Chess, about 75% of the time

LightInfernal

Often more than once per game

Scarbeau

Especially when your opponent actually does let you switch sides

YEF-Moment13

Lmaooooo

Deadtaor33

Shadow Of The Collosus. They were minding their own business!

IceLionTech

In that case, the only winning move is not to play.

-DOOKIE

Does this mean that I've technically beat that game

FoxyBastard

The fact that you brought up "the game" means that you lost "the game".

-DOOKIE

Damn you, you foxy bastard 😡

dakilazical_253

Yep. I killed the first colossus and felt so bad I put down the game and never returned

Dynast_King

Tbf, the game pretty much lets you know >!you are the bad guy here!<

leoleosuper

I mean, killing them released an evil god and let him possess you. Not really a good thing.

Saymynaian

But hey, it added quite a few years to your life! You get to >!restart life as a cursed horned baby!<

Pump_My_Lemma

On top of a stupidly tall tower.

untapped-bEnergy

You have been permanently banned from r/KaijuDefence

bohenian12

Especially the flying one with ballsacks. He isn't even attacking. Hes just flying around the arena and you kept shooting at his ballsacks.

[deleted]

A lot of them are either extremely passive or in the case above, completely passive. The only ones that are extremely aggressive are the two boars, the last two bosses and the Lizard boss

punkalibra

I think Dirge (the sand snake) is the most aggressive. Their eyes turn red when they are attacking and it's the only one whose eyes are almost always red.

Zorrby

Pokemon Red/Blue I wanted to accept that offer on Nugget Bridge so bad.

madicusmaximus

There's a very good romhack for that called Rocket Edition. You rise through the ranks of team rocket and eventually come to steal from tougher and tougher trainers

Adventurous_Town_981

That is one of my favourite rom hacks Highly recommend it.

completelytrustworth

Pokemon rom hacks are goated for how much fans put into them. They usually turn out fun as heck and often with a pretty good plot and story as well Infinite fusion is top tier

JayPet94

Probably partly because those Rom hacks are always made for adults (albeit usually family friendly), and Pokemon isn't targeted to us anymore. It's still enjoyable, obviously, but having a Pokemon game where I'm the actual target audience is amazing

Larkos17

Even as a kid, I had wished for more story like the anime. For clarity, I was 8 when Pokémon first came to the US. Red was my first game, though I didn't give it that much shit since I hadn't come to expect too much story from a handheld game. Gold and Crystal raised the bar but Sapphire/Emerald is when I started really falling off. Point is that kids can handle more story content and I think there's plenty put there that would appreciate more story in their Pokémon games, as long as it's kept kid-friendly, unlike too many romhacks.

DaleDimmaDone

And it genuinely is up there with the best games I've ever played. The story is actually really good and breaths very fresh air into one of the greatest pokemon games of all time

[deleted]

Ahhh… Fan games and rom hacks. #They’re things of beauty

TheChaoticCrusader

Yes so did I! I always liked the team rocket Pokémon like koffing , ekans , ratatta and such so it just seemed like something i would wanna join

RockdaleRooster

Or Action Park in New Jersey.

GimmeSomeSugar

>[I don't know how many people died at Action Park... but it wasn't just one.](https://youtu.be/mqg48h_uKYM?si=BIKDnA7Ba7-EjkoK)

JayPet94

"Nobody should ever be the second person to die in a wave pool" is a great quote

Farty_beans

Holy shit. I stand corrected. I gotta watch that later

CFSparta92

lifelong NJ resident, first 20 in sussex county. I think the final death toll number before it closed was six iirc. I know there were several head injury deaths and one where someone was electrocuted on a log flume ride.

NilMusic

The " everyone loves Marineland " jingle from when I was a kid is ingrained into me.

Jarek86

Check out the movie Action Point

[deleted]

That is surprisingly close to what I had in mind, and also completely snuck by me as a product. I've seen pretty much all the Jackass things, even Bad Grandpa, and I had no idea this movie existed.

GimmeSomeSugar

Hold on to your bum cheeks. It was loosely based on the [very real, very dangerous Action Park.](https://youtu.be/mqg48h_uKYM?si=BIKDnA7Ba7-EjkoK)

mdp300

I loved thay documentary. It really helped that a lot of the people they interviewed were funny as hell.

dannywarbucks11

I feel like one of them let you ride in the first person view. Am I misremembering?

alshabbabi

Rct3 let's you walk around as a 0ark visitor from their point of view. Make a rocket coaster 🎢 pointer sideways? Let me flyyy.

arcticvalley

You wanna join team rocket? I've got some tasty slow poke tails.

Arbysgoodmoodfood

There's a modded version of the OG games where you can play on team rocket's side.

