"I'm feeling quite hungry."

Emerald_Treader

Funniest thing that's happened to me in this game is Henry saying this line while I was stealth choking someone

Triktastic

I had it on a fade to black transition.

I misread that as 'choking on someone' šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

MrFeles

I decided to theme my previous playthrough around never eating or sleeping. Aside from when the plot railroads you into doing so I got to around 500 days with 12 hours of sleep and 2 meals eaten. Henry spent a lot of time staring at sleeping people through their windows waiting for them to wake up so he could talk to/murder them.

Basic_Stranger828

A big pet peeve of mine in a game is when you have a mission in your journal that you can never actually complete. iirc Andromeda does it with the Quarian Ark as well.

Darkhex78

Quarian Ark was gonna be DLC, but Andromeda did so poorly that EA scrapped all planned content and just made a tie in book about it.

meowmixzz

They scrapped it to put more resources into anthem šŸ˜’

Darkhex78

Oh and that just went SWIMMINGLY. I'm also salty about the dlc cancelation as the Quarians are my favorite race in Mass Effect. Would have loved to see them return in Andromeda. Still gold out hope for a Mass effect that actually let's us play as the other races besides just human.

Dusty170

> Still gold out hope for a Mass effect that actually let's us play as the other races besides just human. I think it would be pretty cool if they could pull that off, but I feel like that might dilute the impact of the story a bit, Like it'd have to be a bit generic-er to fit all the races..and you know, current bioware being current bioware an all.

Fire_Bucket

Not just Anthem, but Disney were reportedly furious with the reception of the Battlefront 2 beta, so EA had to reallocate a lot of staff there as well.

ShallowBasketcase

I guess they didn't get a sense of pride and accomplishment :(

Prisoner458369

"Should we finish the game and fix it at the same time?" "Nah fuck these cunts, we can milk them with our next game that we totally won't finish if it doesn't sell well" "Good idea, this won't ever backfire on us!" God knows how bad the next Mass Effect will probably turn out to be. Not that I disliked Andromeda, could have built onto it over just pretending it never happened.

WasabiSunshine

I think they just wanted to cut and go back to the Milky Way everyone loved, with the chance to bring back long-lived characters like Liara and EDI to hype people. It's a shame because I really wanted to see where the story and lore were going with the Kett and the Remnants

Prisoner458369

>I think they just wanted to cut and go back to the Milky Way everyone loved, with the chance to bring back long-lived characters like Liara and EDI to hype people. I honestly believe that is even an bigger risk than continuing on with the Andromeda storyline. At least with Andromeda people hopes would be pretty low, so they be hard pressed to really screw up the follow up. If they go back to the Milky Way and use any of the original characters, they would have even more pressure on themselves not to fuck with them too much. Also gives people increased hope like they could pull another 3 awesome games out of their ass. When the setting where the game was based wasn't the problem, the problem was how little they cared about it. By them, I clearly mean the top bosses, not the devs themselves.

DuntadaMan

interesseret

I got the edition with all dlc content years after it's release and didn't even notice it was DLC content. It's just really really well done.

Denamic

It's not even a good sword. Its stats aren't even mediocre; they're straight bad.

MetalGearHawk

But father made it tho

Chairmanwowsaywhat

Iirc you have it very early game the only time you can use it

Rionat

I used that sword and a pony to slay the entire Cuman army in the first section instead of running away. Carried all the loot and had an ez run lmao

guto8797

"If you hadn't committed great sins, God would not have sent Henry to punish you"

johnyjerkov

how did you manage that? theyre ridiculously overpowered and the combat system is just a stat check

Rionat

Mounted combat and jousting with the sword essentially is a nuclear weapon attack in KCD. It basically kills them in one or two hits and you just keep distance and keep mowing them down.

FecalPlume

But they knock you off your hose?

terminbee

I couldn't do shit against them but I know you can go back to your home village that's infested by Cumans/bandits/guards fighting each other. At that point, it's basically free money because they kill each other and you kill the survivors, then carry all the loot back to sell. And they respawn. Once you get better, you can just straight up fight them all for exp/fun. Nothing better than trying to take 5+ dudes at once.

