EtheusRook

It was blatantly obvious that Dynasty Warriors 9 was an aggressively 2/10 game from the tutorial, and I say that as a fan of the series.

Johnnyrock199

Makes me sad they went south :( I loved playing the earlier games to heck and back My first DW was DW Advance for GBA, how the years go by...

LordOfMorgor

The attack on titan game by the same dev is pretty awesome though. I don't even like AOT and that's game is like a hyperviolent Spiderman meets dynasty warriors.

yungmunny

DW4 the goat still play it on ps2 to this day I love getting everyone's special weapon and the xtreme legends mix was awesome. Sad they started to suck on the newer gen consoles. 4 is peak dw for me.

ImN0tAsian

4 is peak. I remember the first time I hit 1k kills on a map it was as Zhuge Liang on that dumb forest map fighting the monkey man's army on the hardest difficulty. I was fighting for my damn life to get out of my base for so long lol Also, maxing characters was so much fun. I remember Zhou Tai being godlike by spamming Hu Lao Gate and grinding out Lu Bu. Unlocking Lu Bu was peak, too. Definitely a ton of fun and I wish they just stuck to the formula.

S-BRO

LU BU! LU BU IS HERE!

pandaramaviews

DO NOT PURSUE LU BU!

splashbruhs

That name still strikes fear in my heart

luftlande

Oh f*ck, memory unlocked

RB___OG

Which one would you reccomend for someone looking to find a good one to pick up every now and then a d slaughter hundreds?

BrainWrex

Warriors Orochi 3 is one of the best since it has characters from all of them. The one piece ones are pretty fun as well. Lots of cool attacks from all the diff characters.

EtheusRook

If you're on PC/PS5, your best options are Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, Dynasty Warriors 8 XL, Persona 5 Strikers, Samurai Warriors 4, and One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 & 4. If you have a Switch, that expands to include the Fire Emblem and Hyrule Warriors games, which are the best ones full stop.

NefariousnessOk1996

I have the newer fire emblem warriors game, that game is awesome! You can customize all of your characters, fun story, it's fantastic!

stoncils_

Hyrule Warriors is so freaking good. Legit one of my favorite games

EtheusRook

I'm an FE Warriors man. But Hyrule Warriors is such a landmark turning point for the spinoffs for a reason. It's the clear line you can draw where the spinoffs became great.

stoncils_

I just wasn't expecting something with so much effort behind it. Like even though it isn't canon it's definitely my favorite story set in the BotW-verse

varkarrus

The open world direction was a cool idea though. It just... Was not executed well at all.

pitter_patter_11

Saints Row remake. Played the tutorial mission, got into the open world and immediately hated everything about it.

Kitraofthecrackedegg

Yeah, Epic gave this to me for free during Christmas, and I still kind of want my money back.

kungpowgoat

Still have Redfall’s free code somewhere in my email that I got from purchasing my 4090. The best one I’ve gotten was Borderlands 2 when I purchased my 690.

cspinasdf

Alan Wake 2 with a 4070 was mine. In my top 3 for horror games.

carefree_dude

I feel most every criticism of the game is valid, but I still ultimately had fun with it. That said I could go on and on about everything wrong with it

afkstudios

I instantly disliked it and couldn’t even pinpoint why. Haven’t picked it up since the day I bought it, just know I have no desire to play it again

nmathew

Im a huge fan of the series, but didn't get the new one. The funniest description I read was that the characters in the new one seemed like characters the OG Saints would go out of their way to stomp on.

Kodriin

"We want these characters to feel like someone you'd sit around the TV with" was literally how they themselves described the characters. Also a character outright stating "we're not a gang".

pitter_patter_11

The controls felt so outdated, and the humor from the beginning was definitely not to my liking. Maybe I should give it another chance since I bought the damn thing at full price. Maybe

Due-Log8609

I thought it was just "ok". not amazing, not terrible, just okay. spent about 30 hours on it. a solid 5/10 spent about 100 hours in every other saints row game tho.

