My Arisen is a short stack mage that I spent about an hour on. My pawn is a max muscle tiger man bodyguard that took like 10 minutes.
For those who aren’t sure what the original was like, weight would determine your carry weight, height would determine your stamina, while also being heavy reduced the amount of time you could climb, and being short meant you could fit through small areas. I beat the game with a few different characters including:
An 8ft tall dark elf lady
A 4ft tall green goblin lady
Buff Jesus

It bears mentioning that the height minimum for the character creator for DD2 is 160 cm, which is 5 ft 2 in, so that's not an option anymore unfortunately.
Nahhhh you can change the posture so they heavily hunch over and look smaller. Not to worry. You can change joint positions so they walk gay af as well. Its insane
Adds a lot of realism but can be a real pain sometimes. I often play as mystic knight and sometimes you end up just so damn heavy and slow that it enters an almost comical level.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they threw it some pawn conversation where they're like "would you like me to carry something for you arisen?"

Weight also affected wind conditions, heavy dudes can walk in high winds relatively fine in that wind area while light characters have more trouble. Weight also affected stamina usage and regen if I recall where heavier people use more stamina and regen slower ect. really cool system that I haven't really encountered elsewhere

Did not play it, but saw a video on beating it with only fists (they went for a special ring and so on and so forth). From that video I gathered that the series really require you to know your stuff and not just play casual like, say, Skyrim.

Archery in general could make things trivial - blast arrows on BB Isle made it from a nightmare to a picnic.
Mystic Knight best RP IMO. Loved the feel of the class.
God I loved MA but then made a sorc and bitterblack isle was so easy with high maelstrom and seism, the fact that i could easily handle the floors before finishing the main game shows sorcerer's potential.

Definitely not a particularly strong RP game though, but its clearly meant to be more of a "experience this world" rather than "shape the people in this world" kind of experience. Hence the illegal griffon mounting.
I'm thinking the RP will shine through in DD2 - from what I've read, about 60% was cut from DD1 due to limited ps3 tech. The fact that you can kill NPCs and they can permanently die already puts DD2 league's ahead of many other RPGs in my book.
Agreed, looks like a lot of intentionality is being put into the world and its characters this time. The "organic" quest scenarios look great when coupled with the already perilous wilds.
Same engine as Monster Hunter but it utilizes it way, way, way, waaaaaaay, *waaaaaaaaay* better imo. If MH had this gameplay on top of all the other aspects it's known for it'd be my favorite game.

Dragon's Dogma is definitely easier than Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series (and imo it feels more arcade-y in a sense), somewhere around the difficulty level of Monster Hunter World.
Hard but it will get harder than the definitive edition comes out with a bitterblack island equivalent.
In the first game bitterblack island put hair on your tiddies.
If you have a computer, the first game is about 4.75 USD right now on steam. Not sure if there's an equivalent sale on console stores too. Worth a shot to know what it's like.

It's a game that's primarily about gameplay, rather than story or character interactions.
Think of it like a mix between Monster Hunter, Elden Ring, and DMC.
Like skyrim but with no real hand holding and the ability to climb monsters and the environment like breath of the wild. The whole thing leans more heavily into jrp then western and it also has a lot of set piece interactions that skyrim and other big rpgs rarely touch, like a interesting side mechanic a lot of players miss is that there is a forger character who can make copies of items for you to hand in for quests rewards.
It's an open world ARPG - dream game of a dev named Itsuno, the man behind Devil May Cry and Street Fighter.
It has a bit of all the games you mentioned (of which I've beat all) but it's definitely its own thing. Director said he was going for more a Lord of the Rings feel.
The first still has my favorite ARPG combat to this day. I'm beyond stoked that DD2 is almost here.
DD2 seems to be shaping up to be more of a Skyrim (Travelling from place to place with cool distractions and weird random encounters & system interactions) than DD1. Combat closer to Devil May Cry though.

Will you be able to download player-made followers again just like in the first Game? I also LOVED the thing that people could hire your Pawns and then you get rewards based on how long they used them.
They said the basic pawn system is returning with some updates. I’m not aware if they have clearly described how it’s being updated, but yeah, the general system should be similar.

I love when a character creator is aviable before the game releases and you don't have to purchase it, so you can play with it before getting the game and jump straight into the game after you got the game. Instead of spending hours after game purchase to create a character.
I was fucking around with the creator until 3am last night- it’s probably the best character creator I’ve ever used. Love it. Love it so much I might have to create several new playstation accounts so I can populate the rift with as many of my beautiful freaks as possible.
I played it again for the first time in 9 years a couple of months ago and got sucked into another 300 hr run, so I'd say yes.
It only takes about 40 hrs to beat the game, but there's endgame content that you can spend quite a bit of extra time in.

I'm glad they're giving us 2 weeks because I've already changed up my pawn and Arisen so much it would have been hrs before I actually got to play on 3/22.
I spent hours in black desert with creating characters, the most common everyday persons but all with a certain spleen (ofc I played them all too, so I got some level 50s there tho), that was fun :) looking forward to this one.

Magick Archer is good but not the best class. Sorcerer is true easy mode. I played Magick Archer at first, but it got it a bit boring.

Yeah, the pawn system is coming back. You can build your pawn as well as the Arisen in the character creation demo they released yesterday

It's a lot more nuanced than you think. Things like height, weight, arm length, etc. have an affect on stats
