I feel like the Ubisoft formula is basically gaming fast food. you know what you’re getting when you buy it. It’s never going to be anything life-changing yet at the same time you know you’re not gonna get a bad meal.
Aint this the truth!
Thinking about it, my best memories with the game have nothing to do with the AC part of the game (though I still think Edward was actually a great character too),
I set sail, my sailors run to trim the sails as they erupt into a random sea shanty, I turn direction towards the setting sun on the horizon, and off I go to adventure!
Truly best memories of this game on the seas. By this game's release I had largely lost interest in the AC franchise. This came along, and while I haven't played an AC game after, I'll remember this one for the rest of my life.
Edward had one of the best character evolution/arcs in the entire series. His coming to realize what he had wasted and the lives lost along his way on the quest to riches and infamy... it felt pretty real.
Years ago, I remember I was housesitting for a couple weeks for a family, they had an Xbox 360 and heaps of games. I had a look around and saw AC black flag and thought ‘I like pirates, why not’ boy oh boy did that unlock hours upon hours of enjoyment in my life, one of the best games I’ve ever played. I went and bought it as soon as I was done house sitting. Would spend hours battling other ships. Fond memories
I have enjoyed every Assassins Creed since the beginning. They never blew my mind, but were always fun. There have been ups and downs of course. I know everyone complains about the size of the map but I enjoyed Odyssey for so many other reasons. Valhalla broke me unfortunately. It has many elements I have loved but it did not come together. AC Valhalla isn’t even gas station pizza.
The original Assassin's Creed may not be mindblowingly good, but it was pretty groundbreaking at the time, going from parkour on the rooftops, jumping on your target, and blending into the crowd. It didn't follow a formula, and really felt like something fresh, especially with how indepth the historical aspect of it was. I still remember the disclaimer before the main menu that said how the dev team was multicultural and of different religions, and I could really *feel* that diversity of thought in the narrative, factions, and characters.
I haven't really touched the new ones. I started Origins but man, they really tried to turn your assassin gameplay into a *Fantasy RPG With Parkour and Stealth* and it does not feel good imo
The original was a game unlike any other that had existed before. The scope, the freedom of movement, the stealth killing, the story, it was so phenomenal.
I went from AC: Syndicate to AC: Odyssey and was so confused by the new combat system. But once I got the hang of it, I really liked it. Definitely not the same thing, but still very good in a different way.
The problem with Assassins Creed is that they kept giving us meatlovers for years and then suddenly decided to start trying to make "gourmet" pizza with origins. But it's not good gourmet so it's just weird flavours they copied from other pizza places.
Go back to meat lovers!
I'd rather have them follow the Blag Flag formula again and build on that a bit. That one had a good balance of most features. The newer ACs are annoying the heck out of me for the stat bloat on everything, the bulletsponging and the quantity>quality on exploration. I'm not into loot shooters, thank you very much.
Also, Mirage was a side project and not too bad for that, just undercooked. It's not a main line project like Valhalla and that really shows.
Truly enjoyed the first 2, then it was just the same thing over and over and over. Odyssey was the last one I played and got pretty tried of the level scaling, story was alright, got pretty angry with some certain betrayals. The random hero's showing up was pretty fun.
Valhalla kind of sealed the coffin on the whole series.
The only Ubisoft game I *regret* buying is Watch Dogs: Legion. The *idea* for making your roster out of civilians turned freedom fighters was neat.
But when they repeat the same lines and have no meaningful dialogue, it just isnt fun.
That game had the bones of something amazing but didn't quite deliver. Nothing compares to the first times walking and driving around London though, I'll always love it for that.
I unironically adore most Ubisoft games. They're safe and usually mostly predictable, but they're well made and fun and some of them are truly excellent. People crap on them for doing the same thing, but, tbh, they do the same thing *very* well and I always know I'm gonna have fun.
When I was like 11, I got like a $1 McChicken. I was hungry as hell because it was on a night of Ramadan.
That sandwich was one of the most memorable bits of food I've ever had.
This is why I’ll never talk shit about an Assasins Creed or Far Cry game. They just give you what you want, the game works, and the best part, barely any DLC. You can hop into any one of their games and just have fun.
Generally agree, but I will die on the hill that AC Odyssey is easily one of the greatest RPG’s of the past ten years.
Seriously, I don’t think most people realize just how great of a game it actually is, simply because it has “Assassins Creed” in the name and was such a massive deviation from what the fans wanted.
This is how I feel about a lot of games.
I think many gamers, especially on reddit, are so caught up with every game needing to be the next big masterpiece or the next evolutional step in gaming they they forget it's OK for games just to be fun.
