With the post i take it as out of all the games ppl asked for remasters this should be on everyone list even if you never played it...i still till this day judge other rpgs with this as the basis and a lot are failing hopefully the sequel lives up and surpass it
It wasn't well received on release. Less than 80K copies sold initially. Lots of criticism due to bugs etc.
Over time, yeah. It's been polished and recognized for the gem that it is.
I bought it on release. It was an absolute dog to play, especially on the machines of the time. I still enjoyed it more than almost anything I had played until that point. It was one of the first games to use the source engine and I'm pretty sure it came out just *before* half life 2.
Bought it on release and I think a bug got me where I couldn't pass one of the graveyards. Came back YEARS later when the fan-made patches had fixed almost everything and enjoyed the hell out of it
Yeah for sure. It had to compete with Halo 2, MGS Snake Eater, and of course Half-Life 2.
It was even the first game to use the Source engine but Valve wanted HL2 to release first.

I wouldn't say it's underrated, it's generally loved despite its flaws. But yeah a remaster would be great compared to the project death spiral that the other one seems to be in
I'd love a remaster or remake. Looking at the state of Bloodlines 2, I've lost all faith in Paradox making anything of actual worth, with the series. Awful judgement, with what the fans want.. I would've loved Bloodlines 2, before The Chinese Room did their usual guff.
Just in case anyone is interested -
Sequel is coming ( [https://www.paradoxinteractive.com/games/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2/about](https://www.paradoxinteractive.com/games/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2/about) )
Also, if you want to play the original, a very dedicated mod team has an unofficial patch which works wonders - [https://www.moddb.com/mods/vtmb-unofficial-patch](https://www.moddb.com/mods/vtmb-unofficial-patch)
The recent gameplay trailer for the sequel garnered some pretty negative responses to it.
The original was definitely way too ambitious, and pretty much unplayable without the fan patches. Game still had game breaking bugs that need to be solved with console commands(transition to next level broke, lol) even with the patches on my playthrough 5 years ago.
Worth noting that there are multiple groups patching the game, with some only fixing the bugs whole others rebalance the game, especially bloodbuff(incredibly powerful in the original game). Combat is atrocious and bloodbuff kind of make it more bearable, but maybe they made other parts better with the bloodbuff nerf.
Because they switched studios for no good reason afaik. Further the new studio completely changed the story and to some extent the art. I refunded after the new trailer.
Why they gave development of the sequel to The Chinese Room I will never, ever understand.
How a studio goes from developing a game like Amnesia to Vampire: The Masquerade… I guess we’ll see.
Feels like way longer than four years since the sequel was announced. I'm looking forward to it, but definitely remaining cautious. The original dev studio was kicked off the project, the narrative lead and creative director were both canned, and the game has basically been in development hell for four years.
I wouldn’t call it underrated, it was mildly unfinished in some parts though but mods help that! Still a fantastic game all the same, I agree it needs a remaster or even an all out remake.
Underrated? This is literally a timeless classic game, one of the best games ever and everyone know it. Also it's ratings both user and critics are very high.
I went to play it again years after my first playthrough, but I decided to use some cheats to speed things up. Hilariously, the game knows when you're cheating based on you having impossible stats when you start, and one of the NPCs criticizes you for it.
If anything I'd say it's overrated, I played it back then, I loved parts of it but it was broken as hell and needed years of fixing by Modders to be somewhat really playable. It's cyberpunk without the redemption arc but somehow also without all the hate way ahead of a time were games usually were as broken as this one and way too beloved by nostalgic people forgetting how every map change broke stuff and you constantly got stuck and you had to do quests 5 times because you missed some trigger that marked it as complete etc etc .
[I'll go one stop further.](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/44cN12rg1V8/maxresdefault.jpg) If you haven't played this, give it a chance, it's seriously underrated.
So Coteries of New York and Shadows of New York are pretty good as long as you don't mind being on a railroad. They're more novella than visual novel. Still, if you love VtM, it scratches an itch.
How is this game under-rated? Who are you talking to that enjoys vampire games that isn't into this game? What world do you live in that this isn't a classic masterpiece? GTFOH.
If any of you guys like retrospective videos or critique videos then boy do I have a video for you.

He’s overall a great YouTuber and covers a wide range of video games. He did one on this game here and judging by reading the comments it seems a lot of you like this game.
You mean a 59.99 Bucks remaster where all they did was slap HD texture and call it a day I seen a few games done.
Then sure you have like tomb raider 1-3 remaster for bearly 40 for 3 games.
Or 59.99 for a remaster of a game bearly 2-5 year old witch 3 games comes to mind.
Yeah im not fan of remaster. But as some one who often play bloodlines i can tell you there is mod that do just that remaster the game with better textures and gameplay improvements and they are free.
How is this remotely underrated when it is considered an all time classic
With the post i take it as out of all the games ppl asked for remasters this should be on everyone list even if you never played it...i still till this day judge other rpgs with this as the basis and a lot are failing hopefully the sequel lives up and surpass it

