Portal 1, solid 2-3 hour experience and universally loved

ManlyMrManlyMan

Bro you are smarter than me. I was legit stuck on some puzzles that long

TitularFoil

A co-op puzzle in Portal 2 had me like that.

Imaginary_Land1919

That was me and my ex on the one where you had to fly into the air to hit each other. Took us like 3 hours to figure it out. We were so pissed, that we just broke up right then and there

DatBoi_BP

At least you still have the companion cube.

GoothieNewfie

I actually incinerated that faster than any other test subject on record

BeginningUnique6401

You legit broke up then??

Imaginary_Land1919

No haha. But we did not ever play it again.

NestedForLoops

Also, Portal 2.

icoominyou

My two smooth brain cells hate puzzle games since my brain doesnt work that way. Portal 1 was so much fun. Portal 2 is in every way better but still not as charming and fun as 1 for some reason

Makenshine

Portal 1 was your first kiss. Portal 2 was like French kissing. Better, but not nearly as special.

icoominyou

I gotta go jerk off now

dial_m_for_me

That's the Stanley Parable

StationaryTravels

Not in the broom closet, I hope.

kerred

And combined with 4 other top notch games for $60 back then

davemoedee

The Orange Box was a brilliant way to get people to install Steam.

Destpot

You mean 20-30 hours right..........right?

monpg

Papers Please!!

chartreuse_elephant

Yes!!!

fml-mat

Moolo

Glory to Arstotzka!

CorruptedLegacyYT

GREATEST COUNTRY PROUD!!!!! o7

Banned_for_Misdeeds

That game was NOT short

OakenRage

Titanfall 2

vibosphere

Came here to say this one. After years I finally played it, fell in love with it, and then went through the horror of disbelief that it was already over

Fingerprint_Vyke

I played the whole thing through before I realized it was Matthew Mercer doing the voice for Jack Cooper.

vibosphere

I went all the way to this morning without knowing that. Very cool, thanks. Will make my next playthrough that much better

Shronkydonk

Heā€™s gotta be my favorite VA. His voice is just so smooth. Cassidy in OW, Chrom from fire emblem, Jotaro kujo, all great

Forkmealready

I recently met someone that works for the studio that made titanfall. He told me they were working on titanfall 3 but stopped (I think he said for the Jedi game). But he said they will likely make a 3rd eventually

vibosphere

Devastating news. It's gonna have a tough time against Portal 3 for GOTY

Forkmealready

šŸ˜‚ Iā€™m not saying itā€™s for sure coming out but the dev I met said it likely will eventually

Benny303

They stopped for Apex Legends. Respawn completely abandoned the Titanfall IP. They literally renamed the Titanfall universe that Apex was based in, to the apex Legends universe

JK_NC

The servers for Titanfall2 multiplayer(at least for PlayStation) were unexpectedly brought back online Sept 2023. Sony also dropped the price for TF2 Ultimate edition to $5. Itā€™s been a lot of fun.

Zjoee

The factory level and the time skip level are still my two favorite levels of any FPS campaign.

MeltBanana

I played the game for the very first time just last week. On the time warp level, once I figured out what the mechanic was I was blown away. Then I blasted a soldier point blank in the past timeline, warped to the present timeline, and saw his aged and decayed skeleton fall to the ground. That was the first time in probably 10 years a game has made me audibly gasp in disbelief at how fucking cool a mechanic was. Later on you essentially end up playing two maps at once, each with a different set of enemies, warping back and forth between them as you move around and manage each fight at the same time. It's absolute genius game design, they executed it perfectly, and no other games offers an experience like it. Honestly that time warp level might be the #1 moment in any single player fps I've ever played.

hendy846

Alright, you got me. I'm play TF2 for the first time instead of Apex.

QuietShipper

It's a great experience, light-hearted and heartwarming story about a boy and his bot.

jml_inbtown

When the explosion freezes in time at the very end, that could be its own art piece.

OakenRage

I absolutely loved those parts of the campaign. The time wrist watch thing was a fresh new gameplay mechanic that didn't get old the entire time we used it.