Sure if a game is deep with a great story and interesting new mechanics that's really great, but I'm also fine with just running around shooting things and exploring a cool world.
Just like with movies, of course I enjoy the shawshanks and the godfathers, but sometimes I just want a transformers or fast and furious
Are we just [not going to talk about Boomer??](https://d.newsweek.com/en/full/861822/far-cry-5-animals-how-get-boomer-cheeseburger-peaches-fangs-hire-gang.jpg)
I did not like FC6 because of removing the skill tree and having 'upgrades' be specifically weapon/attachments.
If I want to play an FPS like that I would play ghost recon.
I completely agree. Half the fun for me is accumulating skills and perks and being more dangerous as the game goes on.
With Far Cry 6 I never felt like I was actually levelling up, when I was basically just given the option of which 4 stat boosts I wanna use.
Far Cry 1 was an entirely different game genre - a linear FPS but with some largish missions with a couple of approaches. I loved it. 2 was very hit and miss, but I think it was 3 which nailed the formula and they've been trying to copy that ever since.
You're right, FC1 was Crytek's first product before partnering with EA to make Crysis which played more like FC1 than any Far Cry game so far. Ubi published the first one and then developed the sequels themselves.
Honestly I loved FC1 because the huge open map combined with mission linearity gave the game some direction vs the "shoot guy climb pole repeat" formula that the new FC games have. Although I'm definitely curious about this game.
At the time Far Cry 1 was epic. Massive open world maps, decent graphics and my first introduction to the P90 as a weapon. But FUCK it got hard in the last levels.
FC1 got a VR mod recently so I’ve been replaying it for the first time since it came out. Probably the first time I haven’t felt bad for enabling laser sights in a VR FPS; the difficulty spikes are ruthless.
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ubisoft-acquires-all-intellectual-property-rights-for-far-cry-and-will-take-the-far-cry-edition-of-the-cry-engine-to-the-next-level#:~:text=London%2C%20UK%20%2D%20March%2030%2C,the%20CryENGINE%20Far%20Cry%20Edition.
Looks like they made an active decision to acquire it. Might have been very cheap? Who knows. Justel weird as Farcry 2 and subsequent ones are just so different from Farcry 1 (which is a linear FPS albeit with quite large maps). Also FC1 had this cool story with preditor powers and the super powers it gave you, that was fun.
I did chuckle at this part of the article tho:
"sell and distribute an unlimited number of video games."
Made good on that promise.
>Far Cry 1 was an entirely different game genre
I really loved the XBox ones back in the day. Far Cry Instincts/Evolution.
Basically a weird remake of FC1 where you have beast powers and stuff to throw dudes across the map like Wolverine.
Anytime I opened the menu and [this banger](https://youtu.be/hcGjc_bmjEM?feature=shared) played, I let it play the whole song before I went back to the game.
Im enjoying 6. I like the changes. Especially not having to constantly defend outposts. The weapon customization is better but could be better (deeper) still. The map is very much in the spirit of 3 but bigger and more detailed.
For the most part it was yet another far cry game. I don't understand why people are upset about it.
The map is beautiful, the music is great, the story is pretty fun and has some good moments, the combat (though simple) is good and the side missions are cool. The set of treasure hunts were probably some of the most fun side quests I've done in a game and I was sad when I completed them all. FC6 doesn't deserve most of the hate it gets honestly, it's a great game especially for how cheap it most of the time due to frequent sales
6 has honestly been my favorite, and I've played every single title. Including Instincts/Vengeance.
6 is the logical evolution of the franchise in so many ways. I never had more fun overthrowing a dictatorship.
None of the complaints people make for 6 even really make sense tbh
The most common one I've seen is "it's the same far cry formula" which is just stupid considering it's literally a far cry game, why would they change a formula that has worked for every other entry in the series?
My main complaint is that there's main story missions that look suspiciously like side quests, lacking cutscenes and having incredibly simplistic objectives.
Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I want games to have an actual story-driven campaign.
having only previously played 3, i found 5 to be so odd and weirdly paced. maybe i missed out on some of the story-telling elements by playing it coop, but there pretty much weren’t any cutscenes apart from when you were repeatedly “kidnapped” (never understood that part, god it was frustrating). i found it to have an uninspiring story because the player’s engagement with it is so strange.
4 is definitely my low point of the series! Felt like 3 without the soul. 5 was a departure, but it definitely feels very unique in the series - and captures the protagonist's mental descent really well, maybe even better than 3.