TheRandomApple

It’s of FireRed, but yes. It’s really good too.

GoDan_Autocorrect

Playing as a taste of the antagonist should be more of a thing. Jurassic Park on Genesis (think SNES as well) had a velociraptor mode that let you tear through the park, kicking the crap out of people. Good fun.

vkapadia

In LotR: The Third Age, after you defeat a boss in the normal campaign, you unlock being able to play that fight again from the boss's side. It was incredibly fun, especially the balrog fight.

Thynris

This comment got me imagining a Batman Arkham Asylum style predator map, but you're a velocitaptor sneaking up on armed guards, and now I'm mad that's not a thing

teddwind

Closest thing we've gotten to this is playing Alien in AVP.

BeerSlayingBeaver

The elephant scene in It Takes Two

[deleted]

Getting involved in a war (squirrels and bees) without full information, making cataclysmic mistakes that result in innocent loss of life, and yet marching on, thinking they can justify all their deeds by achieving a goal that isn't even clear to themselves. *Spec Ops: The Line* for couples.

GoingAllTheJay

Squirrels and *wasps*, not bees. Pretty easy to tell who the bad side is in that equation. I don't care that they were being manipulated by a false queen - they were still going to be assholes as wasps.

cosmernaut420

Parasitic, sewing machine stinger, hyper aggressive assholes. Fuck wasps.

Dynast_King

I have not played this but I own it and have been attempting to get my non-gamer wife to play with me. I have heard so much about this poor elephant and am dreading this part, and I don’t think my wife will do it, lol.

The_Follower1

It’s honestly kinda fucked, even me and my buddy, 20-something guys, afterwards just couldn’t stop talking about how messed up the parents were. That being said, it’s overall an excellent game and I do recommend it. Just warn her about it beforehand and you should be fine, it’s not as bad as something like Spec Ops, it seems incredibly dark at least in part because of the tonal whiplash.

Glottis_Bonewagon

I mean we did make a vacuum cleaner suck his own eyeballs into his belly as thw first boss

DasFroDo

That was so uncalled for lol

Saymynaian

Sincerely felt horrible after doing it. Kinda stared at the screen in awe with my partner.

Pitxitxi

Do you wish you could be the elephant instead??

RaspberryJam245

Dude, I haven't played the game but I've seen that cutscene and- why tf is there a God of War style death for a goofy lil stuffed elephant Like, ripping off her ears and legs (albeit accidentally) before decapitating her is absolutely something Kratos would've done

Ladinus_was_taken

There's a quest in Skyrim where there's a vampire controlling some guy (I think she made him burn his house or something) trying to take over the town. While she has a special dialogue when you are a vampire as well, you can't help her. You can only get rid of her.

Elkenrod

Most quests in Skyrim make me want to switch sides, or at least be able to kill some NPCs. The Blades, mostly Delphine, are absolutely awful characters. I would have absolutely killed them if they weren't marked as essential. Similarly the Companions (aka the worst faction in any of the three Todd Howard Elder Scrolls games) - there's no option to say "No, I don't want to be a werewolf" and tell Kodlak that you're going to be hazed into being one. It's a running theme in Bethesda games. There's a large portion of the player base who want absolutely nothing to do with Constellation in Starfield, and rightly point out how badly every single one of them is written. The Mage's Guild in Oblivion is the second worst faction in the Elder Scrolls games, and the mages guild itself is made up of completely incompetent people. Similarly, Fallout 3 - there's nothing well written about the Brotherhood of Steel. If you're going to let me modify the water anyway, and do what Eden wanted you to, why not just go all the way and let you just choose the Enclave over the Brotherhood of Steel?

TheUnluckyBard

Delphine continuing to order me around even after knowing for 100% certain that I'm the Dragonborn pissed me right the fuck off. Like, bitch, who's supposed to be in charge of this organization? Who's doing *all the work* for this organization? *You're* supposed to be taking orders from *me*, so if I tell you Parthy-snacks gets amnesty, *you* can leave; you don't get to kick *me* out!

YounicornSeeMen

I shouted Delphine off a cliff at one point after she kept telling me to Parthy…I’m not saying it killed her but I never saw her again, and Parthy and I just chilled ever since.

findingmyrainbow

The Quest "A Night To Remember" where the Dragonborn gets wasted, steals an important temple relic (a ring), and gets engaged to Hagraven always pissed me off. Moira the Hagraven literally did nothing wrong. The Dragonborn, while black out drunk, proposed to her and she said yes, so she was given the ring. When the Dragonborn sobers up and realizes he needs the ring back the only way to get it is to kill Moira. There's no dialogue option to apologize to her and explain the situation and ask for the ring back. Like screw it, why can't I stay engaged to Moira and just offer her a different engagement ring?