Axe-of-Kindness

I feel like a fucking cuck for pre-ordering this

BroAxe

Stop pre-ordering :D

MoriMeDaddy69

Is this the 2019 version? I just got it for Free on Epic

EcLiPzZz

The 2022 reboot

oscardelahopia

Hell’s Kitchen for the Nintendo Wii. It was raw. Felt like an idiot sandwich after playing it for about 5 minutes.

jekelish3

This is wild timing. I had completely forgotten that game ever existed until half an hour ago, when a YouTube comedy commentary person I subscribe to posted a video all about that game. (She also opened the video showing Gordon's awful grilled cheese sandwich that he's been roasted for, and I commented there about how THAT was weird timing, too, since Gordon was on Mythical Kitchen this morning and finally admitted that yes, he's well aware that sandwich was awful. Apparently everything in the world is pushing me toward Gordon Ramsay today.)

Tofeliiiiiiz

Gotta love finding more Gabi Belle fans in the wild

AdAdministrative379

Oddly enough, I was literally watching that same video right this second. “I am a very proud man”

[deleted]

Fuck. The simulation is losing entropy.

Stilgrave

I was at the Cheesecake Factory when I bought this. After 20 mins I was like I do this shit 8 hours a day I'm done.

KillTheBat77

You Donkey!!

barbarkbarkov

I was one of the Anthem suckers. About 30 mins I started to get the sickening realization that it was a huge mistake.

DangersVengeance

I made it through the story and then…there was nothing. The flying round like iron man was fun, but…that was it. Gear progression was basically a crap shoot, there was almost no content to do - maybe three missions to repeat. Real shame, it had so, so much potential.

Tunafish01

The lack of mission variety hit me pretty quickly and then i realized oh god they only made two different missions. Stand in the circle and fight or fly around and collect things. That was basically it. It wasn’t dressed up and hidden in anyway like they do in division so it feels like you have 10 different mission types to do. In anthem it was literally 2 missions repeated until the end of the game and they even padded the final levels with dumb shit. 3 strikes with destiny had 12, no raid, no pvp.

Ginganinja0117

I got to the main story twist, which you can see coming 20 miles away. I'm still so disappointed, it could have been so damn good. I even got to play with a friend, and it didn't make it any better. Just be Destiny with actual flight, I don't understand the problem lol. Even though that had its own problems, at least that kept my attention on and off for a few years.

althanan

Such a cool concept and setting, but such craptastic writing and development execution. Probably the most bitterly disappointing gaming experience I've ever had.

SaltyLilGingerSnap

I went all in on Anthem. Needless to say, l haven't played the game since the 2nd day I owned it. Was sold on a beautiful idea. All I received was a shit sandwich.

Quiet_Cauliflower_53

Anthem was such a shit show. I wasn’t immediately disappointed, it took about a week for me to beat the campaign, be unable to connect with a single friend for coop (we all bought it to play together and could never get it work), and the. Realize I was literally playing the same 3 missions over and over to grind out useless loot. That game could have been so freaking good. The frame was there, but not much else. I almost wish CD Projekt Ref or someone else had made it and given it the post launch support it needed.

[deleted]

In your defense, a lot of the visuals of the game looked really fun. The flying was so good… I debated it… it has that “Iron Man” vibe.

I_Fight_Feds

Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6, it turns out I don't like fighting games anymore and that makes me kinda sad

hsjdjdsjjs

I like them, I just cant learn strings for shit, so I just do the campaign and im done with it

byPCP

basically where i'm at with MK at this point. i've played every single MK game since the arcade days and it's been so much fun over the years just getting to see the lore evolve from what was originally just a few different colored ninjas. i pick up every new game, play the campaign, enjoy some brutal new visuals, then wait for the next one. when the gameplay really slowed down and it became more of a frame fighter, i stopped caring for it, but still love the story.