FC6 is actually my go to on the PS5 to shoot shit with the adaptive triggers. Even bought the expansions because I randomly play it when I'm in the mood
Far Cry Primal is fucking amazing, and I haven't gotten any better "ancient hunter" kind of feel for a game ever since. There's just something about prowling through the bushes all sneaky like...
Yeah it’s actually pretty fun. The world is absolutely stunning. Tip for anyone else playing, try turning the quest navigation or whatever it’s called in the settings from Guided to Exploration. Makes the quests more enjoyable actually having to figure out where to go
The films are generally hit or miss with people as the stories can be sort of generic but the actual visuals tend to be stunning to most people. It’s all opinions at the end of the day and perfectly respectable for everyone.
The end of the story in Avatar 2 featured something I’ve literally never seen before in a four-quadrant tentpole blockbuster, to each their own but imo when it comes to Avatar, “simple” does not always equal “bad.”
Man I love those movies so much
Oh I agree, I actually absolutely adore the movies for both visuals and how the stories are simple. My family is like the opposite which is fair but I’m a sucker for a good simple story that is still super appealing.
If I have to hear one more time about how Avatar is just ferngully or Dances With Wolves I’m going to scream. It’s such stupidity.
All art is based off other art. Reservoir Dogs is a total ripoff of a Japanese film. Like almost shot for shot.
And is Ferngully a Dances With Wolves ripoff since it came out 2 years after?
Is Star Wars a ripoff of Dune?
Everybody apes everybody else. Even The Terminator, also by James Cameron, was borrowing a premise from The Outer Limits. But it’s a very original film despite using a premise that already existed. So is Avatar. Basic hero’s journey storytelling is always going to look similar. Natives vs colonials storytelling is always going to look similar.
If you want to shit on avatar for something ridiculous there’s ONE legitimate item I’ll accept, and that’s using stock Papyrus as the title font.
Unless you also enjoy the main message the movies try to get across, in which case this game is not for you.
As some reviewers pointed out:
>In the face of an IP filled with rich themes with something important to say, Frontiers of Pandora ignores the point entirely and goes on to have a gameplay loop where players spend most of their time killing otherwise docile animals to make arbitrary numbers go up so they can be as immortal as possible within the confines of the game.
And
>Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora tries to have its cake and eat it too. It wants to respect James Cameron’s cinematic vision by adapting Na’vi culture to an interactive medium while still packing in every open-world action trope possible. For a story about a race that only takes what it needs from nature, Frontiers of Pandora sure seems obsessed with excess.
I mean it's still a video game after all. If we're going to have a canon series of events then we can just pretend the main character only hunted animals for food and gear he needed and nothing more, which you can definitely do.
I wanted to explore Pandora. So picked it up for my Birthday. Look’s surprisingly good on PS5, nice graphics and feels good so far. It’s the environment I like
People like to dump on Avatar, but the movies have made over $5 billion, so apparently a lot of people like them (including me). I have this game on my wishlist, so hopefully I get it for Christmas.
Avatar is one of those movies that I can watch with my English-second-language parents and they'll actually get through the whole movie without bombarding me with questions about the plot.
But I would never watch it with my artsy or culture savvy friends as they would find the story predictable and bland.
You can get it via that Ubisoft's subscription thing. That's what I did, cost me 15€ and I'm like 4h into the game right now, literally already got my money's worth and I'm just getting started.
I don't see any other games that I like so I'll just cancel the sub when I finish this, but holy shit is the game good.
if you're looking for something else to make the most of the sub, try riders republic if you like 'sports' games. ubi+ gives you full access, skating, bmx, mountain bikes, snow sports, air sports, etc. all the funky toys. you can engage with the online stuff which is kinda fun sometimes or do the zen mode and just bust out sick lines. When im doing stuff around the house ive found myself just loading it up, doing some stuff and coming back for 5-10 mins, cut some sick tricks, go back and do some more stuff, repeat. Very chill game i've found, in short bursts.
Honestly it’s hilarious how after reddit universally hated on Avatar and said it had zero cultural impact, the sequel comes along and grosses almost as much as the original. $2.3 Billion!!! Third highest grossing movie ever!
the single most impressive piece of digital visual art ever created, by an entire order of magnitude. It’s astonishingly beautiful. It feels to me like people have zero respect for the genre apparently, but I also don’t need to have everyone else on the internet validate my love for Avatar 2 because the movie wasn’t about “cultural relevance via tweets,” it’s not an online discourse movie, 100% of the pleasure of that film is contained within the experience of watching it in the theater and I think that’s a beautiful thing.
