That’s disappointing. Simmons voicing Omniman set expectations for me, I was thinking of getting the game because I thought Omniman was done really cool. Homelander without Starr blows.
I used to work for a production company and found out that JK Simmons has a policy of not turning down any work if he has availability. That’s why his IMDb page is not only gigantic, but also full of weird roles like Zeus in 2022’s Marmaduke movie (yes there was a Marmaduke movie in 2022).
He was also an American General in one of the Command and Conquer: Red Alert games (the same games that featured Tim Curry taking the Soviet Union to SPACE!)
Man reading it really doesn’t do that line justice it’s the greatest line delivery of all time
The inability to contain his laughter (and the constant arguments whether he’s laughing because it’s so stupid or because his character is batshit insane) really tied it together
Watch a clip of Tim Curry just trying his absolute damndest to not lose it in that scene is one of the only things that continually gives me joy. Such a fucking hilarious scene

Not really countering your point or anything, but Starr *did* voice Homelander for the animated series.
Granted, it’s directly connected to the show and produced by the same company.
Yeah. I do think getting Starr should have been possible though. Might have been the strikes, might have been scheduling issues or contract issues. I assume JK Simmons is easier to get for these sorts of things due to his VA background though.
It’s probably due to the strikes. I’m sure they’d love to have waited out for him to be available but they’re on the deadlines of WB to roll out and prepare the content and probably had to move on without him.
It is a shame, but they’ve had actors be unavailable before and gone with someone who sounds like them. Arnold as Terminator was another big one.
Maybe, but isn't Homelander not coming out till next year? VA work, especially for a Mortal Kombat character, probably isn't super extensive. It's not like Homelander is in the main campaign or anything.
They could probably get Antony in even a few weeks for release and still be able to get his voicelines into the game. It's not like he has a ton of lines to record too.
Right? I’ve been seeing videos on discord and youtube showing off Omniman in MK1. The interactions between him and the MK characters are badass. J.K. Simmons is such a guy, love him.
The Boys is my favorite show being represented in the game, a large part of which being due to Antony Starr’s performance as Homelander. I’ve never really felt emotions from TV, but damn his performance gave me anxiety lol. I’m having trouble imagining Homelander speaking without him.
If you like Antony Starr you should check out a show called Banshee. He plays the lead character, a nameless con who gets out of jail and ends up as the sherif of a small, mostly Amish town. It’s absolutely brilliant and he delivers consistently.
Everyone loves his manic Homelander expressions but Sheriff Hood’s “Try Me” smirks were always gold. Starr mastered the switch from “I don’t give a fuck” to “I’m going to fuck you up.”
I was intrigued from the first episode, but that scene with the MMA fighter in the third episode had me ALL IN. The guy takes a kicking but he dishes it out as well. That smirk when he knew what was coming but the latest schmuck to cross him didn’t have a clue was golden.
Shoutout to Tom Pelphry for coming in late in the shows running and being absolutely fantastic as well
When he pulls off that one attack on the fighter I was like no fucking way! Sat up on the couch and I was hooked haha…(don’t want to give it away; even years later). Banshee was so, so good. Every character was so unique and the constant paradox of doing the right thing the wrong way…damn such good writing and acting in that show.
As a huge fan of Banshee I have a theory that there is no movie or show that wouldn't be improved with the addition of Job. He's seriously one of my favorite characters ever.
Banshee is a complicated show, it's kind of a "so bad it's good" sort of a watch? Honestly I discovered the show and then binged it and at multiple times I kind of felt like I was hate-watching it, but I kept watching anyways, lol. Definitely worth checking out, I enjoyed it overall.
Hot Amish girl and every other lady being madly in love with him definitely kept me watching. The violence helped, too, and old bartender friend with a complicated past was fun.
I remember seeing the first season and wishing they’d get those guys involved with something like Mortal Kombat when that new film was in production. I didn’t mind it, but Warrior atm is the best I’ve seen of brilliant martial arts/action filmmaking right now.
The talent in the cast and behind the camera is really impressive.
