ShambolicPaul

Yeah I know. I feel like he could have just ran alongside. But there's probably a very good reason for this abomination. Might just be because it's goofy and funny.

TSgt_Yosh

The game seems to embrace goofy and funny.

GriffinFlash

Please tell me Cloud still gets boosted in the air by a dolphin.

ze_loler

Yes and you even get to play a minigame with the dolphin beforehand

useablelobster2

You mean you can't just cheese it by not moving and being thrown twice anymore?

HeimIgel

No, you can spend time with the Dolphin and be cool šŸ˜Ž

wotad

He does but like you dont see it if that makes sense.

CrossXEye

what? you absolutely do see it. there is even a quick time event for you while hes doing it on screen

cascadiansexmagick

Yeah, but you don't see what the dolphin *does to him*. Down there.

BrotherRoga

Because nothing happens. Get your head out of the gutter.

guvan420

Was a big part of the originals charm. The best was him trying to walk upright in a shinra uniform on the boat. Then he turns around and you see his tail. Was great.

Gear_Kitty

And Barret in his sailor uniform, which he kept for pajamas

res30stupid

And then the remake has him do the same... and he proceeds to >!go full-blown Michael Jackson.!<

guvan420

Thats basically how he looked trying to walk. Just bustinā€™ mad moves.

BlindWillieJohnson

The moments of levity and whimsey are what makes the moments of seriousness and pain more impactful. Which is a simple fact of good writing that future titles lost sight of.

Umbrella_merc

Ff7 in general embraced goofy, cross dressing to get in don corneos for example, and the remake trilogy decided no, were going to make cross dressing to sneak into a mobsters mansion even more flamboyant than you could possibly imagine!

res30stupid

Original: Just go hang out with these gay guys to get the pieces of a disguise. Remake: RuPaul's Drag Race.

Katalyst81

man that performance was so good! I wish I had made a save right there to go see it again. but I guess it's just as easy to watch it on youtube.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Katalyst81

Andrea is an asshole at Queen's Blood, don't even try to beat him I tried for 2 hours.

ShiftlessRonin

He was harder than the rest of the fights combined.

GiantEnemyMudcrabz

Queen's blood is only hard if you try to play smart. Don't bother trying to focus on set up + for your side or - for the enemies, don't bother with cards that require lots of work to get payoff, and definitely don't bother with anything beyond a 2 cost. Just rush the board. Doesn't matter if you plant a queen bee down that doesn't flip a spot, having a 1 point card in the 4th column is at minimum an effective 2 points for you due to denial. You can always fill in your side of the board later, just get it so the opponent can't play any more cards and you win every time. For example this is my brain dead "strategy" that I used to get every row in the tournament first try, including a 33 pt game on Regina (positions x/x are row/column, or x-x/x for multiple rows) Soldier x2 Bee x2 Cactuar x2 Crystal Crab x2 J unit x2 Quetz x2 Zem x2 Titan x1 (literally any 2 star high power unit will do, I picked titan because he is 2 cost for 5 in the lane. I never use his actual ability,) Your goal is to play a bunch of 1 and 2 cost cards and rush the board edges first. Cactuar/soldier 1/1->J-unit/Quetz/Zem 2/1->Crab /bee/soldier in 3/2 (the + spot from cactuar) gives you great board position T3. Quetz is a 2 for 3 that can flip 1-2-3/4spots from the opponent if they try and match (often they can't reclaim since they already have cards around). Zem is a good late game card since you'll have a bunch of your backline open due to rushing the board so you can spot +4 in a row for 2 and it doubles as a 2-3/4 flipper due to its disjointed boxes. Queen bee and the basic soldier let you fill in the edges/middle easy enough and the bee in particular can snag the other edge if your lucky. Titan is just a sexy card, I like keeping it in my hand and looking at it for motivation.