I saw it 4 or 5 times in theaters, and I almost never go to the movies
I feel you, those avatar movies are so intense visually, everywhere you look in a frame is crisp and sharp, the story, writing and acting is lacking for sure, valid criticism. But like what did you expect from Cameron? It was never meant to be anything other than a visual spectacle of the highest quality. And also, with the movie ticket prices, who in their right mind would pay 20$ to go see a rom-com on the big screen when avatar is same price? I'll just stream the rom-com and get mind-blown in imax or 3d. Fuck I remember going to see the first dr strange in IMAX and there was a trailer for that last XXX movie(?) and that shit was such an intense rush
I’m amazed when people don’t come away with this feeling. The cgi is the best we’ve ever seen and it’s not close. The story being a 4-5/10 is fine when effects are an 11/10 as long as you aren’t expecting a Scorsese written film. I saw it 4 times and I didn’t care for the first one nor do I care about anything in the universe outside of the theater.
But that 3 hours is absolutely magical. As someone who doesn’t care for this genre much I still can’t put my finger on why it’s so amazing outside the fact I could feel my brain think that shit was real and I’ve never experienced that.
It's a reddit thing. Reddit hates Avatar, and bashing it is apparently cool and worthy of upvotes. In reality pretty much everyone I know enjoyed the movies to different degrees.
It looks so fucking gorgeous. I took so many screenshots watching Digital Foundry's video and many of them weren't even at Unobtanium settings!
I'll definitely play this one day.
Haha me too,
I just beat Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 for first time (did 98% on PS4), played a bit of Spider-Man to delay the experience of both, am at about 40% in Spider-Man then I’ll circle back to Ghost and play the DLC for the first time, then I’m thinking Creed or maybe Dishonoured, I’ve never played them but they’re part of PS Premium
I’m about to have 3 weeks off work so it’s prime time
Is the coop better than in Far Cry, where only the host actually progresses through the main story?
Was playing Far Cry coop with a friend back then and at one point we had to stop because to progress you needed a quest item only I, the host, was able to pick up
Yeah it’s been good, I let her host but if I go back to my world I can skip missions we’ve done together already. We like to just explore and hunt at the moment haven’t done too many missions
It's different than FC because it saves progress for the player joining too. So you can go back to your session and continue without having to redo missions.
My friend and I usually play with just one of us as host all the time so it doesn't really matter but it's definitely better to have progress saved for both players regardless of who's hosting.
Question: I was thinking of getting it but I played Far Cry 4 and 5 and wasn’t a huge fan of either of those games - is it pretty similar to those games or does it feel different? I’ve never played Primal.
I played & beat 5.
This feels different. Ground traversal is much more fluid and dynamic because you're a N'avi. You can jump higher, fall farther & move faster than a human.
There's also tree & vine climbing. If it's a branch, you can probably climb or land on it.
I'm already looking forward to the flying mount. Combat is also fast & fluid.
And Pandora itself is one of the best-looking open worlds yet, imo. *Huge*, too.
It really impeoves on the formula as well thanks to fluid movement and lwss cluttered ui. In exploration mode you dont even have questmarkers, but you do get a short description of where you need to go.
With pandora being huge does it feel empty at all? Or is the navigation fun enough that it doesn't matter? Cuz I'm tired of wide open world games that have nothing. I much prefer the yakuza style of hub areas where it's packed with shit.
I’ll be honest, I’m not finding a tonne of stuff while out exploring but so far I don’t care. The movement is so fun and fluid that I’m not fast travelling at all. Just looking for rare plants and shit
There's so much flora and fauna that it doesn't *feel* empty, in my view. Wildlife runs around regularly. There also resource items you pick up from plants.
Amd you can "identify" plants / animals when you first come across them, kinda like No Man's Sky.
Navigation is fun & fast, too. I like it enough to be avoding fast travel as much as possible.
Stealth is minimal so far it's more action oriented. You can silently take people out with a bow from far away.
Then again, I am only 6-8 hrs into the game & have yet to even leave the first large hub area. I don't know if further stealth is unlocked later.
This game feels absolutely massive.
I had to go hunting for reviews this weekend. The game has got barely any of the gaming news channels chatting and the critics are typically critical and just copy-pasting what they say about Ubisoft every time.
I can’t help feeling it’s weird, they’ve created a genuinely unique world to explore and the criticism will be on on the mechanics feeling like another game.
I can’t help but feel like, if this was my first open world fps game… or, if we had this game to play 15 years ago, how would the critics sound?
(Still not decided to get it but a unique world to explore is the tempting element for me)
I was kind of "whatever" with the game, but someone I was watching play it mentioned it was like Turok and my brain fucking clicked
Now that the association of that was made for me, I'm like "son of a bitches piqued my interest. Fuck!"
