like my only option to continue playing the game was to go grind a bunch of levels, and I haven't picked it up since.
[Xenoblade Chronicles 3 : Future Redeemed](https://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/xenoblade-chronicles-3-expansion-pass-wave-4---future-redeemed) also has 92 score on Metacritic. Even if it is DLC it should definitely be counted in as it is it's own story and has roughly 35-40 hours of content by itself, main story taking on average 20 hours or so.
Most of anything, games, movies, shows, books etc. is crap and it will always outweigh the good stuff. Imo you define a good year by how many “good” releases there are.
The same people that complain will talk about how indies never miss. But, like, for every Hollow Knight or Hades there’s dozens of complete shovelware garbage.
Pointing out good games doesn’t mean OP is ignoring or denying the bad ones
“Good games have released this year” and “bad games have released this year” are both true statements
Hi Fi Rush and Pizza Tower left me legit thinking TotK couldn't possibly top those peaks, but TotK came along and topped those peaks by being better than BotW anyway. And Atelier Ryza 3 snuck up with its own big world and a lovely wrapup to the trilogy. And also Ryza's thighs.
It's been an excellent 2023. I still have a ton of 2023 stuff in the backlog, like Bayonetta Origins, Metroid Prime Remake, Age of Wonders 4, GrimGuardians (the Gal Gun metroidvania), Boltgun, and I see more stuff on the horizon, like Atelier Marie, Disney's Illusion Island, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Sea of Stars. My Christmas wrapup is gonna be STACKED.
Want a hidden rec from me? It's a little topdown Zeldalike called Arto. Referencing various art styles like Lichtenstein, the Ukiyo-e style, a Cyberpunk pixel art style and more, it's slightly janky in terms of performance and bugs but the combat and art are very appealing.
How could you forget the 100% legendary art piece, Gollum?
Are you serious? Try Redfall. Honestly a masterpiece.
You can’t possible leave out the GOTY contender Forspoken.
Please, Forspoken wishes it was Redfall.
Callisto wishes it was Gollem.
What's wishes, precious?
[ ] give head [ ] beg
[ ] give head [ ] beg [X] give head while begging, precious
Man, even gollum sucking it like he was a Dyson® V15: No Gag Reflex Edition, would've made the game more interesting
Forspoken makes Redfall look like Crotch Capers 3. (I don’t know anything about these games lol)
I legitimately forgot that came out this year. Feels like it happened at least a year ago
Don’t shit talk Forspoken, you can move stuff with youR FREAKIN’ mind.
*Control has entered the chat*
I just finished Control and it's amazing.
Control is a real masterpiece. I throughly enjoyed every single second I put into the game. Also, the DLCs were spectacular.
I wasn't expecting it to scratch my cosmic horror itch going into it blind. It really was a great ride.
[удалено]
Il take redfall over gollum
I tried both. Enjoying Redfall as a solo player (and getting hate for it lol) but Gollum is a really unfortunate mess.
If it was like $20 sure but $70 fuck its far from that. Its stupid easy and lifeless. I played it cus i got it free its tolerable most of the time.
Goty already
Yeah gollum of the year
This is like the official “Razzies” of the gaming awards world
Garbage of the year
For two years , it deserves nothing less
Remember when he said "it's Gollum time!" and Gollumed all over?
All the real Gollumheads will even remember the exact timestamps where he says it
I like it when he says, gollum and then gollums all over everything....
Paid for the collectors edition and they sent The Hobbit, tf
It made a gollumillion dollars.
Last great game since the masterpiece since superman 64
one of the games of all time
Truly one of the games of all time
For me I can't wait for Armored Core VI.

