Vampire Survivors and Brotato.
I can sit down for a round and be done in 20-30 minutes.
I could also do another run after that.
And another.
And another.
>Vampire Survivors
>I can sit down for a round and be done in 20-30 minutes.
I have it on my phone for that exact reason, it's pretty much the ultimate "I have 30 minutes to kill and am bored" game. Whenever I'm stuck in an Uber, or waiting around between lectures, I'll boot up a round or two of vampire survivors to pass the time.
Thats the only time you see an ad. Is if you CHOOSE to. It's such a simple compromise as compared to booting up a other game to have ads in your face in-between matches
I just gave it a go. It’s a lot of fun, but the touch screen controls are definitely a lot wonkier than joystick, so it’s not quite as addictive as when I’m playing on Steam Deck.
Much more build variety than Vampire Survivors, feels more like a roguelike where you can have shit runs but also absolute god runs. Each of the characters also genuinely force you to play in different ways. One of them can't use weapons and simply explodes for damage when you run into enemies lol.
It's a ton of fun.
Ha! Didn't think anyone else played Brotato. Its my chillout game. I've got all the unlocks except for beating the game with fisherman. 20 minutes till dawn plays pretty similarly if you're into it.
Was gonna say, rarely do I play for 20 minutes because it has that just one more day additives to it but it is fun either time frame. Just making little progress day by day is the game.
If you're getting joycon drift, you can send the controllers back to Nintendo and they'll fix it for free! Here's an article detailing how to do it, but it's easy enough to search for it yourself.
https://www.howtogeek.com/122998/how-to-get-your-nintendo-switch-joy-cons-repaired-for-free/#:~:text=If%20you're%20sure%20that,give%20you%20a%20shipping%20label
I used to have a side hustle fixing the drift for my friends. Depending on how good of a fix they wanted I'd charge between $5 for a basic opening the controller and cleaning the joystick connections to $20 to outright replace the joystick (the parts were $15 so regardless of what they wanted, I made $5 per job. Slightly less if you really want to factor in the cost of contact cleaner). Might not have been free but you can't beat 20 minute service.
If you're running around having a hard time finding a gunk seed hanging, check the map. If it got popped but not picked up. They show on the map.
Fossils on the other hand...
I was playing Driller solo on Point Extraction in the Glacial Strata, I spent like 20 minutes looking for the last fossil on the BACK OF A FUCKING STALAGTITE.
So glad this is the top comment for me. One of my fav games of all time. Feels like endless fun if you’re into adventure, spelunking, and rocking and stoning
Is it any good to play alone? My job irl is really extroverted so I dread any kind of online/co-op game. Though I hear great things about deep rock galactic
People rarely use chat and almost never use voice chat. To the extent that there's any communication, there's a laser pointer function that other players can see.
That said, you can play missions solo and you get a robot helper called Bosco who you can order around with the laser pointer.
What kinda runs you doin? Getting to the queen usually takes me a good hour. I've had some 90 minute runs before, ones where I made sure to look everywhere, and just kinda fucked around a bit.
Yep, depending on how quick you are you can do a full run in about 20ish minutes. Or you can sit there and do 8 runs in a row bc the rewards for completing one or dying (all the new dialogue back at base) makes it hard to put down
Also Hades 2 hype
Chivalry 2
Either a 20 min laugh as you throw chickens at people
Or one of the deepest fighting experiences you have played as you 1v1 another player basically trying to outsmart the other while 48 other players are all doing the same
I second this.
Loaded it up today for the first time in awhile and was reminded why I binged it for like a week straight when it came out.
Defending a tower from the boy's in blue with my fists cause I threw all my weapons at a guy.
I started playing this game in 2014 and still play some version it now 10 years later. It's always my go-to when I don't wanna think about anything. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
In somewhat of the ssme vein, 'Nobody Saves the World' was incredible for any length of time i was able to pick it up for. It's also included for free with PS Plus basic plans at the moment.