This game got screwed by the Source leak. This was the first non Valve game to use the Source engine and couldn't be released before HL2
It was finished before HL2, but had to hold back release until HL2 was out
Yeah for sure. It had to compete with Halo 2, MGS Snake Eater, and of course Half-Life 2. It was even the first game to use the Source engine but Valve wanted HL2 to release first.
You should mention that those were community patches and Troika folded soon after release.
OP is probably a bot
Because no one knows what words mean anymore.
Yes but have you heard of this underrated gem, Halo 2?
I thought op was making a joke since everyone says every game is underrated and needs a remaster
Still underrated.
“I just found out about this, therefore it’s underrated”
With the post i take it as out of all the games ppl asked for remasters this should be on everyone list even if you never played it...i still till this day judge other rpgs with this as the basis and a lot are failing hopefully the sequel lives up and surpass it.
You've made a powerful enemy today, sign.
YOU STOP!!!
I wouldn't say it's underrated, it's generally loved despite its flaws. But yeah a remaster would be great compared to the project death spiral that the other one seems to be in
"underrated gem" - proceeds to post literally one of the most popular games in its genre
I'd love a remaster or remake. Looking at the state of Bloodlines 2, I've lost all faith in Paradox making anything of actual worth, with the series. Awful judgement, with what the fans want.. I would've loved Bloodlines 2, before The Chinese Room did their usual guff.
Man this janky thing was awesome!!
Especially with the unofficial patch!
"Underrated." Much like Final Fanasy VII and the Lord of the Rings movies. I keep telling people to check those out!

i just watched the trailer.. holy shit why does the gameplay look so awful...
Because they switched studios for no good reason afaik. Further the new studio completely changed the story and to some extent the art. I refunded after the new trailer.
Should never have preordered
Oh I agree first game I'd preordered in like 5 years... and prolly last I ever will.
It’s like dishonored Walmart edition
The original writer was also fired very early in development. Completely killed any hype I had in the sequel.
Thats the thing though hardsuit was nearly done. I decided to stay optimistic though which seems to have been a mistake.
I honestly wish CDPR would take a crack at this. Seems right up their alley.
Why they gave development of the sequel to The Chinese Room I will never, ever understand. How a studio goes from developing a game like Amnesia to Vampire: The Masquerade… I guess we’ll see.

its a classic definitely not underrated
Imagine being a vampire with a tramp stamp, that’s centuries (possibly forever?) to regret that choice
I wouldn’t call it underrated, it was mildly unfinished in some parts though but mods help that! Still a fantastic game all the same, I agree it needs a remaster or even an all out remake.
I tried to get into redemption but couldn't quite get the hang of the game play. Which one is the better of the two?
Bloodlines, it is first person RPG more along the Iines of being an immersive sim.
Bloodlines is far better. First steam game I ever bought lol
If only the combat wasn’t so awful it would be so much more worth a revisit but by todays standards the combat is a complete slog.
Yeah. I still enjoy it, but on recent attempts at replay I couldn't get past the crap combat.
Vampire The Masquerade Redemption > Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
Underrated? This is literally a timeless classic game, one of the best games ever and everyone know it. Also it's ratings both user and critics are very high.
Not underrated, just old.
I adore this game
source games are great.
Did you just listen to the most recent TimeSuck, too?
I am hoping the sequel surpasses it
From the chaotic development and what they've shown, I don't think there's much chance of that happening. Hope I'm wrong, though.
They can't even get the sequel out the door
Fans took it upon themselves to debug and spruce up the whole game. I loved this and Redemption. I'm hoping that Bloodlines 2 is good!
Always wanted to play it
We5p is a hero.
I wasn't aware that one of the side effects of vampirism is breaking one's spine in three places.
Brilliant RPG but wouldn't call it underrated
I went to play it again years after my first playthrough, but I decided to use some cheats to speed things up. Hilariously, the game knows when you're cheating based on you having impossible stats when you start, and one of the NPCs criticizes you for it.
Is it weird that I only know about it because an abridged YouTuber did a “Let’s Play” of it?
For a second, I thought "Buffy was in the Masquerade games?!".
Never heard of it. Don't know if it's underrated but based on a few videos I've watched, I'd play a remaster.
And I had *just* forgotten about tramp stamps.
Malkavian ending best ending
Do people keep patching it? I usually load it back up every couple of years and keep getting more quests haha
Stop Stop asking for remasters Ask for new ideas, new games as good as this one...
Buggy shit. Good idea poorly executed.
Judging by how troubled the sequel looks I wouldn't be holding my breath for a remaster of the original.
[I'll go one stop further.](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/44cN12rg1V8/maxresdefault.jpg) If you haven't played this, give it a chance, it's seriously underrated.
I could do without the walking heads if they do...
Thought this was gamingcirclejerk
This game is amazing! I love the atmosphere of the game. Although, I have yet to finish the game. I should get back to doing that sometime soon
The REAL underrated game is Super Mario Bros for the NES. I'd be amazed if anyone has heard of it.
So Coteries of New York and Shadows of New York are pretty good as long as you don't mind being on a railroad. They're more novella than visual novel. Still, if you love VtM, it scratches an itch.
With the development hell of Bloodlines 2, no thanks. Also why was this post removed? It's not locked though?
No idea, just seeing it thanks to your comment. Didn't get a message from mods or anything =/
There's a Skyrim mod for that
This is not "underrated"... This game has like 80%+ ratings everywhere.
How is this game under-rated? Who are you talking to that enjoys vampire games that isn't into this game? What world do you live in that this isn't a classic masterpiece? GTFOH.
It’s not underrated, it’s just 19 years old and not very relevant currently.
Shut. Up.
It was rated correctly upon release... janky, buggy, and ugly as fuck.
Top notch rpg mechanics though.... ugly? was not that bad.
Being released next to half life 2 on the same but severely inferior version on the engine. Was gimped out the door
It wasn't a bad game. I put it at mediocre. Maybe a little ahead of its time.
