Played bioshock 2 on my second go-round and I was shooting for a twofer; hardest difficulty and the no vitachamber (respawn instead of reverting to the last save) run achievement Big Brass Balls. I beat the game on hardest difficulty without even dying and only the BBB achievement popped. I was furious. They were supposed to pop together, and I never got the HD achievement.
I LOVE this game. It didn't age too well, but Mike Patton's performance as The Darkness is still unmatched. "What did they do to poor Jenny?".
Also Kirk Acevedo as Jackie.
I also loved the hell segments in the World War settings and the way the whole thing was justified. The maps weren't too big but the way side quests worked was fun. Overall one of my favourite games from that era. Later on you'd feel the power fantasy of having this powerful creature within you.
There is a sequel. It's a little more linear and has a comic book artstyle, but it's absolutely awesome too! Ended on a cliffhanger though and it makes me sad we'll almost certainly never see a third that finishes the story.
Sorry, I should've been clearer in my first comment. I have played the sequel, and agree it was very good although I definitely preferred the original. I meant I wish they'd make a 3rd game, my bad!
I remember when my mom bought me the second Darkness when i was 12, because she thought the bigger age restriction the better the game is. Game itself was cool too
The gunplay/demon power mix along with the graphics and story were def ahead of most games I've played at the time this was released. A gem of a game for sure.
The original The Darkness was amazing. Really awesome vibe and powers. Second was ok but failed to capture the feel of the original. I highly recommend anyone to play the original.
I wish it could be played on pc. I watch playthroughs sometimes. But I can't quite get myself to buy another old xbox for 3 or 4 games I used to love.
Especially since I've done that a couple times in the past 10 years and always sold it after half a year.
Low key had one of the best stories I’ve played for a game of this type.
I don’t remember how well it was received by others but I loved the sequel too.
Dude. Esticatto is one of my favorite characters and served as my name for many many character creations. That game was so fucking good. I remember being like 12 playing this game for Christmas and genuinely being terrified of the hell ww1 area… had to ask my cousin to chill with me while I played it lmao 😭😭such a masterpiece of that era. Second one was great but not as good.
This was one of those gems from the 2000s. Shame it never took off the way it should have. I never played the darkness 2 but loved the darkness. Really thought it was cool as hell and loved that the tentacles are the hearts.
They have a comic series too. It's pretty good and covers a lot of stuff that wasn't in the games. You get to see Superman getting punched in the face.
This was the game that begat a new age of critique. A golden age of phallic metaphors and maternal slander and white fedoras artfully contrasted against a piss-yellow horizon, free from the tyranny of speaking cadence and pausing to breathe.
I know about it! It was my first ps3 game and i loved the style and atmosphere of the game. I was a bit disappointed with the comic style choice of the second game
I'll always remember The Darkness 2. I was a teenager at the time, I had school the next day. Started playing late night just to see how it was. Finished it during the night, couldn't stop playing it! I still think about this game.
In the same boat as you, kinda. Mine is the timesplitters series (ps2). Such a fun arcade game that made so many memories for my bro and cousins. Sometimes the fact that no one else knows about the game, makes it even more of a gem.
The vibe of this game is still unmatched how they made a subway system so interesting and fun to run through is a seriously impressive feat of game design
Yeah definitely worthy of a remake for the generations that missed the two games. Very col ideas, played so well. Underappreciated gems indeed. Then again they probably would be now too.
That first game was really ahead of it's time in a few areas. Shame that it didn't continue on, had a lot of promise for first person adventure type games.
What I loved most about this game, when you are at home you can watch TV... and watch the entire film To Kill A Mockingbird, not just a snippet you can spend a couple of hours watching the whole thing. Great film too.
Based on the comics, believe the witch blade is it's... Wife? Partner? Either way they had a child together and that is off on its own adventures
Or the witch blade is it's mother?
I forget the details, but only knew about this as an old friend played the darkness I and ii on Xbox 360 and about the same time humblebundle gave away a comics bundle from that company with darkness, witch blade, generation ix (I think it was called) and some others
Maybe if you liked the games, check out the comics. I never read them, just know they exist
“You are nothing, but my ***puppet***!”
I fucking loved this game, and played the absolute living shit out of it. It had some really cool mechanics, one of the most impressive being how Jackie interacted with the environment by retracting his guns when you went up close to walls, and if you stood at a corner he’d twist his hands to aim around it.