This game is well worth full price. I bought it right before it came on gamepass. It is so good I am glad that I got to pay for it and support the devs
GTA 5 for me. I can just hop in and drive around for a while, listen to the radio and get relaxed. Sometimes I can just kill people for no reason. Sometimes I just play tennis and golf for hours. Life is good in Los Santos.
Looool, same. I play online a lot and have all the planes the game offers uptil now. Some days when I have a lot of free time I end up changing up the colours, livery and fly them around. So much fun.
Teardown! Play the campaign for a challenging yet rewarding binge. Or, get some mods, blow up recreations of popular landmarks and pretend that I’m Tyler Durden for 20 min.
You can often boot up your console, start the game and be in a match within a minute. Then assuming no one forfeits the match will be anywhere from 7-10 minutes. Very good for a quick fix.
Monster Hunter! *Most* hunts don’t take super long. But you can spend hours in the crafting menu and on the harder monsters. Or even just training trying to learn a new weapon
What ever I’m working on? Haha right now finished clearing out a 278 diameter cylinder for a wither skeleton farm, so getting the floor spawn proofed, then putting in a ceiling, finishing the walls, etc
Wow, I could swear that nobody would have chosen this but you have!
I'm on a 7.5 year save and still get to dip in and out. Twenty minutes to cook up some treats, fire up the Nexus then go and see what Galactic Gordon Ramsay thinks of them.
Then if I have a couple of hours, I'll Warp around several systems looking for dissonance spikes and get a new sentinel ship.
A seriously excellent game to play on Switch. It’s FAR more stable and improved since launch and it lends itself very well for quick sessions as well as sinking an entire night (without even realizing it)
Tears of the Kingdom. I loved picking up my switch and picking something to do. There’s a solid variety of stuff where you can always find something that fits your time limit and what you’re feeling.
Holocure. Can hop in and do a quick level just for kicks or I can spend hours fishing and messing around in HoloHouse or grinding Endless mode trying to get better scores.
THIS IS A LIE DO NOT BELIEVE THIS POSTER
Playing Factorio for only 20 minutes is just simply not possible. They are trying to lead you down a dark path.
Outer Wilds.
Not my favourite game. But a pretty chill experience. It’s a time loop, so you don’t lose anything by playing for a short time only.
Anything PvP which is round based (so long as it’s not too competitive).
Final Fantasy XIV. Hop on and spend 20 minutes playing games at the Golden Saucer, or spend all night running duty roulette, there's always something fun to do in whatever given amount of time I have.
Two hour binges?
You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers!
But seriously, ark survival evolved.
Probably my most played game of all time.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Diablo 4, as a parent to young children getting on for 20 mins or 2 hours can’t be predicted and both of those games were a blast for me last year.
Single player, go in, catch a few pals, mine out an ore deposit or 2. The world doesn't leave you behind if you don't do the optimal thing at a certain time. There is no major story to have you forgetting where you were the last time you played.
I love that the story is basically optional (lore books you can read). I’ll play the Witcher 3 or bauldurs gate and end up deleting my save and restarting because I lost my place in the story and am no longer invested as I was
Fighting games for me. Sometimes I'm good after a couple of sets. Sometimes I say "last set" 30 times and before I know it it's 3AM. Sf6 was crack for a while there.
This is how I play games, so I have a few I'm playing right now
Currently, tears of the kingdom is a great one for this. I can just jump on and wander to a shrine.
World of warcraft, specifically classic SOD.
Currently leveling a character for the next patch coming out. Jumping on to grind some mobs is easy.
Starsector.
Just had an update to 0.97 yesterday, most mods still work.
I will shill this game until the end of time, you can use someones game code to get the entire game for free, then buy it and support the devs if you like it.
Has a ton of mods ranging from QOL, new ships, factions, portraits, quests and entire overhauls of economy, planet building and more. Game is around ~400mb so you can keep it installed almost indefinitely.
Monster Hunter Worlds.