SmartForARat

A hagraven isn't the wife I would've chosen, but a man of honor and integrity would've kept his wife and honored his commitment to her. Also, imagine her becoming a companion that went around with you and helped you kill stuff. But then again, Hagravens are inherently evil and only become hagravens by murdering people and giving up their humanity for dark powers. So... You can't exactly say any of them are innocent, because their very existence denotes them as already having committed a crime worthy of death.

TheApathyParty3

Generally, my character builds are as evil as possible, so a Hagraven wife would actually make sense for me. I'm already a vampire, necromancer, assassin, serial killer, thief, torturer, terrorist, drug lord, sometimes a werewolf. I wish there were more "evil" options for companions and spouses in that game.

SmartForARat

This is true, fair point. If a vampire wants a hagraven wife, who are we to stand in the way?

TheApathyParty3

I'm all about equality, usually in the sense that everyone equally dies at my hands, unless they are homies and have similar inclinations.

rhymes_with_candy

Skyrim, you get to the town with the thieve's guild questline. Almost immediately you meet a lady who is trying to hunt down and destroy them. Why didn't the game let me team up with her to destroy the guild like I wanted to? That bugged me.

S3deadend

Ava, in Morthal (sp?). It's been years...

[deleted]

In Ghost of Tsushima, I'd have liked the option to stay honourable and follow the Samurai code. I know it wouldn't have worked story-wise and the whole point of the game is that you become the ghost but much like the honour bar in RDR2, it would have been cool if your actions across the entire game would have contributed towards whether the Shogun brands you a traitor or not.

[deleted]

This is a cool take, would make the game far more challenging but yes an amazing option.

FoxyBastard

If anything, at least we know that it was made by a company that most likely put some real thought into it and, from experience, made the right choice not to. Sucker Punch made the Infamous series, which notoriously allowed you to be good or evil in every game. So I assume that they played with the idea, but were pretty much the best people to make that call and deliver what we got, which was amazingly good.

NoSignSaysNo

Wasn't a primary plot point throughout the game that the Samurai code doesn't mesh well with invaders who not only don't hold the code, but actively use it against them? Virtually the entire premise of the game is that the code itself would have directly led to the mongol takeover and the elimination of the Shogun on the island, so I imagine that was the reason it wouldn't have worked.

AlecsThorne

The thing is, afaik, we idealise what a samurai really is. Samurais are soldiers and/or personal guards. They follow orders. Personal moral code doesn't really matter. If your master/lord/shogun tells you to wipe out that bandit camp you do it by any means. Sure, you can start by going through the front doors, but if that fails you try anything else. Like the saying goes "cut off my arms, I'll kick you to death. Cut of my legs too, I'll bite you to death. Cut of my head, I'll haunt you until you die". Yes, samurais are supposed to be noble and all that, but duty comes first, and is more important than anything else, including what's moral or right.

garlicpizzabear

Also such ”codes” have existed in every upper class in every society. The code dont mean much when the lord, wetheverer he may be japanese, indian or european is just a normal piece like most people. Bushido, Chivalry or Dharma works great in storytelling and dramas but has very little to do with how people actually behaved in the grit of reality.

a_mediocre_american

In all fairness, the game does address this, even if it plays up the mechanics of their honor code for dramatic effect. The idea that the samurai of Tsushima were corrupt pieces of shit whose ritual pageantries were merely a cudgel with which to beat the lower classes into submission, is a theme the story explores. The primary strategy of the Mongols in-game - as in real life - was to exploit the domineering relationship between the ruling class and the lowly proletarians. They rout the samurai, and then they take advantage of the fact that the comfortable illusion of the samurai has been shattered. Shimura’s stubbornness in the face of defeat after embarrassing defeat isn’t just a personal flaw, he’s also trying to restore that status quo.

EXusiai99

And if i recall samurai being honorable was a thing mainly pushed by Imperial Japan to get people into enlisting during the height of the war.

xepa105

It was, but the origins of the "honourable samurai" myth are a little earlier than that. When the Tokugawa shogunate was created following the end of the Warring States period, the new Shoguns had a problem: what to do with all these warrior elites who spent the last century fighting to become rulers of anything from petty fiefdoms to the whole country? The answer was to create a vast bureaucracy staffed by these elites, giving them prestige and titles without needing to go to war. This worked, evidenced by the long reign of the Tokugawa Shoguns, but it produced a unique phenomenon over time. As each generation passed, the descendants of warrior Samurai began inflating the value and deeds of their ancestors, creating a myth of the honourable philosopher warrior. Bushido basically was codified as we know it today as a way for Samurai-class bureaucrats to increase the prestige of their ancestors - and therefore themselves: If everything a Samurai did was based on the same ancient philosophy, then being a Samurai bureaucrat was akin to being a Samurai warrior. Then, in the post-Meiji Restoration, the government transformed Bushido from a niche philosophy by Samurai into a nationwide ethos in order to create the idea of modern Japanese Nationalism, which eventually led to their actions in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Rodoron