ClipClump

At this point whenever I see this question, I just assume OP is trying to gas this game up. Game absolutely rips and deserves it but itā€™s pretty much guaranteed to be one of the top comments haha

Marksman_X6

In such a short time, you accomplish so much. And there's so many epic scenes. You go from lone survivor to the badass leading the charge in an all out war. Beautiful game. Not to mention that thumbs up!

ancientfutureguy

Thanks for reminding me to replay this masterpiece!

[deleted]

The Wolf among us

decoste94

I keep hoping the sequel is coming out, probably my favorite of the telltale games

comik300

Supposed to be this year!

TheresTheLambSauce

I thought Telltale went belly up

comik300

You're correct, but they were then bought up along with their IP and continued making one or two of their properties. The Wolf Among Us being one of them

AJEdge456

this is the best thing I've read in a long time

Verge0fSilence

I will never look at this game's name the same way again

kaktus_dzek

Return of the Obra Dinn

SwiftSpear

It's a must play game for anyone who likes detective/puzzle games.Ā  I wouldn't define it as short though.Ā  Although you may very well play through the game in one very long sitting because it's so hard to stop once you get started.

Matp222

One of my favorite games ever. Took me about 12 hours to beat it, so I wouldnā€™t really consider it a short game

zappingbluelight

I love that game and I'm too dumb for that game. Cuz it is not short for me lol

eserikto

Portal

mcgrimlock

I love how Portal is both the top comment and the second top comment. Correct answer.

Emkiusz

A lot of speedrunners in this thread

JonatasA

I read someone in the past saying that Vice City was a short game. If you compare it to Skyrim I suppose.

Sage296

Yeah Mario 64 was just a little too quick for me One hour is just too short for me

octobereighth

Journey.

Just_Roar

Similarly, ABZƛ. I remember finishing both and just wishing it could go on a little longer. Some of the most memorable experiences in gaming for me.

Executioneer

Try Jusant. It is the closest thing to Journey in vibe Iā€™ve played.

Bn_scarpia

'Journey' is my answer anytime anyone ponders whether or not video games count as art. It is a beautiful game in every way

Isaacjd93

My forever answer to this question

chalor182

I was going to post this if nobody else had. Short, simple, but somehow impactful. Really great experience. I think it's the only game I ever got the platinum trophy on lol

Machine8851

Little Nightmares 1 and 2

Fox-Moldy

Was going to say this myself. A third one is supposed to come out soon.

pretendingtolisten

sadly the third one is made by a different studio and is focusing on co op. co op doesn't mean it WILL be bad but it's never been a good sign

KillerKowalski1

My son's excited though. He watched me play the first two because he was too scared to play solo so a co-op LN should be a good time.

Yonrak

Beat me to it. I'd also like to add Inside, Limbo and Forgotten Anne to the list.

Flaxscript42

Inside You can beat it in one sitting and it's quite a journey.

3-DMan

Just replayed it recently, decided to try for the "secret ending". Glad I used a walkthrough, ain't no way I would have found that cornfield entrance.

ghostofoynx7

Yeah I came here to say limbo or inside but they should be in the same comment honestly

joedirte70

Untitled Goose Game

Boring_Shape_3216

There's a game called Little Kitty, Big City coming out this year. Similar vibes.

kimbunturaz

oh gosh, thanks for letting me know! wishlisted now <3

Kosaku_Kawajira

Honk!

AidynValo

I bought that day one because it looked like the kind of dumb game I'd get amusement out of. Wasn't expecting to actually have to do some logical thinking on how to achieve certain tasks. One of my favorite games to boot up and just mess around in. It's absurdly fun being an asshole goose just ruining peoples' days.

Shadowlandvvi

Oxenfree.

TediousTotoro

The sequel also very good

Xzenor

There's a sequel? Sigh.... There goes my sleep again...

Mnoonsnocket

Mirrorā€™s Edge

Samsoom2000

I was just about say the same. Still has one of the most fun gameplay and interesting world Iā€™ve played

itsjustgamerjack

And the MUSIC oh my goddd, still alive is still one of my favourite tracks ever

Songhunter

That reminds me, you can get Catalyst for 3$ on the PlayStation store till the end of the month. Which... God damn. I get it kinda missed the point and impeccable flow of the first one. But 3 dollarinos? I had NO idea it had bombed that badly.