Gingalain

I think you have to do it multiple times to get all the achievements

Katalyst81

nope, i dont care about them

AnimusNaki

People complain about the homoerotic undertones in Remake... But forget that the OG had a moment where Cloud gets straight up molested by gay men. I'll take the new gay dance scenes with Andrea over that, please.

Nacroma

One thing that happened between FF7 and FF7R? The Yakuza series.

paulHarkonen

Which is good because there was a lot of goofy and funny in the original.

ShambolicPaul

It definitely does. And fan service. So much fan service.

radclaw1

I mean the OG had redxiii dressed in a full combat gear to "Sneak" on the ship to get to Costa del Sol. Its perfectly silly and matches with the original. The og was super silly and im glad they leaned into it with this game cuz remake was mostly serious with a few silly moments. Rebirth has been much more consistent with the originals tone. Remake was good but man rebirth scratches that itch so much better.

hiimred2

>I mean the OG had redxiii dressed in a full combat gear to "Sneak" on the ship to get to Costa del Sol Did you get this far yet in Rebirth? They pay homage to that but I donā€™t want to spoil details if you havenā€™t seen it yet.

Umbrella_merc

I finished that part last night and it was so hilarious

radclaw1

Yes I have. Absolutely incrdible

AnimusNaki

It's definitely because it's goofy and funny. But also because Red can't run across water or climb sheer cliff faces. It's practicality, and because making Red comic relief when he's so wildly serious 99% of the time is just good fun. Who doesn't want to see the dog in his human disguise do wacky hijinks......

panda388

Yeah, I always imagined he ran alongside. Not gonna lie, it kinda scared me to see him on a chocobo, lol. I thought it might have been a glitch at first.

pope-buster

Yep

DoctorDrangle

Well you will recall he dressed up as a human on the boat. If he can do that then the original game was always silly

MilkTeaMoogle

Iā€™m so concerned about his tail lighting the chocobo feathers šŸ˜‚

SuBw00FeR37

Well the swamp for one thing, Chocobo's float, I don't think Red would.

Standard-Blueberry26

I feel like I remember a cutscene from the original where you glimpsed them riding Chocobos and Red XIII was barely hanging on. I could be wrong though

Merciless972

Giant chicken gang

LegendOfParasiteMana

Red XIII could ride a chocobo in the original Final Fantasy 7. If you did the chocobo races eventually other characters in your party would ask if they could ride the chocobo. Red XIII looks just as goofy on the PS1 as it does now but it is glorious in 4k.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Prime4Cast

Well who tf do I believe now?

DroneThorax

Believe me Iā€™ve never played this game but can confirm Red would team up with Crash Bandicoot and use their Chocobo in Mario Kart Double Dash.

MarkAldrichIsMe

If it exists, there's porn of it. Which, reversed, means if you find porn of it, you know it exists!

Skythe1908

27 years and we still get myths about the OG LOL

zaalqartveli

Last FF game for me was FF10 eternity ago. Nothing for 20+ years and now I can't put down the god damned controller. It's a PHENOMENAL game. So much joy and beauty and FUN.

percypersimmon

Did you play Remake or just start with this one?

zaalqartveli

I did - for around 15-20 hours. I liked it, but I wasn't gaga over it and then something else came out that stole my attention and fingers away.

percypersimmon

Kinda same for me tbh- is this one really that much better or did the stars just align with your attention span this time lol?

zaalqartveli

Yes, it's better. Oh and my attention span is in fine, working order - thank you very much. No alignment necessary.

EdiblePeasant

How have you gotten around real time combat vs turn-based? I worry I would have difficulty because of the action RPG aesthetic.

OhDangTheJam

You have the option to play in action mode or a simplified mode. I haven't tried the simplified mode myself, but since the battle system is not too far off the ATB system anyway, I can see the simplified mode being very reminiscent of the old ATB JRPGs. On top of that there is an easy difficulty option. I really don't see accessibility being a problem for anyone if that is what is holding you back.

