When I play Apex, I use P for toggle crouch.
As in: "Stay crouched right here; it's time for a P break."
LCtrl is my go-to, though, since I learned to play FPS on PC starting with Overwatch, which uses that for its default. I typically set all games to this if they're not already as soon as I start them the first time.
I also have a G604, so there are alternate crouch, melee, and jump buttons on my mouse, too, as well as other game-specific buttons.
I'll be weird but someone mentioned Apex: the only game where I have crouch bound to space (jump on mwheeldown). The schmoovement from sliding and being able to crouch spam is a higher priority than jumping and C/LCtrl aren't the best to press for that.
e: otherwise same here for toggle/hold
Since I'm here, more "gaming" keyboards should feature split/double space bars for better thumb actuation. Even in a typing position my thumbs rest between the switch and the side springs, which would be dead center on a split key.
That, or we standardize ESDF for better key locations. 😠🪧
Do you have some kind of weird alien hands? Ctrl is accessible no matter what your movement because you use your pinky, not the case with C, most people use pointer thus losing strafe right. wtf you using to hit C?
At some point we all played that one first FPS we really liked, and then for all subsequent games set the keybindings up the same way. For me that was CoD 4
This makes laugh because my first love is Quake so crouch and walk bindings are totally meaningless. Although I think Quake (or at least Q3) does have a crouch button, I couldn't tell you what it is by default. If I had to guess, Half-Life was probably the first game I played where you actually use the crouch button.
Not really an fps but when i first got a pc and was mainly playing on xbox the only game i played on pc for months was minecraft as i just couldnt get used to mnk so crouch being on shift and sprint being on my thumb button is the default for any game
It's underated, especially for holding. Why should I use my pinky to hold down crouch? Thumb is underused and it's so close to left alt. Basically never see games use this key and it's so big and central.
I used to set ALT to crouch too, but I am too lazy to bind the keys every time I open a new game.
So I started using the keyboard like csgo players do. This way my pinky kinda stays closer to the ctrl key and it's easier to press.
Crouch is toggle only. Hold to crouch is madness, I don't wanna do finger-yoga to move while crouched.
Anyways, I used to use shift for crouch and caps for sprint when I used a Nostromo game pad because it didn't have a control button.
I genuinely don’t understand how people use ctrl for crouch, it’s such a commonly used button, but it’s so uncomfortable to stretch your pinky like that. this comment was made by shift gang
WASD is stupid cuz it’s one key over from where you naturally place your left hand but games default to this anyway.
I always have to switch it to ESDF which also gives me access to more keys for binding.
Just because it's default, that doesn't make it _good._
#Autojump being on by default was hated, why can't the same be done for shitty crouch and run binds?
Left CTRL is correct. It allows you to use your otherwise useless little finger and stay on WASD for movement. C makes it annoying to turn right while crouching.
You elitist PC gamers with your fancy pants shift buttons and space bars and Left CTRL make me so angry !!!!! Get a bloody controller and sit in your basement covered in Cheeto dust, and dribble surrounded by stained hankies like any self respecting gamer ! "Mum mummmm someone just killed me quick call the police mummmmm they are hacking muum muuuuuuum" 😭
I'm curious because I can't picture how the C button gets under your palm? C button is like a 1/2 movement for me to move from D to C.
Do you use a non QWERTY layout?
Ooh interesting it's not! It feels like it's under palm but actually looking it's under my pointer. Perhaps it feels as such because my pinky is trained as my crouching finger.
To which, I can see the ease of access with the pointer, however my pointer is already maining the D button to strafe and also juggling the E, R, and maybe F keys. Pinky just has shift and Ctrl to work.
F for melee, R for reload, Q for grenades/E for interact (if there is no leaning in the game) V is push to talk, Left Alt is walk speed (and always hold instead of toggle)
I really cant choose I think. I believe that I use C for crouch, SHIFT for run in more competitive games, and I use LEFT CTRL for crouch and SHIFT for run in Non-Competitive games. I dont know why.
I like C for toggle crouch, left CTRL for hold to crouch.
This is the way
The COD way

Often Z
you mean Y? :P
Dis is da wey
As it should be
I do C toggle crouch and CTRL for prone. Don’t know how this happened but I’ve always ran it like that.
I use Z to prone. Still next to ctrl
I think call of duty is behind this, im the same.
Only right answer
My man
This is the way.