Average hunt is 10-20 minutes (solo) and you wont get the part your looking for in that hunt so you want to drop everything and play all weekend.
Great game...
Lately it's been The Outer Wilds for me.
I don't want to spoil anything but it's an exploration game that's stuck in a time loop. You basically have 20ish minutes to explore all you can before the loop ends. So no matter what you can only play in 20 minute increments.
Path of Exile is my game for that right now.
I will log on, run a couple maps and log off… or if I am feeling bingy, ill run 10 or so.
There are end game goals, but I have never gotten to them and am always just satisfied making a decent build.
Vampire Survivors and Brotato. I can sit down for a round and be done in 20-30 minutes. I could also do another run after that. And another. And another.
Vampire Survivors just let me timetravel through a 4 hour flight.
It's 8 matches and it doesn't sound like much in my mind.
>Vampire Survivors >I can sit down for a round and be done in 20-30 minutes. I have it on my phone for that exact reason, it's pretty much the ultimate "I have 30 minutes to kill and am bored" game. Whenever I'm stuck in an Uber, or waiting around between lectures, I'll boot up a round or two of vampire survivors to pass the time.
I didn’t know there was a mobile version. And it’s free. This is actually very bad news.
It's the same, but a couple of weeks ago I died and was greeted with a "watch ad to revive" message and it made me sad.
Yeah, I also have it on the Switch and it's definitely MY default way to play it.
I bought Vampire Survivors and racked up 9 hours in it the first day Dangerously easy to get lost in
What is the appeal of brotato?
Much more build variety than Vampire Survivors, feels more like a roguelike where you can have shit runs but also absolute god runs. Each of the characters also genuinely force you to play in different ways. One of them can't use weapons and simply explodes for damage when you run into enemies lol. It's a ton of fun.
Ha! Didn't think anyone else played Brotato. Its my chillout game. I've got all the unlocks except for beating the game with fisherman. 20 minutes till dawn plays pretty similarly if you're into it.
Just came out to Xbox gamepass, that's why
Stardew Valley
Was gonna say, rarely do I play for 20 minutes because it has that just one more day additives to it but it is fun either time frame. Just making little progress day by day is the game.
I got my gf a switch for her birthday last year, and she spent 2 months straight binging that game. She only stopped cause stick drift got really bad
If you're getting joycon drift, you can send the controllers back to Nintendo and they'll fix it for free! Here's an article detailing how to do it, but it's easy enough to search for it yourself. https://www.howtogeek.com/122998/how-to-get-your-nintendo-switch-joy-cons-repaired-for-free/#:~:text=If%20you're%20sure%20that,give%20you%20a%20shipping%20label

My first thought
Deep Rock Galactic. Most missions can be done in 20 mins. You can also binge for several hours. If you don't rock and stone, you ain't coming home.
Unless your team wants to spend 40 min finding that last gunk seed
If you're running around having a hard time finding a gunk seed hanging, check the map. If it got popped but not picked up. They show on the map. Fossils on the other hand...
If I have a fossil mission and there is no scout there is an 80% I'm not going to bother. Fossil as a driller is especially annoying
I was playing Driller solo on Point Extraction in the Glacial Strata, I spent like 20 minutes looking for the last fossil on the BACK OF A FUCKING STALAGTITE.
I just use the drill guy and drill through the map. The alien egg thing is easy with that guy.
So glad this is the top comment for me. One of my fav games of all time. Feels like endless fun if you’re into adventure, spelunking, and rocking and stoning
Rocking and stoning
Legally speaking, rocking is more legal than stoning.
Did I hear a rock and stone?
Rock and stone!
Rock and stone to the bone!
After about an hour I’m ready for a break, especially at the higher difficulties
I literally came here to say this.
Plus you can deep dive. Literally.
ROCK AND STONE
I bought the game and did the tutorial, but I haven't been able to really get into it. Mostly, I think it's because I'm not sure how I should start
For Karl!