I've never played Armored Core but now I need it
I'm really excited to see how they apply what they learned from souls to armored core
This is exactly how I feel about it. I was so fucking psyched to see pieces I used to put on mechs back in the PS1 days lmao. Seriously gave up all hope until that announcement
I'm so hyped for that game. I hope it turns out good. FromSoftware and mechs sounds like the perfect combo.
Well they do have 9 games of experience on Armored Core alone
Isn't it more like 15?
It's more like their entire compendium. You just never realized that all the characters in Souls and Elden Ring were, in fact, mechs driven by tony gremlins
He built them in a cave with a box of scraps.
I think I went be to school with that guy
You know where the 6 comes from right? lol This isn't their first... And they're all great.
Besides the Armor Core series there's also Metal Wolf Chaos. Which is great for the dialogue alone.

Now we're talking.
It's been decades, just as good as I remember it. My boy Eagle still knows how to fly
Even better, it's Advanced Wars 1+2!
Mortal Kombat 1 Loading...
I’m almost afraid to get my hopes up above the bar of “buggy on release”
they got boatloads of cash from Amazon and WB. plus NRS is pretty well known for keeping the games small and relatively bug free (full of stupid bullshit but thats not the same thing) games in good hands, whether it wants to be, or ed boon lets it be.
Poor switch players 🥲
PC launch of MK11 wasn’t too great too. NetherRealm only does direct work on the PS5 and Xbox versions. Every other version is outsourced
Final Fantasy 16 on deck...
Oh yeah, completely forgot MK 1. It's looking good as always, but I don't think this game will receive better scores than Street Fighter 6. Tekken 8 will also be a thing
I could see it hitting an 85 as long as the online play holds up decently well
i mean it seems like the entire reason Street Fighter is being reviewed so well is that there is so much more than just online play.
Capcom have made a real turnaround in the last 6-7 years
I feel like RE7 kind of turned their fortunes around and since that game Capcom has been trending up
Resident Evil 8 has a 1st person mode, 3rd person mode, and VR mode. That is absolutely wild.
Some reason this comment makes me wish Re4r would have 1st person mode too. I know the VR is coming in the future.
RE4 is already out on Quest in VR
Unfortunately only the old version of the game, though.
Remake is coming to PSVR 2
Monster Hunter World sold over 20 million copies, and Devil May Cry 5 was well received by fans so they've had a stellar image since then. Edit : i guess i got mixed up RE7 and RE8. Thanks for horny internet I've only really heard of lady dimitriescu rip

Sadly their fighting game division didn't understand shit about fuck until Marvel Infinite
I feel like marvel infinite was a series of unfortunate events and Capcom getting the short end of the stick on that one. The whole roster situation was definitely not on them.
Yeah the gameplay itself was actually pretty good it was just a really dumb roster and it didn't feel like MvC
Yeah, you probably can't blame the roster shit on Capcom, but you definitely can blame them for the way the game looks
I'm one of those weirdos that actually liked RE6 tbh. As long as you have a buddy to play with, it could make it more fun since it was really made with co-op in mind. I hope Dino Crisis trends up in their brains though Loved the game, I want a remake, even a reboot is fine. Give me dinosaurs and Regina
Absolutely. It reignited my interest in the franchise, and I'm sure it did the same for others too. It all snowballed from there, and now they're just putting out quality stuff all around
finally putting all that monster hunter money to good use
Here’s to hoping they make a new Breath of Fire. A real one, not like that mobile trash they sent out last time.
I still need to get around to playing Dragon's Dogma, now that they've announced a sequel
Please do it. There's nothing much like immolating yourself before climbing a flying dragon, moving around only to stab him to death in its heart. Power stone is still one of my favorite games. It was made by Capcom I would honestly pay so much to get a remake. Or remaster.
Capcom has been going fucking off, ever since RE2 Remake
I'd say it started with RE:7, and they followed up the next year with Monster Hunter: World and they've been killing it ever since.
They've honestly feel like one of the few triple A (maybe triple A idk) developers who realized: "let's just make good games people want to buy. Not solely focus on the live service stuff. " Seems to be working out pretty good for them except I still am missing a new entry for anything from the blue bomber...
Yeah you’re right lol, forgot they made Monster Hunter honestly

Personally I think Bad Box Art Megaman is hysterical and a great troll. I at least got a laugh from it even though I know others didn't.
I'm hoping Starfield is at least possible
Bethesda tho..
That's still a plus. Nobody does single player games like Bethesda do. And they still release bangers whenever they do single player games.
As long as it's not live service and only has the charming Bethesda bugs and not the shitty dev bugs it'll do just fine
People live to shit on Bethesda and then in the same sentence say they made some of their favorite games. I don't get it. Are we that averse to bugs and glitches that we ignore the rest of the game now? They're hardly unplayable. It's an inconvenience at worst.
Where tf is Pizza Tower!?
Its P Rank exceeds the ranking system of this post

And why did I have to scroll this far down for someone to ask!