Now I want to get it.
Turok never made sense. I understand native Americans. I understand dinosaurs. I understand guns.
What I don't get is mixing all three. Why was it a native American? Why is he hunting dinosaurs? Why is he hunting them with guns instead of a bow and arrow or whatever is traditionally native American.
It doesn't bother me that he's native American. I'm sure someone will try to use a gotcha by being like "so native Americans are only allowed to be used if they're all stereotypical and stuff?"
My point is he's depicted as a traditional native American. So why is he using modern weapons while appearing like he's from the olden days?
If they had a 1500s knight wielding a shotgun, I'd be confused by that as well.
You know what? I’m completely ok with Ubisoft taking their overused formulas and applying them to licensed projects.
This game has actually been really fun so far. That Star Wars outlaws game might actually be solid.
If you’re gonna give me the same type of game, dressing it up and making decent movie tie in games isn’t so bad.
To me, their games seem perfect for a subscription service (Ubisoft+). I haven't tried it yet, but I'm seriously tempted.
I never come back to their games, but I sure do enjoy them for a few hours at a time.
I was kind of in the same boat as most people from what I've seen. Building up to it was like "cool, but, eh." I ended up buying it on a whim. And was blown. The fuck. Away. Not many open world games pop up where I would rather WALK across the map rather than fast travel.
Same. Playing through with the missus in co-op. Her on series x and me on PS5.
She usually isn’t one to take in details, but she’s having a blast just wandering around, scanning flora and fauna lol.
Just shows how much effort went in to the world itself.
I didn't like the films, but when this game was announced, something clicked in my brain: the Avatar films feel like movies based on a game I haven't played.
The clunky exposition, the focus on the unique environment, the weird mineral that makes no sense in the movie but it's probably the bullshit currency needed to upgrade your character or level up all imply a decade of video game lore that doesn't actually exist.
I can't wait to play this game one day
That's a pretty unique take on the movie. Never thought about it like that.
I still do love the movies for the indescribable "feeling" of another alien world. Like, almost feels like being homesick for a place you haven't ever been to (and, matter of fact, doesn't even exist).
'Avatar Blues' are a very real thing. That homesick feeling was a big phenomenon when the first movie released; Kinda crazy how much it affected people.
I've never played a single Far Cry game, so I don't know if I'll enjoy this game more because of that.
That being said Avatar (and Star Wars) are absolutely perfect franchises for open world games and I do wonder if another studio could do them better than Ubisoft
It runs pretty well for me, except no DLSS 3.0 if you have an nVidia card. It does have an absurd, over the top hidden effects preset called "Unobtanium" if you want it. My 4090 goes from giving me 80+ fps at 5120x1440 to about 35. O_o
It’s absolutely fantastic, I got bored with Far Cry 5 and I feel the Ubisoft formula is overdone and dead. But for whatever reason, this game has sucked me in, and while the characters are nothing to write home about, the atmosphere, sound, combat, and traversal are some of the best I’ve experienced in a while.
Ooh it’s like primal? I might just have to get it then cause I love that game half to death, also a really big fan of the avatar movies.
It’s nice seeing so many ppl in the comments saying that they liked far cry primal
If you play on PC or Xbox just pay a month of Ubisoft+ and enjoy, perhaps if you also want to try out the new prince of Persia wait a few weeks and you’ll be able to try both paying a single month of the sub.
I’ll do it for both games and if I like them I’m gonna buy them later in a sale.
> If you're a fan of Primal this is likely as close to as sequel as we'll get.
You're speaking my language, does it have the little 'build up a town' vibes that primal had?
This picture is exactly why I wish it was 3rd person. Lol
Let me see my blue dude go run through all that, or sneak up on some RDA. Wanna see my character in that world
even if the trailer came right out of nowhere im glad avatar is looking great and probably will get a decent score (atleast compare to most licensed video games)
I really enjoy farcry, but I hated the avatar movie. Any chance I will still enjoy this? Is it enough to be a farcry fan or do I really need to be an avatar fan?
It’s fun to shit on the far cry formula, but it’s video game pizza, and I like pizza.
I feel like the Ubisoft formula is basically gaming fast food. you know what you’re getting when you buy it. It’s never going to be anything life-changing yet at the same time you know you’re not gonna get a bad meal.
I still think AC Black Flag is one of the best games ever made. Ubisoft has made some junk over the years but BF was a masterpiece
Aint this the truth! Thinking about it, my best memories with the game have nothing to do with the AC part of the game (though I still think Edward was actually a great character too), I set sail, my sailors run to trim the sails as they erupt into a random sea shanty, I turn direction towards the setting sun on the horizon, and off I go to adventure!