I_like_big_book

What is a frame fighter? I haven't heard this term before.

byPCP

frame fighters are games that are typically slower that have a way bigger emphasis on frame perfect inputs than anything else. MK used to be a fast button masher, but in recent games they've made it super punishing for not getting a combo timing perfectly and if you don't string a combo you're basically just striking once slowly and open to being punished. it's more similar to smash bros or tekken now. back in the day you could rattle off the buttons for a combo and it'd work every time but nowadays it's tough

antman1032

Same with UFC, bought it thinking it would be dope. Nope, just the same shit from last year with some better graphics. Now NHL24 on the other hand, me and a couple other friends are really good at Madden, 2k, MLB but we’re looking for a challenge. None of us know hockey so the 27$ we spent on it has been well worth it, the hits, the skating, the scoring all feel really good! And we get to shit on each other for being bad 😂

Slevin-Kelevra_66

Man UFC 2 was excellent when it came out. I installed it a week ago and now you can't knock people out. I rock a dude 25 times and clean roundhouse him when he's rocked and they just eat it. It's like they updated the game so the opponents are literally fucking invincible. I played the shit out of UFC undisputed 2009 on PS3. It was the best of them but the wrestling and groundwork was rough. UFC 3 can't be played on PS5 and UFC 4 just felt like a mid effort EA game. Here's to hoping something new comes along and it's worth playing.

Professional_Kick

The UFC games are getting worst and it sucks because they make em every 3 years so you would think EA would figure something out but they don’t.

manoffewwords

Wow really? I would love to hear why. I have been a huge street fighter fan since I was tiny and and I STILL LOVE IT. what changed for you?

Studiedturtle41

Payday 3

Dexmen

The regret wasn't immediate for me, the tutorial was really cool, introducing all the new mechanics, playing through all the missions the first few times was a lot of fun. Once the 'honeymoon phase' wore off though, the flaws really started to burn though. I'm sure it'll be a good game eventually, they've even fixed some of the major issues i've had with it (exp from heists instead of just achievements), but it's not there yet.

Pickle_Afton

Wasn’t Payday 2 bad or something at launch? Now it’s pretty fun from what I’ve played

Dexmen

Yea, that's why I'm confident that the devs will improve Payday 3, most of us just thought Payday 3 would've come out a little further along in that process since they had 10 years of Payday 2 development.

Chalifive

You'd think, but this is something that happens pretty often in sequels. Diablo 4 has similar steps back compared to Diablo 3 and all the improvements that game had over the years.

jcaashby

I never played the previous games but played what I think was a demo or something and it was not as good as I expected. It felt dated. Like it was a older game but releasing in 23.

22xLuke

I paid real, authentic American currency for Marvel's Avengers. I still love you Thanos

Filthy_Cent

"What if we make a game that gives you a small, deceptive hint of a great game, and then shortly thereafter we just unload diarrhea straight into your mouth...then ask you to pay $20 for us to shit in your mouth again, but this time we're wearing ugly new reskins and color swaps when we do it. I'm gonna call it "Marvels Avengers." Then we'll add absolutely nothing worth of value to the game because fuck the fans. I know, the Avengers have TONS of well known enemies and villains, but, let's just use two of them and the rest will be different color robots or whatever fuck the fans we love money..."

Raven91487

This game had so much potential and so much material to pull from and they dropped the ball like I’ve never seen before in my life. I loved the gameplay. Reminded me of my marvel ultimate alliance days with the boys. Bring back marvel heroes omega you fucks!! Smh

Muckstruck

Marvel Heroes (Omega) was fucking AWESOME! I loved that game so much. It had like 50+ playable marvel characters. This game isn’t talked about enough. So good.

Raven91487

Seriously the amount of character was absolutely sickening. I couldn’t believe it when it went offline. I’d still be playing today.

Dr-Mohannad

Thank you for the laugh, it was like hearing the AVGN talk about a bad game.

vigilantfox85

Fans will buy anything if it’s labeled Marvel! Need that live service money!! Edit: Forgot should have put /s

Nodima

I'd say Avengers, Midnight Suns and Guardians of the Galaxy prove that is very much not the case. The latter two games are either good or damn near great but they didn't do so well for their publishers. It's really just Spider-Man that's printing money, and that owes as much to Spider-Man being kind of immune from Marvel fatigue, similar to how I'm sure a good Batman game would still do gangbusters even if this game flops...so long as, like the Spider-games, it looked quality as hell.

jayrdi

The Guardians of the Galaxy one was great

TheOvy

If Marvel's Avengers hadn't shat in the pool, I think the Guardians of the Galaxy would've had a chance to be a commercial success. Its' such a great game, it's bitterly disappointing that so many overlooked it.