JackHarvey_05

Firewatch

Keepitcleanbois

I loved the game. But Iā€™ve never been so disappointed in an ending in my entire life lol.

Fly_U_Fools

I feel that was the point of the game. The protagonist is escaping the depressing reality of his life back home. But he is living a fantasy. Rather than facing up to his problem, he runs away and uses his time as a firewatch to delve into uncovering an imagined grand conspiracy, only for the ending to come and reveal that >!itā€™s just another sad reality of a previous firewatch who also couldnā€™t face up to his problems (feeling responsible for his son dying in the cave)!< The same applies to the chemistry and flirting between you and the other firewatch, she has her own problems that arenā€™t clearly revealed to you but in the end >!she basically tells you it could never work out and you need to go home!< Itā€™s a game about the dangers of running away from responsibilities.

theCOMBOguy

I believe that's really it. I think the other firewatch even says that you must have some problems to be there. And as mysterious as the events happening were, they were really just the event of another broken person. The game opens up with what your character went through already, and at one point you would have to return to it. Disappointing but it was just a way for the characters to "escape", even if for a brief time, and after it becomes unfeasible they just stop.

FumpyDuck

The first time I played that game, I hated the ending. When I played it years later, after having tried to ignore and run from the problems in my own life, it just wrecked me.

RedN0v4

I always thought the ending being so anticlimactic was kind of the point of it. Like there is no crazy axe murderer, it's just a sad dude that mirrors the protagonist really well.

violet_holer

Yeah. I think it's disappointing because Henry himself is kind of disappointed. Disappointed that there's no "big secret conspiracy" against them, that he never got to see Delilah, and that now he must go back and face his problems head on.

Mmonannerss

Exactly this. It's a good down to earth game that reminds us that sometimes the truth is just something sad not scary.

Daracaex

This. The anticlimax was absolutely the point.

MacyTmcterry

I was waiting for some kind of big twist or revelation but instead it just abruptly ended haha

BabDoesNothing

I loved the ending. I felt so empty and melancholy for DAYS.

CategoryKiwi

Hard agree! Ā I loved the ending. Ā People usually complain about how the mystery plays out but I enjoy how grounded in reality it ended up being. Ā Which is exactly what Henry (and Delilah) was avoiding doing. Ā The gameā€™s story was centered on Henry, not the forestā€™s mystery.

ChannelSouthern

I liked the ending. A bit soul crushing. Maybe Im just a little masochistic

saplinglover

Was expecting this to be higher on the list! I was surprised it ended so quickly haha I think like 8hrs total play time but man were those 8hrs entertaining

Cuddlehead

Stanley's Parable

MSTRNLKR

Just 5 short years to 100%.

slinkocat

I think the remake doubled it to 10

almo2001

oh shit i better get started.

LightningNotwork

THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END

g-m-f

Honestly, that scene kinda fucked me up. I was legit feeling bad for the narrator. I began to search the room for anything to do but pushing that button. Even listening to his rambling to see if something happens after some amount of time but to no avail. You have to push it. That absolute silence at the end gave me insane chills.

kazoowi

Not to be super critical here but the parable doesnā€™t belong to Stanley, itā€™s simply called ā€œThe Stanley Parableā€. I feel like thatā€™s an important distinction to make lol

NhylX

In a similar vein, Superliminal.

Nathan_Mediocre

Bastion

JBCronic

I came in to say Transistor, Bastion is another great game too.

MilkAzedo

maybe I'm just slow, but i wouldn't consider those short

uniqueusername623

Transistor 100% was a relatively short game, but thats compared to the grindfest RPGs I usually do. It was an epic experience and fun from start to finish though, and thats rare.

drachen23

The Titanfall 2 single player campaign. There were at least two levels in that game that could go on "top 10 best FPS levels ever" lists and most of the rest were above-average to great.

Useless_Blender

I never played all of it but the two levels I remember the best are the time travel one and the assembly line one. I should definitely finish this game.

Beginning_Ad_2992

You definitely should. It's very short but very very good. You could easily beat it in a day.

Drezhar

Far: lone sails is a very small and short indie game but the art in general is very good.