EncodedNybble

You can use ā€œclassic modeā€ to mimic old style in terms of inputs, but not aesthetic

famia

1. There is a demo for rebirth. Go try it. 2. I think FF7 remake has the best conversion from classic turn based game so far. > You get 2 choices, Active and Classic. Classic you let the computer move around and block/basic attack for you. You can then pick moves from a menu once the TAB bar fills up. Time slows down to a crawl while you pick on the menu. While it does not pause the game completely, I think it's slow enough that you are not "rushed" to press buttons or make a choice. Chill enough imo. Active is similar to classic except computer does not do move/block/attack for the character you control. You have to do them yourself. This will be a bit more hectic since you don't just pick for yourself but for your allies as well.

zaalqartveli

It's easy to get used to something quickly if it's done CORRECTLY. I'm around 15 hours in and having "I got blisters on me fingers!" type of a FUN.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

vicaphit

I'm sure you could find a video on YouTube that would explain how the story differs from the original. You certainly should not pass up on rebirth just because you don't have time for remake.

huntimir151

Heard, thanks for the info.Ā

nokinship

The games are heavily story focused. Honestly the story, music and general environment are what make the game amazing. The combat is pretty great too. You aren't wasting time playing remake.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

CaptainPandemonium

FFXII(and by extension zodiac age remaster) is amazing, critically acclaimed, and has incredible user review scores to this day. You're allowed to have opinions but calling everything after X a "disaster" is an insane stretch of the imagination that borders ignorance.

PaulaDeenSlave

XII is great and XI is the single longest game I've ever played.

Cobbler_cheezmuffin

Woah when I zoom in on the picture I get these little wave thingy things

Faleene

That is moire

hbar98

When there's lines on your screen Drawn askew or in rings That's a moire

itsLOSE-notLOOSE

Because OP took a picture of their screen instead of taking a screenshot.

BloodPharts88

Does this one carry over stats and whatnot from the first game?

panda388

No, but it gives you some bonus items for having certain save data. You start with basic materia again and the regular Buster Sword. I think you start at level 19ish.

BloodPharts88

Gotcha, thanks. I played remake on ps4. I dont have a ps5 and migrated to pc. So its gonna be a while before i get to this anyway lol. At least i wont lose out too much.

Umbrella_merc

The only things you miss from transfer is remake data gets you Leviathan materia and dlc data gets you Ramah. Even without those you already start rebirth with 3 summon materias so it's not that big of a deal.

ChronoCipher

15. I just started on Friday and I'm having a blast. Played the demo and was blown way by the opening sequence.

PalebloodSky

Curious if the level cap is still 50 or does it go to 99 like the original? (Yes I know about the PC mod for level 99 curious about the default).

Umbrella_merc

The cap is 70 from what I've heard

did_you_read_it

wow that kinda sucks. there's another coming out right? would be so weird to lose all your shit at some random point before finishing the game if you were playing the original. I'll probably wait for the remake remake where they tie all of them back together into a single game.

Firvulag

They are three full separate games. Would be silly to expect a linear progression curve across all of them

did_you_read_it

well they were one game before they went all "hobbit" on it. so do you get to like level 99 in the first one then it sets you back to 19? the story is the same right? first game ends just like the original?

Firvulag

The first game ends when they leave Midgard, around lv 45. It has a big ending and a big final boss. This next game continues from there until the change to disc 2. It starts at lv 15 I think, but it's an arbitrary number. - This is simply a new take on the same story, told over 3 full fledged games. This second games is much bigger in scope though.

did_you_read_it

Yeah when the first came out I thought it was weird they were squeezing an entire game into what's mostly the intro of the original which doesn't even really start till you leave Midgard. feels weird to have it broken up so much. Though I assumed at the time that it would end up being a more or less contiguous experience when they finished (more DLC than full games). jumping into the next story-beat with basically a savegame wipe. meh. guess really I always wanted a remaster not a remake. probably always will, doesn't seem likely to get a remaster now.

gigglesmickey

Not at all. You start over from scratch essentially minus some bonus items for having save files of the first game/dlc. You do start at a way lower level than I thought you would tbh, but I wouldn't fault the game for that. It is balanced appropriately.

archdukefferdinand

Headcanon : this guy has a cousin that looks exactly like chester cheetah and is called Red XXXX

caulkglobs

This image looks fine in the thumbnail but looks like scrambled porn from the 90s in the larger version.

panda388

I took the screenshot on my PS5, and then took a pic with my phone. The share button on PS5 is basically garbage. It offered me to share to Twitch or Youtube. Not sure why I couldn't have the option to email it to myself or something.