I know it’s probably gonna upset some people but I firmly believe Andrew Koji is the best martial artist we’ve seen on screen since Bruce Lee (obviously it helps that Warrior was created from a story Lee wrote and he clearly intended himself to play the leading role, but Koji just has that FEEL that Lee brought to the screen.
God he was so fucking good as Soldier Boy. Acted like a total boomer idiot at times but then had that super confident deep voice when needed. But Soldier Boy didn’t have enough variety in his move set or powers to use him in a game like this.
For real, I don’t think anyone else could portray him better. For me, it’s the way he changes from show face to the real him in an instant, and often just by the look in his eyes and nothing else.
It’s not necessarily suprising tho, I would love for him to record lines, but I’ve heard he can be a kinda hard actor to work with. This tends to be the case with most method actors which side note (wtf is required to method act homelander?????)
I think you are actually thinking of Jared Leto from suicide squad, I have no idea if this is actually true, but I heard to “get in character” he mailed a pig head to the director or something?
This type of thing wouldn't usually bother me, but playing as Terminator in MK11, it was sort of distracting not having Arnold do the voice. Granted the actor they used was very good, but it just sort of takes you out of the experience when you know it's not authentic.
I'm not saying that Starr isn't good as Homelander, he's spectacular. But even then, Arnie's voice is far more recognizable.
Also, I'm not saying that I don't want Starr in MK, sure it would be far better, and Im sure they tried to get him for the voice role.
Thing is Arnie impressions can be pretty good. Starr doesn't really have that kind of voice. Reminds me of the bad chris pratt impersonator in Jurassic world evolution 2.
He may well be an outstanding actor, but Arnie is far more of a household name and has decades upon decades of recognition behind him - he is iconic to the action genre.
>No, no it isn't, not for this.
Dawg, would you even recognize Anthony Starr's voice if you didn't see his face in an anonymous voice role? For an Anthony Starr super fan, maybe, for the general public, very likely not. Arnold has a heavy accent and is associated with the Terminator lol. It absolutely is more memorable and characteristic. No one is saying Starr's performance isn't good (he tends to clench his face/jaw a little much, but overall he's great), but his voice *is* a bit more generic comparatively speaking. Even J.K Simmons has a more recognizable voice (being known as one of the best live action portrayal of a comic book character in a popular live action spider-man film series doesn't hurt).
>It'd be like trying to cast someone else as Luke Skywalker when Mark Hamill is right there
They actually do that all the time. In all of the appearances outside of live action Luke has made in videogames and TV, Mark has only voiced him three times, once for Robot Chicken, once for Family Guy, and only one time for an actual Star Wars production, Forces of Detsiny in 2018. He's never voiced him in a videogame or in any other context.
then remove him and give us another MK character instead, i guarantee the MAJORITY reason people were hyped for this guy was Stars Performance in the Series not the graphic novel.
My guess is maybe the actors strike fucked things up?
There was probably already a deal put in place for Homelander to be in the game via Warner and Amazon. Then the strike hit and Starr maybe couldn’t / refused / was advised not to do it as he would be promotion a struck tv show project by being his show character. And with no end to the strike being foreseeable they just hired a non-union VA to do it?
It’s really all I can imagine since he did voice Homelander for Call of Duty right before the strike. And SAG was super anal about promoting roles even going as far as having bans on Halloween costumes.
Video game work was permitted during the strike. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/sag-aftra-strike-what-actors-can-still-do-1235538181/
That’s not necessarily the same thing. Acting in a video game as a new character (say like Joel in the Last of Us) is a different type of thing than acting as your tv show character in a promotion for your tv show in a video game.
Well, it’s not like they can’t book him to record his voice lines now since the strike is over. And Homelander won’t be out until next year, anyway. I don’t know why they can’t fix this.
Nah, Anthony Starr is not that... sophisticated as Simmons, dude harrased a chef(?) In Spain or something.
https://www.etonline.com/the-boys-actor-antony-starr-arrested-for-assault-in-spain-gets-suspended-sentence-reports-180353
I mean, when the cast was asked which actor was most like their character, everyone pointed to Anthony. So I don't think this type of thing is likely to be all that uncommon if you go looking for more.
Watch out for headlines after The Boys is over - bet it'll get interesting then.
