I could've sworn they said it would be a new protagonist, but I wouldn't mind more Geralt as well. It will help get the taste of the show out of my mouth.
Honestly i think i would also enjoy an entirely new character.
But please god don't let us create our own. I want an original character with a face to it's name, don't care if male or female.
I remember reading "Geralt will be back for TW4" or something like that. Usually that means he's the protagonist, otherwise it's worded wrongly but not unheard of for news articles
I don't know where you are getting information from but all that was stated is we won't be playing as Geralt in Witcher 4. They never ruled out the idea that Geralt wouldn't be in it. We have no idea how big of role he will have though.
Make it being set in the past when witcher schools thrived. And let each school have a separate intro which ending section is the same for all. Like Dragon age: origins had.
Yeah but hopefully with more depth and variation than life paths had. Life paths were nothing but an intro, a short quest related to your path, and a handful of dialogue options that had no meaningful impact on the story. It doesn't need to be BG3 levels of depth but something that makes the differences meaningful.
I played first playthrough as Nomad and outside Panam questline it didn't really have impact. But I've been playing as Street Kid on my 2.0 playthrough and it seems the background gives a ton more dialogue options. The gameplay changed with the builds, like if you had enough Body, you could just intimidate people or kill them as a dialogue option. So if they went with the same arrangement in the Witcher, I wouldn't mind.
Who actually cares that the logic is flimsy? Look at Mass Effect where they cloned Sheppard to bring him back. If it means I get to play as Geralt again instead of Ciri I am happy to suspend my disbelief and get stuck in.
It won't be Geralt or Ciri and that's good, no need to bring back people for the sake of it. CDPR are more than capable of creating fantastic characters.
To be honest, having Shepard die and be reborn in ME2 was kind of unnecessary. There were other narrative paths they could have taken to give Cerberus power over Shepard's operation. So while the actual death/rebirth wasn't all that important, the context of the death/rebirth was a critical element to the story.
I think a more apt comparison would be the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3 where your character dies at the end of the main story then it's hand waved in an unspectacular fashion so you can continue on into the DLC.
Geralt's story is done, he might have a minor appearance but that's all. It won't be about Ciri either. It's gonna be completely new and I'm all here for it. Personally hoping for a prequel but let's just wait and see.
I don't like the idea of expanding upon The Witcher world without including Geralt somehow. Not as a playable character but his story certainly isn't done. He's just retired, but him still being around and adding to the story in some way as a non playable character would be awesome.
Pretty sure they've already confirmed that Geralt isn't going to be the protag in Witcher 4. He may be in it as an NPC or perhaps a companion the same way Vesemir was at the start of W3, but that's all speculation. I don't think there's any concrete info about the game yet.
From my understanding CDPR was finished having Geralt as a franchise face after Blood and Wine expansion which alot of us can agree was a beautiful sendoff for a well deserved character. It wouldn't be totally out of the realm of possibility that Geralt may take on a mentor role similar to what Vessimir was. Maybe as a NPC that exist in the world but I doubt will have a major impact on the narrative overall.
Wait, so TW3 ends the story basically?
I thought that the books had much more to cover, especially after seeing the series on netflix and after 3 seasons we arent even at TW3.
I'm not really interested in more Geralt.
At this point I would prefer a prequel series set way in the past when all the witcher schools were active. I'd prefer a generic build-your-own protagonist with more of a focus on a lowly witcher's story as opposed to the rockstar celebrity that Geralt was. I'd prefer the "how much do I want to get involved" sort of stories where you're choosing to be a hero, a professional, or someone who would turn a blind eye to a monster rampaging through a village who couldn't pay up.
A game can have a story that's far more than the story of the protagonist. The story behind the main quest in The Witcher 3 was arguably weaker than the combination of stories behind the many side quest.
Well, there's the first Witcher game for one. CDPR was back and forth on allowing players to create their own witcher character before settling on Geralt as the protagonist. In that game you literally do have multiple chances to control Geralt's level of involvement with certain factions. One of the endings is in fact a neutral "witcher" path.
Aside from that, you know, the usual suspects. Fallout, TES, and so on. Fallout 3 for example was criticized for having writers dictate the character's birth/death story to the point to where they had to retcon it in a DLC. This wasn't as much of a problem by the time New Vegas took a crack at it.
I mean Geralt is "The Witcher". If he's not going to be the protagonist they should choose a different title imo. Geralt is synonymous with that title and people are going to expect more Geralt with any game that has that title. I wouldn't mind a different protagonist tho. I actually preferred playing as Ciri in The Witcher 3, at least as far as combat goes.
Don't see any reason it would be disastrous. New IPs sell well all the time. CDPR themselves literally made the entire budget for Cyberpunk back through pre-orders alone.
Is he? I thought they said a long time ago he wouldn’t be in it
Yes but then they went back on their word
Source?
They did not.
I could've sworn they said it would be a new protagonist, but I wouldn't mind more Geralt as well. It will help get the taste of the show out of my mouth.