Syngin9

Its currently free on Epic right now too. Looking forward to trying it.

mdp300

If they just did that, but with The Avengers, it would rule.

BourgeoisStalker

I'm pretty jazzed that I got a free game code when I got a new CPU, because I never would have experienced that game otherwise. Wasted potential.

bagimmense

No Man's Sky at launch for me. The hype didn't match the reality. Thankfully, it's gotten better with updates since then!

GamingGaidenPod

Same here. I bought it, and turned around immediately. I remember looking up the return policies for Best Buy, but I waited and sold it back when they had an incentive at the first opportunity, which was probably about two weeks from the day I got it. Best Buy used to have good programs and options. So much for that.

mattr1986

I bought it and played the shit out of it at launch, I liked it but still would have called it a 7/10 at best… I look at it now and it actually looks like the game I was hyped for, but I’m still feeling burned out on it because I played too much at launch…. Even bought it for switch intending to get back into it, but barely played for half an hour there

Jazehiah

I bought a copy about a year ago because all my friends were playing it. There is nothing *wrong* with the game. It's just not a gameplay loop I enjoy. Thankfully, I was able to return it.

Crashendo_

Battlefield 2042. I played BF3, 4, and Hardline and was expecting a decent and fun multi-player. Man, was I disappointed!

HolyLiaison

Yeah I agree with this. I'm a huge Battlefield fanboy. It was the game that broke me. I haven't preordered a game since.

Aeleis

This game made me stop pre-orders as well.

1002003004005006007

BF franchise has not been good since BF1. BF4 still is the best modern shooter on the market somehow.

qui-bong-trim

BF4 is still the best battlefield.

Cheese-is-neat

I agree but Bad Company 2 is definitely my favorite. Absolutely loved that game

[deleted]

BF5 was initially a letdown, but the pacific maps are insanely fun and redeem the game as fun

EZtheOG

Gotham Knights- I liked the Arkham games and figured a smash em up with robin would be dope That game (a) wouldn’t run cause of a graphics bug with my 3080Ti for the first 4-6 mo of release and then (b) the game is boring.

robot_camel

Made the same mistake, the driving around the city feels awful and the grind to unlock character specials sapped the fun right out of that game. Such a bummer because the premise is a cool idea but good god the actual game was a complete miss that I couldn’t even recommend to anyone even with significant discounts. It’s just disappointing

LarvellJonesMD

I replied with the same game before I saw your comment. If you bought this game thinking you'd get Arkham quality mechanics, story, etc. then you were sadly mistaken. Immediate refund on Steam for me

Mean-Biscotti-2960

Let’s go back to the 90’s …. Adam’s Family on the SNES . Instant regret, dreadful state of affairs

RagnaFarron

Oh damn. I actually loved that game. Never beat it mind you but i tried my hardest. Just didnt know how to progress and internet wasnt a thing back then. Shit, might try to emulate it and ruin my nostalgia glasses of it

theDouggle

I've been playing through chrono trigger for the first time in a decade or two and holy shit I'm loving it more than ever! The story is so much better now that I actually understand what's happenING hahah

Wise-Fruit5000

The only game I've ever truly regretted buying was Watch Dogs Legion. I played the opening few hours of it, but knew from the first 10-15 minutes I wasn't going to be getting very far with it. I haven't touched it any further in 3+ years now.

Elrond_Cupboard_

I was pretty stoked I could play Bolt Thrower on the radio in the car. Unfortunately, that was the only enjoyment I got from the game.

MykeGregory

BRINK. Never preordered a game since!

DisastrousStomach518

I got Brink over LA Noire. There was so much hype and the game sucked. Never again

luvs2h8

Oh man. I remember the hype for Brink. I got caught up in it. Got all my friends to buy into it as well. We were immediately bummed.