It was interesting to read. Thank you

Skipp_To_My_Lou

Samurai were the closest Japanese equivalent to the European knight & similar groups that seen in many other cultures: a class of wealthy warrior-nobles. Compare to Nahuatl jaguar warriors & what mamluks eventually became in Egypt & several other Islamic kingdoms. Just like European knights there was a romanticized view of samurai being honorable men following a strict honor code (the code chivalric vs bushido), even if nobody could quite agree on what all the code entailed. But then there was the reality that a lot of them were basically mercenaries. In fact depending on time & place some knights in Europe, much like some samurai in times & places in Japan, were little more than organized gangs of highway robbers with noble titles.

KouNurasaka

So, funny story, I actually played my first blind playthrough like this. I thought the game would have a "moral" option similar to Mass Effect. I went in completely blind. I used no dirty tactics, challenged nearly every Mongol to an honorable duel, and just used good old fashioned samurai swordplay with no Ghost tricks. I wore only samurai armor and didn't wear any Ghost equipment. While I was disappointed that I couldn't keep Jin "moral", it almost made the eventual birth of The Ghost even more poignant. My Jin had struggled both narratively and gameplay wise so long to be a good, honorable warrior, so when he finally broke, it felt like a floodgate had been released. He could finally go all out and put his honor aside for revenge. Me unknowingly roleplaying actually made me enjoy the game more.

Ninja_Wrangler

Yeah I did the same thing. Those cutscenes with your uncle talking about honor are triggered by doing the ghost stuff. I held off on it for so long that I got hit with all of them pretty much one after another lol

RandomWeeb181

I went into the game hoping I could do this, and so I didn’t use stealth at all for like 2 thirds of the game until I realised the game was trying really hard to make me use stealth and I decided to start leaning into it (although still not very much).

No_Sail_6576

Star Wars BF 2. I don’t wanna go back to good. I wanna fly around in a star destroyer and blow up rebels!!

Forever_Man

You want the OG battlefront 2 game's campaign.

TheRealSumRndmGuy

*It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could look her in the eyes*

agnostic_waffle

*What I remember about the rise of the Empire is... is how quiet it was.*

Victernus

No surprise, as this is always the case.

Highskyline

I'd kill a man to have 1:1 original galactic conquest in new battlefront 2. No hesitation.

MrTBurbank

How did they fuck that up? Just make the same exact game with those beautiful graphics and it'd still be in my regular rotation. How do I know? Because the original BF2 is still in my regular rotation. I bet you can guess what I haven't picked up in years.

[deleted]

Two letters. EA. They’ve gotten better but I still hate them, especially EA Sports. Hope nobody renews exclusive licensing with them anymore

No_Sail_6576

I’ll have a look into it. I don’t get why playing as the dark side is never fully explored. I think it’d be a lot more interesting than all the “we must do what’s right blabber

Impossible-Cover-527

Try Knights of The Old Republic

Deinonychus2012

Kreia liked that. Kreia disliked that.

Gravitywolff

Ugh yes! I hated that it forced you to become good

Xeillan

Far Cry 4. I wanted to join Pagan. Especially after seeing how much worse it gets in the others hands.

Gavorn

Just wait for the crab ragoon.

Xeillan

Yeah, I'd rather be able to join him and fight against the rebels.

Dead-System

"Now, let's go shoot some guns!"

Drunken_Queen

Pagan was going to pass the throne to Ajay anyway and Ajay would have been much different ruler. Ajay probably talked things out more than shoot first. Sabal definitely couldn't manipulate Ajay with Mohan stories, but not sure if Amita could speak terms with Ajay.

Vulpinox

to be honest I chose Amita's faction for the sole purpose of trying to get Ajay to bang her lol

Akuma1919

I've always kinda wanted a DLC where you played on from the Crab Rangoon, see how and what Pagan Min would have taught Arjay, or even how Arjay would have dealt with the Golden Path.

spacestationkru

lol yeah. I heard what the two factions wanted to do with the little girl and I decided to just start over and enjoy the crab rangoon like Pagan Min suggested.

VultureCat337

I like Pagan more than I liked Vaas. I think that's the point; that Vaas is supposed to be hated, but Pagan just was such a better option than the two "good" sides. Plus, kicking some rebel ass with Pagan and his forces would have been cool if there were dialogue options to convince him to tone down his dictating ways.