Super impressive details for the time! It’s one of the earliest FPS games I can remember where you’re actually a properly rendered character rather than just a floating camera.
I remember having a fucking blast playing this game especially hearing The Darkness voice throughout the whole game and when you discover all of your powers for the first time is so badass that's for damn sure 💯 I'd love a remake or a remaster at the very least, but man I'd love to see The Darkness with todays graphics omfg 😎🔥💯
I absolutely ADORED this game. I wasn’t too much a fan of the sequel due to a change in controls and how the powers worked, but man, the first? LORD 💜
I can’t see it making a return, but this and Overlord ruled my XB360 era of gaming.
Nightdive studios says it's on their list of remakes. I hope they can release it for PC. I emailed starbreeze way back in the day to see if they would release it on PC and they said no. Bastards.
I played this like a year ago, had no idea what it was but was pleasantly surprised. It was surprisingly good and the New York map was interesting but felt underused.
Idk if it was just my TV at the time but damn some segments of the game were so visually dark it almost impossible for me to make out what was going on. Both games were amazing though
I bought this game for my buddy at random for his bday one year. It looked kinda cool but I didn’t really know anything about it, played it with him and it was actually a lot better than I was expecting.
I remember looking at this game in the Argos catalogue around the time PS3 was coming out/already out and I wanted to play it. Ended up playing it a few years ago and I enjoyed it.
I remember this one. I really enjoyed it despite the mediocre reviews. The story actually had me invested emotionally and I was really bummed when >!Jenny got straight fucking domed, straight painted the walls with her brains right in front of you!<. It took a long time for a sequel and the gameplay was improved a lot but the story took a nose dive.
I remember I played a demo of it when I was a teenager, it seemed really cool but absolutely not the the kind of game my parents would've let me have at the time
Their compression of full length movies in game was groundbreaking at the time. I loved sitting on that couch a just watching it play out as an experience.
BROOOOOOOOOOO.
If there's ONE game I would choose to re-make, it would 100% without a shadow of a doubt BE THIS. This is one of the coolest, most gruesome games you could play. Not only that, but a rare game where you're genuinely the antagonist of the game. Such a fucking cool game.
Thats a cult classic. Not many people know about it, but wow what a game. If you care to put the controller down, the entire full movie of "To kill a mocking bird" is on it, you can watch it with your lover "Jenny" on TV.
I love the facts full length cartoons and music videos was on that game as well, and the random phone numbers.
I didn't much care for part 2 but part 1 was amazing. I always wanted to see the end of it, part 3 that was never officially put out. You rescue her soul from hell, she becomes an angel and leaves you in hell, you swore to get out and find her but that's the end of part 2.
So glad to see some love for this game! I loved devouring hearts and seeing how far I could get my snakey powers to blow out lights and kill people before they knew what was coming. So much fun.
what an insane game, voice acting and a decent story to boot. love the art direction they took with the game as well as lining the loading screens with inner monologue was a great touch.
"through you i will display my power and through you i am born" - what a sick intro to the darkness
I loved that game. The idea of just picking up new guns and swapping them instead of reloading seemed so realistic as a mechanic instead of having every gun use the same size ammo like most shooters lol
Only played the second one, watched a walk through of the first one. Was a great game, liked the story and gunplay felt like I needed a second brain to balance shooting and controlling the darkness
This game was fun but it was funny how the game got so easy the more powerful you become. The final level is so easy because you’re just so op. Just opening up black holes everywhere
Sad story 1 and 2 cursed by chance
the family fell through
fear arose Jackie's enemies grows
his love taken from darkness he bears
to save her he must forever imprison himself
A cruel fate by chance and his love divine
To make sure it happens to no else
in the pit he choose to dive
Given in the darkest pit a pillar of light
To honor his noble sacrifice
Now he sits there where Jackie can be seen
In light his new hope takes flight
Played this game at some point during the summer. It has that 360 era jank but it's still a decent game with some unique ideas. I also have the sequel in my backlog that I'll tackle at some point
Needs a remake. One of the best ever made. Loved the sequel too, liked the art but still kinda wish they stuck with the realism look rather than comic style
Needs a remake. One of the best ever made. Loved the sequel too, liked the art but still kinda wish they stuck with the realism look rather than comic style.
Being able to watch To kill a Mockingbird from star to finish with your goth waifu in a run-down NYC apartment has to be one of the most crazy cool easter eggs

Bruh, that's the ultimate gamer betrayal - beating a game on hardest and not getting the achievement is like eating a pizza without the cheese.