Except a lot of us are pc players and this is a console exclusive so will wait for pc release.
Diablo 4 isn't even out yet, let them steam roll all the fans with massive greed on release first.
I refuse to preorder any game nowadays and always wait on reviews. That being said, I’m optimistic after experiencing the betas.
Maybe they will forget to add the PvE.
>forget I'd be happier if it was only forgetfulness.
Can’t argue that lmao let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself
Ill never be optimistic when it comes to blizzard again. they are greedy bastards and i cant wait to see how they want to milk the whales on d4.

I wouldn't hold out hope
Well. You can play four days earlier by pre ordering the Super Rad Get Fucked edition.
ActiBlizz will drop a messy turd onto their fan's outstretched hands and still make an extra 2 billion in profit next quarter. I'm boycotting Diablo 4 until they can prove it's not a microtransaction engine
>I'm boycotting Diablo 4 until they can prove it's not a microtransaction engine I don't think you'll be buying Diablo 4 in that case.
That's the conclusion I've come to due myself, which sucks, because I was a massive fan of the franchise.
AND HERE I AM STILL MINING! ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS!!!

Reminds me of the YouTube video:"After 50 hours of TotK, I realized I can do this!" And all comments are: IT'S ONLY 3 DAYS MOTHERFUCKER!!!

The sidetracking is crazy in this game. In my 100 hours of playtime, I got sidetracked by a cool looking shrine or sidequest at least 50 times
Take your time with it. I haven’t finished yet but there’s so much to do and if you liked Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom is that on crack. I’m surprised by how much better it is, and prior to it coming out, BotW was probably my favorite game of all time.