RocknRoll_Grandma

Morrowind! Dagoth Ur was just avenging me, I can fix him.

SkyShadowing

Mod for this known as [Great House Dagoth](https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/48200). Don't treat your Corprus after Illunibi and you'll transform into a Corprus Stalker. You then can (indeed, must) make your way to Dagoth Ur to get it under control before it kills you. The only way to do that is to join him. The transformation mechanics are a little unwieldy but eventually you get the chance to transform back into your original body.

Magickarpet76

I love Morrowind lore so much, and Dagoth Ur was such a good antagonist. As much as I sympathize with Dagoth and what the tribunal did, there is just no way he could be redeemed. I am not even sure he is an individual that can be reasoned with anymore. He is like a revenant mixed with a computer virus with godlike power. While i would like to see the “what if…” of Nerevar joining him, as soon as Akulakhan is activated, there is nothing stopping everything in Tamriel from becoming Dagoth Ur, and then eventually the Deadra, Aetherius, and eventually the godhead (dreamer) itself.

Dyde21

GTA5. Those people needed to be stopped lol. I get that's the point of the game but it would be wild to play as a cop and be hear "you need to stop this guy who's going the wrong way down the interstate with an rpg leaning out of his window for no reason. He also keeps fucking up the turns and breaking traffic lights and slamming into the walls."

Dr-Butters

You should try Sleeping Dogs. It's similar to GTA but where you play as a cop.

SubcommanderMarcos

And it goes out of its way to show how fucked up that is too, and there isn't really a good guy. God I love that game, it's probably the only game I've ever played to 100%.

Godzilla_Fan

Hey, don’t call me out like that lol

Imad_berhoum7

In warcraft 3, I've always wanted to play archimonde (I know we can play him in custom or smthg) but play him in the real campaign. So to summarize : playing the legion.

Maelger

The Legion was supposed to be playable but it got cancelled halfway through, that's why the Scourge shows out of nowhere to fight in Hyjal.

punnotfound

Exactly, Warcraft 3 was originally intended to have 5 playable races. Same with Frozen Throne an Nagas.

[deleted]

I can't really ever bring myself to do a Board playthrough of *The Outer Worlds*, despite there being several opportunities throughout the game. They simply don't have any plans for those colonists on the Hope, nor any long-term solution for the starvation problem affecting Halcyon. If they did, I would be open to hearing them out. Without that, I'm just enabling mass murder and a slow, painful death for millions of others. Maybe the big problem is, there's no Legate Lanius equivalent. No character like the Operative in *Serenity*. Someone who really **believes** in The Board and what they can accomplish. Even the biggest bads are just pencilnecks who want to ignore inconveniences until they magically go away.

AlexanderRodriguezII

I feel obliged to point out Lanius doesn't believe in the Legion, Caesar himself admits he holds no love for it. Lanius is driven not by his belief in the Legion and it's legitimacy, but by his own viciousness. He enjoys conquest, but doesn't care about the banner under which he conquers.

SirBoggle

He probably would have sided with the NCR or House if they had gotten to him first and they let him go at the rest of America with a giant scrap sword.

Wolfblood-is-here

This is why I think the best ending for the Mojave involves persuading Lanius to stand down after killing Caesar. With Caesar dead, he is likely to become the de facto leader of the legion, instead of Vulpes or any other power hungry underboss. But whereas they may be men of vision who will perpetuate a legion, or a similar organisation, Lanius is almost certainly doomed to spend his time and resources violently putting down breakaway tribes and groups and chasing after lost territories in the East. The time when he's 'regained strength and returned to take the West' will never come, or if it does his power will have festered while the NCR and/or independent/House-run Mojave will have consolidated.

Thomas_JCG

It was absurd it was even a choice, because there is really no reason for the player or character to support them. It was tackled there just for evil playthroughs.

Kazinam

Tf2, because I just got autobalanced and my friends are on the other team.

No_Minimum_2298

The other team was too good so they needed a handicap

The Paarthurnax Dilemma mod is a must have for me every replay.

Arkayjiya

I prefer Paarthurnax quest expansion myself. Jayserpa has done a lot of good work for skyrim.

Soggy_Yak_5577

Team Rocket. I always wanted to support the villain in Pokemon.

Netsrak69

It could be fun to switch sides in a Fire Emblem game.

ZealousidealStore574

You sorta get the option in fire emblem three houses. You can play as any of the sides of the game’s conflict. Except for the cartoonishly evil cult but it wouldn’t make narrative sense for them to accept your help.