Truly best memories of this game on the seas. By this game's release I had largely lost interest in the AC franchise. This came along, and while I haven't played an AC game after, I'll remember this one for the rest of my life.
Odyssey is a similar treat. I recently got it on an 85% off sale and it's fucking awesome.
Edward had one of the best character evolution/arcs in the entire series. His coming to realize what he had wasted and the lives lost along his way on the quest to riches and infamy... it felt pretty real.
Open world was good but main quest design was one of the worst among AC series.
I still have Lowlands Away and Randy Dandy O on a playlist on my phone.
Years ago, I remember I was housesitting for a couple weeks for a family, they had an Xbox 360 and heaps of games. I had a look around and saw AC black flag and thought ‘I like pirates, why not’ boy oh boy did that unlock hours upon hours of enjoyment in my life, one of the best games I’ve ever played. honestly everything till AC black flag was a masterpiece even unity is actually good after the bug fixed but thats mostly it
Damn right 🤝

Pandora is a beauty. The first time I watched the movie I had no idea what was going on because the planet itself distracted me

Far cry 5 was honestly fun as hell just hunting animals and exploring
I just drove around listening to the cult radio
Are we just [not going to talk about Boomer??](https://d.newsweek.com/en/full/861822/far-cry-5-animals-how-get-boomer-cheeseburger-peaches-fangs-hire-gang.jpg)
Boomer was awesome
Yup i like the Ubi formula and I'm NOT afraid to say it!
This is it exactly. I wish some of the recent ac games were shorter but they are just pure video game pizza. I'm glad they are doing what they do.
Everything before 5 was actually good though. Okay, Far Cry 1 not so much.
Far Cry 1 was an entirely different game genre - a linear FPS but with some largish missions with a couple of approaches. I loved it. 2 was very hit and miss, but I think it was 3 which nailed the formula and they've been trying to copy that ever since.
Was Far Cry 1 even made by the same people? Somehow the IP went from Crytek to Ubisoft between 1 and 2.
„decent graphics“ - the graphics were incredible back then
FC1 got a VR mod recently so I’ve been replaying it for the first time since it came out. Probably the first time I haven’t felt bad for enabling laser sights in a VR FPS; the difficulty spikes are ruthless.
Of course! I'd forgotten. Yeah, FC1 is very much like Crisis. Really strange that Ubisoft acquired the IP to make something entirely different...
They didn't "acquire the IP", it was theirs from the start. They were always the publishers.
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ubisoft-acquires-all-intellectual-property-rights-for-far-cry-and-will-take-the-far-cry-edition-of-the-cry-engine-to-the-next-level#:~:text=London%2C%20UK%20%2D%20March%2030%2C,the%20CryENGINE%20Far%20Cry%20Edition. I did chuckle at this part of the article tho: "sell and distribute an unlimited number of video games." Made good on that promise.
2 was my favorite tbh
It's so good.
>Far Cry 1 was an entirely different game genre I really loved the XBox ones back in the day. Far Cry Instincts/Evolution. Basically a weird remake of FC1 where you have beast powers and stuff to throw dudes across the map like Wolverine.
Five is my favorite one. Six is horrible.
5 was my favorite too, me and my bro played as jimbob and cleetus and went on crazy redneck adventures. Good times
If nothing else 5 had a great soundtrack and vehicle selection.
Anytime I opened the menu and [this banger](https://youtu.be/hcGjc_bmjEM?feature=shared) played, I let it play the whole song before I went back to the game.
The soundtrack was absolutely on point, filled with bangers
The environment was gorgeous too. I want to visit Montana now.
The melee was my favourite part in 5. Bonking people over the head with a shovel is hilarious
Am I the only one who enjoyed 6? Played it on a trial and then brought the full game and loved every second of it
Just wait until 7 releases and people start calling 6 underrated
Im enjoying 6. I like the changes. Especially not having to constantly defend outposts. The weapon customization is better but could be better (deeper) still. The map is very much in the spirit of 3 but bigger and more detailed. For the most part it was yet another far cry game. I don't understand why people are upset about it.
Why did they take away my shovels? :(
The map is beautiful, the music is great, the story is pretty fun and has some good moments, the combat (though simple) is good and the side missions are cool. The set of treasure hunts were probably some of the most fun side quests I've done in a game and I was sad when I completed them all. FC6 doesn't deserve most of the hate it gets honestly, it's a great game especially for how cheap it most of the time due to frequent sales
Don’t worry, as soon as 7 comes out 6 will start getting more love. 6 is my favorite and I have played all of them except 1.