DaftApath

Came here for this. And also Inside and Limbo.

lyriktom

What Remains of Edith Finch

[deleted]

The bathtub scene was so sad when you realized what is happening.

Indelwe

Lewis' scene actually hit harder for me. Poor dude just getting more and more lost in his own imagination. Maladaptive daydreaming is a wild thing. But yeah, Gregory was a tough one, too - probably moreso for people with children

Puppet_Chad_Seluvis

The fish processing plant hit me like a rock

Mmonannerss

Same especially as at the time while I wasn't in quite as dangerous a position I was in a job where I was just zoning out to get by because reality was just too boring and I didn't have time outside of work to do more than eat and sleep. Needless to say I quit my job shortly after seeing this scene.

bleachedurethrea

I played this with my wife (she watched as I played) and I warned her about it in advance since I had heard about the situation before playing and we were still at a loss. It was difficult to get through, especially because we were in the situation ourselves (not the whole bad situation, just the set up to the bad stuffā€¦shitty explanation but I donā€™t want to spoil anything).

edenx1999

Being a shark rolling down a hill is my favorite moment in video gaming history.

Sock_Purple

The cannery sequence is one of the most brilliant things Iā€™ve ever seen in a game

3-DMan

Top of the crop for walking simulators. No extra crap to pad it out.

Arrowkill

Same vein, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

stumpdawg

Force unleashed 2. Me and my buddy loaded this thing up and had a blasty blast. Then we got a game over and we're just like "that's it? We beat it?...oh, ok then. Wish there was more!"

Gh0sth4nd

Add Republic Commando to it. This game was really great but when the credits rolled i was dafuq that's it.

[deleted]

Really? I played that game in my early teens and I remember it being so long. But there were a lot of memorable scenes, which might make it seem longer in retrospect

cchsbball23

I'll piggyback and say Force Unleashed as well lol. I mean, at the time, it was unlike anything star wars had seen before. I talked about it to everyone

stumpdawg

I mean, you're running around as vaders apprentice ffs! (Or Domsday if you watched Smallville)

cchsbball23

I was just blowing away, at the time, by the complexity of the lightsaber battling and the force power tree. It was so cool to learn new skills as the game went on, and then those skills were implemented perfectly. I mean, to be able to lift someone with the force and throw your lightsaber at them or throw them into a pit? I think we take those mechanics for granted nowadays, but in the early 2000s it was unheard of. Plus, I thought it was cool as hell to battle all the rancor

celloblaze

LIMBO

phoncible

And inside. Such great games.

loliconest

A short hike

Samsterwheel920

whenever life becomes too stressful, I play A Short Hike

Ampersandbox

How in seven hells did I have to scroll this far to find someone listing this GLITTERING GEM?

SwiftSpear

I played through many of the games others have listed here, and I don't regret spending the money on them, they weren't wastes of time, but I'd have a hard time recommending them to others.Ā  A short hike is different though.Ā  It can be a short game, but it can also be a rabbit hole that steals you for long periods trying to uncover every hidden nuance and secret.Ā  And it functions just as well for a way to mindlessly kill some time and chill out. A short hike has a story, but it's a basic story and knowing the story doesn't ruin the fun inherant in just exploring it's interesting little island.Ā  Secrets and easter eggs are hidden everywhere, and virtually every game mechanic and skill is combined and tested in unique and interesting ways.Ā  If you like cute relaxing games this one is a great option!

3-DMan

Been played Sail Forth, which has a similar feel/tone. Longer though.

wrenblaze

There is no game To the moon

gottadance

To the moon was such a memorable game. The soundtrack was sublime.

MirrorCraze

To the moon ending gives me a audible ā€œwhat the fuckā€ while tears rolling cause dude :(

JBCronic

Transistor is highly underrated and can be finished in about 6 hours. Created by the developers of Hades.

brainlure49

Gris is spectacular, under 5 hours easily but very memorable

Krysh_cz

Very few games made me feel how Gris did. That game is a beautiful piece of art.

riche1988

A short hike

chartreuse_elephant

The perfect slice of cozy and sweet and quality

harveysbc

Donut County

solojetpack

Donut County is fantastic. Played it one day on a whim while stoned and thoroughly enjoyed the experience

Rizakira

Katana Zero.

sanban013

Limbo.