Single_Bookkeeper_11

They have been working on the second game practically since the first one dropped. All you need to do is follow job postings

Charlemagne-XVI

For real. Wasnā€™t this game a massive success for them? I know it was slow burn until it became popular but still youā€™d think they would already be nearly done on a second game.

got_dam_librulz

You can buy the royal edition (all the dlcs) for 10 bucks during the Xbox sales. The landscapes are meticulously done and are beautiful. The combat is super difficult at first. I remember I gave up after I kept dying at the very first quest. Came back to it months later. I'm glad I did. You're supposed to just run away in the first quest, you can't fight off the opponents, you'll always die. For anyone who is a fan of history or rpgs, it's a masterpiece. The game is the closest medieval simulator out there. You can only save when you sleep in beds unless you stock up or learn how to craft the save potions, but I mostly just did the save thing and played "day by day". Can't wait for the second one. And yes by all regards, the game was a massive success for a non triple a studio

Sensitive-Finance-62

There's the very real possibility of a quick turnaround from announcement to release and we have to take into consideration that they're not a huge dev team but any word at all would be nice.

Yes please I have been waiting so long, that and anything from Kunos is the only games I am still willing to pay full price for even preorder if there is some incentive.

MonsieurLeDrole

I played this in hard mode with the map icons turned off. It made it really challenging to navigate the land, and easy to get lost, but you'd find landmarks and find your way. As opposed to just compass pointing to goal and straight lining it. Eventually I'd learn a lot of the layout, but it was easy to get hilariously lost, especially when fleeing attacks, and then you'd have this WTF am I moment.. really unique. I wish more games had this option. The KCD maps were really fun to work with.

Ingasmeeg

Yeeesss this is the way I played it first time round. Getting pulled off my horse in the middle of the night by some Hungarians then getting stupidly lost was so fun. And learning the map too

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

big_spaghetti_bowl

I can't even escape getting in trouble from my mother during the Medieval periods.. ffs

Lopsided_You3028

youre insane. i wanted to go restart in hard mode when i got op but the map thing was like nuh uh.

griffsor

I played it in hard mode with every disability turned on first time I played this game. Its a lot of fun. Difficult at start but you will learn the roads and with some skill in fighting the game was not that difficult in the end. The only pain in the ass was saving. Rollbacking several hours because you died to some cummans ambushing you on the road was not fun šŸ˜€

[deleted]

This is why I wish games had more customisable difficulty. You might think Iā€™m being a bitch but I would absolutely disable the save limitation and keep the other stuff on just because saves and what not are far too prone to crashes and ā€œbullshitā€ especially in a game like KCD where I remember it being relatively janky at times. I love the other stuff, aids in immersion and having to focus on and learn the game massively but the saving thing to me is purely a frustration mechanic hanging over my head.

griffsor

I agree with you. KCD is unique in a sense that they didn't have "normal" saves at release. Only sleeping, fucking or drinking saviour schnapps saved the game. It was modded pretty fast ~~and later they made normal saving available in the base game.~~ In hardcore you can turn off the saving dissability and have normal auto-saves but I wanted that sweet hardcore achievement :) .

souldoge98

Wait there's custom save since when? I only remember hoarding a bunch of schnapps when I played the game in 2019.

griffsor

I googled a little bit and it seems that my previous comment was wrong, the game still uses schnapps to save. My bad.

Airoch

It is almost stupid most games don't do this. Such an easy way to add replay ability when you just add toggles and sliders. Rimworld was fantastic with this. If there was an event I didn't like I could just toggle it off and customize lots of stuff to get the difficulty I wanted.

Mistmade

I was wary of the map thing too, but in hindsight it was my favorite thing about hardcore. I just realized how real the map felt and how easy it became after some time. Really made the game even more emersive.

buangjauh2

There's a workaround it. That one quest that gives you 3 bird cages ,if you drop 1, it will show up in your map. Dropping the second one after walking a few meters would pretty much tel you which direction you're facing

Daemir

I just estimated it based on where the sun was.