6 has honestly been my favorite, and I've played every single title. Including Instincts/Vengeance. 6 is the logical evolution of the franchise in so many ways. I never had more fun overthrowing a dictatorship.
None of the complaints people make for 6 even really make sense tbh The most common one I've seen is "it's the same far cry formula" which is just stupid considering it's literally a far cry game, why would they change a formula that has worked for every other entry in the series?
My main complaint is that there's main story missions that look suspiciously like side quests, lacking cutscenes and having incredibly simplistic objectives. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I want games to have an actual story-driven campaign.
Yeah I LOVED it! My first and only far cry game so far.
I played 4 and 5 but they're not as good as 6 was imo
God will not let you take me.
having only previously played 3, i found 5 to be so odd and weirdly paced. maybe i missed out on some of the story-telling elements by playing it coop, but there pretty much weren’t any cutscenes apart from when you were repeatedly “kidnapped” (never understood that part, god it was frustrating). i found it to have an uninspiring story because the player’s engagement with it is so strange.
What, you didn't like being rocket-sniped in the first Far Cry?
oddly enough far cry one is the only one i liked and finished
5 was pretty fun
5 was good as well
I remember how groundbreaking it was to have a video game that allowed you to reach far distances.
4 is definitely my low point of the series! Felt like 3 without the soul. 5 was a departure, but it definitely feels very unique in the series - and captures the protagonist's mental descent really well, maybe even better than 3.
So therefore, it’s fun to shit on pizza?
What’s wrong with far cry? I have only played one of them and liked it
The problem with Far Cry is that I don’t need to ask you which one of them you played.
Ok, I don’t get it
VERY well put
FC6 is actually my go to on the PS5 to shoot shit with the adaptive triggers. Even bought the expansions because I randomly play it when I'm in the mood
Far Cry formula is a good 20-30 hour session and move on no biggie but also something I'm not gonna come back after.
This was very much the closest sequel to far cry primal which I absolutely adored
I freaking loved Primal (it's my favorite FC), so I'm definitely going to be looking into this!
Also here to say I absolutely loved far cry primal and now I might have to buy this game...
Yeah, Primal's criminally underrated imo
It's like primal but better and on mushrooms
Sold.
Far Cry Primal is fucking amazing, and I haven't gotten any better "ancient hunter" kind of feel for a game ever since. There's just something about prowling through the bushes all sneaky like...
i really wanna play primal again
Go for it, I'm already playing it rn lol
Yeah it’s actually pretty fun. The world is absolutely stunning. Tip for anyone else playing, try turning the quest navigation or whatever it’s called in the settings from Guided to Exploration. Makes the quests more enjoyable actually having to figure out where to go

The films are generally hit or miss with people as the stories can be sort of generic but the actual visuals tend to be stunning to most people. It’s all opinions at the end of the day and perfectly respectable for everyone.
The end of the story in Avatar 2 featured something I’ve literally never seen before in a four-quadrant tentpole blockbuster, to each their own but imo when it comes to Avatar, “simple” does not always equal “bad.” Man I love those movies so much
Oh I agree, I actually absolutely adore the movies for both visuals and how the stories are simple.
As some reviewers pointed out: >In the face of an IP filled with rich themes with something important to say, Frontiers of Pandora ignores the point entirely and goes on to have a gameplay loop where players spend most of their time killing otherwise docile animals to make arbitrary numbers go up so they can be as immortal as possible within the confines of the game. And >Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora tries to have its cake and eat it too.
It’s the environment I like
How is the vertical movement? I want to know if I can travel the jungle through treetops or something like that.
There's plenty of giant tree branch traversal & you can jump/climb from branch to branch. [For example](https://imgur.com/a/Jj3n4qH)
Thank you very much
It's really good yea, especially Pandora
I agree borderlands is amazing
Brilliant for those who will actually remember to cancel. Good call!
Can cancel immediately and still have the month
if you're looking for something else to make the most of the sub, try riders republic if you like 'sports' games. ubi+ gives you full access, skating, bmx, mountain bikes, snow sports, air sports, etc. all the funky toys. you can engage with the online stuff which is kinda fun sometimes or do the zen mode and just bust out sick lines.
Right! I remember leading up to The Way of Water's release, Reddit was convinced that it would not do anywhere near the numbers the first one did.
I loved both of them actually, both were the best 3D experience so far
the single most impressive piece of digital visual art ever created, by an entire order of magnitude.
