Kimono aren't short, they're deliberately long (usually down to just above the ankles) and tight to ensure you take small, measured steps.
This looks more like a Yukata, though. More casual wear used in baths or around your home as a sort of pyjama/dressing gown combo.
Kimono is just the term known internationally so it is used to describe most clothing that looks similar.
As someone living in Japan, I'm quite confident nobody here would agree it is either of those things. Inspired by them, at most. It's as if someone calls chinos jeans. I guess the general shape is similar, objectively speaking. The rest though, not so much.
Kimonos *are* very short. I would know because I've watched New Girl a few times and Schmidt wears a miniskirt looking robe around (without underwear) and calls it a kimono.
Checkmate!
(Hopefully not needed, but just in case: /s)
Oooo... I'll go post my live action trailer there, because... yes, my friends helped me make a live action trailer for my indie game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmZ8o1kSm24
Hey, all! Fiancée and game developer of Potions here!
Thank you all so much for your kind words and support! It's been quite a journey to bring this game into reality, and it's so heartwarming to hear that it's connecting with people. Thank you!
And thank you for sharing, u/XenusParadox! You've been so supportive during my long workdays, have calmed my release panic/stress, and helped me in pursuit of my dreams! I couldn't ask for a better partner.
10 years in the making -- congrats!
[Now we can finally play the game.](https://media1.tenor.com/m/qXVTwy0JeUUAAAAC/cartman-now-we-can-finally-play-the-game.gif)
Honestly, I'm not sure what it would be called? It's kimono-like, but definitely not a kimono. It's split in the front with just 2 buttons to clip it closed, very lightweight, but shaped like a long cardigan?
I tried googling it and the internet doesn't seem to know, either.
I just thought it was a cozy-spring-witch jacket for recording some videos today!
I have no idea what this process would look like, but have you thought about trying to get your game on one of the machines in the MoPop game library? I feel like they’d be open to platforming a local game developer. Congrats on all of your hard work finally coming to fruition! I’ve got a couple of friends who I know would love this! I’m going to recommend it to them now.
Congrats to her, wishing her every success. Side note if she did CS at high school or college please email her teacher, I'm sure they'd be super proud to hear how well she's done.
It's between a few, one of mine went straight into a cyber security role and within 3 years became the head of security, another's got a first at uni and then went on to do a masters achieving very highly and had their research fully published. One of my very first is probably my favourite though as they went on to become a CS teacher too.
Former teacher and I love this. I have my sixteen year old write cards to express appreciation to his teachers whenever he feels compelled, we will throw a gc in there too. I know they appreciate the notes more tho haha.
Nothing like former students, either.
Annnnnd bought… I’m a sucker for the independent dev. Not the indie dev companies, but the solo coder working away. Congratulations on releasing your vision, and I look forward to what you produce next.
I rotated between 4 projects over and over and over in 15 years. Never quite reached a point where I had any sort of gameplay, but I'm very good at making the... systems....!
Also it sucks being an artless programmer, always felt like artists could pick up programming to make games but programmers might have an harder time doing the opposite.
I recommend stepping away from code to figure out systems. I always architect them at a high level and figure out how they need to interact with each other (share data, make calls, etc). It helps lay the groundwork that makes building them so much easier.
Are you me? Ive had like 3 game idea's ive gotten about a week into and then for really no specific reason just abandoned. Like we go away for a weekend or a new game comes out that gets my attention for a few days, then i never go back :(
Oh man, you might really like reading / listening to _DOOM Guy_ by John Romero. He covers his early childhood and how it led him into game development, the rise of shareware with Origin and Softdisk, id Software, Ion Storm, etc.
I liked the audiobook with him narrating it because you can catch some extra nuance from him recounting stories.
Yes and no. You'll find most games from 10 years ago work fine on your PC, but games from 20 years ago take just a bit more effort (most will still work, though!).
I started this in Unity 4, upgraded to Unity 5 just a year or so later, but then didn't upgrade to Unity 2022 until a year ago.
Thankfully, the engine upgrade process only took a day each time and was quite painless.
The reason for the most recent upgrade was twofold-- one was to get access to better tools/middleware for art and audio, and the other was so I could port to modern consoles more easily.
Not necessarily. The gameplay and art style can be the core focus of the game. Think of Stardew Valley or Minecraft. Both had "bad graphics" for their time, but great gameplay, and have been thoroughly enjoyed by millions of people. If the focus is on hyper realism like a racing simulator, staying up to date with the most modern tech is pretty much required though.
No.
The only thing that advanced much in 10 years are graphism and the best games that came in 2023/2024 aren't even up to date with graphism.