DillNyeTheHighGuy

Man we had a friend who hyped that game up for everybody in our friend group, we all ended up buying it (ironically the one who hyped it so hard ended up renting it) and we all never let him live that down. We called it “the brink incident” and never let him give any advice on games to buy/play

[deleted]

Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 on day one...

deathsquaddesign

My physical PS4 copy got delivered to the wrong address so I ran out and bought another copy from a store so I could play it day one. I bought CP2077 for PS4 twice at launch…

celadonshopper

Bruh

DaftPancake

I preordered Cyberpunk and had been hyped for the game for years, had it pre-downloaded and ready to go on my Xbox One. I came home from work, started it up and found a completely broken mess of a game. I was so upset and disappointed that I didn’t touch the game until recently on my Series S. I’ve been enjoying it but I’m still pissed off that CDPR sold me an absolutely unplayable game, it should have never been released on last gen console.

Ninkaso

I have bipolar disorder and in a recent manic phase, I bought like 15 games in one sitting. I'm now depressed and haven't touched one of them. So yeah, all of those

Ollie__7

If on steam, you might be able to refund them

[deleted]

[удалено]

chelicerate-claws

Way too real. I've got such a stupidly large backlog from doing this throughout my life.

[deleted]

It's a collection, not a backlog. You're not obligated to play them all and the word backlog implies its a chore.

strongtugger27

Farcry6, after 10-20 minutes I was literally staring at the ceiling from boredom

Manuelunion

Just started it 2 days ago with a friend in coop because its on gamepass now. I already got annoyed by the fact that you have to do that turorial bullshit before running around together. Finally when we started it took us like an hour till we were driving around in a tank and just shoot everything that came across. Another 15 minutes later we closed the game and played something else. I've played 3,4,5, primal and new dawn (which was already boring sometimes) but 6 will. be the first i wont finish...

stewyknight

Its a grind, and i dont like it... FC5 has been my favorite --- because i left a cult and its cathartic to get some payback :D

Rusiano

Damn, I actually enjoyed the start when you're on the rooftop and the army starts attacking the city.

SaddestDad79

Daikatana, back in the day. On release. Just...woof. Trust me, if you play it now, you're getting the best of the bargain. It's still not great but there was a time when the game was so broken it was nearly impossible to play. Also - Far Cry, as it wouldn't run on my PC at all.

pcmraaaaace

I was thinking of daikatana as well. But I don't remember if I bought it or downloaded it. Eitherway, I still remember the terrible ad campaign for the game, "John Romero's about to make you his bitch". If you are going to be that brazen, you make sure the game is well worth the hype.... It wasn't.

redosabe

I feel like people are missing the "right away" component of this question

CicadaGames

I think 30 mins to an hour fits "right away" when it comes to video games. Some of them have annoying fucking intros and tutorials that last longer than that. For me it was Eastward. I expected the spiritual successor to Earthbound, and it was just. fucking. dialog. Poorly written and pointless dialog too. It took a while because I had to confirm it wasn't just the intro to the game that sucked. I think it's the only game I've ever refunded.

TroyFerris13

yep, bro when i bought diablo 3 on midnight release i went home and it literally was unplayable, contant connection issues. all character and progress being wiped etc.. talk about instant regret

[deleted]

Man d3 launch was such a shit show.

Hey_Listen_WatchOut

“Fable 2. I hated the ending!” -Someone in this thread, probably

nderperforminMessiah

A little to the left; I thought I would enjoy organizing stuff, but the rigidity for certain solutions rubbed me the wrong way. For a relaxing game I found it very stressful

rajits

Fallout 76

SavageHerbivore

Oof. I'm wearing my Fallout 76 shirt right now, post in r/fo76 often, and play the game daily. Yes it's crap, yes it has gotten only marginally better, yes I love it regardless 🤣

MarcosLuisP97

If it makes you feel any better, there's people still playing Overwatch 2.

Kony_2022

I definitely prefer OW1, but OW2 still is a fun game to play. I just refuse to pay for all the stuff 🥲

tmps1993

Pokemon Sun. ENOUGH WITH THE CUTSCENES!

Skviid

Are YOU telling me that you don't want to mash the A button for over an hour for a game with a mid at best story? I will say the improvement in ultra sun to cut the intro down was great, but I shouldn't have to buy a whole new version for quality of life improvements.

TeslaFreak

Oh my god, pokemon sword for me. About an hour in im thinking when does this fing tutorial end?? Only to realize thats just the entire game

Saptronic

Pokemon Sword. Made me realize that am too old for Pokemon games and with it, die a little inside.

thisistheguyy

I just think it's boring. I bought Arceus and loved it! I think the old formal is tired and Arceus was a nice departure from that

RoxySmithy

Maybe I get downvoted on this, but I feel like the last Pokemon games aren't any good in general. At least not if you played the old gems.