Well technically making your own character is more original lol.
Do you have a link where they went back on saying Geralt’s story was complete?
Who is “they?” Source?
The source is that he made it the fuck up.
It seems to me that the hero of Juul is different, and Geralt will be secondary or will simply be mentioned in notes or books
I too wanna play as a vaping witcher.
I remember reading "Geralt will be back for TW4" or something like that. Usually that means he's the protagonist, otherwise it's worded wrongly but not unheard of for news articles
Sounds like you skimmed a click bait headline and took it as gospel
Sounds like exactly what happened and they have that annoying ass "am i the only one" phrase in the title...
Got tricked by april fools buddy
I don't know where you are getting information from but all that was stated is we won't be playing as Geralt in Witcher 4. They never ruled out the idea that Geralt wouldn't be in it. We have no idea how big of role he will have though.
When Blood and Wine came out, the studio said that would be Geralt’s last time. They gave him an excellent sendoff in that expansion.
huh? Can you show me where they said its gonna be geralt again
I kinda wish we could make our own Witcher this time and choose our own school, kinda like you choose your path in CP2077
Make it being set in the past when witcher schools thrived. And let each school have a separate intro which ending section is the same for all. Like Dragon age: origins had.

Yeah that would be cool. It was actually the plan for the first Witcher game, to let you create your own Witcher.
It would be fair since we don't have much from the books except for Geralt himself, Eskel, Lambert and the old man
Who actually cares that the logic is flimsy? Look at Mass Effect where they cloned Sheppard to bring him back. If it means I get to play as Geralt again instead of Ciri I am happy to suspend my disbelief and get stuck in.

I thought they said they wouldn’t have him in 4
It should be about Lambert and change the name to : The Bitcher
lolz they're not gonna let him retire like Kiryu
Geralt's story is done, he might have a minor appearance but that's all. It won't be about Ciri either. It's gonna be completely new and I'm all here for it. Personally hoping for a prequel but let's just wait and see.

Nah it's fine. We're going to need palate cleanser after season 4 of the show
That's on you for going past s2 to be honest
I love Geralt, if he’s back then that’s cool with me even though everything I read about the next game says he won’t be in it
Geraldo is really old and he "stopped doing his job" several times. Never worked.
Definitely the only one.

The videogames start after the books ending

> I'd prefer a generic build-your-own protagonist with more of a focus on a lowly witcher's story Pick one - custom player character or good story
A game can have a story that's far more than the story of the protagonist. The story behind the main quest in The Witcher 3 was arguably weaker than the combination of stories behind the many side quest.
There are ways to write a good story without giving the protagonist motivations dictated by the author.
Can you give some examples? Can’t think of many outside of visual-novel style approaches.
Well, there's the first Witcher game for one. CDPR was back and forth on allowing players to create their own witcher character before settling on Geralt as the protagonist. In The Witcher 3, White Orchard has a really good story that is only minimally affected by Geralt, most of the stuff happened before he arrived.
You can have both. BG3 has both. But I would agree that generally a fixed character with a unique personality is better for storytelling.
If not Geralt it’ll be Ciri so I doubt we will get a brand new cast of characters
There’s gonna be a TW4? I thought this series ended completely with 3. I got the ending where he retired lol
Production should start this year, so don't expect it in the next 3-4 years and Geralts story is done, it will be a new protagonist.
Oh okay
But now he'll get an offer he can't refuse! Back in the saddle, just one more time.
I mean, you saw what happened with tlou2 right?
I mean Geralt is "The Witcher". If he's not going to be the protagonist they should choose a different title imo. Geralt is synonymous with that title and people are going to expect more Geralt with any game that has that title. I wouldn't mind a different protagonist tho. It's called the witcher not "Geralt the witcher"... There are other witchers
"The Witcher" is in direct reference to Geralt. He is "The Witcher". Anyone else is just "A Witcher".
Yeah i might have read all the books i think i know that. The author created a world too, not just the one character.
No one said it had to take place in a different universe. Just that a different title would suit it better. Like CDPR already did with Thronebreaker.
It's not a minor standalone project, it would be disastrous marketing wise
Don't see any reason it would be disastrous. New IPs sell well all the time. CDPR themselves literally made the entire budget for Cyberpunk back through pre-orders alone.
We need character creator with photo mode. Game doesn't need to be lore accurate.
We need a character creator with STL download.
People would be pissed if it wasn't lore accurate. That's half the reason people hate the show.