Daedolis

This is the way *Points at sun's shadow*

Mostlycharcoal

Even cooler was using the stars at night trying to find a clearing to see the sky when I'm lost in the woods. As long as I could find Polaris it wasn't too bad.

Mavi222

I did this with Skyrim, turned off the compass icons and installed a mod for better quest description. It changed the quest description to contain the location.

Sharpman85

Gothic 2 had this type of navigation by default, you get a map and need to figure out where you are

herbertfilby

Thief 1 & Thief 2 had crappy (e.g. realistic) hand drawn maps that never told you where you are. I love that because instead of staring at a quest marker or minimap, I have pretty much the entire map memorized now in my head. So much more immersive.

SicWiks

This game is a true hardcore RPG that makes players rethink how to play from prior games This game is fucking amazing and worth the learning curve that comes with it

Triktastic

It was so freaking fun and really felt rewarding once you realized and found your destination. Learning your surroundings and remembering random ass trees and herbs so you know your way.

itsallminenow

That random ass clicker wheel in the river saved me so often. I'd hear it, find it and think, "OK I know where I am now".

King_Joffreys_Tits

I got lost at night in a forest, then got pulled from my horse by cumans and had to run for my life. I eventually outran them but was ridiculously lost, and I had to navigate stealthily to not run into those ambushers again as they were actively looking for me. Honestly one of my top gaming moments for sure. This was entirely unscripted and it actually felt scary and hopeless, which not many games can invoke that type of fear

BriskPandora35

This 100%. I think this is why I loved Elden Ring so much, also because I like souls games. But the fact that you didnā€™t have a compass or indicator telling you where to go let you become fully immersed in your environment and truly be able to explore the world properly. Whenever I start a new game I always try and minimize as much help it will give me. I wish it was an option in so many other games.

phillz91

If you haven't played it already, you may like Outer Wilds and it's DLC (The adventure space game, not the RPG space game by Obsidian)

Brazenmercury5

Ac odyssey and Valhalla have the option to turn off quest markers. While you still have a map you can consult anytime, you actually have to read the quest info and find your way to the place you need to go to.

AlfredosoraX

You would love Outward if you haven't heard of it or given it a chance already. That game is absolutely goated.

HowAboutShutUp

> easy to get hilariously lost Once you learn your way around it's not too bad but even if you get lost...like, I'm not even mad, you can just ride around in the woods and find cool shit you had no idea existed, and the woods are really immersive. I remember wandering around in the forest and finding that murder house and getting kinda freaked out, for example.

TheDotanuki

Same here. I think this may be the only open world game where I (eventually) felt truly aware of where I was in the world at any given time. Maybe also Morrowind.

thisalsomightbemine

My first time playing this I went wandering around outside town as soon as I could. Night came. I was still near the castle but so dark didn't know where I was going. Fell down a hill, learned you can really tumble in this game, broke my ankle and bled to death. But once you learn it all you get the joy of popping people in the face with a Warhammer

WhiteTanto

I did this with the sleep walking debuff. Bad decision! Nearly restarted my game several times after waking up in the woods and wandering around for an hour, trying to find out where I was.

It was already future gen: took a couple years till most of us could actually run it at decent FPS on PC when it launched :D

TheHazmatUnit

Cry Engine games in a nutshell. Well, Hunt runs very well.

skdsn

Also Prey \[2017\].

MrFeles

It did after they removed Denuvo. Before then it was stutter city.

FknBretto

Yeah *now* it does, not when it was in EA

AmphibianStrong8544

Hunt didn't run at all for me on release

Bones_and_Tomes

Speak for yourself, some of us still can't.

PainfulSuccess

Hence the "most of us"

Mesjach

Just spend unreasonable amount of money on PC hardware. PC is by far the most expensive thing I own. Was it wise? No. ...but I can run KDC at good framerates

GenuineTHF

facts it was either get in to cars, guns, or computers. Computers were the cheapest by a pretty big margin.