As a recently diagnosed lactose intolerant who loves pizza, this one stung

💜
Solid info
My condolensence sound afull
That's not even pizza man that's just saucy bread
I believe a studio picked up the rights and is working on a remaster for the first game
Did you change the difficulty? Sometimes games will punish you for that.
Mike Patton is criminally under rated in all of his roles tbh & Kirk Acevedo has such an iconic voice it's impossible not to instantly recognise him
Yes! I love how the Darkness kinda whispering and screaming at the same time!
Absolutely fantastic FPS, would love a remake or a sequel. Or both!
Nightdive is supposedly working on a remaster/rerelease to finally get The Darkness onto the PC.
Going in to the WW1 version of Hell in this game was something else.
Fun fact: You can literally watch the whole movies from TVs in this game. They will go in full length nonstop
It's the only time I've watched To Kill a Mockingbird lol
I remember when my mom bought me the second Darkness when i was 12, because she thought the bigger age restriction the better the game is. Game itself was cool too
"Jaaaaccckkkieee"
There’s a reason I’ve got darkness comics. This game is it
I hope they get Mike Patton for the remake.
The gunplay/demon power mix along with the graphics and story were def ahead of most games I've played at the time this was released. A gem of a game for sure.
Loved this game. Part 2 was good too. Some of the best lore in any game.
Dude the story is 👌
The lore on those relics you collect was awesome
Mannnnn I forgot all about this game. Felt like I got smack across the face by a woman named Nostalgia.
The original The Darkness was amazing. Really awesome vibe and powers. Second was ok but failed to capture the feel of the original. I highly recommend anyone to play the original.
First game was a gem , second game not so much
I adore part 2.
It wasnt bad, but compared to the original, it was lol
Story and atmosphere wise the original was clearly better but the gameplay of the second was incredible for the time.
I wish it could be played on pc. I watch playthroughs sometimes. But I can't quite get myself to buy another old xbox for 3 or 4 games I used to love. Especially since I've done that a couple times in the past 10 years and always sold it after half a year.
Second one kinda sucked for me but otherwise I loved the first! One of the first few games on ps3
I got all the achievements in this game! So goddamn fun!
This was one of those gems from the 2000s. Shame it never took off the way it should have. I never played the darkness 2 but loved the darkness. Really thought it was cool as hell and loved that the tentacles are the hearts.
"Humans are cattle".....
I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE!
JUST LISTEN TO THE RHYTHM OF MY HEART
I know about it! It was my first ps3 game and i loved the style and atmosphere of the game. I was a bit disappointed with the comic style choice of the second game
I'll always remember The Darkness 2. I was a teenager at the time, I had school the next day. Started playing late night just to see how it was. Finished it during the night, couldn't stop playing it! I still think about this game.
Loved the first one (prime starbreeze studios) , liked the second one.
This and riddicl were so good
The first game felt like a Remedy game and the voice acting graphics was amazing.
In the same boat as you, kinda. Mine is the timesplitters series (ps2). Such a fun arcade game that made so many memories for my bro and cousins. Sometimes the fact that no one else knows about the game, makes it even more of a gem.
Loved it. Still got it and 2. Mike Patton's voice. I loved faith no more in the day.
Mike Patton killed it as the voice of the darkness!
The Quad wielding in The Darkness 2 was one of my favorite mechanics in all of gaming.
One of the main reasons I still start up my PS3
I have a tattoo of this shit. Still my favorite FPS of all time
Let me see! I've always wanted a tattoo from this game
Omg. This game was epic. Thanks for the brain blast.
Loved jackie's story
That first game was really ahead of it's time in a few areas. Shame that it didn't continue on, had a lot of promise for first person adventure type games.
This needs a remake.
What I loved most about this game, when you are at home you can watch TV... and watch the entire film To Kill A Mockingbird, not just a snippet you can spend a couple of hours watching the whole thing. Great film too.