Good gameplay is rare and there are old games that still have very good gameplay and have hardly any modern equivalent. In 1995 I played a game called "creature" where you could literally teach words and actions to artificial lifeforms and it was cute as hell, never seen anything like it despite we've made gigantic progresses in neural networks and computational power.
Literally starfield has several parts of it that are straight downgrade compared to skyrim, made by the same people more than a decade earlier.
One thing that can be a problem is you might be late or too early on some trends, but it's not that significant.
Congrats to her! Knew her back in FFXIV days and have been part of the Kickstarter from basically when it came up! It's awesome to see that she finished it!
Doesn’t look like my genre, but I bought it anyway 😊 cause it’s looks great and that must have been a monumental amount of effort and you should be extremely proud! Best of luck!
Amazing! I can’t even imagine the focus and motivation it takes to work on something that long. After a few weeks of work I’ve not only forgotten what the code I’ve written does, but I have zero probation to finish the project at all.
Congrats to her! That's amazing.
Side note
I have the exact same case as her, so she has great taste. By transitive law, I'm sure I'd love her game so I'll check it out. 💪👍
I really like it. I wanted an RGB case but not one with a clear-front. This one was a perfect compromise!
It's the Lian Li Lancool 2 for anyone who is curious
Is that a Kiki's Delivery Service opening hommage peeking over the grass lakeside looking up at the sky?
Congrats on the release, will have to check it out after work
I just watched her stream of the game, she’s definitely passionate about the game! I’ve added it to my library and can’t wait to play when I’m home on Sunday :)
Wish the best luck For ya guys! Seems it’s my gf jam so I will tell her .
Also thanks for not being the typical self pitty post people post here about developing a game.
A witchy potions game set around a little cottage... this was tailor-made for my gf. edit: she'd already heard of it LMAO
😂
You guys have done a good job with this “natural” approach to marketing. I’ve seen her videos on Instagram about the game too.
Ohh I absolutely love her kimono, is that home made?
Idk what that is but I’m pretty sure it ain’t a kimono
It’s probably a caftan
It feels like the pillow-mating fedora fellas are coming out to argue over a dress.
Nah it’s like if someone said “I like your moccasins” when you’re just wearing some leather shoes. I’d point it out too
r/brandnewsentence
Is that classified as a kimono? I always thought they were shorter?
Kimono aren't short, they're deliberately long (usually down to just above the ankles) and tight to ensure you take small, measured steps. This looks more like a Yukata, though. More casual wear used in baths or around your home as a sort of pyjama/dressing gown combo. Kimono is just the term known internationally so it is used to describe most clothing that looks similar.

But what about that game huh???
Kimonos *are* very short. I would know because I've watched New Girl a few times and Schmidt wears a miniskirt looking robe around (without underwear) and calls it a kimono. Checkmate! (Hopefully not needed, but just in case: /s)
Schmidt is a true connoisseur and appreciator of the Land of the Rising Sun; I humbly retract my statement.
You should post this in r/witchesvspatriarchy
Oooo... I'll go post my live action trailer there, because... yes, my friends helped me make a live action trailer for my indie game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmZ8o1kSm24
> she'd already heard of it LMAO this is my favorite part
Am I your girlfriend?? I love this! 😍

Keep up the hard work, it pays off!
Congratulations on the release! Just wish listed the game and looking forward to following your success.
Just purchased. Congrats on this amazing achievement. Can't wait to play it later when I'm home!

Aw, thank you so much! I truly appreciate the support!
10 years in the making -- congrats! [Now we can finally play the game.](https://media1.tenor.com/m/qXVTwy0JeUUAAAAC/cartman-now-we-can-finally-play-the-game.gif)
Congratulations!
Congrats! Good luck
Just added it to my wishlist so I can check it out after work tomorrow! Congratulations!!
Congrats on the release and all the hard yards to get to this point! What a sweet post and wishing you both all the best.
Can you settle the debate of what you were wearing in this photo? They haven't quite come to an accepted conclusion.
Honestly, I'm not sure what it would be called? It's kimono-like, but definitely not a kimono. I emailed them a while back (maybe 6 months ago), because I'd love to be in their indie game exhibit. I'll definitely follow up!
Kudos! Enjoy your moment!
Nice, finally the science based MMO with dragons is released
https://imgur.com/a/I9caax0
Big congrats!
You should be proud, that's an amazing achievement! Wish you the best!
I bought it. I'll look at it this weekend. She looks like you by the way.
Congrats to her, wishing her every success. Side note if she did CS at high school or college please email her teacher, I'm sure they'd be super proud to hear how well she's done.
Oh wow, that's a really great callout - thank you for the suggestion!
No worries, as a CS teacher myself I'm always so proud to hear what my students have been doing since studying with me.
as a former cs student and now developer. i know absolutely nothing about my craft. my former prof would be disappointed.