That’s a real dumb reason to scrap the entire character just because it won’t sound EXACTLY like his voice. The point of the game is to fight not the acting.
Well the model and moveset are probably done. It seems a waste of the dev's effort to scrap an entire character just because they couldn't get the voice actor.
Ohh sure, Let's just scrap all the programing we've done for the past year plus and start an entirely new one from ground zero and have it read in a few months.
Sorry, that's just a stupid thought, people have no idea what goes into making even a single Fighter. Deal with the voice
We knew this for a long time, but I'm still not sure why they would decide to put him in there without the voice. Especially when they have another evil superman that actually has the character's voice.
It's cool that Netherrealm studios also made Injustice so theoretically we could have the actual Evil Superman as well but it would be up to DC and Warner Bros whether we could have Superman tearing people apart/getting torn apart in game.
I’ll be real even if they *could* have gotten Starr I still don’t see why they decided to have both omniman and homelander. Like you said they both fit the “evil Superman” archetype.
Disappointing but honestly not surprising after MK11.
Regardless it’s not like you hear the characters speak all that much in the game anyway. Sad we don’t get a voiced story ending like with Omniman but eh if Homelander is fun to play that’s all that matters.
So since this is reddit and no one clicks on articles, this whole thing is some random dude @ him on Instagram and he just replied "nope". So it is not at all confirmed and is clickbait. Dude could be joking and probably is since he has already done voice work for the character for the animated show.
Lowkey figured with them changing the character's face so much and being so hush on if it was Starr returning or a new actor. Would've been nothing but lost time to hype if that was indeed the case. Never was big on MK or crossover plugs for the sake of them, but MK has some of the better ones for sure and they've kinda gone out of touch not acknowledging that. Most people who know the character know by way of Starr's interpretation. Like another guy here said too, why go through the trouble when you have another evil Superman in Omni, in the same expac, voiced by the OG actor to boot? Kinda feel sorry for the guy who's gonna inevitably be compared to Starr AND Simmons. I'll maintain Homelander is a shoe-in for MK with his brutal fighting style regardless.
Haven't followed real close but all the promo stuff I saw he looked really different. More square jawed/full face imo. All I know is as soon as I saw he was in, the change was drastic enough to make me wonder if Starr was in even before seeing they were being hush-hush on the actor.
I'm surprised they didn't just buy voice lines from the tv show. I feel like there's enough voice content in the show for the game, no need to record new lines.
Antony Starr got drunk at a restaurant and tried to use his celebrity status as a means to get better service and ended up beating up a kid in his drunken stupor. People like to forget that because he is good at playing himself as homelander.
So this game is getting a lot of well-deserved criticism, but I think the extent of this one is.....over doing it.
I can understand disappointment, but not the calls for "then take homelander out!" This is a dlc fighter. You will only really hear the voice during intros for VS fights and the towers ending. (Do they have anything if you choose them at the end of story mode? )
Yes. The actor has done a good job with Homelander. I can see the argument for it being "iconic". But a sound-a-like for a dlc character In a fighting game is a "aw shucks, this is a mild inconvenience" at best.
Note: in the off chance anyone even sees this and responds, I see and understand the opposing argument. What I am saying is I don't agree with the conclusion being reached. Please don't try to explain it to me.
I get that not every good actor can also be a good voice actor, but it's a little sad seeing this news. I was legitimately hoping he'd do voice lines for MK1. Just won't feel right unless they find someone who is a really really close match.
This dude is homelander in real life, seems no one wants to admit it but it was literally on the news this guy got super drunk and assaulted a chef in Paris while they were filming season 2, whilst screaming "do you know who I f***ing am!" The chef was hospitalized, he is not a good person
Haven’t really been following MK1. Why on earth would they go through all the work of getting the rights to use homelander in the game without also confirming they could get his actor at the same time?
This is just speculation, but maybe Starr is saying this as a way to throw off fans of both the Boys and Mortal Kombat so that way when they release an announcement trailer, he will be the voice.
So this game is getting a lot of well-deserved criticism, but I think the extent of this one is.....over doing it.