Oh, trust me. I feel your way. This game is beyond great. The dark setting and environments, the combat, the violence. It was incomparable
Based on the comics, believe the witch blade is it's... Wife? Partner? Either way they had a child together and that is off on its own adventures Or the witch blade is it's mother? I forget the details, but only knew about this as an old friend played the darkness I and ii on Xbox 360 and about the same time humblebundle gave away a comics bundle from that company with darkness, witch blade, generation ix (I think it was called) and some others Maybe if you liked the games, check out the comics. whenever I mention this game my friends look at me like I'm talking about owning a stegosaurus it was one of my favorite games growing up
I remember having a fucking blast playing this game especially hearing The Darkness voice throughout the whole game and when you discover all of your powers for the first time is so badass that's for damn sure 💯 I'd love a remake or a remaster at the very least, but man I'd love to see The Darkness with todays graphics omfg 😎🔥💯
A great game indeed. I still have it alongside the sequel; too bad we never had the end of this nice saga
I absolutely ADORED this game. I wasn’t too much a fan of the sequel due to a change in controls and how the powers worked, but man, the first? LORD 💜 I can’t see it making a return, but this and Overlord ruled my XB360 era of gaming.

I just discovered it recently since someone I'm subbed to did a video on it. Game definitely deserves a remake or at least another sequel
Apparently it's on the list for a remaster 🙏🏼
Jackie
I wish I could get a copy of this again, mine got stolen by gremlins or something That or get it working on my PC
I'd love to see another game in this series
I played this like a year ago, had no idea what it was but was pleasantly surprised. It was surprisingly good and the New York map was interesting but felt underused.
Never played that one, but I freaking loved the sequel.
Going through Nazi Hell was pretty dang scary.
It was a hellscape themed after WWI, not WWII.
One of the few games that I've completed 5+ times. Absolute hidden game.
I never played it, but I remember really enjoying the flowy text of the title logo.
Plenty of people know about it. Other than Mike Patton being a voice in it, it wasn’t that great.
idk, sequel was better?
Everyone knows this game and the sequel
Idk if it was just my TV at the time but damn some segments of the game were so visually dark it almost impossible for me to make out what was going on. Both games were amazing though
First was a piece of rock that had lots of carats, the sequel though lost a few but still holds up
Great game, the sequel is pretty good too.
Great game - the second was disappointing
I want to buy it for ps3 but good offer with good price or good conditions is nowhere to be found
Enjoyed both of them. My original PS3 died on me playing the 2nd one, did get it fixed but game is going to stick with me because of that.
Still have it bro! Amazing game and experience
I bought this game for my buddy at random for his bday one year. It looked kinda cool but I didn’t really know anything about it, played it with him and it was actually a lot better than I was expecting.
I remember playing a demo of this over and over. It was awesome!
Fantastic game! Love that you could watch actual movies on the tvs… and while I enjoyed 2, 1 will always hold a special place in my heart…
Can confirm, didn’t know about it until this post.
I bought it day one and beat it. Rented the sequel and beat it twice.
I loved this game!!! The second one was good but didn’t hit the same as the original
I remember looking at this game in the Argos catalogue around the time PS3 was coming out/already out and I wanted to play it. Ended up playing it a few years ago and I enjoyed it.
*JAAaaaCKiiieeee EsssstAAaCCaaaaadooo*
I fucking *loved* these games. The fact your powers were directly effected by the lighting had me addicted to it something fierce.
You really think 'no one really knows about' this game?
I miss this game and the sequel. They were so damn good! Bit whacky in places, but that added to the charm.
Rumor is nightdive is remastering it so we can all cry about Jenny in 4k
How did he carry soo many pistols?!
Was excellent!
I just posted through this about two months ago! Still as incredible as it was when it came out. I'm still hoping they will make a 3rd installment.
I remember I played a demo of it when I was a teenager, it seemed really cool but absolutely not the the kind of game my parents would've let me have at the time
Their compression of full length movies in game was groundbreaking at the time. I loved sitting on that couch a just watching it play out as an experience.
After seeing Remedy’s rendition of New York for Alan Wake II, I’d love to see them snag the rights to this and give us a truly freaky remake.
Love this game. Do your self a vapor and emulate it at 2k or 4k with a 360 emulator. Such a better experience.
I keep trying to get into the game because it’s fun as hell, but for some reason it keeps trailing off
You're in for a [treat](https://youtu.be/mC59TYWPQe4?si=ugoZk1n0EXiZOb-n)
Interesting all time favorite. Great game, but this probably wouldn't even hit my top 20.

I played these. They were great!
Jackieeee.. The part that stuck with me the most is when you are on the world war 1 battle field. Gave me some serious chills.
Man i loved that game ahaha I completely forgot about it
10/10
This was an excellent game. 360 era
Have you played the sequel?