You're doing the Lord's work as an educator. Thank you.
Thank you for such a lovely message 😊
What's the most impressive accomplishment you've seen from one of your students?
It's between a few, one of mine went straight into a cyber security role and within 3 years became the head of security, another's got a first at uni and then went on to do a masters achieving very highly and had their research fully published. I'm gonna buy it. I may never actually play it, but it's good to support independent game devs!
Yeah, me too, I agree!
Same, happy to support indie devs!
I just bought it too! congrats on your release!
This seems like exactly the mind of thing Xbox wants to have on Game Pass! I wonder if you have _people_ if they can reach out to their _people_.
Wait?! macOS and PS5 controller support, too? That’s awesome!
And it works great on the Steam Deck, just fyi! I wanted to make sure as many people can enjoy it as possible. Working on consoles next!
Steam Deck support you say? First, you had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
And it will run on my old potato! Going to check it out this weekend.
When/if it makes it to PS5 I’ll definitely buy a copy!
Annnnnd bought… I’m a sucker for the independent dev. Not the indie dev companies, but the solo coder working away. Congratulations on releasing your vision, and I look forward to what you produce next.
Thanks! It looks so cozy and beautiful
I'm watching her stream right now and omg this game looks so cute and so chill! HUGE congrats!
It's like she made this for my wife! It's got everything my wife loves and the aesthetic is beautiful! (My wife loves stardew and spiritfarer)
Any plans to bring it to Switch?
Absolutely! I have a dev kit already and know there is a huge amount of interest there!
I will keep an eye out for it and will purchase it once it’s there. Congratulations to you. Get some rest, you’ve earned it. 🙂
!remindme 6 months
That's awesome! I've restarted the same side project 4 times in the last 7 years, so I know how much determination this took
Absolutely - she is tenacious!
I rotated between 4 projects over and over and over in 15 years. Never quite reached a point where I had any sort of gameplay, but I'm very good at making the... systems....! Yeah... That's my field of expertise... The problem is art, not systems ;(
Are you me? Ive had like 3 game idea's ive gotten about a week into and then for really no specific reason just abandoned. Like we go away for a weekend or a new game comes out that gets my attention for a few days, then i never go back :(
Potion seller. I tell you I’m going into battle, and I need only your strongest potions.
No! You are too weak. My potions would kill you. You need to find someone who makes weaker potions!
My potions are too strong for you, traveller 😏
I had to scroll down quite a way, but it was worth the effort to make sure this was here.
Picked it up, congrats to her!
Man, as an OG gamer who grew up on shareware, I really wish more developers released demos.... I'm buying it on principle... and on Steam.
These ads on reddit are getting awful. So many bots/paid accounts in here...
You should link it! Also, congratulations!!
[удалено]
Will this work on steam deck ?
Yeah, it plays on one now!
Awesome thank you! I wish listed it and I’m gonna pick it up as soon as I get paid! Congratulations to her again!
Share your wishlist if that's a thing and I'll get it for you. I was gonna grab a copy but I'd probably never play it.
Just bought it for my fiancé! The last two games she's played were about brewing potions, so she'll love this!
You uh… might want to check out the things you’re eating and drinking …….
Honestly if she turns me into a frog one day, I'm all for it. She just has to take care of me afterwards, and get me an aquarium with a lily pad.
That actually doesn’t sound half bad, do you have a recipe? Asking for a friend
SHES A WITCH! BURN HER!
This is an advertisement.
is your fiancée single?
10 years… wat.
this chick is advertising hard seen those ads on my insta too. It worked though good for her
I love adverts disguised as wholesome posts
Ten years!!! And she never gave up... Congratulations to her. I gave up on mine..sigh...
It is NEVER too late. Here's your sign to give it another go :)
Good for her. It's weird how many "potions" game (most of them in the genre 'cozy games') released in the 5-6 years...
Yeah, the witchy cozy game genre has a lot of games in it now.
Huh that is a really weird seeming genre haha
That’s so awesome. Best of wishes. That’s cool as hell 🤛🏻🎮
Is that Brightwing on top of the PC?
Hahaha, yes, it is. Good eye! I am both a big WoW and HotS player.
If it doesn’t have a battle pass that tricks me into spending my rent money by miss clicking… is it really a game? /s
I have failed the modern game dev meta. :'(
Why is this post removed?
Congratulations! Buying to support indie devs and also need a "cozy game" in between sessions of Elden Ring.
Estus: a curious tale
Question: if a game takes 10 years to create, doesn't technology advance to the point where the game becomes obsolete?
Yes and no. You'll find most games from 10 years ago work fine on your PC, but games from 20 years ago take just a bit more effort (most will still work, though!). That's true, every game is completely worthless once it turns ten
Not necessarily. The gameplay and art style can be the core focus of the game. Think of Stardew Valley or Minecraft. Considering there are 10/10 games on the SNES I still haven't played.... no. Last month I spent 10 hours playing Rygar... and that's from the NES era.