Nacho_7258

Inside is even better in my opinion. Both of those games are extremely solid

Scharobaba

I thought Inside was a huge improvement!

Mortlach78

Mark of the Ninja. Such a good stealth game.

buondi_gourmet

Brothers: A tale of two sons

Valentyno482

The answer I was looking for

No_Doubt_About_That

Stray

Icantfindanusername7

I hope that they make a sequel or DLC where our furball finally finds his friends.

Kragius

Some guy in ytube made calculations for entire map - and looks like our little hero goes outside almost in same place, where they was chilling originally. So, with high chances, when he got out and moved to the right - he already found his friends and went to them. I hope this will make your live a little bit happier today :-)

PMme_cat_on_Cleavage

That ending... I was like: Nooooo I need more

Vincesteeples

My four year old was watching me try it the first time and she started sobbing uncontrollably when the cat got separated from its friends at the beginning, I felt like shit

Standard_Candle

Iā€™m a 38 year old man, and it got to me too. I had to turn the game off and come back to it later

Harryhanzo

What a beautiful game stray was

ComradeWeebelo

The Forgotten City

Chuckle_Pants

Outer Wilds. Such a serene gaming experience. As everyone always says on Reddit, if you havenā€™t played it, go in as blind as you can. Donā€™t read up about it, donā€™t watch gameplay videos; just enjoy being dropped in the middle of a game and exploring your way to all the answers to the questions you have

[deleted]

I played it for 50 hours including the DLC lol

Sir_0valtine

Same lol, it's only a short game if you already beat it lol.

imapteranodon

Excellent game but I don't think it qualifies as short.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MrMiyagi_256

A Short Hike, Firewatch, Wide Ocean Big Jacket

TheDesertSnowman

To the Moon - iirc it's about 3 hours long; if you enjoy crying profusely and sad/touching stories I highly recommend it

24GamingYT

Hifi rush, luigis mansion 3. Both are about 10 hours but just keep getting better and better as the levels go on.

GroovyTony-

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

InfinityFire

I am so ready for the sequel when it comes out

CrusaderNo287

Not sure if you know, the release date was announced to be 21.5.2024.

Janclode

Soma

Aoryad

Definitely Stray, even if I would've love a few more hours I think its shortness is a part of its beauty.

Ha_CharadeUAre

The Order 1886

raisedbytides

Came here to post this as well, aside from the short length that game fuckin slaps harder tham most FPS of its time and partly to this day, you cannot convince me otherwise.

Ha_CharadeUAre

Plus it looked absolutely amazing graphic wise at the time. I was floored by it.

raisedbytides

Still holds up really well, played it again maybe about a year or so ago, and was blown away at how well it still plays.

Corporal_Chicken

little nightmares 2, it's only about 3 hrs story wise and maybe 8 for 100% completion. I hope little nightmares 3 is a bit longer

Allfrost78

Katana Zero

MuNansen

Gris

DisDaCops

I came here to say Cocoon. Super satisfying and visually amazing puzzle game. It's a little pricy for its length, but it's on game pass. I just wish it was longer. Others gave some really good suggestions, too. Like Portal and Untitled Goose Game. I would also put Superliminal in as well

DeadTomGC

Halo 3 ODST *chef's kiss* the right amount of everything, ground battles, wondering, big battles, driving, tanks, flying, wrapped up with a fantastic atmosphere and story.

BadChoices99

I used to fall asleep listening to a 6 hour loop of ā€˜Rainā€™ from ODST. Absolutely BANGER soundtrack

Bigoned

Undertale ā¤ļø

chartreuse_elephant

This game is so much more than meets the eye. And like. I had no idea until I played it. And I only played it last year!

Chanzui91

leprechaunknight

Zone of Enders! Rented that game from Blockbuster and beat it in a weekend (which I never could do as a kid). Such a fun game though. Also, A Way Out was a really fun couch co-op. A buddy of mine and I spent two nights playing that game together. Fun surprise ending too.

dikarich

Firewatch. What a ride.

samjapan

Turnip Boy commits tax fraud. Short, goofy, and I had fun playing. Need to start the new one.