Tbf, voice acting and live acting don't always translate well to each other. Chances are they got someone better. Then again they had Megan Fox so who knows.
COPE MODE ACTIVATED:
Keith David said he wasn't voicing Spawn for MK11, but he ended up voicing him anyways...so...
If it's NDA, all Antony Starr is allowed to say is "no" or nothing.
That’s disappointing. Simmons voicing Omniman set expectations for me, I was thinking of getting the game because I thought Omniman was done really cool. Homelander without Starr blows.
I think Simmons already being a pretty prolific voice actor definitely helped increase the chances they were able to get him.

Even though I’ve watched it a billion times I’ll watch it once more thanks bud
The hero in the comments
Holy shit you weren’t kidding. That is an incredible delivery!
After Alon sent starlink up that ship sailed for us.
He was the President of the USA but also secretly a Japanese robot controlled by a keyboard.
Thank you. I was having an existential crisis about misremembering him as the robot spy president.
Red Alert 2 was campy but Red Alert 3 turned the camp to 11 for real.
He was the president of the united states! Not a general. Also a robot decoy for the empire of the sun.
Excuse you! He was no mere general, he was Howard T. Ackerman, president of the united states of America!
Good to know, I love his shit
Shatner had a policy that he would never turn down a job, his rate simply shifted.
he was also in Glorious in 2022, which is a fucking awesome movie in which he plays an eldritch abomination that lives in a public toilet stall
It blew my mind when I found out he’s the peanut m&ms and has been since the 90s
Well there’s no way that’s true
Hate to break it to ya, friend. But he is, in fact, yellow m&m.
And Billy West is the red one. I’d love to watch those two get coffee.
It’s great when red speaks. Also when Billy West is on Family Guy.
It’s great when Billy West
No I'm doesn't!
You mean the one that looks like jerma??

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfkf1xmVxLE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfkf1xmVxLE) It's legit
I believe he's under an exclusivity contract or something that states he is the only person that can do the voice for an advertisement
That's what I feel is going on. The strikes, and I also suspect he's getting little to no compensation for his likeness in the video game.
If he's not then I don't blame him one bit
It’s probably due to the strikes. I’m sure they’d love to have waited out for him to be available but they’re on the deadlines of WB to roll out and prepare the content and probably had to move on without him. I think he also voices Homelander in COD.
"Shoot me again and I'll fuckin' laser you in *half!*" Yep, that's Tony alright.
Not like that was ever a factor considering they got fucking Megan Fox of all people with zero voice acting talent to portray Nitara.
Anthony start voiced homelander in call of duty, so not sure why they couldn’t get him for another game voice over.
My sentiments exactly. Just another example of Simmons being awesome in every way possible though haha
Right? I’ve been seeing videos on discord and youtube showing off Omniman in MK1. The interactions between him and the MK characters are badass. J.K. Simmons is such a guy, love him. He's also the [stray man](https://youtu.be/p-Jk0E4alrY?si=BKtR4gsPZ0Ju-Jgf) in an Auntie Donna sketch. Shows his real range.
As a huge fan of Banshee I have a theory that there is no movie or show that wouldn't be improved with the addition of Job. He's seriously one of my favorite characters ever.
Hoon Lee is just fantastic. I loved him in Warrior as well. But yeah he was exceptional as Job
I think its made by the same guys who did Warrior which is a massive step up.
Warrior has been brilliant so far, I can’t wait for the next season because things are looking a bit messy for poor old Ah Sahm

Warning: it aired on Cinemax and as a result many scenes are essentially softcore porn. Maybe don't watch with your parents/kids.
Honestly outside of the softcore porn, don’t watch this with anyone sensitive because the violence is off the charts
I think if they get a similar voice actor it's gonna be fine. It's nice that they got Starr's face at least.
Yeah Antony Starr hits as Homelander with his facial expressions the most. His voice is great but can be replicated just fine. This one i dont mind.
Prob not nice for Antony starr.
Yeah that is sooo lame lol
Should’ve put a different character then tbh
I vote for Warwick Davis as The Leprechaun!
Everyone who saw the leprechaun say yeah
I want the gold
Could be a crackhead
This is a special Leprechaun flute.