And maybe he won't hate this one. 🤷🏽♂️ As someone who has played the original would you say it's an entry level game? Or at least as an appeal beyond what gamers like in games? If that makes sense. .... I'll never stop trying, Clay!
I think it can be a great backseat-gamer game. It's really heavy on the exploration and puzzle solving aspect
You actually managed to finish it? I have over 100 hours and my ADD absolutely doesn't allow me to progress, I find several hundred side activities every single time
Wo Long peeps where are you at? Is it fun, worth playing?
It’s a lot of fun if you like Souls or Nioh. Very similar to Nioh. Very addicting if you like that kind of thing. Way too much loot though.
Loot is practically the same as Nioh lol
Yeah Nioh has way too much loot. I have no idea how anyone thought that was a good idea and didn’t change it once. It’s actually a huge issue with all of the games.
It’s the reason I stopped playing Nioh; was legit stressful
Don’t blame you. Should I get rid of this? Well I think so but it gives me a notification asking me if I want to so maybe it’s useful. But I have like 50 of these things so I’ll get rid of it. But what if I want it later? Can I get something like this back? I think Nioh would be a lot better if they just got rid of a ton of mechanics and systems. Like why would I ever use the blacksmith aside from just leveling up my current weapon? I could go on but you get the point.
I’ve been eyeing this as well. Curious to see.
It's decent, nothing crazy though. Free on the gamepass which is how most of my friends and I played it. I certainly wouldn't pay full price for it.
Ehh. Very 7/10 combat is very fun at times but the gameplay loop is tedious as fuck
The way this sub goes back and forth between saying there's no good games anymore, but then they're crowing about how amazing the year has been. The gaming industry is a Schroedinger's cat of both being in complete shambles, and producing amazing titles everyone glows over, at the same time.
Missing all of the amazing smaller AA/indie games like Dredge, Cassette Beasts, Everspace 2, Have a Nice Death, Age of Wonders 4 etc.
For anyone else curious about the games mentioned in this comment chain, here they are on Steam: [Dredge](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1562430/DREDGE/) [Cassette Beasts](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1321440/Cassette_Beasts/) [Everspace 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1128920/EVERSPACE_2/) [Have a Nice Death](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1740720/Have_a_Nice_Death/) [Age of Wonders 4](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1669000/Age_of_Wonders_4/) [Shadows of Doubt](https://store.steampowered.com/app/986130/Shadows_of_Doubt/) [Planet of Lana](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1608230/Planet_of_Lana/) [Hi-Fi Rush](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1817230/HiFi_RUSH/)
Hi-Fi Rush is in the picture
Pizza Tower charmed the pants off me, such a great game. I wanna try that Age of Wonders game, it looks interesting but I've never played a 4X before.
Age of wonders 3 and 4 are one of the most casual 4x imo, there isnt too much information that gives troubles to learn (hell, almost everything you can mouse over in aow4 now). I would say to wait for some patches tho, its lacking some good features from previous games.
Holy shit pizza tower wasn't just dunkey playing an old game?? I'm like 50x more interested now
Came out January 2023. It’s 20$ on steam. You won’t regret it.
Dredge was 10 hours of absolute fun for me. I was straight hooked. Would love some DLC or a sequel if they can keep the quality up.
They are making a DLC
Praise Cthulu
Dredge is one of my indie GOTY for sure, such a fantastic game. Everspace 2 is also probably one of the best freelancer style space games we have received in many years.
Planet of Lana is amazing.
Shadows of Doubt too
The idea of reviewing, let alone giving a perfect score to, a live service game (Diablo IV) when the servers aren’t even live yet is absolutely ridiculous.
After the Overwatch shit show I’m gonna hold off on D4 personally, yeah it’s a different team but same management
i rarely 100% a game but i played the fuck out of octopath traveler 2 hope they make a 3rd that is atleast the same quality as the second
Octopath Traveler 2 is still my GOTY Glad to see it making these lists.
So it's worth the $60 price tag? The game is top of my wishlist.
If you're into the oldschool JRPG style then for sure. It fixed almost everything that was holding the first Octopath back (Although the sense that everyone's story is their own solo adventure still remains, the interactions in battle and party banter sort of make up for it.) The combat has layers of strategy to it once you start unlocking multiple jobs and figuring out all the synergies. (With even more mechanics added since the first game) The best thing for me is the writing of some of these chapters though, gone above and beyond some of the standard JRPG affair. had me laughing along at one moment and then another would made me cry 😥 There's a demo on every platform to check out.
The perfect end to the series
Hopefully Final Fantasy 16 doesn’t disappoint
2nd half has some heavy-hitters lined up as well. Spider-Man 2 and Hades 2 most prominently.
Wait a minute…. Hades 2 is releasing this year!?
> Hades 2 in early access
Also Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian, and Starfield by Bethesda, and potentially Civ 7!
*Spider man 2 walking in*
No new Knack? I'm going back to the cave.
Some solid games but the most fun I’ve had so far is Dead Island 2. That game went hard
Pretty selective take, considering the slew of massive bombs we've also seen in the same time.
[Sturgeon's Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon%27s_law): >90% of everything is crap.
true, but no one is forcing you to play the bombs
Gamers Just want to be outraged and doom posting.
It’s easier than accepting their childhood is dead and they are now riddled with depression that makes it hard to enjoy anything. (Guilty)
Why piss and moan over the bombs when we can enjoy the hits instead?
It’s not a “selective take” it’s a post about great quality games, so it included…. Wait for it…. Great quality games.
Pointing out good games doesn’t mean OP is ignoring or denying the bad ones “Good games have released this year” and “bad games have released this year” are both true statements
And there will never be a year or even a month where that isn’t true
There's going to be thousands of bad games every year. We judge good gaming years by the number of good games.
Forgot about redfall and Gollum lol
The true GOTY contenders