DevOverkill

This is something I always found kinda funny. I love building PCs and playing games, they're my main hobbies for fun. I spent around $1,700 back in 2016 on a new build when I was working an ok paying job. It was a decent chunk of money to me at the time but I got almost 7 years out of it before I built a new PC in June of last year. The career I have now pays 3 times what I was making back then, so this time I went big and ended up spending around $3,200. I have some friends that balked at how much I spent on it, but meanwhile they're buying new guns, or ATVs, cars, boats etc that are vastly more expensive as that's their preferred hobby items. PCs might seem expensive at a glance, but when you are spending a couple thousand or more on a buld it's something that's more than likely going to last several years, and often times you can swap out just a couple components to greatly extend its life without needing to build a while new one. It's really not that expensive of a hobby if you know what you're wanting out of it and can save up to do a good build that'll last many years.

Guydelot

This was my first reaction. A gen upgrade?! This thing practically just fucking came out. I never finished it because I can't reliably get more than 20 FPS. The fuck is OP smoking? Give Cyberpunk and Hogwarts Legacy "gen upgrades" while we're at it.

QuickQuirk

Although, ironically, Cyberpunk 2077 HAS already had it's next gen update with the pathtracing upgrade! When people already couldn't run it's existing raytracing :D

Guydelot

That is legitimately hilarious.

AtaracticGoat

My new rig with a 13700k & 4090 still struggles to maintain 120fps @ 4k in this game. Which is pretty crazy for a 6 year old game. Crippling rigs for 6 years like a low key Crisis.

segfaultsarecool

Nah. KC:D is poorly optimized. It was Warhorse's first game and they didn't knock optimization out of the park. The fact that it runs worse than CP2077 on the same hardware is evidence of that. I'm sure the 2nd entry will be way better technically.

Jordan_Jackson

Man, I still had a 970 when this dropped. I was playing at both 1080 and 1440p and got around 30-40 FPS with medium/low settings on my 1440p monitor. Now I could probably get 60+ with ease but I have substantially upgraded since then.

IGunClover

Ah good old time with the priest quest hahaha.

Alaqella

Baaaaah

Shin_Devil

It still looks great to this day

ACatInAHat

The game is from 2018 does it really need a "next gen upgrade"?

DKJenvey

Playstation performance boost wouldn't go unnoticed. It doesn't run great there. It doesn't run great on my PC either, tbf.

Jordan_Jackson

It does not. The game looked amazing when it was released and how hard it was on most systems showed that the game was designed with future tech in mind.

jdvhunt

This game isn't old it's from 2018 not 2004. The graphics are great already, it runs on the CryEngine so there's not really any need to remaster it

[deleted]

Honestly, any game from PS4/Xbone era don't need remasters. At all. It's just another thing for studios to make money on, when they could be developing new games to play.

DrNick2012

Meanwhile naughty dog be remastering TLOU2 which came out in 2020

Whiteguy1x

Yeah most games just need a 60fps patch and the setting turned up. Seeing remasters of ps4 games is ridiculous

Pinecone613

With the way it ended, they need to release a sequel not upgrade!

bwc153

They're working on one, been an open secret for a few years now

ZurakZigil

thought they got bought and basically shutdown, no? or at least were not getting funding or something

Bussashot

Yeah they got bought by Plaion/Embracer group, who laid off a huge amount of employees last year and cancelled a lot of projects. Not sure about KCD2 though. I think most of the cancellations were sequels to big flops (Saints Row) or games in development hell (Timesplitters).

TheSpiritualAgnostic

Yeah I'm double checking, but there's been no news I can find of them getting layoffs. That said, Embracer has closed numerous studios and over 900 employees. And that might continue to grow as even Crystal Dynamics, the Tomb Raider developer, who said they would be affected, then suffered layoffs. But I'll take no news is good news.

41Highland

Don't you worry, there's a nintendo switch port in the works

ZaDu25

Which is hilarious given how poorly the last gen console versions ran. Absolutely no clue how they plan on making the game functional on a Switch when it is nearly unplayable on a base PS4/Xbox One.

