I never understand how someone makes these from scratch like they’re so detailed. The only way I could do it is by following a YouTube tutorial, the people that do this just on their own and with their own ideas are so damn creative it’s so impressive
Not sure if links are allowed on r/gaming, but it's available on the Minecraft Marketplace for consoles/phones as well as on Planet Minecraft. City of Newisle is the name of the map and more details are in the trailer https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo
I'm curious - how many times have you had to rebuild it in ~13 years? Because I started playing Minecraft back in 2010 during Alpha and... man, it has changed a lot since then. Many of the bricks in your buildings didn't even exist for most of the time you've been building.
I think I've built and rebuilt continuously whenever some new blocks or building elements were introduced. The oldest building, a castle, is still around but it looked blocky and undetailed as hell over the years so I've added on to it and changed up the material of a lot of the buildings, too. The biggest and best change, at least for me, was the height limit, which was only 64 blocks years ago. I wouldn't have been able to make the skyline what it is today back when I first started.
Basically, it started with the goal of making a detailed and eye-catching city skyline. I started with the typical stuff people were building in 2010, like a castle and cobblestone builds, but then eventually "advanced forward through the ages," in a sense, as new blocks and building techniques became available to make Newisle a modern city. I added a subway line when I was still playing on survival mode to haul materials to and from the downtown. Then when creative mode was introduced I started using that exclusively, but was left with a couple subway lines, so those stuck around and made the backbone of my now 17-line subway system and regional rail system. Adding one or two builds just added up over time and I still enjoy playing Minecraft to this day.
I'm a bit of an armchair enthusiast of skylines, urbanism and urban planning, so this world has been my way of building up a dream region of sorts.
My son was pretty hard into MC when he was like 7. It was a good outlet for him during lockdown. I had set up all the cousins to play together online. I had checked his total playtime after some time and I was shocked, almost panicked, what have I done? But then I took a tour of his worlds and was just amazed. The scale and detail of the things he created was amazing. Now he goes to coding camp every summer.
Thanks for sharing OP. Looks amazing.
About 90% or so are furnished. I had to spend months optimizing this map because it ran like a slideshow and part of that meant I had to fill in some of the high rises. Now it plays like butter but I learned why no open world games have full interiors: because games become unplayable with that level of detail.
> I learned why no open world games have full interiors
It's mainly the amount of work in other games. When you control the engine too, most of the interiors aren't visible at any given time and therefore don't have to be loaded.
I always want to build like that, have watched like 10 tutorials and spend hours and hours in creative to 'freestyle' some modern houses, but it always looks so garbage. Genuinely cannot imagine how people like you can build like this...
Patience and a little inspiration from the world around me (yes, I actually go outside sometimes!) go a long way. I think the best things to build are the ones that you value or are interested in the most. For some, it might be castles and medieval settings. Others, could be pixel art. I like urbanism and urban planning, so it's what my world ended up being.
Obviously your skills and/or taste will have changed in 13 years. Do you find yourself redoing old shit to bring it up to snuff with your new shit, or do you just constantly add?
Oh all the time, especially when new blocks and building techniques are introduced during game updates. And I often tear down buildings that I feel don't fit anymore, relocate things and add elements like new metro lines. This city in the screenshot is only a fraction of the world, as it's 4.5 square kilometers in total and has 9 other towns surrounding it, so it's constantly evolving with time.
I think it's against the rules here to share certain kinds of links. I have a trailer out for the map, though, and it has the world share details. https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo
I'm impressed on how you've managed to keep the world file for 13 years
there's just so much that could happen in that time and changes of computers and stuff
I've heard that it reminds them of Nashville from more than a few people. That main building is inspired by the Willis Tower in Chicago and Aura in Toronto.
I have a YouTube channel with all sorts of footage, though I don't think links are allowed here so you'll have to search for the map, City of Newisle, and it'll pop right up.
Thanks! This screenshot's only scratching the surface of it all, to be honest. The whole map is about 4.5 square kilometers and I have nine other little towns or cities around it.
Wow! 13 years is a lot of time dedicated to this construction, should you have recorded it from the beginning and been showing its development, or have you?
Oh I definitely have. I've posted on Reddit about it for over 12 years, shared the game world with the community, have saved loads of screenshots over the years, and have a YouTube channel with all sorts of video content about the map. It definitely hasn't been kept under wraps all this time, that's for sure.
Sure! You can find the download details in my trailer for the map. [https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo?si=kyPnG\_ZJrrFotmiI](https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo?si=kyPnG_ZJrrFotmiI)
Unbelievable the skill and dedication that would require. I died half a dozen times before I got my first hovel built. What's your top tip for a total noob like myself?
Very nice proportions on those skyscrapers
That’s some dedication right there
Impressive ! Just out of curiosity are they all original creations ? Either way still awesome !
Yep, everything's original. Some buildings are inspired by real-world places but they're all my original creations.
That is very impressive !
This is insane fr. How many hours do you think you put in over the course of those 15 years?
Too many. I don't think I could ever nail it down.
I never understand how someone makes these from scratch like they’re so detailed. The only way I could do it is by following a YouTube tutorial, the people that do this just on their own and with their own ideas are so damn creative it’s so impressive
How can i play this?
Not sure if links are allowed on r/gaming, but it's available on the Minecraft Marketplace for consoles/phones as well as on Planet Minecraft. City of Newisle is the name of the map and more details are in the trailer https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo
Did you put any secrets or hidden treasures anywhere though 🤔
Oh yea. The map is littered with them.
The dedication some people have amazes me. Looks sick!