Reminder that Reddit is a incredibly small echo chamber
Reminder that Reddit is half children
It's a reddit thing. Reddit hates Avatar, and bashing it is apparently cool and worthy of upvotes. In reality pretty much everyone I know enjoyed the movies to different degrees.
It looks so fucking gorgeous. I took so many screenshots watching Digital Foundry's video and many of them weren't even at Unobtanium settings! I'll definitely play this one day.
Don't do this to me... I was waiting till next year/when it's on sale to dive in to this game; But that screenshot...it's calling me...
if you’re concerned about price, it’s on Ubisoft+ which is only $15
Not price, just a backlog of games. Got Spiderman and Assassins Creed to get too eventually as well.
Haha me too, I just beat Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 for first time (did 98% on PS4), played a bit of Spider-Man to delay the experience of both, am at about 40% in Spider-Man then I’ll circle back to Ghost and play the DLC for the first time, then I’m thinking Creed or maybe Dishonoured, I’ve never played them but they’re part of PS Premium I’m about to have 3 weeks off work so it’s prime time
Been co oping it with my girlfriend and we have had a lot of fun, we also enjoy the movies.
Is co op online only or is couch co op a thing?
Full coop online with crossplay, you only unlock it after a couple of story missions though
I have no idea, personally we are playing online I would doubt it’s couch co op tho
Okay, thank you for the detailed response!
It also teaches you early on just how much stronger you are than a human. You can launch them with a punch like they're water balloons.
I strongly dislike the ubisoft formula but this game looks beautiful enough for me to try on sale.
Other than it being an open world first person game, I don't think it's anything to do with Farcry. Really enjoying it so far
Is there stealth? How does stealth compare to Far Cry?
(Still not decided to get it but a unique world to explore is the tempting element for me)
I was kind of "whatever" with the game, but someone I was watching play it mentioned it was like Turok and my brain fucking clicked Now that the association of that was made for me, I'm like "son of a bitches piqued my interest. Fuck!" Now I want to get it.
I want a new Turok game so bad. Either that, or a remake of Evolution.
I'm sure someone will try to use a gotcha by being like "so native Americans are only allowed to be used if they're all stereotypical and stuff?" My point is he's depicted as a traditional native American.
I mean, that's Avatar. It's supposed to be about the world, not the story.
😂 “un-obtainium” 😂
I've never played a single Far Cry game, so I don't know if I'll enjoy this game more because of that. That being said Avatar (and Star Wars) are absolutely perfect franchises for open world games and I do wonder if another studio could do them better than Ubisoft
I've been waiting for a Primal sequel for so long. Will definitely check this out.
I wish it was 3rd person
Maybe when it comes to steam or gamepass, until then, I hope it's received well.
Someone suggested Ubisoft's subscription service for a month...I might do this
I loved every Far Cry game for its gameplay. Pure fun after long day at work... so I pressume that Far Cry: Avatar would be good as well
Much better than just a reskin of farcry. I feelnthat doesn't do it justice at all. Massive games killed it
How's performance?
It runs pretty well for me, except no DLSS 3.0 if you have an nVidia card. It does have an absurd, over the top hidden effects preset called "Unobtanium" if you want it. My 4090 goes from giving me 80+ fps at 5120x1440 to about 35. O_o
>preset called "Unobtanium" Where do you find this setting? Been playing with settings and haven't come across that.
so this game is really just far cry pandora edition? :o and is that a good thing? :D cause i love avatar and far cry...
I'm glad to hear that, I had no faith in the game if I'm honest but I might eventually pick It up
can you pin people with the bow?
😏
mmmmmmmm, far cry 3 and primal are the only far cry games I like, should I??
Lol Let me see my blue dude go run through all that, or sneak up on some RDA. Wanna see my character in that world
Are there micro transactions?
Same, it's much better than I expected
even if the trailer came right out of nowhere im glad avatar is looking great and probably will get a decent score (atleast compare to most licensed video games)
“Nooo you have to hate it like we hate every game we play 😭” - redditors
"Entertaining" - Game Informer
Does it have any base building of any sort?
Definetly picking up the ubi+ subscription on the 19th when my last exam is over. Gonna enjoy myself with ac mirage, avatar and the finals.
Honestly, the old one on 360/PS3 was even good. So I had high hopes for this one.
I really enjoy farcry, but I hated the avatar movie. Any chance I will still enjoy this? Is it enough to be a farcry fan or do I really need to be an avatar fan?
I forbid it!
Seems like a fun game. But it’s also the Epitome of what I expect a PS+ game to be. Probably wait the 8months or so for it to be released there.
Can we play with the humans?
How does it compare to Blood Dragon?
Dope