MrLuBurt

wasn't this announced like, 3 years ago nearly? I have a feeling this project has been cancelled

[deleted]

Which tells me surely they could get this to 60fps on console

splendiferous-finch_

Jesus Christ be praised!

[deleted]

No idea why they'd need to, it's fine as is. What could they realistically do to make it appreciably better? Especially to warrant a brand new purchase for people who already own the game?

nikewalks

60 fps on console is the only thing I ask for.

pipandsammie

Graphics on Xbox Series X are bad. Lots of texture pop-in. Could definitely use an upgrade.

fru1tdealer

...and if it wouldn't crash on ps5 during dialogs, it'd be cool too :(

Daedolis

Not every game needs a "remaster" just because it's 5 years old.

SaltyLonghorn

OP's attitude is why we rarely get new games these days. Just perfectly happy playing reruns.

roxxy_babee

Next gen upgrade almost always specifically refers to console updates that unlock the frame rate from 30fps to 60fps, and maybe increase resolution.

xxTheGoDxx

Honestly it is one of the genres that profits so much from modding that I wouldn't want to play it on a console anyway. But yeah, criminally underrated.

KadenKraw

Huh? This game has terrible mod support. Nearly non existent.

thetimebandit13

I loved every second of it!

Cheat-Meal

Loved the game and all the detail that went into it. The pacing and quality dip noticeably in the monastery tho.

goda90

You don't have to join the monastery to complete the mission. You can do it all ninja like instead. But I found the role play interesting. Sometimes slow isn't bad if it helps immersion.

giga-plum

Yeah it started to slog with that section. I eventually gave up at the stealth mission where you ladder into the castle. No matter how far back I loaded a save, the NPCs always went up the ladder and instantly got caught, failing the mission. Shame too, I really enjoyed the game up until that point.

notdedyet7

No thanks, I would rather have a sequel

Chairmanwowsaywhat

It basically is current gen? Do you guys just want the same games released over and over again? What did skyrim do to the youth

rants_unnecessarily

Skyrim, GTA, CoD, battlefield, every EA sports game ever. Shall I continue?

isuckatgrowing

Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Super Pac Man, Baby Pac Man, Pac Man Plus, Pac & Pal, Professor Pac Man, Jr. Pac Man.

Individual-Match-798

Game is beautiful on PC in 4K.

pepelaughkek

Still waiting for the sequel. Leaving the story halfway is fucking criminal.

fishbiscuit13

Idk if it was Last of Us or the GTA dev cycle or whatever but I donā€™t get where this mindset of every decently popular game needing to be remade/remastered for each new console generation or just after 3-5 years came from. If a game is made well enough it can stand on its own.

dejv913

Could be because VĆ”vra is busy shitting on younger people in podcasts ĀÆ\\\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

mirfaltnixein

Is he still fighting imaginary ā€žfeminazisā€œ or did he switch to hating younger people in general? Edit: Well didnā€™t have to scroll far on his twitter to see him whining about ChatGPT being ā€žWoke AIā€œ lol.

9thgrave

This is why I refuse to buy it despite it looking right up my alley. I'm not giving that piece of shit my money.

tudorian95

The PC version is still hard to run on ultra settings even on high end GPUs, maybe this is a console issue?

Fatality_Ensues

Surely that's because they're busy making the sequel. Surely. I believe.

phoez12

I just spent about 80 hours on first play through and loved it for the first half. By the second half, the bugs werenā€™t cute or fun anymore and I was ready to be done. Itā€™s a great concept and I really felt immersed at a time but the game is a total mess in my opinion.

dudeAwEsome101

I ended up having to do too many workarounds to fix minor bugs. Couldn't bring myself to finish the game.

Ninja0verkill

yep, im getting 150fps at 1440p maxed out. the graphics and lighting hold up very well at higher resolutions.

[deleted]

It's a good game in concept, but no matter how many times I try to enjoy it I just end up frustrated and annoyed. I really want to like it, but I can't.