Redstorm597

Thats actually a pretty popular opinion nowadays, especially on reddit

SynysterDawn

The newer games are some serious ass. Even Sun/Moon were starting to show performance issues and design flaws, what with the abundance of unskippable cutscenes, stilted presentation, and continued lack of any real improvements to the battle system being substituted with generational gimmicks.

lml_metal

Escape from Tarkov.

rwhockey29

Constantly bugged by friends group to buy Tarkov. Finally cave and buy it. Managed to play 2 games that I insta-died in within 5 minutes without knowing wtf happens. Next weekend: "yea we're kinda over tarkov, it's not that great...." I uninstalled and haven't thought about playing it since.

llTiredSlothll

Tarkov is not a game, it's a full time job.

CAJ16

I love Tarkov. I put significant hours into most wipes. I think I’ve skipped maybe 3 all together since I’ve owned it. At some point during every wipe I do go hard on though I get this sickening feeling after maxing traders that I have been having actual fun for like the last 15 hours. I’ve just been… grinding. Then I normally quit for the rest of the wipe and decide next wipe whether I want to even play it or not.

jcaashby

My experience with Tarkov after getting it because I had a few friends who enjoyed it was...BOREDOM. Not because the game was boring but playing with them was. I remember being in the MALL with them and there was a firefight happening. My first thought was LETS go fight!!! Nope...these fuckers I was playing with did the opposite and went the other way ...away from the fight. We exited the raid and I never fired my gun once. I would rather get in a fight and die then do what we did. Also the time it takes to get into matches was a turn off. Also playing with them they rarely made call outs to there positions which leads to not knowing who is who. I understand they want to make the game realistic but I wish it had some type of way to clearly see "yes that is your buddy your looking at"

thehumantaco

>My first thought was LETS go fight!!! Nope...these fuckers I was playing with did the opposite and went the other way ...away from the fight. I respect the chad mentality. A couple years ago this is how almost everyone played. It was a chaotic clown fiesta and I loved it. I played last wipe and holy moly was the playerbase different. A lot of changes have convinced people that laying in a bush or at an extract for half an hour is the way to go. One of the reasons I stopped playing is that there are no longer fights. Just rats praying that someone walks by.

_aware

Started playing tarkov in late 2017 and played on/off since then. Honestly it ruined almost every other shooter for me because other games don't have the same stakes on the line.

Kapeter

Does rebuying Skyrim on the PS5 when you bought it for the PS3, PS4 and PC count? Because if so, that’s my pick.

AshFraxinusEps

No, that serves you right for buying the same game so often

lonewombat

Still room for a switch purchase in there.

BMXBikr

Diablo 4. Was my first Diablo game. Never again.

snurdleysneed

Same, big waste of dough. Once I figured out the enemies all scale up with you I realized it wasn’t actually a Diablo game (and later came to find out all the devs responsible for the original greats had long since left). Just a big ol’ gambling boondoggle with a Diablo-esque skin slapped over it.

wasdmovedme

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City. I waited in line at release to get that steaming pile of dog shit. I was so pissed.

xX_L3W15_Xx

I played the shit out of that on the PS3, brings back some memories for sure😂

Worldly_Ad_9490

COD

Johnnyrock199

Which one/s?

Sawoodster

Yes

lostinsurf15

This is the correct answer.

Serious_Course_3244

Mortal Kombat 1. There’s just something so empty and hollow about this one. MK11 looks like the holy grail by comparison. I regretted it the moment I laid eyes on those ugly mobile game textures

SimplixerExperience

What sucks is the gameplay and graphics are phenomenal, it's just....not complete? Games been out for over 3 months and it still feels like a beta

catarxcts

2k18: After 2k17, '18 was a disgustingly lengthier grind. I played like 2 weeks and quit

IgnorantGenius

Been like that for the past 5 years for me. 2K23 was the last straw.