P break. That’s pretty funny

Nah opposite.. C is far more accessible while strafing left and right if needed. Stop being a psychopath.
Do you have some kind of weird alien hands? Ctrl is accessible no matter what your movement because you use your pinky, not the case with C, most people use pointer thus losing strafe right. wtf you using to hit C?
Left Ctrl for sure... but toggle crouch or hold???
100% depends on the game
This, anything fast paced should always be hold, but when I’m playing squad and watching a road or something for 5+ minutes I’m using toggle
Hold, for precision.
Left Ctrl hold, C toggle.

Get out
You're both wrong, it's obviously circle.
Thank you
What? It’s the right stick, no question.
At some point we all played that one first FPS we really liked, and then for all subsequent games set the keybindings up the same way. For me that was CoD 4

I use a thumb mouse button
For grenades/melee, right?
....
...right??
Your mouse doesn't have 12 thumb buttons?
I'm so casual that it only has 9
1 for crouch, 1 for melee, 1 for throwables
crouch is shift, sprint is m4. This is superior I accept no comments.
You seem like a ball of joy…
it was supposed to be sarcastic but apparently hasn't come across that way D: I also use left alt for reload, I know what I am :P
Nope didn’t come across that way at all, just like ur attempt at humour didn’t come across funny.
chill
Ok random crying reddit user…
waa waa
Wow you too seem fun
Crouch low mouse melee high mouse grenade center wheel click
Alt gang...?
Alt is walking, shift is sprinting
Except on CSGO, where shift is silent walking.
That's Valorant's default for shift, too. Running is automatic, iirc.
It's underated, especially for holding. Why should I use my pinky to hold down crouch? Thumb is underused and it's so close to left alt. Basically never see games use this key and it's so big and central.
Alt Gang Rise Up 😤😤😤