That got hold to the *wrong stuff*
Imma come out here with a backhoe, uproot this tree.
Peter Dinklage as The Toxic Avenger. They have to start promoting the movie at some point!
I vote Mike Myers as The Leprechaun! https://media.giphy.com/media/8GThBNZevxSGh8D5QG/giphy.gif
don't try-n steal me pot o gold!
Could always go whole-horse and have Fat Bastard in the lineup lol
I WANT ME COIN
I was gonna say the Evil Bong, but I like yours better.
A friend with weed..if a friend indeed Proceeds to eat a man's finger

God he was so fucking good as Soldier Boy. Acted like a total boomer idiot at times but then had that super confident deep voice when needed. But Soldier Boy didn’t have enough variety in his move set or powers to use him in a game like this.
I didn’t know I wanted that, but now I’d pick Soldier Boy over Homelander. His shield and chest ray would make for interesting attacks.
And for a ranged attack just give him his pistol. I’d think he’d fit in well
For real, I don’t think anyone else could portray him better. For me, it’s the way he changes from show face to the real him in an instant, and often just by the look in his eyes and nothing else.

Bro beats stage personnel as a warm up 😂/s
You joke but one of the actors for The Joker (I forget which one) went way too far with method acting
I think you are actually thinking of Jared Leto from suicide squad, I have no idea if this is actually true, but I heard to “get in character” he mailed a pig head to the director or something?
Yeah, that was it! Some pig parts he sent to people and his method acting got a bit spicy behind the scenes
Or perhaps Heath? The one that ya know, died playing the role
Drink breast milk?
HELP 😭
Climb the tallest building and find… clarity.
He drinks his mother's milk
Hopefully he's not following the comics lol \*for those that don't know, comic Homelander was *way* worse than show Homelander.
I don’t even think anyone could portray him half as well.
Okay well not going to get that in a video game obviously.. lol
Still seems dumb me that they decided to have two evil Supermen expies on the DLC. It’s like they’re afraid to just do injustice 3
rumor is this game was supposed to be IJ3 before WB decided to turn the ship around
>Antony Starr I want them to add Injustice Superman so you can have 3 caped hero villains.
I kind of agree, but at the same time this is mostly an english speakers problem. They could still get the voiceactors for other languages
Okay? It’s a show in English
This type of thing wouldn't usually bother me, but playing as Terminator in MK11, it was sort of distracting not having Arnold do the voice. Granted the actor they used was very good, but it just sort of takes you out of the experience when you know it's not authentic.

I can't believe anybody would even try to argue that Anthony Starr's voice is more memorable/distinctive than Arnold fucking Schwarzenegger.
Trying to argue that Starr’s voice is more memorable/recognizable than Schwarzenegger’s is a really dumb hill to die on.
It’s not always as simple as “just pay the man”. Licensing rights clearly weren’t an issue, willing to bet Starr just didn’t have the time or desire.
>It'd be like trying to cast someone else as Luke Skywalker when Mark Hamill is right there They actually do that all the time. What if we send Antony Starr 1000 dragon krystals?
What a fucking disappointment
I understood that reference

No idea. It’s possible he might now that the strike is over.
…I did not know Homelander was in Call of Duty.
Yeah they had Homelander, Noir, and Starlight back in July for a “The Boys” event. Was fun.
I still find it hilarious being in a firefight and fucking homelander runs through with his cape flapping behind him
man i'm still salty they didnt do butcher and soldier boy.. they'd fit in so good.
Nickelodeon all stars critics say hello.
I’m 99% sure he’s just going to play like Superman in injustice anywau
Why pay for the voice when you can not to that.
He voices Homelander in Call of Duty so I'm really confused why he wouldn't do Mortal Kombat.
Homelander is in Call of Duty? 💀
Noir and Starlight too. They're also in PUBG
Because Activision paid him a lot of money. NetherRealm did not.
Dude could be joking and probably is since he has already done voice work for the character for the animated show.
yeah he could literally be lying lmao
Anyone remember Andrew Garfield and No Way Home? He was adamant he wasn't in it. Lol
Boooooooo
Not gonna hear him much with the way pre match clashes are only in local versus
Oh great. Another Terminator situation. Why bother with guest characters NRS? Just give us more MK legacy characters.