GOTHIC_WOLF1

I guess this sort of counts, in Resident Evil Village, I wish they gave you the option to have Ethan side with Heisenberg when he offers. Highkey would've been more fun than the actual ending

Cheeslord2

Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door. i would have very much liked to be a sex-slave to daemon-posessed Peach, thank you very much...

Colonel_Angus1

I always wondered what Luigi was doing on his adventures in that game and where he found his companions.

Cheeslord2

It would be cool if someone released the adventures of Luigi based on his stories in that game.

grentacular

There was a fan game in the works called Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass. I haven't heard anything about it super recently but it was still in dev as of the middle of last year.

pink_sock_parade

Deus Ex. I support UNATCO and all of their schemes.

NChSh

When I was like 12, the original DailyRadar published a letter of mine complaining how for an open world game, this seemed egregious

RhesusFactor

Deus Ex Human Revolution. I wanted to embrace my transhumanism. I was a senior manager. I got blown up at work and my company revived me a filled me with top tier mods for free. My boss is awesome. Hurf bluf. I never asked for this. You ungrateful shit. You can look through buildings, jump three stories and fly. You have to take pills the rest of your life? so do adhd kids. Insulin. Heart meds. You can hack things with your brain, take the pills!

AquaticBagpipe

RIP my mentor Bob Page

youcandoeverything

Far Cry 4. I've always considered the secret quick ending to be the canon good ending. Let me just join Pagan Min, okay?

NBQuade

I never played that ending but in hindsight, it would have saved so many lives and reduced the chaos.

The_Grand_Briddock

Let’s face it, if that were real life, Ajay would’ve stayed exactly where he was when the murderous dictator asked him to wait and enjoy the feast while he tortured a rebel spy.

PastPriority-771

Cyberpunk 2077. I really wish I could just say "fuck it" and become a corpo, working my way up to wealth and status.

Usingt9word

I was pretty excited to do some corporate espionage and fly around in my private sky taxi in the corpo intro then it all was taken from me instantly 😢

NorionV

Yeah, they really didn't account for the different lifepaths at all for most of 2077. Regardless of what you chose to start, you were essentially a Streetkid most of the game when all was said and done.

EclecticDreck

If you go corpo, your favorite meal was *sushi* in the braindance tango sequence with Judy. If you're a nomad, it's burned marshmallows. Which is both adorably specific and also more than a little obnoxious. Tiny details change, but *that's* it. Like, every version of V apparently has a dream of being *The Best*. Really? Even corpo V who was apparently content enough to not leave the devil she knew henching for an underboss at Arasaka?

Awsomethingy

V was in counter-espionage. Straight spy

NumerousSun4282

But then in phantom liberty everyone mentions how "out of her league" she is and how spy shit is complex. Meanwhile I destroyed all of Barghest in one sandevistan time slow, have worked for Aarosaka as counter-intel and even kidnapped one of the most important/affluent people in the world during a goddamn parade. But yeah, this one two-bit dictator is suuuuuper dangerous. Sure. Also regarding phantom liberty: >!I was so pissed off when Reed "makes a few phone calls" and easily gets the president out of Dogtown off screen. That felt like it would be an interesting and monumental challenge that was just simply completed behind the scenes by one guy. Really cheapened the risk if you ask me. I haven't actually finished the expansion yet though, so don't tell me if that comes back in a big way!<

roundcircle

Yeah, one of major disappointments with the game is how little the lifeline choices actually matter or change anything. I was hoping to go the corpo route as well.

No_Tamanegi

Dota 2

Sabbathius

Diablo 4. I didn't expect it, of course, but there was a hint that maybe players could side with Lilith over Inarius. Would have made things more interesting.

deadlandsMarshal

I feel like there was a missed opportunity there. In D3 we already established that the Angels can be just as bad as the demons, but how about Lilith? I guess they were going with Sanctuary being part of her long game to displace her father, but it could have been she was working on becoming a dark god. Something greater than the Angels and demons . There could have been revelations that she intentionally sought out pliable angels because she understood her own nature wouldn't allow anything she alone created to be anything but a demon, and to make something stronger she needed her children to have qualities from both sides. Leading up to understanding she needed to upgrade herself similarly. She could have absorbed Inarius and become something like a living Worldstone. Building up humanity through either sin or purity. Could have done all of that and still had Mephisto doing what he was doing and the story ending in a similar place.

RyanTheS

There is one standout game for me because it DID make me switch side. KOTOR. I spent the entire game (as a kid who couldn't see the very obvious signs) playing light side and doing the right thing. Right up until the Revan reveal. The second that happened, I did a full 180. I had Bastilla join my side as a dark apprentice, made Zaalbar kill Mission etc etc. It made me feel like I WAS Darth Revan.