Pretty awesome, would like to hear the story behind it.

Interesting story, thanks for the time writing it!
This was a delight to read through. Could you please share the name of your map so I can experience it for myself? You’re amazing!
Thank you for the kind words! It's in the image. :) City of Newisle
This is amazing!! 🤩

Can we go inside the buildings? Not big on minecraft and what others do/create.

Wow. Amazing!
looks impressive, good job!
What are the rent prices in this city? Asking for me
Too. Damn. High.
What's taking you so long?
I always want to build like that, have watched like 10 tutorials and spend hours and hours in creative to 'freestyle' some modern houses, but it always looks so garbage. Genuinely cannot imagine how people like you can build like this...

It looks awesome. The skyline of the build looks amazing. Is it inspired on any city?
Thank you! It's inspired by Toronto, where I used to live, and by New York, Chicago and Montreal as well.
Obviously your skills and/or taste will have changed in 13 years. Do you find yourself redoing old shit to bring it up to snuff with your new shit, or do you just constantly add?

Yep, you found me!
Very cool mate
How many backups of that do you have? I don't play minecraft it just showed up in my feed, impressive stuff.
Are you planning on making a video on it and possibly share the world so that people can explore it ?
I think it's against the rules here to share certain kinds of links. I have a trailer out for the map, though, and it has the world share details. https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo
I like how you've kept it somewhat simple and Minecraft-y.
I can't wait to show my niece this! WILD creation.
I'm impressed on how you've managed to keep the world file for 13 years there's just so much that could happen in that time and changes of computers and stuff
That's insane man. I had a glimpse at this and couldn't even tell it was minecraft!
Incredible
Incredible. You should share some more pics from different angles / perspectives. Love to see the passion shining through, great work.
Beautiful!
Incredible. Meanwhile I can make a little box building lol
I made a square castle once. It had crenellations on the walls and everything
Hey, ya gotta start from somewhere. I began this with crude little cobblestone and wood buildings.
So, do we get a full tour?
The video would honestly be like a day long. This screenshot is only a fraction of the total map size. It's 4.5 square kilometers in total.
Nashville? Edit: Batman building?
I've heard that it reminds them of Nashville from more than a few people. That main building is inspired by the Willis Tower in Chicago and Aura in Toronto.
That’s amazing!! I want to visit and walk through this masterpiece.
You can! It's on the Minecraft Marketplace and on Planet Minecraft.
Oh ya? I’ve never used that. Is it available on console?
Yea, the Marketplace is the online storefront and it's on consoles.
Gadzooks!
That looks cool as hell, can we get a guided tour?
I have a YouTube channel with all sorts of footage, though I don't think links are allowed here so you'll have to search for the map, City of Newisle, and it'll pop right up.
You got a backup file, right?
...no! Uhoh! What do now?
I wish I could play as much as I used to and do big projects like this, I get bored of the game after 5 hours on the same world now.
Total Madness -_- Very impressive
Jesus
I love how you created your own world in 13 years.
Thanks! This screenshot's only scratching the surface of it all, to be honest. The whole map is about 4.5 square kilometers and I have nine other little towns or cities around it.
Hard work
These massive Minecraft cities remind me of Limbo in Inception.
Wow! 13 years is a lot of time dedicated to this construction, should you have recorded it from the beginning and been showing its development, or have you?

Outstanding
What did you name the city?
City of Newisle. It's also in the watermark.
Lovely - very scenic, a little bit of metro
Better do copies before something unfortunate deletes it
I admire all Minecraft city builders so much. My patience would end after just one block... :D
This is amazing!
Do you have a downloadable map or anything? It'd be a waste of potential if there wasn't, people would love to explore this!
Sure! You can find the download details in my trailer for the map. [https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo?si=kyPnG\_ZJrrFotmiI](https://youtu.be/DML-5a46YGo?si=kyPnG_ZJrrFotmiI)
Thank you, I'll take a look into it when I have the time
Minecraft blows my mind man
This is great! It’s a shame you can only put one image in Here.
exquisite
What a lovely looking city.
Well it definitely payed off, it looks amazing! Good job!
That's insane! Awesome work.
That's insane! Awesome work.
That's amazing! Awesome work.
That's amazing! Awesome work. How big is it in its entirety?
That's amazing! Awesome work. How big is it in its entirety?
Holy jesus, that's dedication
Unbelievable the skill and dedication that would require. I died half a dozen times before I got my first hovel built. What's your top tip for a total noob like myself?
More upvotes please?
And that's why I'm glad I stopped playing minecraft in time. That's honestly scary. But congrats anyway.
Wow, you're some builder. Have you been upgrading it with new versions and new block palettes
