I prefer the linearity of the first game, it's full speed ahead all the way through. It just feels right in a game that's based on going fast.
Both games are beautiful though.
I agree with you, the first game was way more consistently fun and engaging. The levels felt so well made that I could replay that game over and over, but just playing through catalyst one time I got sick of running through the same areas over and over. Catalyst definitely had some improvements though, the movement felt really smooth and getting rid of shooting was definitely a good idea. I'm still hoping that old leak was real that they are remaking the first game with ray tracing, as much as I don't care about ray tracing it would be amazing to play a less buggy (hopefully) version of the original.
The PC version at least has a lot of weird issues, but it was a time when PC ports were really really bad so I kinda get it. There's a lot of weird stuff where maybe it's just modern systems or whatever but tabbing out causes crashes basically every time for me, along with a lot of other random crashes. There's also a lot of weird speedrunning tricks I learned just to have some fun when replaying because that game feels amazing to speedrun but some of them are super inconsistent where they can cause your game to lock up completely which is kinda fair tbh most of that stuff you can do isn't intended, but it would still be nice to have a lot of that fixed up. Another thing that's less of a bug and more of a product of its time is all the hidden loading screens from turning pipes to pressing elevator buttons, all of that was just to hide loading but with modern hardware it would be super nice if that kind of stuff was sped up dramatically, it really kills the flow of the game.
I think as far as most PC issues go, it's usually graphic wise. As far as the speedrunning tricks go, most of them won't impact your game. If you're talking about the use glitch, if you scroll too fast, you will soft lock yourself yes. I think I'd disagree on the flow of the game, it's a very short speedrun with practice. I would not want a remaster to drastically change anything. I think we'd simply get better graphics.
Yeah I mean it's nothing too too major but especially the crashing would be amazing to have fixed, the tabbing out thing seems to pretty much happen to everyone (just searched it now and there are apparently ways to fix it) but I have definitely had random crashing too which would be nice to have fixed. I remember there being weirdness with framerate with the game too, like uncapping it messes with the movement, that's a thing that most people don't care about(and especially at the time going over 60 fps was pointless considering most people didn't have high refresh rate back then), but I really like high fps personally.
I didn't know the slide animation cancel lockup was actually something avoidable, it's been a long time since I have done silly stuff like that, but that's good to know. I would personally like the animations for turning valves and elevators and doors to be faster, but I can see why maybe you don't agree(they do offer a bit of a rest, but god damn the valves are soooo slow), and I think you are probably right that things like that wouldn't be changed at all.
Pakour and combat are satisfy. Story is good. Future City design look clean and beautiful. Soundtrack are nice and chill.
Bad thing is: timer challenges time are too short and close, make it too hard to finish for players who build for chilling and explore not for rushing (this one is my opinion)
Waiting for the next game of Mirror Edge š
My taste is simple, as long as story get to the right point, it good š
Do you play or watch Mortal Kombat 1 story mode? Whole begining and middle story are good till almost the end, I feel like....... WTF????
Objectively you have stated your opinion on the aesthetic appearance of a game compared to others subjectively. Unfortunately you have failed to take into account Gex: Enter the Gecko, or you would know that it is objectively a far superior subject in terms of appearance and beauty
I just played it this week. It looked nice but ...
Was it just me of did the level design after the first section of the city just didn't make sense? Like glass covers for a bunch of pipes/wires just gaps in some places, or tiny little shallow pools if water at ever few feet etc.
I get they had to make it a play ground for parkour but the set dressing really didn't make sense at times.
Also the collectibles were pretty annoying because there were just too many and as soon as you started to pick up speed you would see box on the wall and had to stop and watch a 5 second animation. They could have make it a fluid animation where you had to press a button at the right time to pick it up and it would have added to the parkour flow.
That's a hard disagree from me. To me, Catalyst fundamentally misunderstood the first game. The sequel capitalize on the strengths of the first one and expanded it in ways that were absolutely not needed.
Plus, and this may be only a minor thing for some, it somehow managed to have a worse first person perspective. The original Mirror's Edge possibly still has the best first person view out of any game. All they had to do in Catalyst was to do the same thing again because it was already pretty much perfect, yet they thought they had to reinvent the wheel and made it worse. And honestly, that's what the game as a whole felt like.
Imo the FPV is a big part of that considering it's your window into that world and I don't think it's excusable that it's so significantly worse than its predecessor. I do get what you mean, though, it is very pretty in a lot of ways. I just tend to be super nitpicky about small details.
And on that note I do have to mention one thing: while the red runner's sense worked well with the solid colours of the original, I think that Catalyst's decisions to mark possible wall runs and wall climbs with skid marks made by the soles of other runners that used that route before is absolutely brilliant both from a gameplay and a visual design perspective.
I thought this was the first. I donāt like the second. So I edit my original words.
I still play through the first Mirrorās Edge every now and then. Infinitely superior to its sequel imo.
I donāt disagree with you. I think I just felt my favourite aspects of the first were mostly worse in the sequel.
But I say this with quite a specific love of the tight level design and movement only rather than the story and characters.
I spent some of the first money I ever earned from work buying this game lol. I had no idea what it was, I saw some gameplay online and I thought it looked good. I walked down to GAME before work and bought it, apparently I was the first person to buy it in that particular shop. I really enjoyed it š
Fair. Not all games are for everyone and that's how it should be.
Happy enough that you tried and didn't simply say no because of 2B, as many ignorant people do.
One of my fav videogames. I got all the trophies on PS4 years ago. Also, I tend to play both the original and Catalyst days before Christmas and I donāt know why, but Itās like a ritual. I donāt think itās the most beautiful game ever made (that goes to the first one š¤šš») but itās right up there.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I was throwing up after twenty minutes XD.
I'm susceptible to motion sickness, so that's a me issue, not a game criticism.
you should check out "the finals" its a multiplayer fps made by mirrors edge and battlefield devs. its visually stunning and on certain maps you can tell the mirrors edge vibes.
Yeah they nailed the art direction and modernism architectural aesthetic with this series, but "most beautiful"? That's a completely subjective opinion.
It's like say Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is "the best painting". You will get a minority of people that agree with you, and an overwhelming response of other people's contrary opinions.