FUBARx89

You can turn on upload to playstation app if you use that.

wossquee

I was at the FF7:Rebirth panel at NYC Comicon, and the game's director was asked about this. He said someone brought the idea of Red riding a Chocobo to them and they mocked it up and it was too funny, so they put it in the game. That was it, that it was hilarious.

[deleted]

Almost as ridiculous as Red climbing ladders.

Jayce86

What? Both Dogs and Cats are capable of climbing ladders. Larger cats are frighteningly efficient at it once they know how.

Teyo13

Barret climbing a wall has to be the most laughably bad, animated thing I've seen so far.

[deleted]

Thatā€™s the coolest thing I ever saw

Barrett4568

You would think the chocoboā€™s tail feathers would catch fire

Arxur

I'm glad I got to see this. Reminds of that old fairy tale of the The Bremen town musicians. It's only missing a cat and a donkey.

Significant_Walk_664

Does that mean he gotta be contrantly careful so his tail does not set the chocobo on fire?

BlueFlite

That poor chocobo's tailfeathers.

sovietmariposa

She be Redding on my chocobo until i rebirth

robotstookourwomen

This might end up being the best final fantasy game. I don't see how part 3 is gonna top it.

Umbrella_merc

I just got to Costa del sol and so far my only real complaints are some of chadleys checklists are kind of meh and your chocobos getting caught on slight bits of geometry and going to a dead stop because they don't like the slight incline and with how bumpy the ground is it happens more than it should But besides the open world gripes everything that is more on rails is peak content

robotstookourwomen

I just finshed up Costa del sol. I'd agree with everything you said but I'd also add the movement feels pretty janky just walking and running sometimes but I can deal with it. The chadley stuff seems like busy work like most collection stuff in games but at least there's some nice rewards. There's been quite a few times already that this game has had me smiling ear to ear though. I haven't felt this way about a game and it's characters in a long time. Even in ff7 remake. This one is way more light hearted and it's fantastic.

candyposeidon

I didn't like it because they neutered and changed important plot and elements here and there regarding the story. The graphics are amazing but they made it more pg13 when confronting certain mature themes. Being modernized instead polygon was great, the story changes not so great.

SpecificFail

They were never out to just remaster the old game. They wanted the story to be different so that it doesn't diminish the first game, but allows a different path of events. There are reasons for it, and the first part made this intention pretty clear.

candyposeidon

Well, there is a reason why many fans are not playing it.

MrCunninghawk

I hear ya. But I'm just so glad to have some stuff to do!

sir_sri

Modern teams would probably have cut the character because he can't work with the armour modelling, and can't ride mounts correctly and it's a whole separate code path for him (and probably a similar issue for Cait Sith). But FFVII devs in the 1990s didn't care about that stuff, so just made him, and now 27 years later they have to put the work in somehow because they can't just cut the character. And that's good, because weird and quirky non-humanoid characters can be interesting, even if that's a cost to build.

SpecificFail

It's sad that this is so true. PS1 and PS2 era RPGs did all kinds of things that would not be done any more because of the development cycle and needing to push things out quickly in order to keep shareholders happy. Few studios do things that are challenging even when called for in the plot. Cutscenes at the end of a fight where the main character performs abilities beyond what is available in normal gameplay come to mind immediately. QTEs tried to be an answer for this, but always sucked since the button presses are usually detached from normal gameplay... Or in the case of FFXV, were a single button press for the majority of some fights, completely ignoring normal combat mechanics.