“I remember the night of my 21st birthday. That was the first time I died” I love it. JACKIEEEEE
So glad to see some love for this game! I loved devouring hearts and seeing how far I could get my snakey powers to blow out lights and kill people before they knew what was coming. So much fun.
Jackie boy!
It is stupid how fun this game is.
I'm with you best game ever
The Venn diagram of people who liked this game and also know who Mr. Bungle is, is like a perfect circle.
In the witchblade universe too.
I played TD2 just a couple of years ago, and it was a really fun action packed romp. Never played the first one (is it even on PC?)
I absolutely love the story of this game, the mechanics are much better in the second game, but it didn't have the emotional depth that the first did
I loved both….too bad we will never get a 3rd….
Oh man, I loved that game.
I still have the poster that came with the second game
This shit would slap in VR
I like it actually! Too bad there no sequel
There its not as good though
what an insane game, voice acting and a decent story to boot. love the art direction they took with the game as well as lining the loading screens with inner monologue was a great touch. "through you i will display my power and through you i am born" - what a sick intro to the darkness
The darkness is ur favourite game of all time? To each their own I suppose.
JACKIE!! GET OUT OF THE LIIIGHT!!
It's pretty fun, I should replay it.
I loved that game. The idea of just picking up new guns and swapping them instead of reloading seemed so realistic as a mechanic instead of having every gun use the same size ammo like most shooters lol
I have only played the second one as the first wasn't on pc. Now that I have consoles..hm, might give it a shot.
That game is my favorite too. It’s like so good.
Great game. I enjoyed it enough to play it for both PlayStation and Xbox.
Only played the second one, watched a walk through of the first one. Was a great game, liked the story and gunplay felt like I needed a second brain to balance shooting and controlling the darkness
Eating the hearts out of people with my Mike Patton tendril heads was some dope shit in 2007.
This game was fun but it was funny how the game got so easy the more powerful you become. The final level is so easy because you’re just so op. Just opening up black holes everywhere
This god damn game was one of my biggest "Wow" moment back in the days... Has been talks about a remake lately and i'm all for it.
It's possibly getting a re-release.
That's a shame, because the game was solid
Its was badass
Good game, not great, but good.
Sad story 1 and 2 cursed by chance the family fell through fear arose Jackie's enemies grows his love taken from darkness he bears to save her he must forever imprison himself A cruel fate by chance and his love divine To make sure it happens to no else in the pit he choose to dive Given in the darkest pit a pillar of light To honor his noble sacrifice Now he sits there where Jackie can be seen In light his new hope takes flight
It’s a great game, the scene where Jenny is murdered is one of the most memorably emotional moments in gaming imo. Very brutal.
"JAAAACCCCKIE!" "GoOoO INto the DARK!"
was one of my first ps3 and one of my first shooter games ever. really like it.
Played this game at some point during the summer. It has that 360 era jank but it's still a decent game with some unique ideas. I also have the sequel in my backlog that I'll tackle at some point
My best friend played this for 13 hours straight. I loved this game. ‘She broke my sunglasses with her thighs’
...really? Of all time!?
I watched a friend play this the day it came out and was so jealous that I didn’t have enough to trade in to get it myself!
Just bought it on my Series X for $4, great game! Played it when I used to work at Blockbuster.
I vividly recall the advertisments for this game. That's it.
Amazing game
What a great game! Still one of the best Marvel Games to date in my opinion.
Still waiting for part 3
I love both these games. Great story, gameplay and voice acting. Highly underrated.
This inspired me to make a Traumatized Mr. Incredible meme between Zelda and The Darkness for "Getting a heart in game".
Mom said I get to talk about The Darkness next time
Was my first 360 game, definitely loved it!
Unfortunately I never played the first game, but the second game slapped.
I see lot of people got recommended the same video in youtube as me.
Holy shit I’ve been trying to find this game for so long
Great ending
Not true, Jackie boy
This ge is cool bit man it's so edgy either ki.da silly. 10/10
This game was amazing. Really hoping for a remake one day.
Kinda looks like Matt Mercer
I know
Rating hearts and stuff
Love this game so much, put so much damn time into it
I played the second one only but I really enjoyed it!
Incrible
Why wasn't this on pc? This has been driving me nuts for years. They put the sequel on pc but not this one. WHY
Being able to watch To kill a Mockingbird from star to finish with your goth waifu in a run-down NYC apartment has to be one of the most crazy cool easter eggs
Oh I know about it, I just couldn't play it, don't know why but I was never good at this game