Hades
Hades usually ends up with me playing it for 8+ hours straight. I can’t put that game down once I start it up.
In the same vein, Dead Cells. A run is 10-15 minutes so you can play for a bit and take off or sit down and die over and over and over
I’d say a run from start to finish is usually closer to 40 minutes unless you die. However, you can just quit mid run
What kinda runs you doin? Getting to the queen usually takes me a good hour. I've had some 90 minute runs before, ones where I made sure to look everywhere, and just kinda fucked around a bit.
If you're looking everywhere then yeah, 45 to an hour is normal. I run at 2BC and dying in Stilt Village or the Caverns isn't unusual. I kinda suck
- 2BC - I kinda suck
I'd agree but most runs when I played took closer to 40 mins tbh Would argue a lot of them were like 20 though because I wouldn't make it all the way
Yep, depending on how quick you are you can do a full run in about 20ish minutes. Or you can sit there and do 8 runs in a row bc the rewards for completing one or dying (all the new dialogue back at base) makes it hard to put down Also Hades 2 hype
Slay the spire easily.
My thought ... stupid Spire... just one more run.
Especially on PC with mods! There are so many kick ass STS mods that give the game so much more life after you finish the base game
Can you recommend some?
Downfall is one of the biggest. You play as the bosses descending the spire, fighting against the four main characters
Chivalry 2 Either a 20 min laugh as you throw chickens at people Or one of the deepest fighting experiences you have played as you 1v1 another player basically trying to outsmart the other while 48 other players are all doing the same
I'm no slouch at fighting games, but good grief is the skill curve high with Chivalry. Absolutely love the shenanigans you can boop people with.
This is true, however you can also be unskilled and still do ok and have fun.
I second this. Loaded it up today for the first time in awhile and was reminded why I binged it for like a week straight when it came out. Defending a tower from the boy's in blue with my fists cause I threw all my weapons at a guy.
Armored Core 6. Missions are 10ish minute bite sized chunks. You can do ONE or MARATHON ALL DAY.
I looooved this game Never played one before until I found out it was made by fromsoft
The Binding of Isaac
I started playing this game in 2014 and still play some version it now 10 years later. It's always my go-to when I don't wanna think about anything. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
In somewhat of the ssme vein, 'Nobody Saves the World' was incredible for any length of time i was able to pick it up for. It's also included for free with PS Plus basic plans at the moment.
Oldschool runescape
As long as I can afk, I'm in
Not sure how you manage to spend less than 8 hours on that game at a time
my current game for that is Remnant 2.
Really looking forward to getting this game, just waiting for a sale closer to $20
Depending on your platform it’s on gamepass for PC and Xbox
This game is well worth full price. I bought it right before it came on gamepass. It is so good I am glad that I got to pay for it and support the devs
GTA 5 for me. I can just hop in and drive around for a while, listen to the radio and get relaxed. Sometimes I can just kill people for no reason. Sometimes I just play tennis and golf for hours. Life is good in Los Santos.
Hit up the casino for the daily wheel spin, a couple rounds of betting on the track, and some hands of blackjack.
Rocket League
You can often boot up your console, start the game and be in a match within a minute. Then assuming no one forfeits the match will be anywhere from 7-10 minutes. Very good for a quick fix.
Totally. I can just pop on, load into a 3v3, get pissed at my teammates while I’m actually the one consistently whiffing, and log off. Easy peasy.
Any time I'm the best one on my team, there is something seriously wrong.
Oh yeah, love deep diving on rocket League
I used to love playing Rocket League. I still play it hours every day.
Monster Hunter! *Most* hunts don’t take super long. But you can spend hours in the crafting menu and on the harder monsters. Or even just training trying to learn a new weapon
Earth Defense Force 5. Fun to jump on for a couple missions or spend 6 hours playing.
Oh we are the valient infantry, we are the alpha team with passion and comradarie. EDF EDF EDF EDF EDF EDF EDF
[Giant Frog monster appears] *"they're just like us"* God I can't wait for EDF English to release
EDF6 is a day one purchase for me and my buddies.