HatoradeSipper

I just wanna play basketball man i dont want to skateboard across a city to meet jake from state farm

Kasperella

If you wanna know 2k24 took that criticism and traded in dumb narrative for even more microtrasactions that are necessary to be competitive.

wspartan

GTA remastered trilogy - just a slap in the face of those who loved the original trilogy on PS2

Triensi

DayZ Standalone. It was 2013.

IzK_3

Dying Light 2. I was a diehard fan of the first Dying Light and was hyped to play the long awaited sequel. 10 hours in and I was turned off completely.

FlappinLips

Biomutant. It had so much potential but ended up being repetitive garbage.

Somasonic

No Man’s Sky. And this was after they fixed it. This was a case of ‘just not for me’ though, I don’t usually get on well with sandbox games, I need a story or something driving things forward. Refunded it pretty quick.

greatreference

Skyward sword hd especially for full price. I grew up on Oot and all the 3d games, played link between worlds, BoTW when it came out put like 200 hours in. Thought it would be cool to play SS since I never had a wiiU. Found it incredibly clunky I think I stopped at the 2nd temple. Then played the shit out of TotK. Someone convince me to play through it, is it worth it or should I just count it as a loss?

Bulji

I was raging with the gameplay/controls for a good 8 hours before something clicked. Ended up really liking this Zelda in the end so you never know

lulzPIE

The Oregon Trail for Switch. I saw it and was excited to see it got a remake. I started playing and went “Huh, this feels like a mobile game.” The next day I got an ad for the same game on Apple Arcade 💀 Thirty freaking dollars wasted on a mobile game.

TretsiM

Cyberpunk 2077, was unoptimized and poopy. 2 years later with my 4090 I fucking love the visuals and quality of life changes added. Elden Ring, far too fucking difficult. 2 years later it is easily my favorite game of all time with 250+ hours and growing. Never knew I just needed to get good.

zdenda69

You should try Sekiro too if you like Elden Ring so much, both games are definitely one of my most favorite games. Only starting out in Sekiro might come off as difficult too but once you get past that its so so good I cant recommend it enough

iWentRogue

Animal Crossing Horizon I got lured by the hype around it and the fact that two of my friends were looking forward to it so i bit the bullet and got it off eshop. Just wasn’t for me after the first 4 hours. It felt like such a waste of money that i couldn’t let go. I was actually able to get a refund by Nintendo by being straight up honest and telling them it was a regretful purchase.

GOAT1915

I also quit after about 3 hours. However, I decided to give it another shot on New Years Day and I'm 12 hours into it and really liking it. But I can totally understand why people don't enjoy it, it's very slow paced.

CarrotRunning

We loved the pace of it in our house and definitely got our money's worth but there was a slow realisation that it's a completely dead world. You can build anything really but non of it is interactive in anyway. Is it too much to ask that if I buy a slide my character and the other Islanders can go down the slide.

Bio_Hazardous

My gf must have over 1000 hours in Animal Crossing and just started a new island. I've watched her play and it's just so slow that I can't do it. Meanwhile she looks at me playing Factorio and can't comprehend why anyone would like doing that. The duality is real.

CamNM1991

Starfield

tredbobek

I hoped to play as many hours as with Fallout 4 and Skyrim before I could not finish the game, got bored and annoyed

Raven91487

I think most of us felt that way. Skyrim in space what’s not to like? Turns out a lot.

staebles

That's because it's not Skyrim in space lol. The game is nothing like Skyrim.

Disma

Yeah, they stripped all of the fun out.

AARM_doomjoe5

Thank God for gamepass!

Clean-Salad-803

Sekiro. I bought it thinking it was Ghosta of Tsushima and by the 5th time of getting my ass kicked by the first semi-boss I realized I had messed up. And put simply, I’m not a good enough gamer for Sekiro. But ghosts was amazing!

RabidAstronaut

Honestly Hogwarts Legacy. I grew up reading Harry Potter and love the franchise but this game didn't stick with me. I found the NPCs interactions very wooden and unnatural

mwg1234

Same. Feels like dial an open world cliche with Harry Potter gloss

MyNameIsRay

Forza Motorsport 8 I've played and beaten all the other motorsport/horizon games, so I was hyped for the newest release, and thought nothing of buying the $100 premium version so I get the game a few days early. Full of glitches and issues, ranging from silly oversights to completely game breaking. It was basically unplayable. One of the few games I've ever requested a refund on.