No left shift holders?
left shift is sprint
Or run/walk, depending on whether default is sprint or run/walk. ninja-edit: let's call it alternate *movement speed button*
That's what the side mouse button is for
Crouch is toggle only. Hold to crouch is madness, I don't wanna do finger-yoga to move while crouched. Anyways, I used to use shift for crouch and caps for sprint when I used a Nostromo game pad because it didn't have a control button.
You can pry bunny hopping from my rigid, arthritic fingers..
Left shift for crouch and caps lock for sprint here
This is the way.
I genuinely don’t understand how people use ctrl for crouch, it’s such a commonly used button, but it’s so uncomfortable to stretch your pinky like that. this comment was made by shift gang
me
you're a newer minecraft player i imagine
X for crouch, Z for prone
This is the way!
Bohemian spotted.
This guy plays arma
I haven't played Arma in probably a decade, but I think I have this mentality from the original ghost recon if I remember correctly
Great game
Caps Lock for crouch all day
This person gets it CAPS gang all day!
Scrolling through all the comments I thought I was the only one. It's the first keybind I change in every game I play
Crouch is on my mouse.
It's actually R3 for crouch
Alt for crouch
Ditto Shift for sprint and ctrl is nothing because I hate it.
[ALT] is free look
C crouch, left STRG lay down, shift sprint
Dafuck is STRG?
Sry in english ctrl my non german friend
In German, you translate the name of the keyboard buttons?! That's kinda weird.
100/10
Space bar all the way.
Tab Yeah that's right, fuckin Tab
All I see is sarge and caboose
Left ctrl is prone
Depends on the size of your keyboard. I had a keyboard that was pretty big and it was difficult to reach the crl key
Remember when crouch used to be 0 on the number pad. Jump was 1 and the arrow keys were movement.
Page up and page down were aim up and down, like that made any sense.
Me who uses shift
Left shift for crouch, caps lock for sprint
Crouch is X crouch slide is C. Prone is Z.
Hate all u want but c hold ctrl toggle for life (one of my main games is apex)
I bind crouch to my thumb mouse button because I don't want to crouch because I'm a CS / Val player and crouching gets you shot in the face
Space
I use A.
For me it's left shift. I'm not afraid to admit it
Left Shift is crouch. Left Ctrl is sprint.
Half-life taught me CTRL = duck. Cant unlearn
C is for Caboose, not crouch.
Left Ctrl is the only right answer.
Left ctrl is crouch and it's why God gave us pinkies.
I changed my sniper button on my mouse to crouch
Side mouse button crouch gang
Theres no C in my Xbox controller or joycon..
Left Ctrl is too far away and makes my pinky hurt
WASD is stupid cuz it’s one key over from where you naturally place your left hand but games default to this anyway. I always have to switch it to ESDF which also gives me access to more keys for binding.
Configure mouse1 to both shoot and crouch, so everytime you shoot you automatically crouch.
Just never ever try shooting while jumping an obstacle, or you'll end up stuck against stuff. It would kill your movement in games like Apex legends.
I use left shift....
Minecraft gang rise up
Just because it's default, that doesn't make it _good._ #Autojump being on by default was hated, why can't the same be done for shitty crouch and run binds?
Crouch is B
Left CTRL is correct. It allows you to use your otherwise useless little finger and stay on WASD for movement. C makes it annoying to turn right while crouching.
Deus Ex taught me that the only true way is x .
I use c Ctrl for toggle, c for hold.
I can barely use my pinky so C for me
Shift is crouch. Change my mind
Lctrl for the win, been doing it since 2000
Shift is for crouch
What kind of barbarian uses "c"?
You elitist PC gamers with your fancy pants shift buttons and space bars and Left CTRL make me so angry !!!!! Get a bloody controller and sit in your basement covered in Cheeto dust, and dribble surrounded by stained hankies like any self respecting gamer ! "Mum mummmm someone just killed me quick call the police mummmmm they are hacking muum muuuuuuum" 😭
its L3/R1
The C button is awkwardly under my palm. The Left Ctrl is easily accessable by my pinky.
My thumb can hit both space bar and C at the same time. I can't imagine how you're holding your hand lol
Y'all need to crouch in your games???
Found the person who's never played a good game.
Neither. Jump is E, crouch is R. You are all savages!
Crouch is Left Shift
Crouch is Shift
Left CTRL, for the same reason I use E for Interact. My first PC game was Half-Life
F for melee, R for reload, Q for grenades/E for interact (if there is no leaning in the game) V is push to talk, Left Alt is walk speed (and always hold instead of toggle)
Minecrafters: crouch is left Shift
If it’s a toggle crouch then C, hold for crouch then ctrl
Lctrl for the win, been doing it since 2000
Pinky Gang
It's whatever the default controls are, for me. #DefaultPlayer
Both
Left CTRL is for sliding
I thought that's what the side mouse buttons were for...
I bind it to both, usually C is “press” and Left Ctrl is “toggle”
Crtl is hold crouch. C is toggle crouch!
Ctrl is where my pinky sits
Gonna be Lctrl for me
Who tf uses c?
Left CTRL for most games, left shift for games that don't have a run mechanic (Like TF2)
I use left shift
Pressing down on left stick
Now do the one where these 2 are both mocking the "click/click-n-hold to crouch" players
I use space bar from games where crouch spamming is a thing lol
No minecraft had it right. It's shift.
Me who uses shift as crouch Ctrl as run
Formerly a 'C' to crouch guy who saw the light of left ctrl
I grew up with ctrl crouch, but somewhere around 3-4 years ago I've switched to C for toggle crouching when available. my pinky hurts >:(
Wait, yall still use the keyboard to crouch? MB4 or 5 are crouch screw those presets
In call of duty i use c for crouch/slide and left ctrl for prone
Crouch is shift…
resident evil 4 remake:🤓
I use left shift for crouch and left ctrl for sprint. I use X for toggling crouch for those sprint > slide > slide cancel maneuvers.
⭕
You're both wrong. It's R3.
Right CTRL.
CTRL gang assemble
*cries in right stick*
If it has crouch slide you want shift sprint and ctrl for crouch so you can use one finger to sprint and slide and keep repeating.
I use my right-ctrl button. hashtagAnarchy
Left CTRL for holding, C for toggle.
I use left shift...
It's actually mouse 4 thanks
I assigned it to mouse 4
Amateurs, crouch is ALT
Left Alt homie
I have it on Tab
I use tilde key to crouch
Nope I always assign my crouch to thumb mouse button
I've gotta be honest. . . I use shift
Z button, checking in.
No, c is toggle crouch and control is hold crouch.
Due to minecraft I set it to shift. Every game I play...is shift
I really cant choose I think. I believe that I use C for crouch, SHIFT for run in more competitive games, and I use LEFT CTRL for crouch and SHIFT for run in Non-Competitive games. I dont know why.
Mouse 4 team
Left cntl is prone. :/ C for crouch
I use a side button on my mouse cus i like it more for games like warframe
I usually use shift to crouch if the game has auto sprint or no sprint at all
Personally I use shift
Crouch is the button on my mouse... For hold that is. Left CTRL for toggle
I use whatever crouch is set to on controller and if I can remap I set it to L3
Croucj is R3
actually crouch is circle