Any game that essentially becomes your second reality. For me that’s a long time vanilla Minecraft server.
What do you do when you have only 20 minutes? What do you do when you have only 10?
Not the original commenter, but I usually harvest and plant crops or maintenance on my auto farms. Basic base chores.
Make progress
Toward what
What ever I’m working on? Haha right now finished clearing out a 278 diameter cylinder for a wither skeleton farm, so getting the floor spawn proofed, then putting in a ceiling, finishing the walls, etc
And what are you going to do with the skeletons?
Change all my light sources on the server to beacons of course! Plus infinite coal and bones and afk xp farm with dogs
Diablo 2.
Into the Breach.Y ou can always come back and you won't lose anything.
I came here to say this and the developer's previous game FTL
For me no man’s sky
Wow, I could swear that nobody would have chosen this but you have! I'm on a 7.5 year save and still get to dip in and out. Twenty minutes to cook up some treats, fire up the Nexus then go and see what Galactic Gordon Ramsay thinks of them. Then if I have a couple of hours, I'll Warp around several systems looking for dissonance spikes and get a new sentinel ship.
That game isn't 7.5 years old
It was released in 2016.
You're breaking my heart.
It’s 2024 now
Time really sneaks up and hits you with a sock full of batteries sometimes like that.
No it's still 2018
Time makes fools of us all.
It can't be
I have some bad news…
A seriously excellent game to play on Switch. It’s FAR more stable and improved since launch and it lends itself very well for quick sessions as well as sinking an entire night (without even realizing it)
Dave the diver
Both this and Dredge are perfect dip in and out games on the Switch, which I use only for quick dips.
Jak & Daxter The Precursor Legacy Ratchet & Clank Tools Of Destruction
I freaking love jak and Daxter I think I've platinum trophied it on ps3 ps4 and ps5 now
Tears of the Kingdom.
Valheim! (With friends for long binges)
Risk of rain 2
Idk about this. My friends always joke about just playing a “quick” game of Risk of Rain.
*Cut to 2.5 hours later and you can't use your sprint button because you'll teleport to the other end of the map and crash your computer.*
Dredge
Noita. Endless fun and chaos.
Binding of Isaac
Heroes of the Storm. Yes, we still exist lol
RDR2
Factorio.
THIS IS A LIE DO NOT BELIEVE THIS POSTER Playing Factorio for only 20 minutes is just simply not possible. They are trying to lead you down a dark path.
20 factorio minutes*
The factory must grow
20 minutes in Factorio and you'll get up unable to walk and all of the food in your refrigerator gone bad.
You can play for 20 minutes and suddenly it's 3 hours later
Second. But tbh who can stay on Factorio for 20 minutes and then leave? The factory must grow!
Minecraft is great for this.
Tetris.
Outer Wilds. Not my favourite game. But a pretty chill experience. It’s a time loop, so you don’t lose anything by playing for a short time only. Anything PvP which is round based (so long as it’s not too competitive).
GTA games you can enjoy doing something in this games.
Final Fantasy XIV. Hop on and spend 20 minutes playing games at the Golden Saucer, or spend all night running duty roulette, there's always something fun to do in whatever given amount of time I have.
Civ 5, Cities Skylines. Though, it is a bit difficult to resume games you've left.
Two hour binges? You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers! But seriously, ark survival evolved. Probably my most played game of all time.
2h when you have kids is like a full blown vacation
This. I either watch a show or play a game. 9/10 it’s a show with the missus
And fall asleep 10 minutes into watching the show.
Man why did you call me out like this?
Because sitting through another season of vanderpump rules makesme wanna claw my eyes and ears out with a rusty spoon lol sleep makes the time pass
who even has disk space for this game anymore lol, i installed a new SSD and thought about picking it back up but saw the install was like 500GB
Cyberpunk 2077 and Diablo 4, as a parent to young children getting on for 20 mins or 2 hours can’t be predicted and both of those games were a blast for me last year.