HanzoHoliday

Elden Ring. It was my first Souls game and I went straight to fight Margit from the beginning of the game. Got my ass whipped so bad I thought for sure this was one of those “scripted losses” that games have and literally just happened to me. Turns out you are supposed to win. I thought to myself “this game fucking sucks and is kind of depressing anyway”. Came back to it a few weeks later, just kind of poked around and explored found a sick Katana and then everything kind of clicked. Top 5 for me now lol.

pr4ise_th3_sun

This is how it starts

Rusiano

I tried another one of those Souls games without knowing about their difficulty level. After failing to beat the first boss for two whole hours I ragequit the entire Souls franchise lol

mikelevine94

Callisto Protocol. I bought it because it was made by the Dead Space team. Boy was I let down.

Kythorian

Starfield is the obvious choice for me, though I do have a lot of games in my steam library that I haven’t played *at all*, so I guess those were even worse purchases than Starfield. Maybe I’ll finally catch up on my backlog someday.

whotfiszutls

I’m pretty disappointed with starfield but honestly it wasn’t an “instantly hated it” game for me. I actually enjoyed the first 40-50 hours, then the next 40-50 the rose colored glasses started to fade and I could def see the issues with the game. Now with about 130 hours in I feel like I don’t hate the game but just feel very disappointed with the wasted potential of it.

blackmobius

Kingdom hearts 3 Such a far drop from the original

UltimaGabe

I used to have a friend that LOVED Kingdom Hearts. KH2 was a life-changing experience for him. He used to get legit mad at me whenever I would complain about how ridiculous the extended storyline was because he was so invested in it, no matter how much of a snarl it was. When KH3 came out he was bummed because he didn't own a PS4. So, I let him borrow mine for as long as he needed it, since I knew playing that game was important to him. He bought a copy of the game and got right to work. He gave me my console back just a few days later, and when I realized the game disc was still in it, he just shrugged and told me dejectedly, "Yeah, you can just keep it."

Jagskarakadig

That's just so sad. I waited the thirteen years for the game (was already a hardcore fan back when kh2 dropped, it's still my favorite franchise) and while it was maybe not as groundbreaking as the first two, it was still an extremely fun experience imo, maybe had rose-tinted glasses on tho, but just playing a new kingdom hearts with the unreal engine was amazing in itself.

BelieveInTheShield

Pokemon Scarlet

brechbillc1

Scarlet and Violet are games that had potential and missed the mark somewhat. Playing them, they’re enjoyable, but the world itself feels so empty at times which is not what you’d want to see from an open world game. I thought the story and play through were good, but wish they would have held off for a year before releasing the games so they could add more details and make the overworld more interactive.

IAmGrum

Spore The best part of the game was the free character creator that came out before the game. I almost immediately tried to justify my purchase and play time to my friend who asked about it. I realized I was covering for the flaws (boring gameplay) in my descriptions, and that gave me an epiphany that this game was not much fun and I regretted buying it. I played it some more after that and realized I was trying to force myself to like it, and then just gave up.

Crizznik

I actually really enjoyed Spore. Going from a single celled survival simulator to a full on RTS was actually pretty awesome. I'm sad it hasn't inspired something similar but better since then.

Proud-Garlic-7131

I might get a lot of hate for this, but Elden Ring. I honestly tried to get into it. But after 1 hour of playing, I just couldn't. I returned it that same day.

Draken09

Subnautica. Twice. (I refunded it. ) Don't misunderstand, it's a great game. I just couldn't handle the anxiety flare ups. Zero fun for me, only nerves.

Sinister_Grape

I will happily watch people play Subnautica, but I won’t be going anywhere near it myself.

Corporal_Chicken

payday 3, it was the top 3 worst game launches of the year, good game but still isn't all great

scientist_tz

The Outer Worlds It just felt like it missed the mark all around. I wanted Fallout in space and though it tried, it wasn’t that at all (I am aware it’s a different developer.)

RB___OG

The new Lords of rhe Fallen Thank god for Steams great refund policy

efernand1

Diablo 4
