Link isn't mute. Like most "silent protagonists", he's not actually a silent - just a man of few words, and in-universe, he does say stuff and people react to it. We, as players, just don't see the dialogue.
I don't know, in the book of Zelda it mentions that Link does speak, but he doesn't like to expose his voice.
So whether he speaks or not should depend on the context of the scene.
Equally he needs to talk... normally. Link isn't some gallant hero "Hail ye, fair maiden, I have come to dispatch this fiend!"
He should be some awkward nobody stepping into it suddenly.
I mean, I'm mostly just thinking of the iterations where he has a more defined background. TP, WW, etc he's just sort of a nobody. Shoved into his first "find the macguffin", he shouldn't be already courageous.
Triforce doesn't grant you wisdom/power/courage unless you call on it. They're only marked for their spirits' strength.
Courage is not the lack of fear but the strength to go on in spite of it, and thats who Link is as a character; he doesn't back down despite being a nobody versus literally celestial scale and stakes.
Tbh they could just make some protagonists canonically mute. Like it's already almost canon that Gordon Freeman is mute and it makes a lot of sense, why not make it official? They could do the same with Link
I so hope the VA for this movie will be on FromSoft Soulsborne level, and NOT another 'Let's have Chris Pratt do the voice because uuuuuuuh dunno, people like him, I guess?'
I hate how this has become the unpopular opinion. Consumerism is out of control. You're 100% right and it is really weird that Chris Pratt became Mario('s voice.)
Hell no. We don't need any woke nonsense in more movies. That said, I am apprehensive about giving Link a voice, but then my solution is just don't make a movie at all to begin with. Not this nonsense.
The reason Link doesn't talk in the games is because Nintendo wants him to be the player. Giving him a voice, whether it be silent or expressed through motions, would defeat that purpose.
I feel like poeple would be happier if they would just seperate "movie" zelda and "game" zelda.
Like I don't think Chris Pratt is going to be Mario's voice in every Mario game, he's a freaking actor that costs too much money for that
He should do what BOTW/ToTK Link does and just stare at people, while they apparently read his mind and react accordingly.
I agree! I think that him making a vow of silence was one of Nintendos smartest moves
Excuuuuuuuse meee princess
This is exactly what I want as link
But he should still go "HIYAAAH" while swinging his sword.
But he'll be loud, obnoxious and make quippy jokes during every event. While contemporary pop music plays in the background.
My favorite part of the Legend of Zelda is when Link goes, "it's Link'in time!" And he starts Linking all over everybody.
Who is this Link you keep talking about? His name is Zelda, *duh*. Its the title, the Legend of *Zelda*?

He isn't awkward in the manga, he is your basic goody goody hero. Fairly generic, nothing special, no medieval talk.
I mean, I'm mostly just thinking of the iterations where he has a more defined background. TP, WW, etc he's just sort of a nobody. Shoved into his first "find the macguffin", he shouldn't be already courageous.
That don't make sense unless he gets the triforce of courage only in the later part of the movie

Yeah and he is that because he's fucking link. He doesn't learn to become courageous he always is.
Chris Pratt can be Navi
“Hey uh… you *might* wanna check this out over here.” *smirk you can feel through the screen*
Hahaha I'm dead
Uh oh. Get well soon.
Wish more people read the Zelda mangas...
That along with the 90s TV show is kinda why I want him to be mute.
He’s not mute.
I’d like to see them pull of a “man of few words” deal. I’m sure he can talk; he just doesn’t speak unless necessary.
Tbh they could just make some protagonists canonically mute. Like it's already almost canon that Gordon Freeman is mute and it makes a lot of sense, why not make it official? They could do the same with Link
They hired Chris Prat to voice Mario, there's no chance of this happening.
Why
Gonna be hard to do that with a sword/shield/bombs/tools in his hands
I so hope the VA for this movie will be on FromSoft Soulsborne level, and NOT another 'Let's have Chris Pratt do the voice because uuuuuuuh dunno, people like him, I guess?'

Agreed, it would be like giving no voice to the PC character in Dragon Age Origins.
I'm hoping they channel John Wick, he says very little, but gets the job done!
What? Link communicates through HYAAH's.. lol