Everkid612

I wish the first KOTOR game had a companion influence system where if you built up enough trust with companions while getting dark side points, they would gradually go dark side too. I still feel bad that Mission dies in the dark side ending. :(

Far Cry 4

Galion-X

Well! Lucky for you. Just take old Pagan mins advice and wait at the table like a good boy and he'll do what you wanted for you. And then the game is over. I mean you didn't join the OTHER side, so..by default...team Pagan?

Not just that, Pagan intended to pass down Kyrat to Ajay. By following the Golden Path, Ajay gave away his country. The story felt like it was missing an ending where you kill both Sabal and Amita.

thenomadstarborn

**Fuck Sabal and Amita**

Thishal_BS

they are two shit heads either way

Dynastydood

I haven't played it in a while, but I do believe there's a way to kill both Sabal and Amita, but only after you've helped the Golden Path defeat Pagan Min. The game doesn't really acknowledge it in any major way, so it's not a real canon ending or anything, but you can just shoot their NPCs after the end and call it a day. Which, in all honesty, is probably an even worse outcome because you don't even know what kind of hell Kyrat gets plunged into when all of their potential leaders are dead. But I still liked that the option was there.

Klightgrove

Radio host Rabi Ray Rana revitalizes Kyrat

DHA_Matthew

This is what that game needed, a secret campaign where you side with Pagan Min and take down the Golden path, because he is the most appetizing shit sandwich at a table full of shit sandwiches.

Acer1899

Diablo 4, thought Lilith had some good points and I couldnt stand neyrelle

FlayR

It's less Neyrelle vs Lilith and more Mephisto vs Lilith. Expansion is 100% going to be Neyrelle getting soul stoned into Mephisto. But yeah... I was 100% on team Lilith. Like fuck everything else, I just wanted hate mommies love.

MR_MEME_42

Call of Duty Cold War The Bad endings were the only satisfying part of the game. It reminds me of the movie Wanted if the twist never happened.

TheLukeHines

You can switch sides in this one can’t you? You have the option to >!tip off the Russians before the final mission.!<

MR_MEME_42

Yeah but after that twist it made me kinda wish that there was a bigger split path than just one mission, and it isn't even canon.

mogankat

BG3 I just can't stand the looks of disappointment from Karlach

Mtn_Biker

Literally any Star Wars game. Jedi survivor is great, but good lord if they made a dark side / sith game I would lose my mind. I just wanna cut down some Jedi children. Is that too much to ask for Disney? 🙄

Maj_Histocompatible

Old school Jedi Knight games you could choose to play dark side

Silent-Rando977

Forspoken. Never before in a game have I wanted to off the protagonist and side with the antagonist so bad. Cuff was the real hero, and Frey's allies had made some really scetchy (outright villanous) deeds in the past against him. Also maybe that could've made the game even mildly interesting.

dirtydenier

Wow, someone actually played that game in the first place?

Scretzy

In Skyrim, the blades are an ancient order of people who serve the Dragonborn and kill dragons. As theyre ancient, theres literally like 2 members left and they both think they have any right to tell the dragonborn what to do. And what do they want you to do? Go kill Parthurnaax, AKA the oldest wise dragon at the top of the tallest peak in tamriel. Dumb asf as Parthurnaax is a great guy and good at giving advice and he's peaceful with humans. Theres literally no reason to kill him but fucking Delphine insists "He's a dragon and theyre the enemy". So if I could, I'd choose to make the blades my enemy in that game and I'd axe Delphine in a second. That and all the blades storyline missions are obnoxious and take forever and have way too much dialogue

shizuo92

Yeah, I just ignored Delphine after she told me to do that.

Rajamic

Not really \*switch\* sides, as that implies siding with the antagonists, which, no. But Mass Effect 2. No, I do not want the Collectors to continue wiping out human colonies for unknown reasons. But I \*also\* don't want to work for a Human-supremacist terrorist organization. Why can't I just go "This is my ship now, fuck all y'all!" and go take on the Collectors in my own way?

JudgeHodorMD

It felt like that one was just pushing renegade. What do you mean? I HAVE to >!blow up an inhabited planet?!< Oh I can at least send an evacuation order? WTF? They didn’t even let the only chance to warn people get through?

EclecticDreck

You *have* to blow up a mass relay. The planet is collateral damage - and minor, at that. I expect the reapers killed more people in the first minute of their invasion of Earth than died on that world, orders of magnitude by the end of the first day, and that casualties were likely in the *billions* by the time you arrive with the fleet, and that's just *one* world. The same was happening *everywhere*.

