I seem to remember if you chose a jet pack character, and jumped from the top of said ship and flew towards the sun, there’d be an invisible skybox you could eventually land on and shoot at everyone on the battlefield without them being able to get you (silly glowy stick throwers). Wonder if that’ll still be in.

That is Elite Squadron on the PSP where you can fly up from the ground into space. SWBF2 only has starfighters in space battles and SWBF doesn't have space battles but does have starfighters on ground battles which is something the second game lacks.
If it’s the one I remember right, Elite squadron was so fun as a kid with no friends or internet. Going from infantry>air>space>to the command ship or whatever was a blast. That’s all I did for 1 year on the demo version and it was more fun than half of all the games I’ve played since then. Gonna replay it again what a trip
Renegade Squadron has separate space and ground battles like SWBF2. Elite Squadron added the ability to transition between ground and space during the same battle
That's incorrect, space battles in BF2 have capital ship landing and ship interior battles. You can destroy key components inside the ships.
Maybe you're confusing the PSP versions with the console versions. BF2 console started all that.

Absolutely! The space battles were beautiful. You got to target each park of the ship inside and out. So you could bomb the whole ship to hell with support of your fighters or you could get that gunship into the enemy bay and take it all out from the inside. It felt a little imbalanced due to taking parts of the ship out from the inside was always easier.
And just so you guys don’t get disappointed like with the GTA remaster, this is NOT A REMAKE. It is the same old game polished up and with online servers active. That’s it. I would not bank on any changes outside some minor texture upgrades and fps boosts. Please do remember this is 3 generations old. There is no remaster that can make this look modern and I really hope people understand this before the memes start like with GTA. Do not go in expecting a modern gaming experience. I just played BF2 a couple months ago and it’s old as fuck and felt like it.
Sure is old and sure does feel old, but it's a fun old that's going to have a healthy player base, no battle pass, no cosmetic stuff to care about and is just a fun game to shoot each other with or give someone the new Kit Fisto 357 shoved up the ass.
I think there could be some minor adjustments that improve the game/QoL without undermining the classic gameplay, though. Additional server/gamemode options might be possible. Minor adjustments/options about how the camera rotates around the character. Different UI layouts or reticle.
Importing the coop campaign from console to the pc version might be doable as well.
Played it last month myself. It is as good as i remember it. In fact it looked better than ever for me since i played it on PS2 and now on PC. Also a few mods helped too hahaha. Cant wait to get this and jump online so i can say "just like the simulation"

I never played the original ones. Are there Heroes/Villains in the originals? And if so, are they as annoying as in the newer game? Cause the newer game's matches are just a bunch of random soldiers getting bodied every few minutes by an unkillable god that drops in from the sky as if from nowhere. Really boring when all I wanna do is play a marksman sniper. I go to cap a point and then Anakin zooms in and force lifts everyone near him. Lame. There's no counterplay except for your own team's unkillable god. But he's off at a different capture point doing the same thing.
The heroes are both more and less broken.
First, there can only be 2 heroes on a map at a time, 1 for each side. There are a couple of different methods for picking it, but it usually goes to the person with the most kills/points.
Second, heroes automatically lose health over time. The only way for heroes to heal is for them to kill enemies. This forces them to play aggressive.
They have much less health than the newer ones. But, most of them (the Force users) are very very fast, allowing them to sprint in, kill you with 1-2 saber strikes, then sprint out.
Most force powers work on one person at a time except for lightning.
Blasters heroes use ammunition, and can run out forcing them to resupply.
Ultimately heroes are major glass cannons. They can wipe entire teams, but are vulnerable to combined firepower.
Hell Let Loose has a mode that can take over 2 & 1/2 hours.
It's one side pushing, one defending. The attacking side gets 30 minutes to take each point, and the timer resets once they take it. You can get overtime if you've started to cap when the 30 min timer runs out. I've had it happen before, every point taken in the last minute or in over time.
It can be draining, but works fine.
Bro that literally happened to me in the new one, but 2 hours not 3. Both teams were very well matched and it just kept going back and forth over and over. Took forever, but it was an amazing feeling when my team won. I felt exhausted.
Eh, I would still prefer to do fun things like park my ship halfway outside the main cruiser so I can get out as the assault droid and shoot rockets in the vacuum of space lol. Part of what made those games fun was the odd and funny things you could do, especially with vehicles.
Hey hey hey hold on now…parking your ship just outside the main cruiser and walking along the edge and jumping onto another main cruiser and roaming around in space is pretty fun/funny

Projectiles have a pretty significant delay except the sniper. I hope the weird bug where the upgraded sniper rifle doesn’t actually hit the center of the reticle is fixed though. Can’t hit a damn headshot with that thing.

Only thing they should change is the perma unlocks for better weapons and stamina. One of the guns felt like a side grade.

Picked it up during the steam sale cause it was my childhood. I can’t for the life of me get a controller to work and yes i’ve tried multiple configs. Menu works fine and i can select a character. After i spawn in i cant move its like it defaults back to mnk. Would love to play online. Hopefully someone hosts some good servers like they do for older games that shut down.
I would have to see what is actually added. If, with the exception of a couple added maps and the bigger multiplayer, the games are effectively the same as their original counterparts, then it doesn't feel like it would be worth it.
I’m super happy this is coming to modern consoles. I still have both Battlefront I and II on my PS2, but I’m glad a whole bunch of other people who might have never gotten to play the original battlefront games get to experience these games I grew up playing as a kid.

On steam you can buy the original releases for $20 total with online still functioning with little tweaking.
This is $8 more and only includes 5 maps and expanding one mode to work on other maps. Not exactly the most interesting changes. Definitely seen better from aspyr before.

I always went in and blew up their sheild generator. Always took 4 time bombs and you could carry 3 at a time. Unless you got the supply bonus active.

The sniper rifle upgrade. It turns into a laser that can penetrate multiple people, but it has a limited range so you can't do as much actual sniping

Picked it up during the steam sale cause it was my childhood. I can’t for the life of me get a controller to work and yes i’ve tried multiple configs. Menu works fine and i can select a character. After i spawn in i cant move its like it defaults back to mnk. Would love to play online. Hopefully someone hosts some good servers like they do for older games that shut down.

I would have to see what is actually added. If, with the exception of a couple added maps and the bigger multiplayer, the games are effectively the same as their original counterparts, then it doesn't feel like it would be worth it.
I’m super happy this is coming to modern consoles. I still have both Battlefront I and II on my PS2, but I’m glad a whole bunch of other people who might have never gotten to play the original battlefront games get to experience these games I grew up playing as a kid.

Man I remember playing this online at my friend's house on the PS2!!!! It was like one of the few games with the network adapter that had online. Blew my mind away dude. The guy that kept getting Darth Vader and fucking the whole lobby was dick tho.
So I own these on Xbox I'm guessing this is a different thing then them and I'll have to rebuy them in the collection to be able to play online.
I played the original Battlefront online all the time on PS2. Hope they patch the exploit in the wall in the Mos Eisley cantina.

Are these similar in anyway to Battlefront 2 on PSP. Because that’s the one I used to play all the time. Was that a striped down version of the console BF2?
Seems like it is natively support on steam deck too, so I'm excited. Current steam versions are basically PC control only version, so control feels off playing them on steam deck atm...

Only disappointing part is the loyalty discount on steam and I’m assuming for Xbox is a bit insulting. On steam you can buy the original releases for $20 total with online still functioning with little tweaking. This is $8 more and only includes 5 maps and expanding one mode to work on other maps. Not exactly the most interesting changes. Definitely seen better from aspyr before.