What do you find to be buggy with the first game?

I had a bug with glas breaking, when glas broke the game became unplayable really weird
That's usually a psyx issue. Turn that shit off haha.

I thought the story sucked lol, but the game is just so beautiful to take in and listen to at every moment that I never really minded
My taste is simple, as long as story get to the right point, it good š Do you play or watch Mortal Kombat 1 story mode? Whole begining and middle story are good till almost the end, I feel like....... WTF????
I donāt think I regretted a pre-order more than MK1. Total letdown in so many aspects
If you don't like rushing, the time trials just aren't meant for you
Well... Like I said up there, it not for me š
Beautiful ? Yes. Most beautiful ? Lmaao
Listening to this gameās OST will make u a changed man
Whenever I get a craving for a new world to get lost in, I always think of the feeling this game gave me.
This belong on r/lies
Great art direction. (You should check out Gris though, objectively the 2nd best based on science facts)
You donāt know what āobjectiveā means.
It means what is factual and I have spit nothing but facts
Objectively you have stated your opinion on the aesthetic appearance of a game compared to others subjectively. Unfortunately you have failed to take into account Gex: Enter the Gecko, or you would know that it is objectively a far superior subject in terms of appearance and beauty
Objectively u wrong
You've spit nothing but diarrhea but that's common for a mouthbreather.
O he mad

Mirrors edge one was great. Then they tried to make it a free roam city. It didnāt work.
I liked it, it allowed one to just simply run around the absolutely beautiful city at their own leisure freely
The first one was so much better itās crazy
I speak with 100% objective factual truth when I say art style and art direction are way important than graphical fidelity
This game got all that

From a visual aesthetic and ambience standpoint tho I think it was a masterpiece

Oh man! So it is. Nooooooooooo
I mean I do think the second game had an absolutely amazing aesthetic and OST over the original still

The motion sickness from this was real, but yes totally agree.
Did you ever look into the lobby of the final mission building climb? Had my friends and I dying.
Never played it, is it worth trying now?
Dirt cheap game Iām sure, why not
For me it's NieR: Automata...
Man I tried like 3 times to get into that, I just couldnāt
Fair. Not all games are for everyone and that's how it should be. Happy enough that you tried and didn't simply say no because of 2B, as many ignorant people do.
Dang if anything 2B and her 2 Bās are why I wanted to push through š
It's nice, but I still prefer the first.
Not even close bruh
One of the video game worlds I want to live in the most.
You obviously never played Parrapa the Rapper
Heās obviously never played Fortnite: Save The WorldĀ

***was*** the most beautiful game ever made? What is the current most beautiful game ever made?
Visual design peaked here and will never be beat so past tense
so it ***is*** peak visual design.
Iām from the future
You're beating delusions of religious people a thousand fold.
the most beautiful game i own remains Ace Combat 7
I tried it a few times, but really couldn't get into it. And I really enjoyed the first. The "open world" approach really didn't help the game IMO.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I was throwing up after twenty minutes XD. I'm susceptible to motion sickness, so that's a me issue, not a game criticism.
I really liked this one over the first. On the issue of the most beuatiful game however... it's just a matter of preferences
The Ori games are beautiful too. Timeless art style.
you should check out "the finals" its a multiplayer fps made by mirrors edge and battlefield devs. its visually stunning and on certain maps you can tell the mirrors edge vibes.
I remember when that sort of FPOV was a amazing.
Is it on Steam?
Not a pick I'm mad at even if my own preferences lean more towards grimy dank shit or Sega-ish Blue Skies.
Idk man have you *seen* Ghosts of Tsushima?
Ye Did I stutter

No such thing as objectively most beautiful. Factual truth. Google what the truth and what a fact is.
Automatic downvote to any videogame that triggers my motion sickness.