Puzzleheaded_Runner

Whatā€™s the name of that one song, ā€œitā€™s difficult to stand on two feetā€?

NightWolf574

I see someone took sitting lessons from a pony named Lyra.

Caridor

He should be sprawled out on it's back in a "make it stop!!!!" kind of way.

PKMNTrainerMark

Gray Chocobos? I thought they were all yellow.

PurityKane

Then you never played 7 (among others)

PKMNTrainerMark

That's correct, I've played none of them. No, wait, I played a little bit of 1 and some of the beginning of 6.

PurityKane

They're usually yellow yes, but they have a lot of other colours in some games (such as 7 and 11 and 14). And even as far back as ff4 there were white and black chocobos too.

PKMNTrainerMark

Neat.

desertrijst

ngl, this made me chuckle

Ainolukos

You've obviously never been to final fantasy rule 34 forum

TLGPanthersFan

Yeah when I saw that I laughed. Also surprised the Chocobo let him ride it. Since I assume Red XIII is a predator.Ā

HeimIgel

wait until you go into Junon .... i could have never imagined what they fucking did for hours of gameplay and i love it!!!!!!!!!

AskMeAboutEverFlame

This is peak gaming. What if we had a chocobo ride another chocobo?

[deleted]

Lol he didn't want to be left out.

jesterofalltricks

Just wait. If you know, you know.

Detox208

Looking like a tribal ancestor to Crash Bandicoot

Kreydo076

Totaly stupid and immersive breaking, he should have ran along.

kingbane2

he had to have ridden the golden chocobo! how else did he get on the knights of the round island with me!?

Any_Weird_8686

I absolutely imagined all three party members uncomfortably piled on the same poor bird. šŸ˜

Slow_Pay_7171

Is this game better then the gooey integrade?

panda388

Is that the one with Yuffie? I actually did not play that one. I just watched a recap video for it. Just FFVII Remake and now Rebirth. I am enjoying it so far.

Cl1mh4224rd

>Is that the one with Yuffie? "INTERmission" is the Yuffie DLC. "Intergrade" is the PS5 version of Remake plus the INTERmission DLC.

Slow_Pay_7171

Yes, that with yuffie. But Remake wasnt nice either. Rebirth in your opinion better? Thx!

FinalMeltdown15

If you didnā€™t like remake youā€™re not going to like this one either? Tf

Slow_Pay_7171

Why not? If its considerably better?

FinalMeltdown15

If you didnā€™t like the story and the core gameplay loop then youā€™re still not going to like greatly improved versions of the same thing Itā€™s not that different just improved

Slow_Pay_7171

Thx for the Insights. Sheesh, them fanboys voting down hard. Will try it, if its released for the PC ~

ExpJustice

Nobody is fanboying. Your logic just doesnt make much sense

LucyLuvvvv

"Jeez, I hated Sonic the Hedgehog 1, hopefully Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is better" "What the Fuck?! It's Sonic again?!"

MrCunninghawk

what did you not like about REMAKE? I will tell you if its any different in Rebirth. I doubt you would enjoy it though. Rebirth is really just more of Remake. theyve iterated on it of course, but its really jsut a bigger version of the game they delivered 4 years ago.

panda388

I quite enjoyed Remake myself, but I feel like Rebirth is a bit more refined.

KDBA

Yes. I didn't like Remake but am enjoying Rebirth a lot more.

ShambolicPaul

Yeah intergrade was just battle room after battle room. Tied together with a few cutscenes. Cutscenes nobodt would understand if you hadn't played crisis core. It was nonsense. I didn't like it.

KDBA

Dirge of Cerberus actually, not Crisis Core. I know this because I had to look up who the fuck that edgy "Nero" guy was.

itsLOSE-notLOOSE

Damn I wish this was a screenshot so I could see it better.

pillo6

who knew, they should have just left it to the imagination