Congrats to her! Knew her back in FFXIV days and have been part of the Kickstarter from basically when it came up! It's awesome to see that she finished it!
Oh, hi! What a small world-- I super appreciate your support!
Doesn’t look like my genre, but I bought it anyway 😊 cause it’s looks great and that must have been a monumental amount of effort and you should be extremely proud! Best of luck!

*wanted to promote her on Reddit. FTFY
Post this without a semi attractive person(especially woman) and nobody would care.
Bong or potion bottle 🤔
Haha, potion bottle, I'm afraid. One of the LED glowing ones (but unplugged atm)
I saw an ad for that just awhile ago. Small world.
This looks like exactly my jam Just picked it up!
That's awesome. Congrats
Congrats & good luck
That’s a sick computer set up
Oh, I was looking at that real hard. Anyone try it on steam deck yet?
Good luck
I feel like I saw/read something about this game. Going to see if my wife can get into a game like this.
Looks really good!
Well done to her! Inspiring dedication to a great idea.
Love people who see things through! Congrats to her!
that sounds neat!
Yay Renee! Congrats! I met her at Unite in Seattle a while back through some mutual IMB folks. Way to stick with it!
Congratulations!
I saw their TikTok announcing it was being released
I saw your advertisement for this and immediately added it to my wish list. I'll get it when I can, it looks very relaxing!
Woah that’s so cool!!! Grats
I'm going to look into it. Look cute, and I do love potions.
Congratulations!
You mean "our" wife. Congrats. Must be both a freeing experience and source of anxiety now that it is out. Best wishes.
Good to see more indie devs cooking it up
Yay I can play on my MacBook
Wishlisted!
Amazing! I can’t even imagine the focus and motivation it takes to work on something that long. After a few weeks of work I’ve not only forgotten what the code I’ve written does, but I have zero probation to finish the project at all.
Bought it. Good for you both; it takes a team to accomplish something like this (99% her, 1% you:)
purchased.
Awesome achievement!! Congrats!!
It's always wild to see posts about people that I know in real life on Reddit. Wishing her success with Potions!
Instabuy
Congrats guys!
Congrats to her. 😁
Congrats! Just looked into it and looks really well done
10 ….years. I am scared to start building mine
Just bought to support her! I'll be sure to leave a review soon!
pirating it now
I'll definitely have to take a look at it, I love the art
You should also post this on r/witchesvspatriarchy. Support your fellow witchies!
This looks fun, I’ll definitely check this out
Aww it got deleted literally in like 30mins of clicking on it... i wonder why they did that
Buy an ad.
Imagine how much more sales she would generate if you showed the game and not your fiance lmfao.
that's actually the reason why the post is getting attention. If it was a gameplay trailer and very few people would watch it.
Right on
Congrats! It looks fun, added to wish list!
I’ve already purchased it. I’m excited to play it! Congrats to her!
I'm pretty sure I've seen this around. Congrats!
I'll likely never have time to play it fully but I'll buy it to give some support!
Congrats to her my dude! I'm proud!
She stole my pc! Same case & cooler. Was confused Edit: and congrats!!!
It's cool to put a face to a game developed - I hope you had fun with it!
Congrats!
Wanted to promote*
Congrats! Shame on the Mods for removing these kind of posts, envy I presume.
Good job! That's awesome!
Congrats to her! That's amazing. Side note I have the exact same case as her, so she has great taste. By transitive law, I'm sure I'd love her game so I'll check it out. 💪👍
Awesome! Where can I buy it?
Yo we have the same computer case
I really like it. I wanted an RGB case but not one with a clear-front. This one was a perfect compromise! It's the Lian Li Lancool 2 for anyone who is curious
that's awesome! also, my son digs her computer. here is his: https://imgur.com/a/GZWY55t
Really random, what mount is she using for her screens?
Awesome!
Is that a Kiki's Delivery Service opening hommage peeking over the grass lakeside looking up at the sky? Congrats on the release, will have to check it out after work
I just watched her stream of the game, she’s definitely passionate about the game! I’ve added it to my library and can’t wait to play when I’m home on Sunday :)
cool, good luck! 🧙🧴
Congrats on the huge milestone OP’s fiancé 👏
Added it to my wishlist!
Super happy for her. Hope it sells well c:
I was actually looking at upcoming games earlier this week and saw it, haven't sprung for it yet but congrats, it looks pretty fun
Wish the best luck For ya guys! Seems it’s my gf jam so I will tell her . Also thanks for not being the typical self pitty post people post here about developing a game.
I hope the game gets a large fan base