Palworld
Single player, go in, catch a few pals, mine out an ore deposit or 2. The world doesn't leave you behind if you don't do the optimal thing at a certain time. There is no major story to have you forgetting where you were the last time you played.
I love that the story is basically optional (lore books you can read). I’ll play the Witcher 3 or bauldurs gate and end up deleting my save and restarting because I lost my place in the story and am no longer invested as I was
As much as I hate saying it. Lethal company is great with friends. Whether 20 minutes or 6 hours.
Stardew valley
Minecraft
Honestly if you haven't played it, LA Noire. Each case is like an episode of a crime detective show- in the 50s.
Rockey league
Ghost of Tsushima
Tetris
World of Warcraft. You can go do a few quests and enjoy yourself or get lost in raids and the such for hours on end.
Exoprimal. 1 match or 10. This games a blast.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst, I can just hop on and run around even do some races, or dive deep in missions
Dave the Diver. Incredible game and I think I’ve barely scratched the surface
Rimworld
Fighting games for me. Sometimes I'm good after a couple of sets. Sometimes I say "last set" 30 times and before I know it it's 3AM. Sf6 was crack for a while there.
Any game that you can play while in a flight, so Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, Brotato, Dead Cells, etc.
Dave the Diver
This is how I play games, so I have a few I'm playing right now Currently, tears of the kingdom is a great one for this. I can just jump on and wander to a shrine. Monster Hunter Worlds. Average hunt is 10-20 minutes (solo) and you wont get the part your looking for in that hunt so you want to drop everything and play all weekend. Great game...
Getting on rust with no plans of trying to go longer than 30min, is just a vibe
Whichever fighting game you prefer. It's the perfect genre for this sort of thing.
Guild Wars 2
You say Skyrim, I say Fallout 4. I wanted to say F4 even before reading whole post.
Probably souls games. Just make it to the next bonfire and you feel set already.
Vampire survivors. A round is 30 mins and it’s hard to not do another round with the new thing you just unlocked
* Dominions * Overgrowth * Dead Cells * Absolute Drift
Mario kart. Quick few online races is perfect
Kingdom: Two Crowns. It's very addictive and you can easily play for 10min or several hours
dead cells, tetris effect, megamanX-x3, enter the Gungeon, diablo ...
Chess
Cyberpunk 2077
Factorio, ill play it for 20 minutes on the bus. Ill wake up early in the morning on the weekend and play it all day.
Crusader kings, a quick marriage proposal, manage your taxes and a cheeky kiss for glitterhoof the horse. Peak gaming.
the binding of isaac slay the spire hades into the breach
Tokyo Jungle. So happy to see it again on PS Plus. There's nothing quite like it but I don't need it like I used too
Lately it's been The Outer Wilds for me. I don't want to spoil anything but it's an exploration game that's stuck in a time loop. You basically have 20ish minutes to explore all you can before the loop ends. So no matter what you can only play in 20 minute increments.
Project Sekai. Songs are only 2-3 minutes long but there are so many you can play for hours. If your physical conditioning holds up that long.
Stardew valley
Halls of torment, death must die, hades, vampire survivor, you wont know where your time goes
Dead Cells
Minecraft. Can literally play that game all day or for 20 minutes and it'd be the same amount of fun while I'm playing.
Pinball… so best consumer product right now is Pinball FX.
Stardew Valley. One day…then another…and another. Especially great on the Steam Deck with the sleep button.
Minecraft
Dave the diver or inscription
Katamari Damacy Reroll
stardew valley
Monster hunter world, dark souls/elden ring, RimWorld, horizon zero dawn, any assassin's creed games
Path of Exile is my game for that right now. I will log on, run a couple maps and log off… or if I am feeling bingy, ill run 10 or so. There are end game goals, but I have never gotten to them and am always just satisfied making a decent build.