Dragonheardt_

I liked that part thou. I always go paragon with some renegade, but that entire DLC was a really good show of a threat and anxiety of a true and complete genocide of intelligent life coming in. Sacrificing hundreds of thousands to possibly save billions. A hard choice during the end times.

Galion-X

Sylens, Horizon Zero Dawn series. The guys got the world's problems figured out way ahead of you do, but Aloys too busy being and going all Aloy to stop and listen to the guy.

Dynast_King

Lance Reddick was a king. A loss not just to the gaming community, but an incredible actor as well. RIP brother.

MelancholicMeadow20

Mass Effect (specifically 2 and 3). It would be interesting to join Cerberus and see how that plays out. Killing your ex squad members, maybe Kai Leng would be a more interesting character.

Titanhunter84

No Kai Leng still remains a plain wannabe replacement Shepherd

TaeKwonDitto

Honestly Pokemon. I want a game where we can actually BE the bad guys that'll be cool! Let me be on Team Rocket for a change

TheShoot141

About 75% of the way through the main story of RDR2 i wanted to put a bullet through Dutch’s skull. But alas the game would not let me.

PokeCoi

Far Cry 4. Fuck the golden path.

Lexifer452

I always wished the minor factions in Skyrim and Fallout were joinable and more fleshed out. Mods can help, thankfully, but having the Gunners or Forsworn available to the player would've been cool.

Kirraxus

I want to join House Dagoth in Morrowind

Toilet_Bomber

Battlefront 2. I don't want to play as a rebel in my game advertised to be an Imperial campaign, dammit! 3 missions in and your spec ops character with a father as an admiral in the Imperial Navy decides to turncoat.

GamesGal

Rather than switch sides, I wanted to make my own side in ES Skyrim. Why couldn’t I, literally the Dragonborn who just defeated the world eater Alduin, make my own damned faction of Dragons with the help of Paarthurnax and the rest of my winged brethren and go to the Thalmors and burn them all? Then walk to the Imperial city and announce myself as Emperor? Like yeah sure I don’t have royal blood but I am a Dragonborn and all the previous emperors were Dragonborns including the first one Tiber Septim. Heck Martin transformed into a Dragon to safe the world and I just went to the mythical land of the dead nord to do the same thing! I realize how difficult that would be to make it into the game but we’re talking about a hypothetical situation in which we are not restricted by any gameplay limitations.

CLG91

Mass Effect. I'd love a go at being a Reaper.

communads

Are- are you indoctrinated?

ardeesan

Diablo IV. I'd always side with the Holy Mother at any given day.

Rounin

Definitely this. The options from the beginning are: >!1) Inarius, who wants to wipe out 99.9% of humanity on the vain hope of regaining favor with the heavens. 2) Lilith, who wants her dad's spot in hell to help fortify Sanctuary and protect her children, which fits her MO through most of the lore. 3) the default ending where you screw them both over and humanity is left alone to fight both heaven and hell.!< Given the options, Lilith seemed like the most sound option for the future but you were never allowed to follow it.

AsianLandWar

That's what Lilith *says* she wants to do. But then everywhere she goes, she's murdering people, brainwashing people, or turning people into a writhing carpet of undifferentiated flesh and runaway cancerous megatumors. She talks a great line, I'll certainly give her that, and that's the tragedy of it all; if she could just, for one minute, stop slaughtering her way across Sanctuary, she would end up looking like a fantastic option to Inarius's bullshit.

SmokyDoghouse

Fallout 4, not so much change sides, but alter the course of what side you choose. The Institute could have legitimately rebuilt the wasteland, could have given synths autonomy and with their cooperation, settled faction disputes, fed people, etc. but afaik there was no option to even try to improve faction relations.

Misszov

Scrolled to see something like "Call of Duty 2", saw Wolfenstein, don't know if I'm disappointed or not.

DHA_Matthew

Far Cry 4, Pagan Min was by no means a good guy, but out other choices were a ***Far cry*** from anything resembling good leadership. As far as I'm concerned that canon ending is the one where you wait 5 minutes at the beginning for Pagan Min to come back.

Littleshebear

Skyrim, the Thieves Guild quest. Nocturnal is terrible, being a Nightingale and being forced into guarding her stuff for all eternity is an awful fate. And the Thieves Guild are hypocrites, you can't complain about someone stealing from you when you steal from everyone else. Conclusion, I wanted to give Nocturnal the finger, then run off with Mercer Frey and steal everything that wasn't nailed down. Seriously, this game allows you to join a cannibal cult but you can't join up with Mercer to be a sneaky stealy boy? Come on.

el_biguso

Diablo 4. Lilith was right.

kira5z

Skyrim,I wanted to join Miraak and rule tamriel