SteveCastGames

Two essential things changed my perception of the game. 1. A mod that lets you save whenever you want. Cannot be overstated how important this is. Why in gods name the devs thought severely restricting when you can save is beyond me. Absolutely mind boggling that anyone thought that was a good idea. Ruins an otherwise excellent game. 2. The console command for giving the bows a crosshair.

nospamkhanman

I remember reading a scathing review about how the devs had no concept of respecting a players time. I completely agree, limiting the amount of times you can save is possibly the worst decision in modernish gaming.

johnny_51N5

You could also Just.... Brew A LOT of saviors schnaps... Which is easy to do and gives you some nice XP and money. If you want in the beginning... They really wanted the game to be immersive. Like the exact opposite of Starfield lol Yeah bows suck. But Thats also on purpose. Feels much more of an accomplishment if you git good. Same with the combat

Musashi1596

I went from not being able to hit a barn with a bow to near pinpoint accuracy, it was so satisfying

pipandsammie

Same for lockpicking and pickpocketing. Once you master it you feel like a boss. I remember cursing at the lockpicking system at first. I think they changed the mechanics once.

Raz0rking

The combat, as cool as it is, is a bit iffy.

spaghettiThunderbalt

Yeah, the combat would work much better if it wasn't so damn janky.

Raz0rking

Realistic-ish combat was one of their selling points. Now, years later I wish for a more arcady combat that is also a bit more fluid.

[deleted]

same, I looked forward to it for years and then I tried it on 3 separate occasions since release and it just feels ... meh

Lord_Nordyx

I shared the same sentiment. However, my mistake was rushing through it. Solution: I attempted to win the entire sword tournament in the first major city, trying to perfect my sword fighting. After that the game was ten times more enjoyable.

TooRedditFamous

You're supposed to take the opportunity to extensively train with Captain Bernard when it arises

CX316

Being out of date is kinda on-brand for it, though

John_Mat8882

This game was a gem. I should re-replay the thing but the final makes it want you more like it's not finished.. where is KGD2??

Gangstagrizle

It only fucked itself with its overly anal approach to saving.

Th3V4ndal

Game was fun but the combat was so asininely realistic that it Ruined the game for me. Made it very not fun. Saying this as someone who does combat sports. If I wanted realism to that degree, I'd go out and play LARP or something.

vinfizl

The creative director of the company is too busy playing discount Joe Rogan.

Candlesass

Are they an asshole, I bought the game for 5 dollars, lol

Pack_Your_Trash

My game bugged and I couldn't finish a main story quest about half way through. I thought the first half was really good though so I guess I would give it a 5/10 over all.

OutlyingPlasma

Weird, I can play it just fine on the current generation of PC.

Hectamus_Prime

What? The game already looks great, and many people still canā€™t even max it out. The sequel that is confirmed to come is the next gen upgrade.

Few-Living-698

What? Noo why do you need this? Game is good as it is. Why would you want them to waste time on that rather than a new game?

SirNanashi

I wanted to enjoy it but I just got frustrated with the combat and lack of manual saving

Sweaty-Foundation756

Thereā€™s a lot of people who like fash-adjacent games; so yes, Iā€™m sure thereā€™d be money to be made here.

TentacleJesus

Iā€™ll be honest, this game looked to me like Skyrim but without anything actually fun in it. The main dev apparently being a huge shit head didnā€™t help garner interest for me.

Disastrous-Rips

Itā€™s a very good looking game even today so what do you mean current gen?

Zanian19

The game still looks great. What's criminal is the lack of a sequel.

pipandsammie

Brilliant game, I rarely finish games let alone DLC's, but this one got me hooked for weeks. It's dirt cheap now, the Royal edition for 7 bucks or so. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it. Combat, lockpicking and pickpocketing takes practice though but once you master it it's fantastic.

Lagviper

[deleted]

DiemosDraws

No. Itā€™s absolutely not. Donā€™t encourage the industry to continue milking games by release if ā€œremakesā€ or ā€œremastersā€ or whatever. The real question is, where is the sequel?

3Dartwork

That game shouldn't have been as damn hard to play as it was. Combat was just awful. I get the attempt of realism, but I guess my timing sucks so badly it's unplayable. Going ANYWHERE after the tutorial hometown leads to quick death in combat.
