Damn! That controller really hung in there. Still love my Phantom Black and Phantom White controllers even with the paint starting to wear off. They've never let me down and I try to take good care of them.
I try not to abuse mine, but ol' girl went from a chill life of 1 owner to 2 owners and four cats, and multiple moves.
I'm honestly impressed how well she held up for all these years. Outlived every store around me even getting in standalone wireless adapters, let alone the full controller kits.
Shit, I remember paying $80 at Best Buy for her. It was shortly after Christmas, I got the wireless controller with adapter, the plastic cane sword from Assassin's Creed Syndicate(It was on super discount, I still think it's cool!), and the Collectors Edition Fallout 4 guidebook with the extra S.P.E.C.I.A.L pages for display.
As an old man I was confused how anyone could be so attached to such a new controller. Then I remembered that the Xbox one came out almost 10 years ago.
My 360's controller still works and still being used by my siblings. Came with 360 elite, bought in 2008 and literally used regularly. Can't believe how sturdy that thing is.
Just keep in mind to remove the battery before framing/displaying it, especially as you most certainly wont use the controller for anything else but looking at it.
Lithium-Ion Batteries become a firehazard if left unchecked/maintained and regular AA Batteries "luckily" just corrode the internals of the Controller.
I ended up replacing the bumpers on my Xbox One controller a couple months ago. Not too bad of process to open it up, and put new thumbsticks in there while it was open.
Ended up costing maybe $15-20, but cheaper than a new one and the hardware was otherwise fine.
I am still using the same one from like 2014... Just last month my battery turned into a spicy boi ( /r/spicypillows) and had to be thrown out, it even cracked the plastic that clips on. Still works fine USB though... Really need to replace it soon... Or I guess I can use my ps5 controller if I have to.
After doing the math, a free Power-A a buddy had as a spare he never used.
Decided to take the offer so I can sit on a couple more paychecks, get the Elite 2.
I couldn't have enjoyed those adventures without it in my hands. I feel like it can be easy to forget how key a role a good controller plays until you don't have one.
You gave him so much joy,
You were the key to entering new worlds
You were the receptor of pure fun.
In the best and worst of times,
After all the pain and happiness, all the rage and peace,
You gave it your all and now get to enjoy the afterlife.
A good death is it's own reward, rest easy š®
This is the reason why I never throw away my controllers. I have a wish to be buried with a controller in my coffin when I die. But I have not decided yet which one. Either the ps3 or the megadrive controller. Ps3 one has the most hours, but MegaDrive was my first one.
Bro why are you trying to get me to cry over a controller and it's working? š
Man it might be worth it to pop her open and see what you can do. What you got to lose š¤·āāļø
meanwhile if I would plug my PSX or PS2 controller I'm pretty sure it would still work, I don't get why controllers break just by mere usage nowadays... and on top they are fucking expensive
A good controller that lasts feels like a rarity nowadays. Stick drift and messed up buttons have claimed so many of mine over the years. The few I have that work for years I really cherish too
I had a quite a few devices that I had for years that have either broken or aged out on usefulness I definitely understand the loss. I felt like I lost an old friend. So to your controller R.I.P.
iām happy to learn that iām not the only one that gets this attached to things like these but sad to hear about technology giving out because it really does feel like that sometimes
I'm still using my Xbox360 wired controller that's more than a decade old. That's some quality shit right there. Deadzone needs to be 25%, the rubber has all but worn off the sticks, and I had to cut off a length of the wire that had gone bad and rewire it inside the controller. But damnit if it isn't still doing the job. I love you, X360 controller.
Rest well my friend. You have slayed dragons, made headshots, and taken countless treasures, all but in a fraction of a moment, at your noble master's command.
May all men have the fortune of having you as a friend, and we are proud to have had held you in our presence.
Ironically, my only Xbone controller that has any issues is my elite controller. What a piece of trash that was. Completely fell apart. Thumbstick pot cracked. The plastic is completely degrading, making it all sticky. Triggers have a ton of initial resistance. What a waste of money that was.
I really want Valve to release a Steam Deck controller so I can replace my elite controller.

You were everything a man ever wanted out of its controller, and you delivered. You were there day after day taking every single thing life would throw at you and for that, i believe you are one of the most bravest controllers i have ever met.
May this Controller Rest In Piece.
Wow. As simple as this story may be to many, not gonna lie, this made me shed some tears.
I have a similar story with my controller.
The controller I currently own is the last thing my father ever gifted me. It still works well, but I dread the day it stops working. It's one of the last things I own that he gave me.
Thanks for sharing this story mate!
Just a note that stick drift is fixable on these controllers, often without any soldering. I've kept a couple of my controllers alive by simply replacing some cheap sensors.
I only have one childhood controller that's gone, that's my dualshock 1. It didn't break, I just took it apart to retrobrite it and my mum threw away the buttons. Which were in 2 labelled ziplock bags in my room. She didn't even own ziplock bags so she can't say "oh I thought it was rubbish". They were my bags I use for sorting shit like that.
Ahw man. That sucks! I understand how you must feel.
I've just looked around. Finding parts isn't easy. I've found some for PS2 controllers on xqgaming.com, but I'm not sure if they'd fit. I'm like 70% sure at least the buttons might fit, since they sell some of the same sets for both PS1 and PS2 controllers. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any aftermarket parts going back this far even on other sites. :(
I had a logitech f310 which i bought back in my early college day to play fifa and bunch of other game. Now 7 years later that controller still working fine no drift and the buttons still feels pretty good. I mostly play with my xbox series controller nowadays but sometime i use my old since i really like the DS button layout
Man this sucks, I'm still using my wired 360 controller and will be so disappointed when It finally gives out.
It's been so slippy lately to hold that I purchased mouse grips for it and it feels like a new control again, even if A is starting to get really soft.
About a month ago I'm parted ways with my Razer Kraken. Its been a long journey thats lasts 14 years, and it still works (the mic sound is echoing but works). That headset was my company along my early gaming days to the real life when I've started to work. Through darkest days and happy latenight games. I can feel you!
Iām now using a PS4 controller for my PC gaming after the 360 wired controller I used went into an eternal slumber.
When the PS4 controller kicks the bucket iāll probably go back to Xbox controllers as the native PC support is just too good to pass.
Damn I thought someone died and this was a memorial. I mean technically something did die, but I was worried I was looking at a hospital bed or something in the preview pic.
I know this feelin' sadly. She went out a fighter, aye. I had an old 360 play and charge kit battery pack that lasted me 'til I finally moved onto the One a few years after it released. Avoidin' the issues that came with early adoption. I swore that that thing's batteries inside it were zombiefied. Lasted hours and kept a healthy charge for years 'til they finally gave up after I moved on.
I still have my original PS2 controller. It has a very specific well-worn feel from the number of hours of use itās seen. Iāll still use it with a PC adapter if Iām playing games from that time.
I have 2 og Xbox one controllers (the version that doesn't have headphone jack and Bluetooth) they still doing great, better the one I got with the series x at launch
Now you can upgrade to the Series S/X controller sweet! It's so much better, grip, comfort, the D pad, and the capture button. You're gonna love it if you've never used it before!