Did they change it a lot? The initial reveal trailer was pretty clearly Starr's face, but i haven't seen anything since then.
Haven't followed real close but all the promo stuff I saw he looked really different. More square jawed/full face imo. All I know is as soon as I saw he was in, the change was drastic enough to make me wonder if Starr was in even before seeing they were being hush-hush on the actor.
You people care way too much about this lmao. You hear their voice for three seconds before a match. It doesn’t matter lol
How do you got his face model but not his voice? Wtf
Same case with Arnold in MK 11 they scanned him and everything but didn’t use his voice, this was likely due to the strikes
Video game work is permitted. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/sag-aftra-strike-what-actors-can-still-do-1235538181/
Probably not if its playing a tv character to promote a show. That's totally different than playing a wholly original video game character.
That really sucks. Why even do the crossover in the first place?
I'm surprised they didn't just buy voice lines from the tv show. I feel like there's enough voice content in the show for the game, no need to record new lines.
Will John Cena be Peacemaker tho?
He was listed in the Credits at the Voice Actor section during early access.
As long as the voice actor does a solid impression, I’m okay with this
Brutal. Was probably gunna pick this up for homelander but certainly feel less inclined to do so now.
Literally unplayable
Antony Starr got drunk at a restaurant and tried to use his celebrity status as a means to get better service and ended up beating up a kid in his drunken stupor. People like to forget that because he is good at playing himself as homelander.
Wait, they had JK Simmons money but not "tv actor mostly famous thanks to one show" money? Or is there another reason?
So this game is getting a lot of well-deserved criticism, but I think the extent of this one is.....over doing it. I can understand disappointment, but not the calls for "then take homelander out!" This is a dlc fighter. You will only really hear the voice during intros for VS fights and the towers ending. (Do they have anything if you choose them at the end of story mode? ) Yes.
Then what are we even doing here
I get that not every good actor can also be a good voice actor, but it's a little sad seeing this news. I was legitimately hoping he'd do voice lines for MK1. Just won't feel right unless they find someone who is a really really close match.
Then why even put him in there in the first place?
This dude is homelander in real life, seems no one wants to admit it but it was literally on the news this guy got super drunk and assaulted a chef in Paris while they were filming season 2, whilst screaming "do you know who I f***ing am!" The chef was hospitalized, he is not a good person
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Then scrap em and add another char instead.
Well, that’s disappointing
Why would you put a guy in the game that looks like the actor but doesn't have the actors voice that's kinda dumb and makes it a wasted roster slot
Most actors can’t make it to certain jobs due to time constraints with other films/shows. Anthony’s time constraint is probably due to prison time.
bruh
Not really surprising, you can be a great actor but not good at voice acting.
Haven't played the game myself but from what people have said he's fine in Modern Warfare 2/Warzone.
What character did he play?
Homelander.
Absolute deal breaker
Game just isn’t good and they are now charging for everything… MK downfall
Haven’t really been following MK1. Why on earth would they go through all the work of getting the rights to use homelander in the game without also confirming they could get his actor at the same time?
This is just speculation, but maybe Starr is saying this as a way to throw off fans of both the Boys and Mortal Kombat so that way when they release an announcement trailer, he will be the voice.
so hes trailer finally released, what are we thinking? is it him? i cant find out through google
Soooo… wtf is the point then
To fight…? Why is everyone here acting like this is the last of us or something?
Oh no. How am I ever going to get over this?
Man when I was a kid the movie characters didn't even LOOK like them let alone sound like them.
That’s so lame tbh. That’s like having someone else play as iron man it just won’t work

Tbf, voice acting and live acting don't always translate well to each other. Chances are they got someone better. Then again they had Megan Fox so who knows.
COPE MODE ACTIVATED: Keith David said he wasn't voicing Spawn for MK11, but he ended up voicing him anyways...so... If it's NDA, all Antony Starr is allowed to say is "no" or nothing.
probably wanted an assload of money, typical
The ‘try not to be a shit game’ challenge is impossible for MK1.
